The TImewalking version of the Mage Tower Challenge follows Timewalking gear rules. Your gear, trinkets and stats do matter, but all your gear is scaled down to a maximum item level of 50. In order to maintain a similar challenge throughout expansions, many items and abilities have been deliberately disabled including
Covenants, Legendaries, and Azerite powers/gear
.
To avoid unnecessary farming of past expansion gear, this guide will be aimed at getting your Dragonflight character through the Mage Tower Challenge using mostly items readily available in the current Dragonflight expansion. Particularly powerful items from past expansions will be noted below but shouldn't be necessary to complete the challenge, though they may give you an additional edge. Optimizing Past Expansion Gear for Legion Timewalking Mage Tower Challenges
Best Retribution Paladin Stat Priority for Mage Tower Challenge
Ret doesn't want to stack only one or two specific Secondary stats. You'll want a healthy mix of all of them for optimal damage. If you have to choose, then having slightly more Versatility is probably slightly better purely for the survivability bonus that it provides, but again, don't stack it - you'll want a decent amount of every secondary stat.
If you have gear with sockets available, it'll always be better to use that over gear without it, since it's all scaled down to the same item level anyway.
Best Retribution Paladin Consumables and Enchants for Mage Tower Challenge
When it comes to Timewalking gear, you can enhance your gear in a multitude of different ways not currently available in Shadowlands. While these extra enhancements and enchants might give you a slight edge, they shouldn't be necessary to complete the challenge. As such, we'll mostly be looking at what Dragonflight consumables and enchants you can use to help your character in the challenge.

Retribution Paladin Strategy & Walkthrough for Mage Tower Challenge
Below we'll provide a thorough breakdown of the Mage Tower challenge encounter detailing a step-by-step walkthrough of each stage or phase as well as notable enemies and abilities. We'll offer strategies for overcoming each obstacle though there's usually multiple ways of overcoming difficulties.
Overview
During this encounter you'll fight three enemies at once -

, who all share damage taken. Although there aren't any specific phases for it, since they have different health pools you'll end up only fighting two enemies by the end, which will actually make the encounter easier as you progress.
There are a couple of environmental mechanics that happen throughout the fight -

spawns three purple runes on the ground that slowly shrink. If they disappear, they will deal lethal damage. They don't all spawn at the same size, so you should run to the smallest one first, even if it's the furthest away. Save

for this.

spawns a wave of Val'kyr along one side of the room that charge across the room. There will be a small gap between them, so just position yourself anywhere in that gap before they charge. If you need to you can use
圣盾术
to immune the damage, but it's a very useful defensive to have for the rest of the fight too.

will also spawn occasionally, which will heal you if you run through them.

You can cleave her with one or both of the other enemies in the fight, only cast

when she begins casting

, and then break it again after a couple of seconds to keep cleaving.

Otherwise, you can use

is at maximum diminishing returns (15 seconds), cleave her again with

while you wait for the CC diminishing returns to wear off, and repeat. See the

If you're struggling with damage then cleaving may be better for you, but leaving her CC'd is generally easier mechanically.

This challenge does not have a difficult damage check. Take your time and focus on mechanics and your health instead of your damage. After about 6 minutes each enemy will begin casting

"The easiest way to deal with Sigryn is to keep her CC'd with Repentance for most of the encounter so that you don't have to deal with Blood of the Father". Untrue , she just breaks out of Repentence and casts it anyway. Also barely enough time to cast Repentance when she actually casts it

Is it me or does this time around feel harder. Trying to forget what is already muscle memory as far as my rotation isn't easy. Basically you need to be playing like it's Legion again and throw everything after out the window...
I was wondering does anyone have any ideas for alerts besides WA (if there is any)? DBM, GTFO, none of them are working during this encounter.

I managed to do this fight pretty easily after adapting to the way we are supposed to do this fight now in comparison to legion, you cannot let sigryn cast the aoe ability period, if she gets the cast off and you let her sit in repentance you will not meet the damage check requirement. Soon as she starts to cast it you need to drop everything you are doing and cast rep on her, i suggest using some sort of focus macro so as soon as you hear the audio for it you hit rep. the only time you ignore this is if the runes are on the floor and the smallest one is gonna blow, you grab the smallest one first and then rep and continue grabbing the runes. If sigryn doesnt get the cast off at all you can go straight back to DPSing all 3 of them which is the key to winning this fight. HoJ the guy during blade storm kite him during enrage, single target the caster when he has his shield up and interrupt at the last second to save some extra damage taken. The hardest part is when all 3 get low and they start to chain skills back to back and the valkyrs are spawning often. If you havent let sigryn get her cast off and have been cleaving the entire fight, (ONLY ST DURING THE SHIELD PHASE.) all of them should be pretty low by this point. I killed the enraging guy first being my main target to cleave off followed by the caster and then the fight was over.
Talents I used were:

Blade of Wrath but you can use Empyrean Power here I should have.

Cavalier
Divine Purpose
Healing Hands
Sanctified Wrath
Gear used was mainly PvP shadowlands gear with some pieces of Korthia gear that had haste vers and leech on only thing outside of SL used was ravaged seed pod from first boss in emerald nightmare, 1 min CD good aoe damage and the extra leech meant more time cleaving and less time WoG'ing myself.
Consumes:
Strength Flask
Potion of Prolonged Power, 39 primary stat for 1 min
Sharpening Stone +20 AP
Didn't use drums or food.
Killed within 10 attempts.
Make sure you Rep sigryn as soon as she casts and you will see your progression improve a lot.

I should clarify, there is no true "Damage check requirement" but the longer the fight goes on the more overlap you have on abilities and the less chance you have at succeeding. You can mess up sigryn casting and sit the 30seconds till her buff wears off but it makes the fight a lot harder as things start to overlap more often with even smaller room for error. On my kill of her she got one cast off and I had to sit the 30 seconds but no other casts made it through, fight was over before the back to back overlaps happened.

Having finally killed this, I want to point out that there are two parts of this guide which really need to be removed/changed as they aren't accurate or helpful for the version of the Mage Tower on live servers. Those are:
"This is not a damage check, outside of Ancestral Knowledge. Take your time and focus on mechanics and your health instead of your damage."
"You can either keep Sigryn CC'd with Repentance for most of the encounter so that you don't have to deal with Blood of the Father, or you can fight her with the other two for more damage and just use Repentance when she begins to cast it."
I wasted hours attempting this fight a certain way based on those parts of the guide. The fight is a damage check. Major mechanics start to be cast on a short timer (15 seconds) by all three enemies simultaneously after the 5 minute mark. When that happens, you will be getting Jarl's enrage (Berserker's Rage), Faljar's channel + shield (Ancestral Knowledge) and Sigryn's AoE (Blood of the Father) at the same time. It's not impossible to survive after that point (my "best" attempt in terms of fight length was 6+ minutes), but it's much more difficult and requires having major cooldowns available. You'll also spend so much time dealing with mechanics that your actual damage to enemies will be pretty low from that point onwards.
It's much easier - and seems to be the intended approach - to have the fight over before you even reach that point (my kill was around 4:45, avoiding it entirely). In order to do that you need Sigryn to not be CC'd, and to maximise as much as possible the amount of time spent hitting all three enemies with Divine Storm, Consecration and Final Reckoning (if talented). That means CCing her with Repentance to interrupt her Blood of the Father cast, but then immediately breaking her out (unless dealing with other mechanics, in which case she can stay CC'd for a few seconds). DBM's "Challenges (Mage Tower/Torghast)" module has accurate timers, and gives you a 5 second countdown for Blood of the Father specifically; start casting Repentance when it says 1 and the timing will work out okay - you need her to start, but not finish, the cast so that DBM gives you a timer for the next one.
In terms of talents, for my kill I ran:
Zeal

Repentance
Cavalier
Seraphim
Healing Hands
Final Reckoning
Repentance is obviously required to deal with Sigryn. I did a lot of attempts with Blade of Wrath instead of Empyrean Power, and honestly a lot of them were probably a waste of time - the DPS difference when I switched to Empyrean Power was pretty noticeable. I tried a couple of times with Divine Purpose and it felt a lot worse than Seraphim, same for Sanctified Wrath over Final Reckoning. If you positioned perfectly you could likely get away with not having Cavalier, but it's just not worth risking; there were a few times on my kill where I absolutely would have died if I didn't have Divine Steed available.
Gear was just my regular Shadowlands raiding gear, except for switching out two pieces. I switched Phial of Putrefaction for Decanter of Anima-Charged Winds; that was probably a DPS loss, but was something I'd done for my CC strategy attempts so that any Phial DoTs on Sigryn wouldn't break Repentance. I also switched out my 239 raid shoulders for a pair of 252 shoulders from the vault; not because item level matters, but because the 252 ones had what seemed like better secondary stats (crit/vers rather than crit/mastery).
I made three macros to replace specific abilities on my bars so that I didn't have to switch targets away from Faljar when dealing with any of the mechanics.

Just finally manage to do it after like 50 tries.
As said above, cleaving as much as you can is the key - this means interrupt on caster mob to stack him when Jarl is stationary, generally stacking mobs and trying to stay on mid circle facing outwards so that sigrin places puddle outwards and you can reach runes and healing orbs easily.
Use Shield of vengeance prepull, pull sigrid with BoJ and immideatly interrupt caster mob and bring them to Jarl so they are nicely stacked up. Now get your back to wall so that sigrid doesnt kick you away, pop drums and potion of prolong power and smash as much dmg as you can with wings.
This gave me high dps burst so that mechanic overlapping didnt even happen when Jarl died.
This was a key since i didnt do it on previous attempts, saving lust for later but since mechanic overlapping is time based not %-based, popping everything on pull is best output value.

P.S.: Pally is my alt where I only play as tank so gear was tank based (haste/mastery) from shadowlands. Went for hakkar tank trinket for 'oh crap' moments since i didnt have better one. Seemed way harder then back in legion where i did it easily in like 15 pulls when it released.

I've just completed the challenge minutes ago and, as many of you have commented, it is indeed a dps race.
My talents were: Zeal, Empyrean Power, Repentance, Cavalier, Divine Purpose, Healing Hands and Final Reckoning.
My strategy was: pull with consecration under Jarl Velbrand and Sigryn, interrupt the Runeseer, pop Avenger's Wrath, Shield of Vengeance and Blood-Spattered Scale (despite this being a tank trinket, it was invaluable in breaking the Runeseer's shield when I had everything down).
On the Runeseer's first shield, I popped Drums and Potion of Prolonged Power (thanks wowhead comment section for that tip, absolutely a game changer).
After that, when the Jarl was about to spin, I used Hammer of Justice to stop him, Repentance on Sigryn to stop her cast, at which point I had Reckoning and Avengers' Wrath again. This, essentially, gave me the dps to outrun the burst. In regards to damage, I did 280k with 708 dps, so around 6.6 minutes if my math is correct. My dps slowed way down after I defeated the Jarl as I was more focused on stopping the casts and avoiding the valkyrie pain train, at this point, Sigryn was around 24% HP. At around 21% I popped my bubble and dps'd until the 20%, never killing the Runeseer.
I'd like to make a couple points:
1. I was EXTREMELY lucky with RNG regarding the valkyries and runes.
2. It took me since Thursday (Dec 9th) of trial and error. This is on me, I should have read the guides more attentively. A less dumb, headstrong player, should achieve significantly quicker success.
3. I'm a main tank, I ended up switching to the dps challenge pre-nerfs, I don't regret my decision
4. The experience will vary, but I did not have fun, at all, the encounter felt overtuned, I'm not satisfied, I'm relieved and the challenge made me sincerely consider stopping playing.
5. In my honest opinion, a nerf of at leat 10% HP across the board is warranted to make the encounter doable but challenging.

Can confirm that this is a dps check. It can obviously be done by keeping Sigryn CC'ed with Repentance but that is just making it needlessly more difficult and creating more opportunities to slip up and die. It should not be encouraged as a "General strategy".

Keeping Sygryn CC'ed makes the fight much harder since later in the fight you will see more mechanics coming at the same time and lose a significant amount of time dodging mechanics. Bosses eventually get enraged and will kill you instantly.
After spending roughly 40 unsuccessful pulls trying to meet the dps check, I changed to the cleaving strategy. I was able to kill the boss on the very first attempt.

just cleared after 70~ tries. never even seen this encounter so had to learn from the ground up (i mained DH / boomy in legion).
i can attest to the fact that it is MUCH easier to just cleave all 3. the timers at the 5 minute mark are absurd. once i swapped to the following strat i had it down within a few tries:
shield of veng pre pull
engage sig
kick caster
stack on jarl
blow lust/pots/cds and go for mega damage
keep bosses as stacked as possible. always try to stand on one rune spawn point pre rune spawn
those little changes made it infinitely easier for me, ended the fight at 955 dps. no broken trinket either, just used pvp trinkets from the current season. coulda been way easier if i had en trinket

wanted to throw in another vote for the "cleave them down" strat. got this down in about 25 tries having never done this challenge before.
i also used the
superior BFA str pot
and it was a big help. ret is a very bursty spec, you're multiplying your cleave across three bosses, and that first burst window has no mechanics and lust, so using this over other potions gave me several % boost. i finished out my first wings with the bosses under 70%, which made the challenge much easier. finished the fight at about 1.4K dps (before the end of fight rp)

extremely
hard. Don't go in to this thinking it'll be a breeze, you really have to know the class and the rotation in order to beat this.
I finally,

beat this after about 70-80 pulls. My kill time was a little after 7 min
Important Notes:
- You
DO NOT
have to kill Sigryn. I was under the impression you had to bring her down to 0% or 1%. This is
NOT
the case. I don't remember exactly what % she was at when the fight ended, but she had about a quarter-ish of her health left.

You don't have to kill both Jarl and Faljar
. I was able to beat this challenge with Jarl dead, and Faljar at 7% health left.
- Cleave all 3 bosses and dps as much as you can. There is a
lot
of moving around, but try and keep dpsing as much as you can, as any damage to one boss gets copied to the others. So when you're hitting all three bosses with one aoe ability, you're doing 3x the amount of damage.
- At the start, pull Sigryn, int Faljar, and stack on Jarl. For about the first 20 seconds or so there are no mechs, so pop lust, pots, avenging wrath, blade of justice (to put down consecration), and go ham.
- Repentance Sigryn whenever she casts Blood of the Father. I had BigWigs' countdown to rely on which helped a lot.
- You don't have to have all your cooldowns for Faljar's Shield, so you can use cds more or less on cooldown, which helps a lot
- I casted Blade of Justice to put down Consecration (for Sanctify, as the damage is multiplied by 3 if all bosses are standing in it) and more or less used Avenging Wrath -> Divine Toll -> Final Reckoning -> Blade of Justice -> Divine Storm -> Judgment -> Wake of Ashes -> Divine Storm. With the talent Incandescence, it should add a lot more damage, as well as Sanctify.
- Try and save your horse and Blessing of Freedom for when you absolutely need it, as those are invaluable in this fight. Remember, you are able to outrun the Whirlwind, but there are times where it's better to use Hammer of Justice, especially when Sigryn is about to cast Blood of the Father

In 10.1 this is VERY easy. I do not know how to play ret, nor do I have ret gear - I have prot gear and a 2H I took from vault just to do this challenge. I specced ret probably for the first time since WOTLK, dragged the buttons onto my bars (after reading roughly what they did), made up a spec, went in with no consumables or special gear, prot stat weightings and still killed it in 3 tries. One wipe was literally because I thought repentence was instant - I swear it used to be, but maybe I'm going senile. This is the spec that I used:

Is it good? Probably not, but it did the job.
I'm not really the right person to give tips here, but reading some of the above, I have a feeling the advice to ignore DPS is not correct. Wipe numero dos was to hitting the 5 min overlap and, having already burned bubble to a previous mistake, having a rough time. So on the third try (kill), I just kept them stacked up, rotated some personals when the large man became angry and burned them out by about 4:40. Obviously do the mechanics, but they're extremely well telegraphed, you can pretty much drag the 3 of them around and murder them as you deal.
If you want to make life easy for yourself, use some consumables, including drums... or if you're really struggling, farm out some of the gear suggested elsewhere. But honestly, ret has such an insane toolkit for this fight, just keep the 3 of them stacked while blasting them down. The issues people were having in 10.0 just don't seem to exist any longer. If I can do it, you definitely can.

Use this talent:

(Use drums+potion on start for some juicy damage headstart)
Your hammer of justice (Single target stun) can be used every 20 sec with these talents so use it without hesitation On following casts:
Blood of the Father
(YES U DONT NEED THE STUPID REPENTANCE AND THE GUIDE KEEPS TELLING U TO USE IT)
(If u didn't have ur stun at the moment just use Blinding light it works like a miracle and is instant)
(If u failed to do all of the above options and the cast happened... stun him so u can dodge damage for 5 seconds, then use divine shield to survive for another 8 seconds, then use all defensives+ instant refill of ur hp using flash of light and word of glory (damage is lethal but I survived with these tricks.)
Berserker's Rage
(USE IT ON HIM AS SOON AS THE CAST HAPPENS AND USE BLESSING OF PROTECTION FOR REST OF THE DURATION TO STOP TAKING DAMAGE. UR JUDGEMENT SLOWS ENEMIES SO U CAN EASILY KITE HIM)
Bladestorm
(or u can just stay away but stun let u deal damage instead of runnning)
For rest of the fight it's just normal gameplay and mechanic playaround Make sure to use flash of light on cd and its totally fine if u failed to deal damage for few seconds because of mechanics.
Missing 1 Runic detonation won't kill u if u use 1 defensive... if sth is not lethal don't waste divine for it. In the end when a boss has less than 20% hp keep using Hammer of wrath on him for the 2 holy power generation and df season 2 tier set bonus aoe damage.
If u r actually a ret player and know what u r doing then with above strats u should be able do it in less than 10 tries.

I know it is written in guide, but you have to dps it (Bubble VISUALLY disappared) and then you have to cast

I decided to take this challenge on recently to get bear form and the mount. I completed 6 of them in 10.1.7 and the healer challenge just after 10.2 dropped. On each of the challenge pages it listed what is considered the easiest spec, which is what I used for each:
The Highlord's Return: Guardian Druid took me less than 10 attempts
Feltotem's Fall: BM Hunter (main) took me less than 10 attempts. I had completed all 3 Hunter challenges (Feltotem, Highlord, and the twins) in Legion and was familiar with these 3 fights already.
Thwarting the Twins: Frost Mage took me about 50 attempts
Closing the Eye: Havoc DH took me about 40 attempts
An Impossible Foe: Fury Warrior took me about 60 attempts
The God-Queen's Fury: Ret Paladin took me about 10 attempts
End of the Risen Threat: Mistweaver Monk took me about 30 attempts because I was interrupting at the wrong time in phase 1… only took me 3 attempts after making it past phase 1.
General Tips:
All characters were equipped in full 402 Time Rift and Dream Surge gear, Time Rift trinkets, and the 415 Dream Surge weapons. I did DF enchants and used DF flask and Sharpening stones on each attempt. Used feral hide drums as well but no DPS pots or food.
First and foremost, this is about the mechanics. Your primary focus should be to understand how to respond to each mechanic and be able to each one accordingly. Most mechanics are unforgiving.
I highly recommend creating a new talent loadout and moving spells/abilities you don’t need out of the way. Checkout your class specific talent recommendations, there are some common talents that you don’t need, like group utility and some often unused talents that can be very helpful like fury warrior Wrecking Throw. Mistweaver recommended a different build for each phase, which was very helpful.
Ensure that your main abilities (defensives and DPS CD's) are key bound or readily available to see/manage CDs and to use them in a timely fashion. For fury I had 2 DPS CD macros, one with Spear and Avatar and the other with Ravager and Reckless. Spear and Reckless I did as I was always positioning myself to deal with the adds.
Use macros where you can. For The Twins, I used a /target macro with Comet Storm to quickly switch to Hands and to generally saved that CD to drop quick DPS on the hands. For ret paladin I used with Hammer of Justice.
Turn off music and ambience noise. Turn up dialog. Turn sound effects down. These challenges emote their effects really well and can help you respond. You can of course use DBM and timers to manage the mechanics, I used DBM and tried to watch upcoming mechanics timers too, but most of the time, hearing the callout was good to "click the button" that responded to it (interupt, switch target, DPS CD, defensive CD, etc).
Use Plater addon, especially for An Impossible Foe. I didn’t use it until this challenge, but I found myself struggling to find the right imps to focus and to manage their HP. This really helped.
Most challenges require you to be able to execute your rotation and do decent DPS to beat the clock (mechanics overwhelming you).
I am a hunter main. Other than that, I'm average at best on all of the other classes. I used the Hekili addon to help me manage my rotations during the fights. I generally ignored DPS CDs as those are usually saved to manage certain mechanics/adds.
Don’t give up. They are all doable. Take breaks, if you are failing, especially to execute a mechanic a few times in a row revisit the guide or a youtube tutorial, maybe you're missing something. It's simply about learning the mechanics and then getting into the routine to respond to them, like any raid progression… as you get farther into fights you have less attempts on the new mechanics so master them one at a time.
Ret Tips:
Don't try to CC Sigryn, just cleave her.
Macro Hammer of Justice, only use it for Blood of the Father, I did not use it for rage or bladestorm. Also be aware of where she is so that you're in range to interupt. Sometimes your getting runes or dodging other mechanics, try to stay in her range.
Use defensives for Berserker's Rage and then get away. on the first cast use bubble and keep DPS'ing.
I macro'd avenging wrath and Divine Toll and generally tried to have it available for Ancestral Knowledge to break the shield but it wasn't entirely necessary.
also macro final reckoning just to save the click and instead of @cursor.
