Necrolord Holy Paladin Covenant Abilities
Necrolord Paladin Class Ability:
The Necrolord Class Ability for Paladins of all specializations is
: a 30s cooldown ability that deals damage, empowers your next
, and casts a free
.
Eespecially outside of raids, there is a possibility that your free
will end up going to waste, as it is an AoE. Even if it does hit the maximum number of targets, this ability is just slightly undertuned on the raw numbers side. Both Venthyr and Kyrian will provide more healing than this Covenant.
Necrolord Signature Ability:
seems like a good ability. It is a fairly large absorb that last a long time. Mostly it will get ticked down by meaningless damage you would just heal up with leech, meaning it doesn't actually save you from anything life-threatening. If you decide to save it for a dangerous phase, realize it has a *very* long cast time, making it difficult to use unless there is nothing else going on for four seconds.
Paladins already are durable with abilities such as
and
giving us great survivability. More isn't strictly necessary.
Legendary Interactions for Necrolord Holy Paladin
There is some coaction with
and some legendaries. None of them are worth taking this Covenant over other choices, but if tuning were to change it is possible that Necrolord covenant would become more attractive.
has great synergy with
you will be proccing a free Light of Dawn, giving you more variety to spending your Holy Power. Also it works fairly well with
as you gain both benefits from this legendary with one cast.
I don't think either of those interactions change the status of this Covenant, but they could become important if things were to change.
Necrolord Holy Paladin Soulbinds
Across all classes and specs, Necrolords have access to the same three soulbinds:
Plague Deviser Marileth
,
Emeni
and
Bonesmith Heirmir
. They are the NPCs with whom you complete the zone story, and they allow you to "attune" yourself to them to gain access to a tree of upgrades centered around your base toolkit (through Conduits) and Covenant abilities (through special game-wide traits).
These trees progressively unlock based on completion steps (such as finishing the campaign) and your Renown level with the Necrolord Covenant.
We've summarized the optimal traits for each soulbind below, along with potential conduits to slot in, below. Do bear in mind that Endurance conduit choice will largely depend on which encounter you will be progressing, as their value changes dramatically based on the requirements they enforce.
Plague Deviser Marileth grants you two important traits:
is handy as an extra defensive layer.
doesn't have powerful throughput, but could be used to cheese specific mechanics.
Overall, this soulbind is pretty weak. I wouldn't recommend it for Holy as it provides very little actual throughput. However, since it is possible to use it to avoid cc by using
, it could be nice for specific niche encounters.
When Castle Nathria opens, you can look forward to having at least two Potency conduits and at least one useful trait in
.
Emeni provides a couple of interesting nodes:
is quite a nice ability. Due to the low cooldown of
, this provides great uptime.
is handy while out in the world, and even on some raid encounters with fall damage.
is a nice speed bosst for some situation, though it's rare you will be running with nearby enemies much.
Unfortunately, Emeni, though not fantastic is the most powerful option for Soulbinds here. There just aren't great soulbinds for Necrolord Holy Paladins
I don't recommend picking this soulbind early, as it takes a long time to get to that second Potency slot.
Picking Bonesmith Heirmir grants access to the following notable traits:
can be powerful. Even at half effectiveness, staying in the fight for an extra 10s can change the fight. Though not a technical throughput gain, this has a lot of utility associated with it for when things go wrong.
can be awkward, as it may proc at an awful time, or a great time. Either way it is a large boost to mobility and has some potential synergy with
.
(I'll be honest; I'm kind of reaching here. This soulbind just doesn't have much going for it).
I don't recommend this soulbind either. It just doesn't provide any meaningful throughput. Outside of the nice cheat death type effect it offers very little.
Best Necrolord Holy Paladin Early Soulbind
Emeni is pretty powerful early due to the strength of his root node.
Best Necrolord Holy Paladin Late Soulbind
Emeni remains a good choice as you progress, Necrolord above others struggles with Soulbinds, and ultimately Emeni is just the least bad one.
Necrolord Holy Paladin Covenant Rotation Changes

Holy Paladin Rotation Guide
This causes you to always want to use an
after
. This is a slight rotational change, but ultimately a minor one. Outside of that, it's simply a matter of using this hammer on cooldown. Try to use it to smooth out holy power where possible; for example, if you are at 4 holy power you can use this, and then spend.
Be mindful of using this when you are at 5 holy power. In many situations, you are better off spending -> generating -> spending -> generating -> casting this. Or using it before you ever reach 5 holy power.
The only time you use this ability is before the pull, or if there is absolutely nothing else going on. Most globals will be better spent on practically anything else.
Necrolord Holy Paladin Talent Builds
Your talent build should not change with this Covenant. There is some potential synergy with different talents. But they aren't powerful enough to change how you want to select your talents.

Necrolord Holy Paladin Gearing Differences
Your Covenant choice will not affect gearing in any way. Your stat priorities and gearing goals remain consistent throughout all of the Covenant abilities.
Having said that, if a world ever existed where this Covenant was buffed, and you used
as a legendary. By using
you will want to focus more on Mastery.

Just want to say a really appreciate the work put in and I’m not sure if this is done similarly on the other guides. I’m picking to have a necrolord paladin cause a like the looks and the zone and the story. Power and choices within and some optimisation matters to me but for me the choice of covenant was more important for the story and extra systems than the throughput it gives me for the content I plan to do. It was disheartening to see this written from the perspective that this isn’t a covenant we should choose rather than given you choose this covenant this is our tips. Totally fine to crap on it’s throughput but it just seemed to be written from the perspective of this isn’t the main choice rather than “you’ve become a necrolord now what”.
If this is just the right thing for the audience reading this then cool that makes sense, ignore this.
