Engineering craft, same icon as "Pierre". It seems he is finally coming out.
Although the spell description as of build 17056 makes it seem like you're summoning Pierre, there is a Rascal-Bot pet on the 5.4 PTR. Engineers learn this recipe when looting
, which can drop from any mob in Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
Flavor text from the PTR Pet Journal: "This little guy seems to like to hang out at the fringes of cataclysmic events. There is no evidence to suggest he has anything to do with the cause of these events, though - he's probably just an observer. Or maybe he just gets lost on his trek to other places."
For more details on the Bad Robot pet, as well as his red 3D robot model,
Available through engineer crafting in 5.4, at least on PTR.
Like Pierre, this pet is BoP and cannot be traded as a combat pet.
I had a feeling this was really the 'Bad Robot' pet, because there was already a page for Pierre and Rascal-Bot did have a similar ring to 'Bad Robot'.
But anyway, to provide context, this robotic companion pet is modeled after the mascot of
Bad Robot Productions
, a company created by J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk. The company is well known for producing such films and television shows like the new Star Trek reboot series, Lost, Cloverfield, Alias and Morning Glory. Some of the productions are referenced in its description in the Pet Journal and its pet abilities.
of the pet from the PTR, including it's abilities!
The schematic to learn how to build it (along with the Sky Golem, Pierre, Cooking Bag and Energy Source) is taught by
, which is a fairly common drop from any mob above lv88.
This pet seems to be exclusive to Engineers. It
be caged and the crafted item (
) is BoP.
It can now be caged and traded (changed via hotfix).
Bad Robot !
Called it, he IS a tribute to the Bad Robot movie company. Like I said, perhaps they're going to do work on the WoW film? Would make sense.
I love that pet and its reference!
I can't wait to make one!
And very interestingly, as you can see in the View in 3D window, its animations is the same of a fully controllable character!
Will it be a way to control it or a spell that will make us wear it like a disguise? Or will it randomly mimic or moves like us, trying to mock us maybe, acting like a Bad Robot? Or as a robot with a self-consciousness :P
Or will it just be used for a Machinima like mutual ad. with
Bad Robot Productions
Time will show us :)
Even if I won't be able to see all that perfectly done animations when playing, I'm still so excited ^^
And it will be my new preferred companion (and battle pet) ^^
Well done Blizzard, well done!
Not sure when this was changed, but both
Are no longer BoP and can now be caged for trading or selling.
omg its.... its so CUTE. Can i keep it momma?can i keep it?
Take a note: It's armed. Left-handed. And, probably, very dangerous.
Quick math for the materials (assuming no procs on transmutes):
15 Jard's Peculiar Energy Source = 150 ghost iron bars = 300 ghost iron
15 Living Steel = 90 trillium (assuming no Riddle of Steel CD's) = 180 black trillium and 180 white trillium or 900 ghost iron bars = 1800 ghost iron ore
Total in ghost iron ore: 2100 ghost iron ore
15 days of CD's/transmutes
Just made mine today and named him Abrams, massive grin on my face when reading the flavor text and seeing his ability names, especially Lens Flare and Plot Twist, best pet ever.
I think that the really rare pets or the pets that can be made such as this that take a lot of time/money/mats should have a definite advantage over easier to obtain pets. Sure it would give some people more of an advantage but that's what you get for putting in the extra work.
I also think that things that can be crafted armor/pets/mounts should have a slight boost to be better than items that can be vendor/AH purchased. Basically it would be a BoP item or maybe a BoA item. There should be an advantage to making the items yourself other then cheaper mats. Think of it as a mastercrafted version just for you
This seems to be modeled after a goblin. Check them out side by side!
I dunno if JJ would approve this robot!
I've been very lazy about getting this pet, which is a shame because I have seen it and it is very cute. But I'm still not sure if it will fight better than my best mechanical pet; Blue Clockwork Rocket Bot. Sure there are better things out there, like the witchy-doo cat, but for a mech.... yeah I'm wishing for it.
Such a cutey!
The pet has awesome references to Bad Robot Productions and one of its founders JJ Abrams too!
Phaser and Reboot are obvious links to the Phaser weapons used in Star Trek and
of the Star Trek franchise respectively.
Lens Flare is a
widely used by JJ Abrams if you see most or any of JJ Abrams' films.
Plot Twist may very well refer to one of Bad Robot's TV series
, which is notorious for its countless plot twists.
Amber prison likely refers to the
substance in the TV series
Armageddon directly references JJ Abrams writing the screenplay for the movie
Pretty cool pet overall. Gotta say I was delighted to discover this pet
Can anyone decipher what it is he's "saying" when clicked (other than the laughing)?
As you can see in the
View in 3D
window, its animations are the
fully controllable character
Like your own playable character, and not limited to a few animations just like a battle pet or even a non-combatant pet.
It is very interesting that they have made all the animations (as it isn't such an easy work to do and it is time and money consuming).
Hmm, now I wish that it was a way to replace my
character's model with this (speaking technically, ready to use) model
(Even an item that will give me its 'disguise' for a short period of time would be perfect, like the
Looks like a Funko Pop. Yes, I know it's from Bad Robot Productions. Still looks like a Funko Pop to me.
