Changes to Necrolord Outlaw Rogue in 9.2
bugs have all been fixed.
Necrolord Rogue Covenant Abilities
Necrolord Rogue Class Ability:
The Necrolord Class Ability for Rogues of all specializations is
. This spell has a 30 yard range and three charges on a 30 second recharge timer. For only 15 energy it sends a bone spike flying at your target and deals pretty good instant damage. It also applies an endless damage over time effect that ticks every 3 seconds. For every Bone Spike DoT that is active, you get an additional combo point to the one it provides baseline. If a target with the DoT dies the corresponding charge reset instantly. The endless bleed is otherwise removed when the target leaves combat. This ability essentially allows you to have up to 3 DoTs always ticking on your enemies. It is an interesting one to play with and can be pretty enjoyable.
For Outlaw, it is worth mentioning that the instant damage is mirrored to other targets via
. This makes it a pretty strong ability for AoE.
Necrolord Conduit for
The corresponding conduit that modifies this ability is
, which adds a chance for double ticks to the bleed.
This is a pretty good conduit for Outlaw in all situations.
Outlaw Rogue Conduit Guide
Necrolord Rogue Signature Ability:
is an interesting defensive cooldown. Hit it, get an absorb shield that goes up to 40% and reduce all damage taken by 20% while channeling the three-second cast. If used well this is a strong defensive. Its passive effect causes cooldown reduction from nearby enemy corpses.
All three soulbinds modify this in some way. While the other covenants get abilities that can be classified more as a utility, this is clearly one focusing on defensive purposes.
Necrolord Exclusive Legendary for Outlaw Rogues
NEW Necrolord Legendary
:
has 2 additional charges and hits 1 additional nearby enemy.
This legendary is one that has only little use and impact in single target situations. It gets better with more targets, especially for Outlaw where the damage from spike hits also translates into
. Numerically, since a nerf during PTR testing, it doesn't quite seem to have a strong enough niche for AoE either but it might still be worth keeping an eye on after the top legendaries.
Other Legendary Interactions for Necrolord Outlaw Rogues
There are no noteworthy legendary interactions that should affect this Covenant and soulbind choice or what legendary you want to target.
Outlaw Rogue Legendary Guide
Best Necrolord Outlaw Rogue Soulbinds
On the way to Renown 80, there is little reason to deviate from the Heirmir soulbind. It stays strong and simply gets strong new powers on top.
The below Soulbind Calculator is valid starting at Renown 57. Conduits are socketed in order of highest priority from top to bottom in order to facilitate the greatest benefit when empowering conduit rows from renown. Please see our
Outlaw Rogue Conduit Guide
for more information on Conduits including Empowered Conduits.
The soulbind setup for the AoE / Dungeons is a lot more preference based. Plague Deviser with
is a lot of extra damage in a dungeon environment, but could be swapped out for
on higher level dungeons. In addition
is great with
.
Necrolord Outlaw Rogue Covenant Rotation Changes
As usual, this page only highlights the specific use case of the class and signature abilities. To see how they fit within the context of the entire spec, we encourage you to check the other pages in the guide related to the context you are looking for:
Outlaw Rogue Rotation Guide
If you have multiple targets, you want to make sure you apply three bone spikes. Other than that, you will use Bone Spike on your main target and avoid capping on the three charges while staying around 2 in case additional enemies come in. If a fight is about to end you can burn remaining charges for the instant damage.
Fleshcraft is an ability you want to use for defensive purposes. There is no specific rule or recommendation. If you expect a dangerous incoming damage spike and you can channel the ability for it, then you should consider doing so. You can also talk about it with your raid/group if there are specific situations to save it for.
Necrolord Outlaw Rogue Talent Builds
Your talent build does not change when picking this covenant. There is no special interaction with our kit and no reason to deviate from what build you are already choosing anyway. You can simply refer to the talent page of the guide for more information on talents.

Necrolord Outlaw Rogue Gearing Differences
Being part of the Necrolord covenant does not really affect your gearing strategy or your stat priorities. As usual, we encourage you to sim yourself, and to also consider that, for generic play, the primary stat Agility provided by item level upgrades typically outweighs "better" secondary stats.

Necrolord Outlaw Rogue Soulbinds Explained
Across all classes and specs, Necrolords have access to the same three soulbinds:
Plague Deviser Marileth
,
Emeni
and
Bonesmith Heirmir
. They are the NPCs with whom you complete the zone story, and they allow you to "attune" yourself to them to gain access to a tree of upgrades centered around your base toolkit (through Conduits) and Covenant abilities (through special game-wide traits).
These trees progressively unlock based on completion steps (such as finishing the campaign) and your Renown level with the Necrolord Covenant.
We've summarized a few traits for each soulbind below, along with potential conduits to slot in, below. Do bear in mind that these recommendations are based on a PvE DPS perspective. You have every right to adjust your soulbind trees to your and your group's own needs. If you have an incentive to pick a utility or survivability option instead of throughput traits, don't let this guide stop you from doing so.
Plague Deviser Marileth grants you these dps-increasing traits:
empowers your
's passive by granting an additional buff based on the type of corpse you moved near. On top of that when using
, you get
. This can turn your Fleshcraft into a DPS cooldown if you want to use it as such and don't think you need the defensive.
List of All Volatile Solvent Buffs
- 2% Primary Stat Increase
- 3% Magic Damage Done Increase
- 78 Armor Increase
- 5% Magic Damage Taken Reduction
- Killing an enemy heals you for 5% of maximum health
- 120 Mastery Rating Increase
- 3% Stamina Increase
- 3% Critical Strike Increase
- 3% Physical Damage Increase and 10% Size Increase
With
, there is a damage increasing option that requires new targets. The 1 target limit is disappointing, so this trait is probably not worth the sacrifice of a Potency conduit, not even in dungeons.
is the final 9.1 power and also a damage increase as well as a passive absorb-provider for your allies whenever you use
.
An example tree to follow on this soulbind is as follows:
Emeni provides a couple of interesting nodes:
, the initial trait in the tree, functions as both personal and group buff. You and your party members are granted agility buffs and depending on the number of affected allies your personal gain is increased. This is a very good trait that also synergizes well with the charge-based design of our class ability.
provides stacking Haste when defeating mobs. Useful in M+, less so in raids. This trait replaces one Potency conduit though, which likely isn't worth it.
is a damage increase that requires you to be damaged or healed after using
. It is not the most straightforward or useful one, but still a damage increase.
An example tree can be seen below.
Picking Bonesmith Heirmir grants access to the following notable traits:
also comes with a fully passive 3% Agility increase, as long as you have 3 of your gear pieces enchanted. Not impressive, but a passive bonus at the top of the tree, so why not.
deals a relatively large amount of shadow damage over time to attackers. Requiring to be hit makes this more situational. It also has a 1s ICD and overwrites itself. Besides, it sacrifices the alternate path that provides a Potency conduit. Something that could be interesting for solo content but not as much for PvE group content.
grants you additional crit percentage every minute. It is a solid trait. Since it replaces a Potency conduit, a simulation is recommended to decide if that is worth it for your own character and your options. If in doubt and while we have lower ranks of conduits, I'm inclined to say, yes, it is worth it.
is a worthwhile damage-increasing trait to choose the path it is on. While not too impressive on long single-target fights, a gain is a gain, and this becomes better with regular add waves or trash packs in dungeons.
is the final 9.1 power and a rather straightforward passive damage increase in execute range. Great to have and another part of what makes this soulbind amazing for Necrolords.
Here is an example tree for this soulbind.
Double Legendaries for Necrolord Outlaw Rogue
Patch 9.2 adds the option of using two legendaries at the same time, with the restriction that one of them is your Covenant legendary. This change empowers Necrolord Outlaw Rogue even more. You can learn more about it in our Legendary Guide.

Bonespike disappearing from the enemy when they get a longer distance away is kind of killing the covenant in terms of DPS, especially on Council/Legion/Denathrius. Having to reapply the DoT costs a lot of CP in the long run and during Council/Denathrius it happens so often, there is almost no point in even trying.
