Necrolord Fury Warrior Covenant Abilities
Necrolord Warrior Class Ability:
The Necrolord Class Ability for Warriors of all specializations is
: a planted area effect that increases the maximum health and critical strike chance of the player and two allies, while also allowing the Warrior to stack Glory to increase their critical strike damage even after the Banner expires.
The banner provides a number of good effects and can actually become quite a powerful personal buff when combined with
and
, but it remains a controversial ability due to its ground placement limitations and being considered more of a group buff.
It cannot move once placed. Though the area of effect is fairly generous, it can lead to loss of value when moving or if all enemies in the area die quickly.
Buffing allies is generally balanced out by providing less of a buff for the player themselves, which is rarely a good feeling.
There is little control over who gets buffed. It is limited to buffing two allies, which makes it a mediocre group-wide cooldown.
Glory can be stacked up and persists after the Banner expires, but the critical strike damage buff is less effective without the banner's critical strike chance increase.
Fury in particular does not value critical strike or critical strike damage very highly.
The banner is not a valid target, so
cannot target it for increased mobility.
This makes it generally disliked, despite having a unique theme and offering a number of otherwise nice bonuses. It has a lot of theoretical potential both offensively and defensively, but also presents a drawback in every situation that would be desirable. It's difficult to control who gets buffed it in tightly packed groups, only buffs three players out of an entire group or raid, and is easily avoided in PvP combat. While it can be used to good effect with a well-organized group pulling packs into its area in a Mythic+, for example, it requires a lot more coordination than other Covenant abilities, which are largely fire and forget.
is the Necrolord specific conduit, adding an extra effect to the Banner which helps make into a stronger personal cooldown. Unfortunately, it's not enough to make it a competitive one, but it remains a moderate option for players choosing Necrolord regardless.
Necrolord Warrior Signature Ability:
Covenant signature abilities are defensive/utility in nature, and
provides a fairly powerful shield which can be reapplied during long combats. While this can add up to a good amount of damage mitigation over the course of an encounter, the downside is the need to rechannel the effect every 2 minutes. The tradeoff is almost always worthwhile, especially before an expected period of high incoming damage. As an added bonus, it's possible to create an bigger shield after defeating enemies, but that shouldn't be relied upon. The only real downside to the shield is that it's tied to such a mediocre combat ability.
Each soulbind can add an additional bonus to the ability, although that alone won't often be a compelling reason to choose that Soulbind.
Legendary Interactions for Necrolord Fury Warriors
No legendary modifies either of these abilities, although some do have slightly increased burst potential when used during the banner or with a well stacked Glory bonus.
Fury Warrior Necrolord Soulbinds
All classes have access to the same three Necrolord soulbinds:
Plague Deviser Marileth
,
Emeni
and
Bonesmith Heirmir
. They are the NPCs with whom you complete the zone story, and they allow you to "attune" yourself to them to gain access to a tree of upgrades centered around your base toolkit (through Conduits) and Covenant abilities (through special game-wide traits).
These trees progressively unlock based on completion steps (such as finishing the campaign) and your Renown level with the Necrolord Covenant.
Each Soulbind has access to two Potency slots. This would seem to make them equivalent choices, although the primary bonuses vary greatly between them. Some Soulbinds have access to two DPS bonuses, while others must give up a Potency slot to get to them, and others have none whatsoever, leading to some very obvious priorities when focusing on maximizing damage potential.
Plague Deviser Marileth is one of the weakest DPS Soulbinds with little access to damage dealing traits, although he does provide some fairly strong survivability buffs for players more interested in survivability or PvP than raw damage.
grants one of four buffs: 120 Mastery for consuming humanoids, 2% primary stats for beasts, 5% stamina for demons, and a 5% heal for undead. Due to the disparity between the usefulness of these buffs, it's not particularly helpful when presented with the "wrong" type of enemy. Players in groups may find themselves fighting over usable corpses.
is a very nice defensive ability, which works automatically and has a fairly low cooldown. While the shield isn't large, it can help stave off death, particularly when facing recurring rot damage.
is the only offensive trait in the tree, and requires giving up a Potency slot for a weak buff.
is also a great defensive trait more suited for PvP, but with some periodic PvE uses, particularly in Mythic+.
Due to the defensive nature of the soulbind, Plague Deviser Marileth isn't recommend for most PvE content.
Emeni is a curious soulbind which provides one of the strongest Mythic+ bonuses across all Covenants.
is a good ability that combines with
to turn Conqueror's Banner into a respectable personal buff. Due to the banner's role as a group buff, you should always gain the maximum amount of Strength from the effect, or close to it.
isn't as good as
on the opposite side of the tree, but is required in order to take the important Potency Conduit.
is
extremely
strong in Mythic+, with one major downside in that it is behind an Endurance Conduit rather than a Potency one. In this case, the tradeoff makes up for it, but keep in mind that the bonus is not always going to be relevant outside of Mythic+ dungeons.
If you're going Necrolord, this is a surprisingly strong Soulbind for Mythic+ due to the ability to chain and maintain the Haste buff continually, although whether that's worth taking Conqueror's Banner for is another matter.
Like the Plague Deviser, Bonesmith Heirmir provides nothing in the way of offensive potential, making it a poor choice for DPS players. That said, he has some fun bonuses which at least add a little bit of utility when world questing and doing other low-end content.
is technically an offensive ability but it only works after you die, so it's not particularly useful outside of the most extreme edge cases.
is also technically offensive, but locked behind an Endurance conduit. It only triggers when taking direct melee damage, rather than dealing it.
is great for world questing, which may give this soulbind some use just for the sake of speed.
likewise increases speed, but the 1 minute cooldown makes it underwhelming, even for world questing.
Outside of maybe switching just to get around a bit faster, there's very little reason to use this soulbind.
Best Necrolord Fury Warrior Early Soulbind
Assuming you picked Necrolord, there's really only one competitive choice, which is Emeni. The Plague Deviser may be moderately attractive for players worried about survivability, but the bonuses aren't really big enough to seriously incentivize it.
Early on, you will at least unlock a Potency conduit, and
is a good choice to combine with
for a much more powerful
. Later on, you can decide if you want
for Mythic+ and other content where targets are frequently dying, or whether the extra Potency Conduit is worth taking for more single target flexibility.
Best Necrolord Fury Warrior Late Game Soulbind
Emeni remains the most competitive choice for Necrolord players, gaining a second potency conduit for
and decent movement speed bonus, but the real value comes from changing out that second potency conduit for
- one of the best Mythic+ bonuses across all soulbinds. For this reason, and to save on conduit energy, you may wish to dedicate Emeni to this path and use the slightly weaker Bonesmith Heirmir for single target setups instead.
Necrolord Fury Warrior Covenant Rotation Changes
There are no rotational considerations, aside from syncing your
with
for increased rage generation to create more Glory stacks. Due to the length of each cooldown, this should happen naturally on its own anyway. To learn more about the Fury Warrior rotation and how it is played in Mythic+ and Raid, check out the rest of our guide.

Necrolord Fury Warrior Talent Builds
Your talent build does not change
at all
when picking this covenant. There is no interaction with our kit, no change to anything we do, and no reason to deviate from the standard build, which you can learn more about in the Talents section of the guide.

Necrolord Fury Warrior Gearing Differences
The Banner and Glory buffs favor stacking Critical Strike, but not to the point where the stat becomes valuable to go out of your way for. As usual, we encourage you to sim yourself, and to also consider that, for generic play, item level will be the most important factor to success.
What are Soulbinds in Shadowlands?
Soulbinds are important Covenant characters players encounter in the Shadowlands. Soulbinds bind themselves to players allowing them to use their powers to strengthen characters while in the Shadowlands.
