Trash mobs and trash packs in Temple of Ahn'Qiraj can be more dangerous than some bosses and the infamous "
Bug Tunnel
" is often referred to as the Suppression Room of AQ40. Many mobs can be extremely dangerous, especially the Anubisath mobs that have random sets of spells, similar to the

in Blackwing Lair.
This guide provides tips and strategies for defeating trash mobs in Temple of Ahn'Qiraj in Classic WoW.

Anubisath Sentinel

will be the first mobs a raid will encounter when zoning into Temple of Ahn'Qiraj. These dangerous sentinels come in packs of four and raids will need to defeat two packs before reaching the first boss,

Anubisath Sentinels are dangerous because they will each have one random ability and each time one Sentinel dies in the pack, all remaining Sentinels will gain the defeated mob's ability and heal up for 50% of their remaining health, that means it is important for raids to focus fire one Sentinel at a time and not try to AOE them down. By the time the raid is fighting the last remaining Sentinel, it will have four abilities and likely be at full health.
Anubisath Sentinel Random Abilities

give Anubisath Sentinel the ability to reflect any incoming Fire and Arcane damage. This ability requires

s to only cast Frost on the mob, to avoiding killing themselves by spamming Fire Damage. At the beginning of the fight, Mages need to attack slowly, to avoid dying. This ability also gives the Anubisath Sentinel a buff, which can be visible to the entire raid by casting

, the amount heal can be reduced, but most high-end raiding guilds don't typically bring an Arms Warrior to their Ahn'Qiraj.

is a basic attack that will target a player and knock them away from the Sentinel, and reduce threat on the player knocked away.
荆棘术
is a buff on the Sentinel that will deal damage to any player that auto-attacks the Sentinel, dealing Nature Damage. If the raid's melee has Nature Resist gear on, the damage from Thorns can be mitigated significantly.
雷霆一击
deals area-of-effect Nature damage and can be resisted by Nature Resist gear, similar to Thorns. In the event a Sentinel has Thunderclap, it should be dragged away from the raid and tanked separately, until it becomes the kill target, typically second to last or last.
致死打击
will deal significant damage on application and apply a debuff that reduces healing by 50% for some time, similar to

boss in Blackwing Lair. This can be extremely dangerous for tanks and healers will need to pay special attention to any tank dealing with a Mortal Strike Sentinel.

will drain mana in an area near the Sentinel, which means the tank should drag the Sentinel away from the raid and tank it far from any mana users, exactly like how Thunderclap will be handled.

can be the most dangerous ability from Anubisath Sentinels if it isn't handled properly. This is basically an area-of-effect Shadowbolt volley, that deals significant damage to any player outside of melee range from the Sentinel. In the event a Sentinel has this ability, it should be tanked in the middle of the raid and the raid should pack in closely near the Sentinel, avoiding the volley entirely.
Anubisath Sentinel Strategy
Typically a raid will want to pull the four Anubisath Sentinels and try to quickly determine each of the Sentinel's abilities. Once that is uncovered, the raid should look to kill them in order of easiest ability to deal with, to most dangerous. In the above listing of abilities, they are already sorted by easiest to deal with to most difficult. Meaning the raid should target and kill Sentinels with Reflect Damage abilities, Mending, Knock Away, and Thorns first, saving any Sentinel with Thunderclap, Mortal Strike, Mana Burn, and Shadow Storm for last.
Obsidian Eradicator

come in packs of three, patrolling near the entrace of Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, leading up to Prophet Skeram. Raids will want to be careful when pulling these, ensuring the Obsidian Eradicator packs are pulled away from Anubisath Sentinels, because pulling both packs at the same time could lead to a wipe. Obsidian Eradicators will Drain Mana of all mana users in range, up to 16 total targets nearby, absorbing any mana drained. If the Obsidian Eradicators reach 100% Mana, they will use Shock Blast, doing a ton of Nature Damage and potentially wiping the raid.
Obsidian Eradicator Abilities
吸取法力
will steal mana from any mana users within line-of-sight of the Obsidian Eradicator, targeting the nearest 16 players. All mana drained will begin to fill up the Obsidian Eradicator's mana bar, which starts out completely empty.
震爆
will go out when the Obsidian Eradicator's mana bar is completely full, dealing a catastrophic amount of Nature Damage to all players within 30 yards of the Obsidian Eradicator. To prevent this spell from going out, all Priests and Warlocks should spam

Obsidian Eradicator Strategy
These packs are relatively straight forward, tank-and-spank trash pulls, as long as the Priests and Warlock continue spamming Mana Burning abilities, preventing the Obsidian Eradicators from reaching a full mana bar. In the event the mana bar reaches 100%, it could spell disaster for the raid.
Qiraji Brainwasher & Vekniss Guardian

are the trash packs immediately following the Prophet Skeram boss encounter. With proper tank positioning and kill order, these trash packs aren't that dangerous. The Qiraji Brainwasher needs to be prioritized for first kill, because of the Mana Burn and Mind Control abilities. Vekniss Guardians should be tanked against a wall, ensuring Impale doesn't launch the tanks too high in the air, forcing them to take fall damage.
Qiraji Brainwasher Abilities

causes a random player in the raid to get mind controlled, increasing attack speed and movement speed, attacking other raid members for 10 seconds. The player that is mind controlled should be crowd controlled with spells like

, and so on.

will randomly go out, targeting a nearby mana user, draining their mana and dealing damage to the player per mana burnt. There isn't any way to deal with this other than killing the Qiraji Brainwasher quickly, to avoid a ton of mana getting burned from the raid.

will do Shadow damage-over-time as a channeled ability, which can be interrupted by the raid. This isn't a ton of damage, but if it targets a healer or a caster, it can become an issue and should be interrupted immediately. Brainwashers die fairly quickly as long as the raid focus targets them first, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Vekniss Guardian Abilities
穿刺
will do a significant bleed, which deals damage-over-time and send the player struck with it flying high into the air, where they will inevitably take fall damage and likely die. For this reason, tanks need to tank the Vekniss Guardians with their backs directly against the wall behind them.
狂怒
is a typical Enrage effect, increasing attack speed and damage dealt. Healers should focus heals on the tank in the event of an Enrage and there won't be much of an issue.
Qiraji Brainwasher & Vekniss Guardian Strategy
Again, the raid should focus fire the Qiraji Brainwasher, before swapping over to the Vekniss Guardians. Tanks need to have their backs against the wall while tanking the Vekniss Guardians, to prevent Impale sending them flying into the air and taking fall damage.
The Bug Tunnel
The Bug Tunnel between Battleguard Sartura and Fankriss the Unyielding is packed full of

. This area of Temple of Ahn'Qiraj is known as the "Suppression Room" of AQ40, because of how difficult this area is, as well as how mobs will respawn, like the Whelps in Suppression Room. Comparing the two areas, Vekniss Soldiers are equivalent to Death Talon Hatchers and Vekniss Drones are equivalent to the Whelps.
Vekniss Soldier Abilities
Agro Drones
will pull nearby Vekniss Drones to attack the raid when the Vekniss Soldier is pulled, meaning the raid will have to fight and control a Vekniss Soldiers with a large group of Vekniss Drones in the area, at the same time. If too many Drones are nearby, it can become extremely hectic, where Drones will switch over to a healer to deal damage, if the tank isn't keeping up AOE threat.

hits up to three targets in front of Vekniss Soldier, dealing damage in front of the Drone. For this reason, tanks need to be careful and tank the Vekniss Drone away from the raid, so the cleave doesn't hit multiple players, putting a strain on healers.
无力冲锋
will charge a player and reduce their movement speed for 8 seconds. This isn't too big of a deal, as the charge will always go out on the tank, reducing their movement speed. In the event someone pulls a Vekniss Soldier that wasn't supposed to, they would be slowed instead.
疯狂光环
increases the attack speed and damage of both the Vekniss Soldier and any nearby Drones, which can cause a huge problem if the Drones aren't being controlled with AOE threat management and are alive for too long. Because of Frenzy Aura, the entire raid should look to burn the Vekniss Soldiers down, while the tanks control the Drones and keep them rounded up.
The Bug Tunnel Strategy
When moving through the Bug Tunnel, the raid should be moving as one unit, quickly and efficiently. In general, there are two approaches to making it through the Bug Tunnel. The first strategy is just zerging the tunnel down, burning all mobs with AOE damage. This strategy will usually work for a raid with a lot of Mages, Priests to spam Power Word: Shield on them, and tanks that can hold threat on all the trash mobs during these bursts of damage. The reason this strategy can be dangerous is because if enough Mages die, it can slow the raid down significantly through the bug tunnel.
The other strategy is a bit slower, but more controlled. It requires tanks to use AOE threat mechanics such as

in the bag. Going for the slower strategy abuses a simple mechanic in the Bug Tunnel, the mobs can't respawn if they aren't dying! This strategy just requires the entire raid to only focus fire down the Vekniss Soldiers and ignore the Vekniss Drones completely, allowing the tanks to drag the Drones around as a giant clump. Once the raid reaches the half way mark, they can AOE down the Drones, heal up the tanks, and keep moving through the second half the same way.
Vekniss Warrior & Vekniss Hive Crawler

come in packs of three, have no abilities, and are basic tank-and-spank trash mobs. When they die, they will use

, which will spawn non-elite Vekniss Borers, which raids should look to AOE down with their Mages.
维克尼爬行者
come in packs of two after defeating Fankriss the Unyielding, posing very little threat to the raid. Basically, these are tank-and-spank trash mobs that put out poison debuffs, which the raid can easily remove with Poison cleansing abilities such as

.
Vekniss Hive Crawler Abilities
毒云之箭
is a nasty Nature damage-over-time ability that lasts for 10 seconds and will always be priority number one for being cleansed. In the event it targets melee players, hopefully they have enough Nature Resist gear on that it won't cause too much damage.

will slow casting speed on the target afflicted, and should be removed from healers first, before being cleansed from damage dealers.
致残毒药
will slow movement speed on the target and poses no threat to the raid really, other than potentially slowing down a speedrun.
破甲攻击
goes out on tanks, stacks up to five times, and reduces armor by a significant amount. Healers need to be cognizant when the Sunder Armor stacks are high, that the tank will take significant damage from auto-attacks. To avoid a scary situation, it is recommended a raid uses different tanks for each Vekniss Hive Crawler, instead of having one player tanking both.
Vekniss Wasp Pack
In Princess Huhuran's room, Vekniss Wasp Packs roam around consisting of various amounts of

mobs. Typically, a raid will wait in the hallway before Princess Huhuran's room, while a Hunter will step into the room and pull a pack over to the raid, to avoid accidentally pulling Princess Huhuran while still trying to clear trash.
Vekniss Wasp Abilities
痒
will apply a debuff to a random target that does absolutely nothing. Once 10 seconds have gone by with the Itch debuff, the player will then gain
维克尼斯催化
, which applies a Poison debuff, reducing movement speed, dealing damage over time, and making the player susceptible to fatal damage from a Vekniss Stinger.
Vekniss Stinger Abilities
冲锋
is Vekniss Stinger's only ability, randomly targeting a player and Charging them, dealing a small amount of damage. In the event the target charged has the Vekniss Catalyst debuff, this damage is multiplied by 10 and will almost certainly lead to an instant death.
Qiraji Lasher Abilities
Aggro Reset
, just like Battleguard Sartura, will take place randomly throughout the fight, where the Qiraji Lasher will drop all aggro and start charging toward a random raid member. Immediately, the Lasher should be stunned or taunted by another Warrior, to prevent them from moving and cleaving down the raid. After 5 seconds, the initial aggro will go back into effect, and the Qiraji Lasher will return to their original target.

will target a player within melee range and send them flying away.
旋风斩
will cause area-of-effect damage around the Qiraji Lasher, dealing damage to any nearby players. This can be quite a problem in the event the tank is the person knocked back over the raid, causing the Qiraji Lasher to move through the raid and whirlwinding everyone down!
Vekniss Wasp Pack Strategy
Because of the chaotic nature of the Qiraji Lashers, most raids will drag the Qiraji Lasher away with two tanks, taunting back and forth in the event the aggro reset takes place. The Qiraji Lasher will be kept in place away from the raid, while everyone focuses down the Vekniss Wasp and Vekniss Stinger, because of how dangerous their interaction is. In the event a player is afflicted with Itch, Poison cleansers need to pay close attention to remove Vekniss Catalyst the second that player receives the debuff, to avoid being charged by a Vekniss Stinger and likely one shot!
Anubisath Defender

is one of the most dangerous individual trash mobs in all of Ahn'Qiraj. Right after defeating Princess Huhuran, the raid will have to bring down 5 Anubisath Defenders, before moving on to the Twin Emperors boss encounter. While engaging the Anubisath Defender, they will also randomly spawn various extra mobs, either Anubisath Warriors or Anubisath Swarmguards, which can add a lot of chaos to the already hectic battle. Like previous Anubisath mobs, the Anubisath Defender will also have access to a set of random abilities, which will require the raid to react to what abilities are randomly acquired on the pull.
Anubisath Defender Abilities

will periodically spawn mobs near the Anubisath Defender.

are basic trash mobs, where the off-tank should have their back against the hallway while tanking them. Anubisath Warriors have a knock back, thanks to

Metor or Plague

will summon a Meteor on top of a random player, dealing a massive amount of damage, split up evenly amongst all players that are hit. To counter this, both the ranged groups and the melee groups need to be stacked tightly on top of one another, to spread out the meteor damage across enough targets, preventing players from dying.
瘟疫
targets a random player, putting a debuff on them which causes them to take significant Nature damage-over-time and spreading the debuff to any player within a 5 yard radius around them. In the event a player receives the Plague debuff, they need to run away from the rest of the raid and wait for the duration to end. Nature Resistance gear can reduce the amount of damage taken from Plague.
Shadow Storm or Thunderclap
暗影风暴
is basically an area-of-effect Shadowbolt volley, that deals significant damage to any player outside of melee range from the Anubisath Defender. In the event Anubisath Defender has this ability, the ranged group needs to be as close to the boss as possible, to avoid taking too much damage from the Shadowbolt Volleys.
雷霆一击
deals Nature damage in an area around Anubisath Defender, which can be resisted by Nature Resist gear. In the event the Anubisath Defender has this ability, melee will be taking significantly more damage throughout the fight and healers need to be aware.
Enrage or Explode
狂怒
at 10%, gaining increased attack speed and damage. Healers need to put out extra healing on the main tank, as they will see a significant ramp up in damage dealt.

at 10%, similar to the
觅血者前锋
in Zul'Gurub, the Anubisath Defender will begin casting an Explosion and once the timer runs out, the Anubisath Defender will die and deal a significant amount of Fire damage to any player nearby the mob, which can be easily avoided by just running away from the mob.
Anubisath Defender Strategy
The first step when pulling an Anubisath Defender should be to get up Detect Magic immediately, to see what Reflect damage types the mob has. Next, an off tank should be standing between Anubisath Defender and the raid's healers, as any spawned mobs will likely move to them immediately, because of the healing output on the main tank will draw aggro. There, the off tank will hold the spawned trash mob and melee can quickly turn around and kill it. Once that is under control, the rest of the fight is relatively simple, requiring the raid to re-position based on abilities or run away from the raid in the event of Plague.
Qiraji Champion Packs
While Anubisath Defenders might be some of the most difficult individual trash mobs, the Qiraji Champion packs are some of the most difficult groups of enemies. Each pack will always have 1

. The most dangerous of the three mobs in this pack will always be the Qiraji Mindslayer, which has a dangerous Mind Blast, Mind Controls players in the raid, and will Burn Mana and cause a brief fear on the raid upon death, so the Mindslayer is always priority number one for the kill order.
Qiraji Champion Abilities
顺劈斩
hits up to three targets in front of Qiraji Champion, dealing damage in a cone in front of the mob. For this reason, tanks need to be careful and tank the Qiraji Champion facing away from the raid, so the cleave doesn't hit multiple players, putting a strain on healers.
破胆怒吼
is an area-of-effect fear, that will hit any nearby enemies and cause them to run away. This can be counteracted with things like a Dwarf Priest's Fear Ward or a Shaman's Tremor Totem. Warriors shouldn't have much of a problem breaking out, as long as they save
狂暴之怒
for the fear break.
击退
is a basic attack that will target a player and knock them away from the Qiraji Champion.
复仇
is similar to a typical Frenzy effect, gaining an increased attack speed and damage dealt. This effect goes out when Qiraji Champion reaches low health. One interesting thing to note, Vengeance is a magic buff, which means a Priest can use
驱散魔法
to remove it from Qiraji Champion.
Qiraji Slayer Abilities
顺劈斩
hits up to three targets in front of Qiraji Slayer, dealing damage in a cone in front of the mob. For this reason, tanks need to be careful and tank the Qiraji Slayer facing away from the raid, so the cleave doesn't hit multiple players, putting a strain on healers.
旋风斩
will cause area-of-effect damage around the Qiraji Slayer, dealing damage to any nearby players. This can be quite a problem in the event the tank is the person knocked back over the raid, causing the Qiraji Slayer to move through the raid and whirlwinding everyone down!
疯狂
increases the Qiraji Slayer's attack speed and damage by a significant margin. It's important to note,

to remove Frenzy from the Qiraji Slayer.

will increase the Qiraji Slayer's attack power, as well as any nearby allies of hers, which can be a huge problem if the Battle Shout goes out before the Qiraji Slayer is separated from the other mobs in this trash pack.

is a basic attack that will target a player and knock them away from the Qiraji Slayer.
沉默
goes out in an area around the Qiraji Slayer every few moments, causing a long silence on any spellcasters in an area around her. This can be especially dangerous if the Qiraji Slayer gets too close to the healers in the raid, it can lead to a wipe!
Qiraji Mindslayer Abilities

causes a random player in the raid to get mind controlled, increasing attack speed and movement speed, attacking other raid members for 10 seconds. The player that is mind controlled should be crowd controlled with spells like

goes out when the Qiraji Mindslayer dies, burning mana from all players around the mob, dealing damage to them, and causing them to be feared for a short duration.

This isn't a ton of damage, but if it targets a healer or a caster, it can become an issue and should be interrupted immediately. Brainwashers die fairly quickly as long as the raid focus targets them first, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

deals significant shadow damage in a direct burst, targeting a random player in the raid.
Qiraji Champion Pack Strategy
The raid should always target down the Qiraji Mindslayer first, as they pose the biggest threat to the raid because of the Mind Control ability. Qiraji Mindslayers are also immune to taunt, so it is important the raid lets the main tank build enough threat before dumping out all their damage on the mob. When the Qiraji Mindslayer gets low on health, the tank should drag the mob away from the raid, to minimize the number of people hit with the Mana Burn and Fear effect. While all of this is happening, there should be other Warriors tanking the Qiraji Slayers and Champions away from the raid.
Off tanks should be tanking the Qiraji Slayers with their backs against the wall, to avoid the knockback as much as possible. Hunters also need to watch closely, to get out Tranquilizing Shots whenever the Slayer enrages. Once the Qiraji Slayers are brought down, the raid can move on to the Qiraji Champion and finish the pack off. Again, the tank should have a constant stream of Fear Ward or access to a Shaman's Tremor Totem, to break any fears coming from Intimidating Shout. Once the Qiraji Champion's health is low enough and he obtains Vengeance, someone in the raid needs to dispel it right away, and finish him off.
Anubisath Warder & Obsidian Nullifer
These last couple trash pulls before C'thun, the final boss of Temple of Ahn'Qiraj are made up of 1

. Like previous Anubisath mobs, the Anubisath Warder will receive random abilities on pull, in addition to the Fire Nova ability. The Obsidian Nullifier acts similarly to previous Obsidian mobs, where he will Drain Mana and cast a devastating spell if allowed to reach a full mana bar.
Anubisath Warder Abilities
火焰新星
deals Fire damage in an area-of-effect around Anubisath Warder, which can be mitigated by Greater Fire Protection Potions. While this damage isn't much to deal with, if an Obsidian Nullifier is able to get out a Nullify, many, many players in the raid can die to a single Fire Nova!
Entangling Roots & Fear
纠缠根须
will target a random player and place an entangling root on all enemies around that player. The root effect doesn't last too long and can be broken out of by PVP Insignia Trinket, Shapeshift from a Druid, Improved Sprint from a Rogue, or Escape Artist from Gnomes.
恐惧
goes out on the area around the Anubisath Warder, sending any nearby players running away. Warrior tanks should have on Fear Ward or a nearby Tremor Totem to break free from these fears, as well as saving Berserker Rage to break out of a fear.
Dust Cloud & Silence
灰尘之云
will reduce melee chance to hit by 85%, effectively making all melee damage impossible for the raid. Because of how detrimental this can be for the main tank, the tank should be focused on spamming as many abilities and auto-attacks as possible when the raid is focusing down the Obsidian Nullifiers, so by the time they finally switch over to attack the Anubisath Warder, the main tank will have enough threat.

will completely silence all nearby players, which causes problems for healers and ranged damage dealers. Thankfully the maximum range of Silence isn't far enough to stop healers max ranging the tank, so heals will still be able to go out on the main tank, holding threat on the Anubisath Warder.
Obsidian Nullifier Abilities

hits up to three targets in front of Obsidian Nullifier, dealing damage in a cone in front of the mob. For this reason, tanks need to be careful and tank the Obsidian Nullifier facing away from the raid, so the cleave doesn't hit multiple players, putting a strain on healers.

will steal mana from any mana users within line-of-sight of the Obsidian Eradicator, targeting the nearest 16 players. All mana drained will begin to fill up the Obsidian Eradicator's mana bar, which starts out completely empty.

will go out in the event Obsidian Nullifier's mana bar is completely full, immediately removing all buffs from nearby players and reducing their health to 1. This can be a problem if the Anubisath Warder is nearby and about to cast Fire nova, which would completely wipe out a large chunk of the raid!
Anubisath Warder & Obsidian Nullifier Strategy
These pulls are relatively simple and only require good coordination and positioning from the raid. When the mobs are pulled, the tank should immediately pick up the Anubisath Warder and figure out what two abilities the Anubisath has. Meanwhile, the entire raid should be burning down the Obsidian Nullifiers and draining their mana, if necessary, because it would be a disaster to allow their mana bar to fill up. Once both Nullifiers have been killed, the entire raid will turn to the Anubisath Warder and bring them down. Ranged should always try to stay at absolute max range, to avoid any Silence effects going out.

It should be noted that the knock away ability from the Anubisath Sentinel is also a threat drop.

For the Mindslayers, their

also fears the target for the duration, and it seems to be uninterruptible. The fear from the mana burn cannot be dispelled.
