Necrolord Blood Death Knight Covenant Abilities
Necrolord Death Knight Class Ability:
憎恶附肢
The Necrolord Class Ability for Death Knights of all specializations is
憎恶附肢
: a 2 minute cooldown that, every second for 12 seconds (including on press), does AoE damage around you, and attempts to pull a target that currently resides 8-20 yards or further from you into melee range.
There are a lot of subtleties regarding the implementation of this spell, and caveats to note:
It attempts to grip when used
It
can
grip the same target repeatedly, but no more than once every 4s
It generates 3 Bone Shield charges on cast, and each 6 seconds after that, or a total of 9 bones over its duration.
It cannot grip targets immune to movement, or targets less than 8 yards away from you
It also cannot grip targets out of combat
This makes it an unreliable passively spammed single grip on a target you cannot control, which has very niche uses due to its unpredictable nature. On top of this, 8 yards might seem like very little, but it's actually quite a fair bit of distance to cover as a "oh, gotta grip" moment (think of a pseudo-interrupt to prevent a spell from being cast as the ideal example of this).
At its core, it's a high DPS covenant option that works better for Frost & Unholy than it does for Blood. That being said, it still has some benefits for Blood with providing Bone Shield charges every time its used, making it almost equivalent to 6 free runes per cast.

simply increases its potency by a percentage depending on the rank. You will typically sim it against

, as there is no other constraint on them other than pure, unadulterated damage.

Necrolord Death Knight Signature Ability:

looks appealing at first: hit it, progressively get a shield that goes up to 40% of your max HP, along with 20% damage reduction during the channel. Nice, simple, but technically more punishing than it looks.
First, let's list the good parts: each independent tick of
血肉铸造
snapshots your max HP. That's it, really. If
吸血鬼之血
is up while you use
血肉铸造
, you'll get slightly more out of it, but
it is not worth using
吸血鬼之血
purely for
血肉铸造
!
And now, the list of disappointments, the biggest problem you will notice is that it is an
interruptible
3 second channel that, unless you pick Emeni for
艾米妮的可行动躯体
, roots you in place and prevents you from doing anything else. It does provide the same damage reduction as
符文分流
during the channel without costing a rune, however, so if you need something for a tankbuster and would rather save a rune, this is a
very
useful button to press.
Overall, the 9.0.5 rework to this ability made it somewhat usable, but not great still. Great players will micro-optimize the gaps in our rotation to use this to their advantage.
All three Soulbinds modify this in some way; we will get into that later. However, on its own, it is an ability you typically will use out of combat, commonly between pulls in M+.
Necrolord Exclusive Legendary for Blood Death Knights

There's a lot to unpack on this legendary, so let's cover the effects, one by one:
This is a net 30% damage increase on
憎恶附肢
compared to not having the legendary. Nothing spectacular, 17 damage events vs. 13.
With it equipped,

generation becomes... rather quick:

The first 1s off feels like a bug, but the remaining are all 4s apart (as expected), and the ability lasts

charges, up from 9. In theory, this sounds great. In practice, in all scenarios, you
will
overcap charges provided by this, thus reducing the value it provides. Additionally, In Mythic+, the moment you press
符文刃舞
with this already up, you are guaranteed to cap charges no matter what you do due to the increased parry and
白骨之盾
's internal cooldown, making this also a case where you will cap and diminish the value of this legendary. As their cooldown lines up exactly, you have an incentive to desync them by a minute, which may not always be possible.
As it stands right now, you'll waste the
白骨之盾
charges this legendary provides no matter what kind of content you do - or you'll be forced to desync
符文刃舞
to avoid this, which is risky as
憎恶附肢
already offers no defensive value beyond the
白骨之盾
charges and the runes it would save. This is further reduced by our tier set providing
much
longer
符文刃舞
durations (and therefore cheaper
白骨之盾
charges for longer!). When crafted with
团结的回忆
and used alongside your regular legendary choice, however, it just works as a nice little perk.
Other Legendary Interactions for Necrolord Blood Death Knights
With the 2-piece and 4-piece bonuses from Sepulcher of the First Ones,

is unparalleled for Necrolords, along with
墓石
. The ability to capitalize on the extra
白骨之盾
charges you would otherwise waste from
憎恶之狂
by spending them through
墓石
, along with the gigantic positive feedback loop from the 2-piece, leads to an absolutely crazy time.
With all the pieces in place, you can expect to
骨髓分裂
on average once every 30-35s. Every other rune you get, every other scrap of resource you have, ends up going into

.
Blood Death Knight Legendary Guide
Best Necrolord Blood Death Knight Soulbinds
Your choice of soulbinds will vary depending on the renown level you are at, as some traits present on them completely change the power dynamic once unlocked.
Best Necrolord Blood Death Knight Max Renown 80 Soulbind
The main power spikes for the various soulbinds are at the following levels:
Marileth
: 46 defensively (

As such, we cautiously recommend to stick with Bonesmith Heirmir the entire way until 55, and then decide further.
When everything is unlocked, you have two workable soulbinds fulfilling different roles:
In Mythic+ specifically,
Emeni
is useful as most of the soulbind's kit is geared towards your group - more primary when using
憎恶附肢
for you and your group (for a
very
long time!), extra bonus damage from fully channelling
血肉铸造
, and two potency conduits. Unlike in raids, this does not turn into a loss when the 2-piece set bonus is equipped.
Everywhere else,
Marileth
is now the de facto best choice. Thanks to having three potency slots without sacrifices (two of which really benefit from our 2-piece set bonus), a large amount of
extremely
valuable traits and the guaranteed mastery from
不稳定的溶液
, we're now just defaulting to him everywhere. Just remember to cast
血肉铸造
every 2min in raids, and on cooldown to suck up corpses in Mythic+. You don't need to fully channel it, you can just have one tick to gain the value of the soulbind.
We therefore recommend
Marileth
for raids and pug Mythic+, and
Emeni
in coordinated Mythic+ groups. We've listed the ideal soulbind path, including conduits, below:
Necrolord Blood Death Knight Covenant Rotation Changes
There is one simple change coming from this Covenant: you will ideally use
憎恶附肢
before
符文刃舞
. This nets you three
白骨之盾
charges at the start of
符文刃舞
and six more throughout, which means you will have two more runes than usual during it - the perfect opportunity for more
心脏打击
.

Blood Death Knight Rotation Guide
憎恶附肢
Abomination Limb should ideally be used on cooldown in situations where you do not mind pulling an occasional enemy in every second (i.e. you are not actively kiting a pack in M+). Simple, passive, raw damage with no strings attached. You should ideally drop yourself below 6 bone shield charges before casting it in order not to waste too many of the charges it provides!
If there is a single target you would like to move, you can use this as a pseudo-grip as well by moving away from it, but it is unreliable and finicky, and should therefore be saved as a last resort.

Fleshcraft should
not
be cast in the following circumstances:
You are able to do anything else to an enemy.
You will need to move in the next 3 seconds
This makes it an ability you use pre-pull and for very telegraphed tankbusters, and that's... well, kind of it. The
extremely
long cast kills virtually any use of it in-combat, sadly.
Necrolord Blood Death Knight Talent Builds
Your talent build does not change
at all
while picking this Covenant. There is no interaction with our kit, no change to anything we do, and no reason to deviate from the standard build.
The grip potential provided by
憎恶附肢
is nice, but ultimately, does not change our talent build and does not change the value of
紧绷之握
due to its unreliable nature.
Blood Death Knight Talents
Necrolord Blood Death Knight Gearing Differences
Following the trend set by previous expansions, Blood Death Knights still prefer raw item level upgrades over specific secondary stats. The addition of
憎恶附肢
, a spell which scales off Attack Power, Versatility and Critical Strike, means that haste may be devalued
ever
so slightly for this spell.
As usual, we encourage you to sim yourself, and to also consider that, for generic play, the primary budget (stamina + strength + armor) provided by item level upgrades typically outweighs "better" secondary stats.
Necrolord Blood Death Knight Soulbinds Explained
Necrolords have access, across all classes and specs, to the same three Soulbinds:
Plague Deviser Marileth
,
Emeni
and
Bonesmith Heirmir
. They are the NPCs you complete the zone story with, and allow you to "attune" yourself to them to gain access to a tree of upgrades centered around your base toolkit (through Conduits) and Covenant abilities (through special, game-wide traits).
This tree progressively unlocks based on completion steps (such as finishing the Campaign) and your Renown level with the Necrolord Covenant.
We've summarized the traits each Soulbind provides below. Refer to earlier sections in this page for the optimal traits!
Plague deviser Marileth grants you a number of impactful traits:

by granting an additional buff based on the type of corpse of the enemies you kill. It provides a baseline 120 mastery for humanoids (because you're a humanoid. Right. Right?), 2% primary stats for beasts, 5% stamina for demons, and a 5% heal for undead.
With

, every 30s, you have the option to gain a 15% absorb shield. Due to how we are prone to regularly dipping low by design, you will essentially proc this on CD without even having to think about it.
The first capstone trait,

, causes you to gain 8% max HP in total over the duration of the channel. If you manage to finish the channel, you gain CC immunity for 4 seconds, and regenerate another 8% max HP over 4 seconds.
These benefits effectively provide an always-up 120 mastery, with an additional series of buffs depending on what kind of corpses are nearby. The CC immunity is largely a dud, as very few abilities target the tanks with CC; the rest is a decent amount of benefit assuming you manage to spend 4 seconds doing nothing every 2 minutes.
With the release of 9.1, the following additional traits are available for use:

is, for all intents and purpose, a weaker form of stagger. It is nice as it is an absorb, which means that the damage gets counted twice in

windows!

, the final capstone trait, causes you to summon Kevin whenever you use
憎恶附肢
. Kevin lasts for 40 seconds, and debuffs your current target, causing it to take 2% extra damage. As you swap targets, Kevin applies more copies of this, giving you a strong incentive to melee different targets. He also heals your party for a relatively small amount each time they are hit.
Marileth is effectively the anti-CC/regen soulbind and the only soulbind with triple potency conduits, and will likely be used for Frost if you PvP. If not, he is a general-purpose soulbind, and his only weakness is the over-reliance on
血肉铸造
. With the 2-piece effect of our set, he races ahead of the other two soulbinds thanks to the 3 potencies, too!
Emeni provides a couple of interesting nodes:

, the initial trait in the tree, functions as group utility. Your party members are granted 2% primary stat, and you gain up to 15% primary stat yourself. Primary stat isn't that great, but the impact on your team is quite nice. Unlike other specializations, our Necrolord ability cooldown is
really
long, however.

allows you to gain a small amount of extra HP when casting

. It also happens to be the only non-net-loss Potency Conduit we can reach, so we'll just be using it.

while moving, which may be worthwhile in some cases to save time or keep moving while channeling.

provides stacking haste when defeating mobs. Evidently, useful in M+, less so in raids
With the release of 9.1, the following additional traits are available:

is effectively 15% of your max HP in absorb every minute. All you need to do is get over 90% health once per minute.
Emeni's capstone,
脓疮迸裂
, encourages you to use

by rewarding you for spending those missed GCDs you spent channeling it, totalling 642% AP in nature damage split between all nearby enemies. Only special direct hits trigger the effect - healing or damage. As a result, you will likely need to be healed to do so. This is
amazing
to initiate pulls in Mythic+, however, and it's a very nice way to round off this soulbind
Due to the new traits, we strongly recommend this soulbind for dungeons, outer world content and anything else involving more than one target.
Picking Bonesmith Heirmir grants access to the following notable traits:
锯齿护肩
deals a relatively large amount of shadow damage over time to attackers. However, it has a 1s ICD and overwrites itself, reducing its value by quite a bit.
海尔米尔的军械库:髓噬宝石
grants you additional crit percentage every minute. Due to how Riposte works, however, this is a purely offensive trait, and likely something you will sim.
In 9.1, two impactful traits were added to her kit:

provides a
significant
amount of mastery while hitting targets above 90%. Great on fights with adds; relatively lackluster otherwise, but the rest of her kit makes this still worth it.

provides 3% additional execute damage. Also rather uninspired, but helpful, and the rest of her kit already makes up for this weakness
Simulations should guide your choice, but in general, we'd cautiously recommend Heirmir for raid encounters.
Double Legendaries for Necrolord Blood Death Knight

Might want to update the guide to account for the recent buffs. Abomination Limb now restores 9 Bone Shield charges over 12s (equivalent of 6 runes of Marrowrend), and Bonesmith Heirmir gives a constant 3% buff to Strength and Armor.
Also worth noting is that the "delayed death" feature that Heirmir's Forgeborne Reveries offers is probably most worthwhile for tanks. One of the reasons why a tank death is so harmful is because it usually happens unexpectedly, and that it often cascades to immediate deaths of the co-tank in a raid or DPS in a M+. But with Heirmir, you'll always have a warning. So long as the group has a battle rez available, you should be able to coordinate with your group to be ready with defensives and keep things stable for the few seconds it takes for the tank to get back up and re-establish threat. I'd expect it to prevent a wipe on occasion.

"Emeni's Ambulatory Flesh allows you to cast Fleshcraft while moving, which may be worthwhile, but does limit your ability to suck up corpses with it."
This is actually NOT an issue. If you begin channeling near a pile of bodies, it seems to keep pulling from them even if you then move.

Just got Emeni’s Pustule Eruption today, and I’m quite disappointed. It only composed around 4% of my damage in a M+. Heirmir is much stronger overall, both from an offensive and defensive perspective.
