Necrolord Destruction Warlock Covenant
This ability is very strong on single target, and especially during execute phases where you're able to gain even higher % increases on your
damage stacks. This ability was nerfed when combined with
. This nerf makes this spell less attractive on multiple targets, but still very strong on single target. The class conduit
also empowers this ability.
's strength isn't as much in its missiles damage, but rather in the empowered
. That being said, this is by no means useless and still a decent buff to the abilities damage, especially during execute phases.
This ability is situationally a very nice defensive boost. While it can be annoying to channel, there are a few Soulbind options that make it a bit less annoying such as
. That being said, reaching this Soulbind perk takes you away from a Potency conduit slot which is not ideal.
The Soulbind tree for Necrolord is decent overall. It offers perks such as
, which makes for a nice boost to your stats. Another noteworthy mention here is
, which makes you immune to crowd control effects while casting
. This could be very strong in certain scenarios.
Legendary Interactions for Necrolord Destruction Warlocks
There are no Legendary modifiers to any of the abilities you gain through being a Necrolord. This may change in the future, but for now, you don't have anything to worry about here.
Necrolord Destruction Warlock Soulbinds
Necrolords have access to three Soulbinds:
Plague Deviser Marileth, Emeni,
. Each Soulbind offers you a variety of bonuses to further empower your character. The tree progressively unlocks based on completion steps and your Renown level with the Necrolord Covenant. In this section of the guide, I have summarized the optimal Soulbind traits for each Soulbind within the Necrolord Covenant. I have not inserted Conduits into the slots, but instead displayed the path you're likely to go with your Soulbind. The conduits will then later depend on what content you're looking to do.
has the potential to grant you all sorts of bonuses. These can be secondary stats, primary stats, and much more. Situationally strong since you're able to maintain decent uptime on this in open-world content and dungeons.
grants you a nice defensive bonus and takes you through a Potency conduit slot.
is an interesting trait that adds utility to the Covenant ability
. Essentially, you're able to save this ability to then dodge a mechanic during the 4 seconds you cast. Situationally very strong.
is the big one here. You will be able to maintain a decent uptime on this considering the cooldown of
also adds a nice bit of defensive value into
isn't a big bonus, but it allows us to pick up the Potency conduit.
Bonesmith Heirmir has some pretty cool bonuses.
is fun to play with. If you're about to die, you gain an extra 10 seconds to do what you can to help put your raid in the best position, considering they're about to lose a friend.
is also a strong Soulbind ability.
is a guaranteed critical strike hit, meaning we're able to stack this slightly faster.
Early Soulbind Options
Since you won't have a very high Renown level at the time of season 1's release, you will only have unlocked a couple of traits in your Soulbind tree. You're likely to go with Emeni here to pick up the
trait. Your build path with low Renown level is likely to look something like this:
Necrolord Destruction Warlock Covenant Rotation Changes
Your rotation changes slightly when playing Necrolord -- rather, it's having to keep something else in mind.
scales very well with low health targets, which means you will look specifically for lower-health targets - same with the buffed
casts. Prior to casting
, you should make sure you won't end up overcapping on Soul Shards after casting your buffed

. You can gain a lot of value from casting this during your
Unless you're playing a Soulbind trait that makes you want to save this, you should always cast
prior to pulling a boss unless you have to save it for something. It's not very good for your DPS to have to channel for 4 seconds without dealing any damage.
Necrolord Destruction Warlock Covenant Talent Builds
When specced into
, the buff you gain from casting
is considerably weaker. This has been done to make sure this combination wasn't insanely overpowered.
This doesn't mean this combination is useless, but often times you're probably better off playing either
as neither of these are affected.
Necrolord Destruction Warlock Covenant Gearing Differences
When it comes to gearing as a Necrolord, nothing really changes. The abilities and bonuses you gain through this Covenant shouldn't interfere much with what you would otherwise generally target. The Covenant abilities don't really change around your stats a whole lot, but you might see a slight increase in the value of Critical strike during the execute phase due to the nature of
