Welcome to Wowhead's DPS Hunter Talents Classic Guide, updated for WoW Classic! In this guide, we will cover every Hunter Talent in their talent tree, how useful it is in both PvE and PvP situations, as well as covering the best Hunter talent builds and best Hunter specs in both PvE and PvP environments.
In WoW Classic, Hunters must visit a

in order to change their talent tree selections. This process has a cost attached to it, which starts as a small fee but increases every time you perform it, up to a cap of . This cost is reduced by per month, to a minimum of .

Hunters are only capable of dealing damage, which means that each spec (Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, Survival) has a unique way of augmenting the Hunter's Abilities or pets' and altering the method by which the Hunter deals damage.
WoW Classic PvE Talent Builds for Hunters
MM/SV 2/31/18 Hunter Talent Build
This is a great spec early and will also work to later game with some changes. As it is harder to get to the 9% hit cap you can take advantage of
稳固
, this spec also provides your party with
强击光环
making you buff
战士
and
潜行者
. This is a good overall damage increase for the group. I use a
狼
with this build for
狂怒之嚎
, you can keep your pet on passive this way, and it still has use without risk of dying.
You also get
威慑
, which is useful for surviving specific mechanics and situations. Some mechanics will even require you to tank a hit or two and dodging or parrying these will significantly increase your chance or living. Overall this spec provides good DPS for you, as well as a buff to your group and improves survival through increased stamina and a defensive cooldown.
Once you can reach 9% hit cap through gear, you can swap your
稳固
into
强化雄鹰守护
, making it 5/5. Or into
强化猎人印记
making that 5/5 instead. One hunter will have the duty to get
强化猎人印记
5/5 so that the rest of the
猎人
s are buffed.
Lastly, it is also worth noting that you can move the 2 points from

into

诱捕
which is honestly minor and won't affect your DPS but could provide some RNG CC versus the RNG survival chance if something hits you and you manage to parry it.
BM/MM 20/31/0 Hunter Talent Build
This spec is excellent and theoretically higher damage than the MM/SV spec but provided your pet can constantly DPS, but unfortunately, you will not be able to keep your pet on the boss at all times. Sometimes your pet is required to be on passive to avoid interfering with mechanics or to not die. Pets will take a lot of damage in Classic and often it's hard to move them at the right time while maintaining good damage yourself. If you can, however, keep your pet alive, this is the strongest spec for the first few phases in the game for overall damage, and you still get

for your party. I usually use a
风蛇
with this build as it will provide more raw damage than a
狼
.
If you find your pet is still dying a little bit even with
耐久训练
5/5 you can take 2 points out of it and put them into

which will help you greatly with downtime and mana. I would also advise making sure your pet has fire resistance in its talents.
Survival Lightning Reflexes 0/21/30 Hunter Talent Build
This spec is overall the worst spec to bring to a raid as you and your party miss out on
强击光环
and the talents themselves make you lose out on some damage. Unless you are geared in Naxxramas gear to take the full effect of

this spec isn't worth playing, and even at that point you are gaining personal DPS, but the overall damage of the group will be lower due to not having
强击光环
. Meaning the raid will take longer at the expense of your DPS looking better. This spec can be fun, doing high numbers and beating classes you generally wouldn't but like I said, it is for late game, and you might be frowned upon for playing it.
There are a few talents you can swap out here in this spec like

which you can get from by putting your points from

, and you would be last MM/BM talent into. This can come in handy as

WoW Classic PvP Talent Builds for Hunters
Lightning Reflexes/Scatter Shot 0/21/30 Hunter Talent Build
This spec is solid in PvP. More towards the late stages of the game but even early on it can prove to be quite powerful. The thing is that

only gets better the more agility you can stack. These talents provide some good CC, survival, and damage. With

you will be able to snare and kite melee more easily.

provides you with a strong defensive against melee with a cooldown that is reasonable for Classic standards. You will also get

which as the name implies, is just an overall survival buff.
As for the MM points, you will be fortunate enough to get some good damage, some CC and the extremely important

. This spec is meant for high burst damage from you and with aimed shot it will make that possible, also having
驱散射击
allows you to get off good traps making it easier to kite and get your damage off. Lastly, you even have that slight bit of extra RNG CC with

Intimidation/Scatter Shot 22/24/5 Hunter Talent Build
This build is a little less gear dependent but more reliant on your pet. If your pet is dead or can't get on the target, you will severely lack damage. But with proper pet management, this spec shines, especially in the first few phases. You will be able to kite well with

,

and

all while your pet and you do a good amount of damage. With most of the MM DPS talents available to this spec, you should still see good

s as well as strong

s.
This spec is a bit less bursty than the survival one but has a lot more consistent throughput and a stun. You can rely on your pet a lot more in this spec too, and in most situations, it is more forgiving to play.
WoW Classic Overview of Talents for Hunters
Beast Mastery Tree Talents
强化雄鹰守护
Improved Aspect of the Hawk 5/5 will increase your attack speed by 30% for 12 seconds. This has a 5% chance to happen per shot, on average 1 every 20 shots. Making this talent very strong as it is a flat out DPS increase. Most PvE Hunter specs will take this, even if just a few points, as it is a strong talent that is on the first row.
耐久训练
Endurance training increases your pet's health by 3% per point, at 5/5 that is 15%. If you are going into the BM spec usually you will pick this talent up as it is strong compared to any of the other talents you can get. It means more health for your pet so more chance of it surviving and you save time not having to revive it as much. If you think you are still struggling to keep your pet alive consider taking 2 points from this talent and place them into
强化复活宠物
.

Improved Eyes of the Beast is a talent that allows you to control your pet for an extra minute with

. As

is not used in PvE apart from pet management in such as; controlling your pet off an edge with the group so that it doesn't run around the entire instance and pull everything. It is also used in PvP to scout or potentially annoy people from afar. But apart from that the spell isn't useful to have up for longer than the base 1 minute anyway so spending 2 points just to get an extra minute on it is pointless. Don't get this talent.

Improved Aspect of the Monkey 5/5 gives your
灵猴守护
an added bonus of 5% chance to dodge, increasing the total to 13%. This talent isn't useful for PvE as you will be in Aspect of the Hawk but it can be useful in PvP for specs that want to go deeper into BM. If you can manage to keep your pet alive in PvP you could opt for this talent as it will help a lot with melee, having high agility and then using
灵猴守护
can get your dodge chance close to 30%. Verses a
战士
with a slow weapon, this could be a huge game changer for you.
厚皮
Thick Hide 3/3 will provide your pets with 30% increased armor rating. While this is quite useful for your pet's survival, it is more beneficial to use talents like
耐久训练
or
强化复活宠物
to buff your pet's defenses overall as the armor provided will have no effect verses any magical damage. While the increased health or even the faster revive with reduced mana cost will be effective in more situations.

Improved Revive Pet is a strong talent to take if you find that your finding it hard to keep your pet alive even with defensive talents. With 2/2 it will reduce the cast time of your
复活宠物
ability and lower the mana cost by 40%. Your pet will also have 30% more HP when revived meaning it will be easier to top back up overall costing you far less mana and time. You don't need this if your pet isn't dying often and can put the 2 points into
耐久训练
.

Pathfinding increases your run speed by 6% while in
猎豹守护
giving you a total increased run speed of 36%. This can be very useful while leveling from 30-40 as you will not have a mount and this will make you much quicker than most other classes at getting around. Though after 40 this talent become virtually useless so if you are trying not to re-spec at 40 I would advise avoiding this talent for leveling and avoid it altogether after that.
野兽迅捷
Beastial Swiftness increased your pets movement speed by 30% while outdoors. Meaning this talent does not work inside most PvE instances. It is usually used for leveling, allowing you to pull mobs faster with your pet but generally is skipped for other specs as other talent points provide more raw output or better utility. It does not stack with your pet's
突进
ability either making this talent fairly lackluster.
狂怒释放
Unleashed Fury 5/5 increases your pets' damage by 20%. This is a strong talent to have if you are going to this point in the BM talents you will definitely take this point. It is a flat damage increase and is good for all aspects of the game.

Improved Mend Pet 2/2 gives the
治疗宠物
spell a 50% chance of cleansing 1 Curse, Disease, Magic or Poison effect from the pet each tick. Some BM players will take this talent, especially while leveling just to remove long debuffs as some can last for up to 30 minutes in Classic. You only need one point in it if you choose to do so, opting to put 1 less point in
狂乱
to do so.
凶暴
Ferocity 5/5 increases the critical strike chance of your pets by 15%. If you are playing MM/BM or any sort of BM spec you will want this talent as it is a strong DPS increase that also is a prerequisite to
狂乱
if you happen to be playing deep BM.

Spirit Bond 2/2 makes it so while your pet is active, you and your pet will regenerate 2% of total health every 10 sec. While it isn't amazing it can provide some good sustain for you and your pet giving you more up time while leveling. There are a fair few talents that are interchangeable, mainly effecting utility in the BM tree if you are just choosing to advance to
狂野怒火
, this is one of those talents.

Intimidation is a spell that commands your pet to intimidate the target on the next successful melee attack, causing a high amount of threat and stunning the target for 3 sec. This is useful for PvP and leveling. Some of the PvP specs that go deep into BM will stop at this talent so they can still get
驱散射击
from the MM tree.

Beastial discipline increases the Focus regeneration of your pets by 20%. This is a slight DPS increase and should only be taken if you are going for
狂野怒火
in your spec.
狂乱
Frenzy gives your pet a 100% chance to gain a 30% attack speed increase for 8 sec after dealing a critical strike. These should be the last points you are spending in your talents for BM if you are going for
狂野怒火
. You will primarily do this for leveling specs.
狂野怒火
Beastial Wrath sends your pet into a rage causing 50% additional damage for 18 sec. While enraged, the beast does not feel pity or remorse or fear and it cannot be stopped unless killed. This talent will cause your pet to turn red and do more damage, it will be unaffected by, sleep, fear and incapacitate effects. You won't have this talent unless you are leveling most likely but it is strong for that purpose be it during PvE or PvP.
Marksmanship Tree Talents
强化震荡射击
Improved Concussive Shot gives your Concussive Shot a 20% chance to stun the target for 3 sec. This talent is strong in PvP as on an average 1/5

s will trigget a 3 second stun on your enemy allowing you to gain distance on them or cast an
瞄准射击
.
效率
Efficiency reduces the Mana cost of your Shots and Stings by 10%. This is a good mana sustain talent that most DPS builds will take. Generally you won't use

in raids but you will be using a lot of
瞄准射击
so this talent will come in handy. Out in the world you will use
毒蛇钉刺
too so it is good for that too.
强化猎人印记
Improved Hunter's Mark increases the Ranged Attack Power bonus of your Hunter's Mark spell by 15%. At least one
猎人
in your group should take 5/5 in this talent. I would advise talking to hunters in your guild and sorting out who is best to put all the points into it or you can just do so yourself. Otherwise you will most likely just take 2/5 just for general use and to get to your next row of talents.
夺命射击
Lethal Shots increases your critical strike chance with ranged weapons by 5%. This is a nice simple DPS increase. It is also a prerequisite to
致死射击
which DPS hunters will also take. This talent is good for PvE and PvP
瞄准射击
Aimed Shot is a 3 second cast spell with a 6 second cool down. This is your hardest hitting ability and you will generally use this on cool down as much as you can to maximize DPS. You will take this talent for almost every hunter spec you will ever play.
强化奥术射击
Improved Arcane Shot reduces the cooldown of your Arcane Shot by 1 sec. Simple, and some may assume a good talent to invest into but it isn't. In Classic your
瞄准射击
and
奥术射击
share a cool down. Also your
奥术射击
scales off spell power as it does arcane damage, meaning its damage is incomparable to
瞄准射击
which is physical damage and scales off your attack power. This talent is not worth taking.
鹰眼
Hawk Eye increases the range of your ranged weapons by 6 yards. This is a good talent for both PvE and PvP, for a
猎人
the further away you are from an enemy, the more damage you can deal and there is more room for error or counter play. A lot of fights require movement or potentially some sort of spreading out, with this talent you make it easier for you and your group by not being as confined to the boss and it almost goes without saying that in PvP the further away you are from enemies the better off you are, especially with dead zones.

Improved Serpent Sting Increases the damage done by your Serpent Sting by 10%. While in hindsight like some other
猎人
talents this may sound good, unfortunately it isn't. Hunters generally can't use
毒蛇钉刺
in a raid environment as there are only 16 slots available for debuffs in Classic, other debuffs are more important to have applied to increase group DPS such as your
猎人印记
or
战士
's
破甲攻击
. The list goes on and unfortunately
毒蛇钉刺
doesn't make it, making this talent completely useless in a raid environment. As for PvP, it's sub par, you will see more benefits from your other talents unless you're playing a non meta spec.
致死射击
Mortal Shots Increases your ranged weapon critical strike damage bonus by 30%. This is a no brainer. This turns your crits from 100% bonus damage to 130% which is strong damage increase for PvE and PvP, every deep MM spec will take this talent.
驱散射击
Scatter Shot is A short-range (15 Yards) shot that deals 50% weapon damage and disorients the target for 4 sec. Any damage caused will remove the effect. Turns off your attack when used. This isn't an essential talent for PvE but can be handy on some fights or out in the world. You can swap it into
强化猎人印记
if you want. For PvP
驱散射击
is a must, you will need it to peel for yourself and to place traps properly. You will need this if you wish to excel in PvP.
弹幕
Barrage increases the damage done by your Multi-Shot and Volley spells by 15%. This is a good talent to take for damage increase, the most favorable PvP specs don't use this usually. But for PvE it is a flat damage increase for your single and multi target DPS as

is a part of your regular rotation.
强化毒蝎钉刺
Improved Scorpid Sting reduces the Stamina of targets affected by your Scorpid Sting by 30% of the amount of Strength reduced. This is a bad talent for PvP and PvE. You won't be using
毒蝎钉刺
on bosses and it doesn't affect most players, making it a very situational spell. Talents points are just better off spent elsewhere.
远程武器专精
Ranged Weapon Specialization increases the damage you deal with ranged weapons by 5%. This is a flat 5% damage increase to your ranged attacks. Without question this will be in your PvE build. For a strict PvP spec you probably won't be this deep into MM but is worth taking if you are.

True Shot Aura is a buff that increases the attack power of party members within 45 yards by 50 and lasts 30 minutes. For almost every PvE spec this is mandatory as it will buff your
战士
s and
潜行者
s in your party, increasing the overall DPS of the raid. In PvP it can be useful but as I have stated before in previous talents you probably won't be this deep into MM if you are PvP as there are other talent choices that are more favorable.
Survival Tree Talents
怪物杀手
Monster Slaying increases all damage caused against Beasts, Giants and Dragonkin targets by 3% and increases critical damage caused against Beasts, Giants and Dragonkin targets by an additional 3%. This is a good talent to take in PvE mostly because it will get you the most DPS versus the other talents around it. Some bosses and trash may be Beasts, Giants and Dragonkin, especially in BWL. Although you don't always get usage out of it, the usage that it gets outweighs the talents you that are otherwise available. If you are certain you won't be facing many mobs or bosses of these types, such as in Naxx raiding, you can opt to put these talents into something that
may
come in handy like 3/5

Humanoid Slaying increases all damage caused against Humanoid targets by 3% and increases critical damage caused against Humanoid targets by an additional 3%. Much like

but a lot more useful. You will find a lot more humanoids in raids than the 3 of the types in Monster Slaying. This talent is generally skipped in PvP, instead of taking 5/5

Deflection increases your Parry chance by 5%. This is a decent talent generally just used to fill talent points to get into later rows. You will most likely take a few points in this if not all, depending on how you want to build. For PvP, this talent is strong as you will already have a good dodge chance, and then you have more parry on top of that allowing you to kite melee and avoid damage from them much better.

Entrapment gives your Immolation Trap, Frost Trap, and Explosive Trap a 25% chance to entrap the target, preventing them from moving for 5 sec. This talent is generally not seen as a must-have for any spec; you may use it as a stepping stone onto further talent rows. It comes down to how you would like to spend your points in the first two rows as a lot of them increase utility or survival chances and don't affect DPS.

Entrapment gives your Immolation Trap, Frost Trap, and Explosive Trap a 25% chance to entrap the target, preventing them from moving for 5 sec. This talent is generally not seen as a must-have for any spec; you may use it as a stepping stone onto further talent rows. It comes down to how you would like to spend your points in the first two rows as a lot of them increase utility or survival chances and don't affect DPS. I don't take this for my PvE or PvP specs, which will be explained further in the talent build section.

Savage Strikes increases the critical strike chance of Raptor Strike and Mongoose Bite by 20%. This talent isn't amazing, but it will help DPS slightly, compared to the other talents around it. Meaning that if you are going to advance in survival, you will take this. It can be useful for some fights where you are forced to use melee and in PvP it can be pretty nice if you are snared or can't get away from a player.

Improved Wing Clip gives your Wing Clip ability a 20% chance to immobilize the target for 5 seconds. This is another one of those talents that for PvE is a personal choice between a select few of the talents in the first couple of rows. I choose this as
摔绊
is spam-able, and you can pretty much force it to proc the immobilize after a few uses if, for some reason, something needs to be CC'd. This is the same reason I would pick it in PvP over
诱捕
. Not only are traps not usable in combat, but they also have a cooldown making it harder to take advantage of that talent, and you will most likely be using
冰冻陷阱
anyway.

Clever Traps increases the duration of Freezing and Frost trap effects by 30% and the damage of Immolation and Explosive trap effects by 30%. Again, as spoken about traps just above, you won't be laying traps down that often, and for both PvE and PvP, there are better choices for your talents at this point.
生存专家
Survivalist increases total health by 10%. Simple, not much explaining needed here. Increases your chance to survive, solid talent choice for this row. Some specs will only get 4/5 to reach talents in other trees which is still good.
威慑
Deterrence when activated, increases your Dodge and Parry chance by 25% for 10 sec. A strong defensive cooldown for both PvE and PvP. Kiting mobs around is sometimes a
猎人
's duty in Classic WoW, and sometimes things don't always go according to plan. Whether it's, you or someone in your group, messing things up having this as a back up has saved my skin countless times. Also very strong in PvP, especially if you are stuck in melee as it opens up for
猫鼬撕咬
and
反击
.

Trap Mastery decreases the chance enemies will resist trap effects by 10%. This is another one that doesn't need much explaining. It's not that good, and your talent points will be better off spending in other areas.
稳固
Surefooted increases hit chance by 3% and increases the chance movement impairing effects will be resisted by an additional 15%. This talent is outstanding, especially earlier on when you won't have as much hit% gear. As a raider and PvPer, you will want this talent if you can't get to hit cap. You may switch it out as the game goes on into potentially finishing 5/5

. As for PvP, you may keep this talent forever depending on which spec you play and what gear you can obtain.

Improved Feign Death reduces the chance your Feign Death ability will be resisted by 4%. You might get this talent late in the game with a lot of gear if you are running the Lightning Reflexes spec, as you will pull a lot of solo DPS increasing your potential aggro and need to drop it using
假死
. But
假死
won't be resisted too often and enemy players won't resist it, making it pretty lackluster overall.
杀戮本能
Killer Instinct increases your critical strike chance with all attacks by 3%. If you are this deep into the survival tree, you will most likely be running a PvP spec though there is a viable survival PvE spec, though it is often frowned upon. If however, you are playing this deep in survival, this is a key talent to have.
反击
Counterattack is a strike that becomes active after parrying an opponent's attack. This attack deals 40 damage and immobilizes the target for 5 sec. Counterattack cannot be blocked, dodged, or parried. This talent doesn't mean much for PvE, but if you are playing into
闪电反射
you will most likely take it just because the other talents to bring you up to Lightning Reflexes don't do much, and this can be used outdoors and in PvP. It is quite strong against melee in PvP as it will snare them for 5 seconds allowing you to get range on them.
闪电反射
Lightning Reflexes increases your Agility by 15%. This means the more agility you have, the more this talent will grant you. This talent is one of the strongest personal talents a
猎人
has but unfortunately, most of the talents before it provides little to nothing for DPS and not much utility or any buffs for the group. You have to have a lot of agility to make this talent worthwhile taking, and even at that point, you cost a group of
战士
and
潜行者
a
强击光环
buff. This talent is mainly going to be for PvP specs, but you might use it at some point if you can reach the appropriate gear levels to make it worthwhile.
翼龙钉刺
Wyvern Sting is a stinging shot that puts the target to sleep for 12 sec. Any damage will cancel the effect. When the target wakes up, the Sting causes 300 Nature damage over 12 seconds. Only usable out of combat. Only one Sting per Hunter can be active on the target at a time. This spell is useless for PvE and bad for PvP. With a 2 minute cooldown and only being usable in combat this spell is weak. It's also affected by the dead zone! So if someone is on top of you, you can't just feign death and cast it, unlike a trap. This ability is a waste of a talent point unless you are just using it for fun.
WoW Classic Leveling Talents
Beast Mastery is going to be your best talent option for leveling, world pvp, and even early end-game content as you don't need to rely on gear upgrades to increase your damage. Your pet will be dealing most of your damage and as you get deeper into the Beast Mastery Talent Tree, your pet will be able to even solo enemy players and will easily dispatch with enemy mobs.

: Each point of this talent only increases the chance for your pet to gain the proc, but the amount of attack speed that you gain is a constant 30%, because of this you don't necessarily need 5/5 in this talent. If you're using a pet such as
断牙
, which has a 1.0 attack speed, you will probably only need 4 points in Frenzy to have full uptime on the buff. On the other hand, if you're pet has a slower attack speed (something closer to 2.0), you might want to use the full 5 points to make sure your pet has the buff.

: This talent can be good in certain situations and although I don't personally like to use it if you find your pet being debuffed constantly you can invest a point here. Once again, this talent comes down to preference, and it's up to you to decide if it fits your playstyle.

vs.

: When you reach the Marksmanship talent tree you will start with 5 points in one of these talents, and it depends where you are in comparison to other players. If you are far ahead of everyone else and won't be pvping, then you should take
效率
to increase your mana...efficiency. If you're surrounded by other players and are likely to get into a pvp scenario, you should take

for the 20% chance to stun.

The talents Monster Slaying and Humanoid Slayng (SV) influence pet damage?

just hit 60 yesterday, using a 31/20/0 build, mostly questing.
I intend to raid, and dungeon, but of course, want to still be viable for continued questing and farming.
will the MM/SV 2/31/18 build still be decent enough, all around, or is that too specialized for raid / dungeon content?

It's disappointing that this has clearly just been renamed from Classic for Seasons of Mastery, without consideration for specific SoM changes.
E.g.
Hunters generally can't use Serpent Sting in a raid environment as there are only 16 slots available for debuffs in Classic, other debuffs are more important
The above is no longer true.
Yes Improved Serpent Sting is still unfavourable.
But this is because it has narrow benefit and loses out to other more impactful talents - not because of limited debuff slots.
