Ebyssian
is one of the few black dragons still alive in Azeroth. Ebyssian's egg was purified before his birth, thanks to the efforts of Huln Highmountain wielding the Hammer of Khaz'goroth, making Ebyssian over 10,000 years in age and the oldest uncorrupted black dragon in existence.
Since his birth, Ebyssian pays gratitude to Huln Highmountain's selflessness by watching over the chieftain's descendants, taking upon the guise of
Spiritwalker Ebonhorn
, a highmountain tauren with black skin and horns. During the questline introducing the Highmountain Tauren as a playable race, it is discovered that Ebonhorn cannot leave Highmountain, as this would put the black dragon in risk of falling to corruption once more.
Ebyssian's Birth
Sometime after the War of the Ancients, the tauren hero Huln Highmountain used the Hammer of Khaz'goroth, one of the titan pillars of creation, to banish the corrupted dragon aspect Deathwing from the Broken Isles. Sometime after this, Huln and the drogbar Igrul the Scalebane came across a batch of black dragon eggs in the vault of Neltharion's Lair. Igrul mentioned that they should destroy all the eggs, but Huln instead used the powers of the Hammer of Khaz'goroth to purify one of the eggs, permanently freeing the egg from the Old God's corruption.
Sometime after, the purified egg hatched, and Huln Highmountain called the black whelp "Ebonhorn", after his tiny black horns. Ebyssian chose his own dragon name, but he has since faithfully served the Highmountain family under the guise of highmountain tauren Spiritwalker Ebonhorn. Ebonhorn served each and every one of Huln's descendants during their reign as High Chieftains, revealing his secret to them once they've ascended to High Chieftain.
Comic: A Mountain Divided
When the Burning Legion finally returned for their Third Invasion of Azeroth, Ebonhorn called for a meeting between all tauren tribes in Highmountain - the leaders being Ulan Highmountain, Jale Rivermane, Lasan Skyhorn and Torok Bloodtotem, the meeting also including the underking of the drogbar, Dargrul. In the meeting, Ebonhorn revealed that the Legion would fall at the hands of champions from outside Highmountain, empowered by the might of the Hammer of Khaz'goroth and the people of Highmountain standing together.
Ebonhorn prophesizing the adventurers coming to Highmountain and using the Hammer
of Khaz'goroth, as well as the strength of the Highmountain tribes, against the Burning Legion.
This caused distress through the chieftains, claiming that the Hammer of Khaz'goroth belonged to the people of Highmountain alone. Ulan, being the High Chieftain, claimed that they would follow the spirits, with Rivermane, Skyhorn and Bloodtotem following begrudgingly. However, Dargrul claimed he had also seen Neltharion's Vault, and saw nothing on outsiders, only the Highmountain's strength would drive back the Legion.
Without any warning, Dargrul charged forward and stole the Hammer of Khaz'goroth, using it to kill Ulan before fleeing. Disappointed at the outcome of the meeting, Ebonhorn apologized by saying he never meant for disaster to happen. Mayla Highmountain, Ulan's daughter, simply replied that disaster happened anyway.
Ebonhorn lamenting the fate of Ulan Highmountain.
Legion
Ebonhorn made his debut during the Legion expansion, being very present through Highmountain's storyline.
Highmountain
Ebonhorn is first seen at Riverbend, the home of the Rivermane Tribe. Jale Rivermane calls Ebonhorn a fool but still asks the adventurer to aid with evacuating the village, sending them to Ebonhorn (
地底之王来了
). Shortly after that, Dargrul appears and uses the Hammer of Khaz'goroth to destroy Riverbend, sending Ebonhorn to direct the adventurer towards killing the drogbar in the area. After that, they meet with Warbrave Oro, who fails to kill Dargrul and gets killed in the process (
达古尔与圣锤
). After this, Ebonhorn heads to the capital of Thunder Totem, asking the adventurer to escort Jale Rivermane there (
前往高地
).

In Thunder Totem, Mayla tells the adventurer that Ebonhorn is insisting on showing the player the ways of the Highmountain tauren to make them understand what is to come (
与灵魂同行
). Ebonhorn then guides the player through a series of visions, showing them the tale of Huln Highmountain (
胡恩传奇
). After the visions are over, Ebonhorn travels to Mayla to the Path of Huln to perform the ritual to ascent Mayla to High Chieftain.
In the Neltharion's Vault, the player, Mayla, and Ebonhorn see more visions, this time depicting Huln Highmountain using the Hammer of Khaz'goroth to banish Deathwing from Highmountain (
对抗死亡之翼
). Before entering the final vision, Ebonhorn tells Mayla that the tauren need a leader like Huln, who has the courage and strength to face anything. Ebonhorn also told Mayla that she had to witness a final vision before ascending to High Chieftain - The vision of Huln using the Hammer of Khaz'goroth to purify the black dragon egg that would eventually give birth to Ebonhorn himself (
泰坦对决
).
As the vision ends, Ebonhorn shifts into his dragon form. Mayla is in shock from the discovery but is assured by Ebyssian that he is still the same Ebonhorn that she has known since being a child (
古老的秘密
). Ebyssian then pronounced Mayla as the new High Chieftain of the Highmountain (
大酋长
).
Ebonhorn reveals himself as the black dragon Ebyssian to Mayla.
After the ritual is over, Ebonhorn is seen again in Neltharion's Lair, where he joins Navarrog in ending Dargrul's drogbar reign and reclaiming the Hammer of Khaz'goroth (
奈萨里奥的巢穴:地底之王之死
). After the Hammer is returned to Dalaran to be safeguarded by the Kirin Tor, Ebonhorn returned to Thunder Totem to continue working on family matters.
Battle for Azeroth
Ebonhorn officially takes a stand as a member of the Black Dragonflight, but not before aiding the Highmountain Tauren some more.
Highmountain Tauren Allied Race
After the success of the Argus Campaign, Mayla accepted an invitation to attend a feast with members of the Horde in Thunder Bluff (
款待同胞
). However, when Baine greeted the Horde champion and his Highmountain Tauren guests, Ebonhorn was tormented by the whispers of the C'Thrax Uul'gyneth, a servant of the Old Gods (
黑暗之力
). Ebonhorn and Mayla were forced to return to Thunder Totem while the Horde dealt with Uul'gyneth's invasion in Thunder Bluff. Ebonhorn leaving Highmountain meant the wards that he kept there were weakened, allowing the darkness to seep through once more to Highmountain (
胡恩的高岭
).

Sometime after, Baine Bloodhoof and the Horde player returned to Thunder Totem to help heal Ebonhorn, who was struggling to keep the darkness from consuming his soul (
黑角怎么样了?
). Mayla sent the champion to Spiritwalker Greysky, who has the Horde champion go through a ritual to walk in the memories of both Huln Highmountain, Igrul the Scalebane and Oenia Skyhorn to help restore the wards that protect Highmountain from corruupting forces (
亡黯的诅咒
). After the wards were re-established, Ebonhorn woke up and revealed that Uul'gyneth wanted to return and conquer Highmountain.
After this, Baine Bloodhoof, Mayla, Ebonhorn and the Horde player joined Lasan Skyhorn, Aviash and Jale Rivermane at Highmountain Summit to restore the final ward (
最后的结界
). However, their efforts fail, and Uul'gyneth is revived into the physical realm, forcing the Horde player to kill the C'Thrax in the darkness (
黑暗之兽
). After Uul'gyneth is defeated, Ebonhorn revealed his draconic form to Baine Bloodhoof, who promised to keep it a secret. As a result of these events, the Highmountain Tauren pledged their allegiance to the Horde (
团结是部落的力量!
).
Tides of Vengeance
At the request of Baine, Ebonhorn participated in a seance together with Princess Talanji and Master Gadrin to call on the spirit of the late Warchief Vol'jin (
). When Baine asked Vol'jin who told him to make Sylvanas the new Warchief, spirits of the dead attacked in an attempt to stop the question. Later on, Ebonhorn returns to the Broken Isles with Baine, the place where Vol'jin was mortally wounded, to call on Vol'jin's spirit and hopefully solve the mystery (
前往破碎海滩
).
Rise of Azshara
After MOTHER is brought to the Chamber of Heart and calculates Azeroth's situation, she mentions that Magni needs to gather forces from all Dragonflights to help heal the world, and first sent players out to Highmountain, where Ebonhorn and Navarrog are investigating a disturbance in Neltharion's Lair (
地下的骚动
). Entering the lair, Ebonhorn helps the player soothe the Azerite elementals going crazy in the area, and after proving their strength to the earth elemental reigning the area, they claim the essence of the black dragonflight and return it to the Chamber of Heart (
事无绝对
).
Ebonhorn then introduces himself to MOTHER and Magni Bronzebeard as one of the few uncorrupted black dragons alive. Magni is relieved that an uncorrupted black dragon is aiding in his mission to heal Azeroth, and warmly welcomes Ebonhorn to the Chamber of Heart, where the essence of the Black Dragonflight is used to activate the Heart Forge, forge used to empower the Heart of Azeroth (
友善面容
).
Ebonhorn stands in the Chamber of Heart as the Black Dragonflight representative.
Patch 8.2.5
Magni summons players to the Chamber of Heart once more - Ebonhorn is in danger of falling to the whispers of the Old Gods once more, with MOTHER threatening to sanitize the black dragon. Magni manages to stop MOTHER from killing Blackhorn, and the blue dragon Kalecgos sends players on a quest to locate another black dragon,
Wrathion
. Wrathion has studied the Old Gods before, and would likely be able to help the adventurer save Ebonhorn.
Ebonhorn is quarantined and almost sanitized by MOTHER.
Although Wrathion is still missing by the end of the short questline, the young black dragon knew Ebonhorn's situation - In the Karazhan Catacombs, he left behind a potion and a note, the note saying that he knew Ebonhorn was falling to corruption and the potion would clear Ebonhorn's mind of the Old Gods' influence. It seems like Wrathion found a way to cleanse Old God corruption. After drinking the potion, Ebonhorn's mind is cleaned up.
Visions of N'Zoth
With 8.3 and the return of Wrathion, Ebonhorn starts to meet other dragons for the first time as a member of the black dragonflight.
In the Chamber of Heart, the two black dragons discuss the rise of the Black Empire and the future of Azeroth together with the dragon aspects Alexstrasza, Merithra and Kalecgos:
Alexstrasza the Life-Binder: N'Zoth's minions are rising across Azeroth. The red dragonflight's numbers are too few to fight them at every turn.
Merithra of the Dream: The green dragonflight would aid your cause, but the Void continues to besiege the Dream.
Kalecgos: Senegos has informed me that the blue dragonflight is occupied with safeguarding the Nexus.
Ebonhorn: A pity the black dragonflight cannot join the fray and fulfill our ancient charge to protect Azeroth.
Wrathion: That is why we are here, Ebyssian. Our brothers and sisters are gone, so we must carry on the fight in their stead.
Kalecgos: I am relieved that the Horde and Alliance have focused their ire toward N'Zoth... and away from each other.
Alexstrasza the Life-Binder: Agreed. Each time they have waged war, the world has paid the price.
Merithra of the Dream: Then why did we not intervene and bring an end to their conflict before so many lives were lost?
Alexstrasza the Life-Binder: It is not our place to impose our will upon the mortal races. To do so would make us tyrants.
Wrathion: There is a difference between issuing edicts and offering guidance. What say you, Ebyssian?
Ebonhorn: Far be it from me to contradict the Dragonqueen. But I do believe that as I walked among them in mortal form, the Highmountain have benefited from my counsel.
Alexstrasza the Life-Binder: Perhaps. But be wary, lest you find yourselves following the path of "Victor Nefarius" and "Katrana Prestor".
Ebonhorn: Never, Life-Binder. I swear it.
During 8.3’s PTR, it has been rumored that Ebonhorn will be part of the scenario inside Blackwing Descent; however,
we know now that only Wrathion will accompany the player in this adventure
.
