Welcome to Wowhead's guide to Burning Crusade Classic
裁缝
! Tailoring is the primary skill for creating Cloth armor for Mages, Warlocks, and Priests. It is also used to craft both general use bags and profession bags, as well as the new leg enchants, Spellthread.
This guide will show you how to get started in Burning Crusade Classic Tailoring, including best paired professions, races and classes, differences between the current retail expansion and TBC, finding profession trainers, and the basics of crafting items in Tailoring.
What is Burning Crusade Classic Tailoring?
Tailoring is the art of turning cloth and other raw materials into cloth armor, usable by Mages, Warlocks, and Priests. In The Burning Crusade, Tailoring also creates various types of Spellthread, a permanent leg enchantment.
While Tailoring in The Burning Crusade differs from Classic in that it only uses one base cloth (
灵纹布
), it uses that base cloth to create many different kinds of cloth, including
魔化灵纹布卷
and
灵魂布卷
, and the Specialty cloths
原始月布
,
暗影布
, and
魔法布
.
Tailors also now gain Specializations to help create some of these Specialty cloth, as well as the ability to learn the recipes to create special Cloth Armor sets and other pieces with them. More on Tailoring Specializations follows.
Tailors will also be able to make new 16- and 18-slot bags, new profession bags,
Spellthread
for providing permanent augments to Legs, and other assorted items.
Best Professions to Pair with Tailoring
The classic pairing for Tailoring is
附魔
. Since Tailoring doesn't require many items from gathering professions, relying instead on farming cloth from mob drops, Enchanting is a good profession to go along with it. Enchanters can Disenchant most Tailored items for Enchanting materials.
An interesting alternative might be
工程学
, since the Engineer-created
气阀微粒提取器
can speed up farming of desirable elemental Motes to create Primals. Many higher level Tailoring recipes require a lot of Primals.
Still others like to pick up a gathering profession to help augment their money-making opportunities.
草药学
or
采矿
go well in this role.
Best Races and Classes to Learn Tailoring
There is no race with any particular advantages for Tailoring.
Differences in Tailoring Between Retail and Burning Crusade Classic
Tailoring specializations were introduced in The Burning Crusade, but were removed from the game at the beginning of Cataclysm, so these no longer exist in Retail.
In TBC, there are specialty Cloth recipes that require long cooldowns and standing in specific locations to do combines. Long cooldowns for creating TBC specialty cloth was removed at the beginning of WoTLK; the cooldown for Classic
月布
was removed partway through TBC. No cloth in Retail currently requires a long cooldown or a special location.
In Retail, creating Bandages is part of Tailoring. In TBC, First Aid is still as standalone secondary skill anyone can learn.
In Retail, tailoring does not create any permanent enchants. In TBC, Spellthread creates permanent enchants for Leg armor.
In Retail, there are no new recipes for profession bags. In TBC, there are several new profession bags made by Tailors, including
大附魔袋
and
珠宝袋
.

Reputations for Tailoring in Burning Crusade Classic
There are several reputations in Burning Crusade Classic that offer Tailoring patterns, although Tailors get off fairly lightly in this expansion. The following is a list of all reputations that offer Tailoring patterns, how many recipes they offer, and what max reputation level you need to acquire them all. For a list of reputation-related recipes, please consult the Tailoring Patterns guide:

Ashtongue Deathsworn also have Tailoring recipes, but this will not be released until Phase 3 of Burning Crusade Classic. This information will be added at the time of release.
Should Tailors Choose Aldor or Scryer?
This is possibly more complicated for Tailors than for other class professions, but not for the reason you might think.
The Aldor and the Scryer each offer two Spellthread patterns. The Aldor patterns provide healing and spell damage; the Scryer patterns provide spell power and stamina. The Aldor also offer three cloth armor patterns that provide fire resistance. None of these create BoP items.
However, there is a unique consideration when choosing Aldor or Scryer for Tailors.
Tailors may choose Specializations in TBC, and one of these is Shadowcloth Tailoring. The main place to do the combines for creating Shadowcloth is at the Altar of Shadows, which is located very near to the Sanctum of the Stars in Shadowmoon Valley. Only those aligned with The Scryers can use this flight point; the Aldor flight point in Shadowmoon Valley is nowhere near this area. Therefore, Tailors wishing to specialize in Shadowcloth might wish to put a check in the box in favor of choosing The Scryers, if there are not more compelling reasons to choose The Aldor.
Note:
You don't actually have to declare for either, but it will limit some options and flight points later on. You can also switch sides through a long, grindy process and get all the recipes.
Burning Crusade Classic Reputations Overview
How to Craft Tailoring Items
Most Tailored items do not require any specific place to do combines, but there are four exceptions:
You need to visit a
Mana Loom
in Shattrath's Lower City to create
魔化灵纹布卷
.
The three Speciality Cloths -
原始月布
,
暗影布
, and
魔法布
- must be combined in specific locations. This is discussed more indepth under "Specialty Cloth" below.
The thread used in most Outlands Tailoring is
符文线
, a familiar item to Classic tailors. No new thread was introduced in TBC. Beyond this, there are many farmed ingredients you will need to make tailored items. Lists of farmed ingredients in the Tailoring Patterns guide.
Several tailoring patterns are trainer-learned, but you will also find designs from drops, reputation vendors, and other sources across Outlands.
For more information on where to find all known tailoring patterns in Outlands, please visit our separate guide:
Mana Looms for Imbued Netherweave
There are two Mana Looms in Shattrath. You need to be standing at one of these looms to create
魔化灵纹布卷
.
The first Mana Loom is located at /way 66.5 68.9, and the second is at /way 62.1, 71.0. Be careful if you are using the second one, as it's right next to
伊拉尔
at /way 61.7, 70.9. If someone turns in
血蓟交易……
to him, he will start projectile vomiting, which will interrupt your clothmaking efforts (which makes total sense under the circumstances).
Safe Mana Loom at /way 66.5 68.9, vs. Barfy Mana Loom at /way 62.1, 71.0
Specialty Cloth
There are three types of Specialty Cloth Tailors can create:
原始月布
,
暗影布
, and
魔法布
. These bear some resemblance to some of the restrictions around creating
月布
in two ways:
There is a long cooldown period between combines for each type of cloth of 92 hours (3 days, 20 hours), although this cooldown is not shared.
You must be in a specific location to do this combine:
原始月布
- must be standing near a Moonwell. Combines will result in the Moonwell Restoration buff, restoring +12 health and +5 mana per second for 1 hour.
暗影布
- must be standing at the Altar of Shadows in Shadowmoon Valley. Combines will result in the Shadowy Fortitude buff, giving +25 STA for 1 hour.
魔法布
- must be standing in Netherstorm. Combines will spawn a Nether-Wraith; defeating it yields 1-3 Motes of Mana and 1-3 Motes of Fire.
Side Note about Cloth Cooldowns: The cooldown for creating Classic-era
月布
was removed in Patch 2.4, so we expect it will be removed partway through The Burning Crusade too.
There are several Moonwells in Outlands, although you can also make them in any Moonwell in Azeroth.
/way 80.4 65.1 Zangarmarsh Cenarion Refuge Moonwell
/way 45.1 23.6 Terokkar Forest Cenarion Thicket Moonwell
/way 37 63 Blade's Edge Sylvanaar Moonwell Alliance Only
/way 62 39 Blade's Edge Evergrove Moonwell
Cenarion Thicket is closest to Shattrath, but the Evergrove Moonwell in the Ruaan Weald area of Blade's Edge Mountains is just a few steps away from the Evergrove flight point. The only one not accessible to both factions is Sylvanaar, which is deep inside an Alliance settlement.
The Cenarion Thicket Moonwell: just ignore the dead druid.
The Altar of Shadows: /way 58.3 70.9 Shadowmoon Valley
This is just south of the Sanctum of the Stars flight point, so Shadowweave Tailors may wish to consider joining the Scryers due to its convenience to the flight point. For those still without flying mounts at this point, the easiest way to walk there is to take Netherwing Pass east of Sanctum of the Stars at /way 62.4 62.4
Tailoring Specializations
While any tailor can create the three types of cloth, Specialists create 2 of these per combine instead of 1. Given the long cooldown, that in itself would be a reason to pick one, but Specialists also get sole access to recipes creating items with that cloth.
You must also decide which specialization you want to pursue. You can change Specializations, but you will lose access to that specialization's recipes and it will cost to switch (though this might not be available early in the expansion; it was originally introduced in patch 2.1). Each specialization creates a three-piece epic set with cumulative bonuses that only they can wear, as well as other items.
The full
原始月布
set increases spell power, restores mana every 5 seconds, and allows 5% of your mana to regenerate while casting.
The full Shadowweave set,
暗影之拥
, increases spell power and your Frost and Shadow damage spells heal you for 2% of the damage they deal.
The full Spellcloth set,
魔焰之怒
, increases spellpower and Critical Strike, as well as increasing spell damage by up to 7% of your INT.
Primal Mooncloth, Shadow's Embrace, and Wrath of Spellfire sets
To learn a Tailoring Specialization, you must be at least level 60 and have 350 Tailoring.

Tailoring is most suited for the cloth classes (Mage, Priest, and Warlock), as the new Tailoring Specializations create cloth armor pieces only they can wear.
This is inaccurate. Any class can "equip" cloth gear and tailoring is arguably a great choice for resto/balance druids.
