This guide provides tips and strategies for defeating the King Rastakhan encounter in Mythic Difficulty in Battle of Dazar'alor. Changes to the fight for the other difficulties are listed below in their respective sections, including tips and strategies for dealing with the new mechanics introduced in these difficulties. King Rastakhan is a four phase encounter in which the raid will have to fight against the King and his bodyguards during phase one. Once the bodyguards are defeated,

joins the fray and players must not only combat the dangerous plagues from King Rastakhan, but also the deathly shadow magics from
邦桑迪
for phase two and three. Phase four has the raid engaging King Rastakhan alone, as he unleashes devastating empowered abilities!

Mythic Difficulty
Although the King Rastakhan encounter has received multiple mechanical changes on mythic difficulty, the
general
goal and strategy remains very similar to Heroic difficulty.
A large amount of progression time is usually spent on learning how to deal with some of the modified abilities, as well as how to get through the more difficult Phase Three.
Once the raid has punched through to the fourth phase, the boss usually dies that pull, as long as everyone is healthy.
Composition Recommendations
This fight can be either four or five healed. We recommend five healing the fight if possible, as there is not much of a DPS requirement for this encounter.
If possible, it is recommended that you bring two shamans to this encounter, as they help counter the
僵尸尘图腾
during phase two as well as the
必然归宿
cast during phase three.
We also recommend that you bring at least 8 or 9 ranged DPS, as this ensures the recommended phase three strategy can be used.
Limiting the amount of melee players also helps reduce the chance that the
赤焰瘟疫
bounces around in melee.
Phase One
圣武士扎兰
and
猎头者加尔瓦纳
have had their abilities modified on Mythic.

now leaves behind a trail of fire as it chases its target.
The player needs to ensure they do not kite the beam anywhere near the raid, as this will greatly limit the space the raid has to play in.

will cast

, throwing three
重斧掷击
s in quick succession.
This dot deals substantial damage and needs to be removed by healing the targets to 90% as soon as possible.

When
蟾蜍之疫
is cast, five toads will appear from Rastakhan instead of three.
These toads are still dealt with in the same way, simply by moving away from their spawn locations and having ranged players dodge them as they cross the encounter space.
As there is 5
蟾蜍粘液毒素
puddles in melee, this severely limits the positioning options for melee players. We recommend that Rastakhan is dragged ~5 yards away from the patches to give melee players more space.
To reduce ranged movement, Death Knights with
反魔法护罩
and Rogues with
暗影斗篷
can soak all, if not the majority, of toads as they spawn.
This helps free up the encounter space whilst minimising the chance that other players will be hit by a toad.
This is, by no means, necessary and should be seen as an optional optimisation that those classes might want to do if they have the time and cooldowns available.
Add Movement and Death
As the three adds will respawn during phase three in the same locations they died during phase one, the raid wants to kill them stacked up on a single location.
The exact location in which these adds die isn't of the upmost importance, however we recommend moving the adds and boss in the way described below.
On the pull, keep all the adds where they are at the beginning of the encounter.
Maintain this position until
破城者洛卡
casts
流星飞跃
for the first time.
As the cast ends, all adds should be dragged around the pillar to the East and into the corner (as shown on the map).
This pillar blocks line of sight for the
蟾蜍之疫
that Rastakhan has just spawned, as well as moves all adds away from the
巨蛇图腾
that is due to spawn.
Once Rastakhan spawns his
巨蛇图腾
, he should also be dragged around the corner and stacked on the adds, as to allow cleave damage to be split between the adds via
灵魂链接
.
The adds then die in this corner.

This movement also sets the raid up to be already over on one side of the room, leaving the other side free for Bwonsamdi to be tanked in during phase two.
Do note: This is just an example of how the raid can do this phase. Movement and enemy positioning can be done in any way that your raid sees fit.
All adds should be dead and the phase should be over around 1 minute into the encounter.
Phase Two
The strategy regarding phase two remains largely the same, with Rastakhan being tanked on one side of the room and Bwonsamdi on the other.
That being said, there are a few mechanical changes that will force the raid to make slight adjustments to this positioning.

now has a range of 45 yards, up from 30.
This forces the raid to position slightly further away from Bwonsamdi than they did on heroic, as to ensure they do not stand within the aura at any given time.
The range of the aura also forces the tank with Bwonsamdi to position him in a specific way as to maintain range on healers whilst the healers remain outside of the 45 yard aura.
The tank should position Bwonsamdi in the far left area of the room. The tank should stand to the right of Bwonsamdi at maximum melee range.
Due to the large melee range of Bwonsamdi, the tank can be over 5 yards away from him without causing any movement from Bwonsamdi.
This will allow one or two healers to maintain range of that tank, whilst they themselves are outside of the
死亡光环
range.

Tank Swapping
There are several different ways that guilds decide to drop the
寂灭凋零
Stacks on the tanks during phase two.
This can be as simple as continuing to switch tank roles each time the
炽焰引爆
is cast, similar to how it is generally done on heroic.
The benefits of this strategy is that it is very simple to execute, however it will likely lead to the bosses moving around a fair amount which can disrupt raid positioning and applying
寂灭凋零
stacks to the raid.
Alternatively, a single tank can be responsible for tanking Bwonsamdi for nearly the phase, dropping their stacks with immunity spells (such as
圣盾术
) or by killing themselves and getting resurrected quickly afterwards.
The benefits of this strategy is that neither boss will move around very much at all during the phase, however it does require the Bwonsamdi tank to perfect the times in which they want to die.
We personally recommend using the strategy which has a single tank stay with Bwonsamdi throughout the phase. If you also wish to use this strategy, here are the main events that happen as a result of the strategy.
The tank who will not be taking Bwonsamdi throughout the phase (i.e the tank without an immunity/huge damage reduction cooldowns) should stack with Bwonsamdi and drag him into position.
Once Rastakhan casts his first
炽焰引爆
, the tanks switch roles, utilising movement abilities or warlock gateways as to minimise boss movement.
The Bwonsamdi tank then needs to deal with 3
死亡之抚
casts.
死亡之抚
1: A large damage reduction or immunity cooldown should be used to survive this damage point. The tank wants to stay alive until the next
死亡之抚
.
死亡之抚
2: The tank wants to die after the ability has hit him. Healers need to be prepared to instantly revive the tank at this point.

s are particularly good for this, as the tank can immediately take the resurrect and taunt Bwonsamdi.

3: The tank either needs to use an immunity here, which will also allow his
寂灭凋零
stacks to reset, or the tank needs to die one final time and be resurrected as soon as possible.

4 should not happen, as the phase three transition will occur before that point.

The
赤焰瘟疫
will attempt to spread after 1.3 seconds, down from 1.5 on heroic. In addition, on Mythic difficulty it can now target
Melee
players.
This gives little to no time for players to react and spread after receiving the debuff. Instead they must be prespread to ensure that the plague doesn't spread to others.
Melee players must also spread out before the ability comes in, as a stacked melee group can get completely decimated if the plague is left to bounce around endlessly between them.
僵尸尘图腾
As players mind controlled by the totem can be damaged by others, and will damage others, it is important the raid deals with them delicately.
A shamans
战栗图腾
can instantly remove the mind control effect on the players. With a rotation of two shamans with
战栗图腾
, all
僵尸尘图腾
s can be countered in this way.
Players must still kill the
僵尸尘图腾
as soon as possible, as it will mind control a new set of players after approximately 25-30 seconds.
If no shaman is available, the group should look to crowd control the mind controlled targets whilst the
僵尸尘图腾
is destroyed.
死亡之门
Positioning
The raid needs to form a little "bubble" of
死亡裂隙
s in preparation for the Death Realm players in phase three.
This "bubble" is formed with 4
死亡裂隙
s placed at the entrance of the room in a very precise pattern.
The idea behind the "bubble" is to allow all Death Realm players to remain there throughout the phase, with the "bubble" creating a barrier which automatically soaks nearly all incoming
恐惧收割
shards.
There needs to be a small gap between two of the rifts, as to allow players to enter the "bubble" without triggering
寂灭凋零
.
Before the fight begins, the raid leader should set up four world markers in the locations that the
死亡裂隙
s should be dropped during phase two (as shown in the image).

Transitioning
The raid must not damage Rastakhan down to 60% health before all four
死亡裂隙
s have been placed in the "bubble" formation.
As soon as this is done, the raid should then look to push him down and start the transition.
The raid needs to assign 10 players to be dragged into the death realm. This should consist entirely of ranged DPS (preferably ones with strong single target DPS cooldowns) and 2 healers.
The team should also have good movement speed options, as to outrun the
必然归宿
cast. This is most easily done with two shamans with
狂风图腾
.
The tank responsible for Bwonsamdi needs to move as far away from him as possible once the transition begins. This movement can be assisted with movement speed increases/warlock gateways.
Before Bwonsamdi is transferred to the Death Realm, a Monk and a Demon Hunter should deal damage to him at least once, as to apply their damage taken increasing debuffs.
Phase Three
Death Realm
As soon as the players are dragged into the Death Realm, they want to move into to the "bubble" of
死亡裂隙
s, using the small gap between two of the rifts to enter without triggering a
凋零爆裂
.
Once inside, the group should use Heroism, DPS cooldowns and second damage potions and nuke Bwonsamdi to 50% as soon as possible.

死亡裂隙
"Bubble" via the small gap between two of the zones.
During this time, they will need to reset their
寂灭凋零
stacks via the
死亡裂隙
s around them.
We recommend that one player calls out who should reset throughout the phase, as to keep the stacks low, no higher than roughly 13 stacks.
Resets should be done in small groups. We recommend grouping the Death Realm players into two groups of 3 and two groups of 2.
These groups can then be called out throughout the phase in a staggered fashion, as to make sure that the Living Realm players are not "one-shot" by 10

s occurring at once.
When the
必然归宿
cast begins, all players should run directly away from Bwonsamdi.
This pull in effect is stronger than heroic, so much so that it will move you towards him if you are not using a movement speed increase, even if you begin running straight away.
The group should only have one
必然归宿
cast during phase three, however Bwonsamdi can sometimes disrupt his spell queue and cast them within quick succession, forcing you to deal with two.
This is why we recommend sending down two shamans, as using a
狂风图腾
on both
必然归宿
casts will give the entire group enough movement speed to avoid being pulled into the
死亡裂隙
"bubble" around them.
Some additional Death Realm notes:
Bwonsamdi will sometimes not move the raid back into the Living Realm when he hits 50% health, unless somebody moves into melee range of him.
A single player should be ready to quickly move over to Bwonsamdi to counter this bizarre behaviour.
寂灭凋零
stack resetting might need to be temporarily halted if the Living Realm players are taking high damage, such as during a
炽焰引爆
.
A player upstairs may want to call out when this needs to happen, as the players in the Death Realm may not be paying close attention to the health of players not within their realm.
Living Realm
All three phantom adds in phase three have the
灌魔之灵
passive, causing them to spawn a
死亡裂隙
and enter the Death Realm upon death.
As there is no tank in the Death Realm, all three adds should be kept alive until the Death Realm players have re-entered the Living Realm.
All three adds should be crowd controlled as soon as they spawn. This crowd control needs to be maintained until the crowd control immunity kicks in one minute later.
It is around this 1 minute marker that the Death Realm players should rejoin the Living Realm, allowing all 20 players to deal with the adds, rather than just 10.
All three adds have the same abilities as they had on Heroic difficulty, and must be dealt with in the same way once they become active.
Some guilds opt to start damaging the
狂怒幻影
from the beginning of the phase, as the damage he deals is only on the tank and the
死疽碎击
cast can be simply moved out of.
This will cause the tank to take substantially more damage in this phase, however this can lead to a cleaner transition into phase four, as this high health add will already be at low hp.
This is not a mandatory strategy, just a small optimization that guilds may want to do if they are struggling to kill all of the adds as they enter phase four.
Phase Four
Once the Death Realm players have re-entered the Living Realm, all three phantom adds should be killed off as soon as possible.
Once they are dead they will enter the Death Realm, but as no players are within the realm the adds will not interact with the raid in any way past this point.
Once all adds have been defeated, the fight becomes substantially easier. The raid must now simply deal with Rastakhan's abilities as they occur.
Aside from the stronger pull in from the
必然归宿
, the increased amount of toads in the
蟾蜍之疫
, and the reduced time that the
赤焰瘟疫
takes before it spreads - the fight remains pretty much the same as heroic.
As this phase may last longer than it did on heroic difficulty, the tanks should be prepared to move Rastakhan into areas of the room that have less
死亡裂隙
s, as to allow players to dodge the ever increasing amount of
恐惧收割
shards a bit easier.

One thing you should mention is that if a player dies, all of the death-doors he placed will disappear, meaning that if for example your demonhunter put down one of your 4 death-doors for the range-bubble and he dies, there will be one missing and the strat will become unplayable as you should only get 4 death-doors before transitioning!
