Hey folks
My name is Irishcookie, I'm an EU alliance player who has been running a guild for nearly 4 years(mostly social but does run progression raids and RBGs). I'm writing this guide as I have gone over the internet many times trying to find ideas for social events to run during the relaxing times in the guild and have most times found nothing or at the least an idea that is either for PvP realms or for Horde players. So here is a list of ideas both mine and from others, for social events. If you have any other events ideas please add them and I will up date the list.
P.S. As this is the first guide I have ever tried to write please bear with me as there will be a lot of updates to the guide till I get it right.
Reasons why every guild should run social events
:
These days in World of Warcraft there seems to be more focus on raids or pvp and it seems the whole social side has been pushed to the side, with some guilds of the large scale been ghost towns in the /g chat. I have found that running social events often can help gel a guild together and make them more of a group of friends rather than raiding buddies. Once people look at each as friends rather than someone they play an online game with, they start playing better in raids or pvp and have a more friendly approach to helping others in your guild. For these reasons alone there should always be social events going on in a guild.
List of Event Ideas
:
Catch Me If You Can:
This is single or team event where members/teams must solve a series of clues to find an NPC. Once the member/team finds the NPC they must whisper the event leader with the name of the NPC. If they have found the right NPC the event leader will whisper another set of clues and this can continue as long as you want. Here is an example of one of the clues.
In Borean Tundra there is a keep,
Where a bow & gun do compete,
This duo is a little and large,
This beared fellow will help you take charge.
The answer is
赫迦尔·钢须
First line gives the area - Valiance Keep
Second line is in relation to the bow and gun range inside the walls
Third line is for the Night Elf and Dwarf - One firing a gun and one a bow
And the last line is reference to the word beard in his name.
Battle of the minds:
This is a small scale event taking part in one location and which will call on members short term memory. It's a simple questions and answers event.
This takes place in Nesingwary Camp in Sholazar, specifically the area surrounded by tents in front of Nesingwary himself.
The Questions:
1) How many beds were in the inn tent? 3
2) What is the pet alligator’s name?
嘎嘎
3) What race is the toon with the apple on his head? Gnome
4) Korg’s cleaver is in what- a fruit or a veggie? fruit
5) What does the stable master sell? rope pet leash
In the event of a tie score here is the tie question.
Tie question - how many bottles were stuck in the ground? 5
Tonk Wars:
An easy run event but has some mats needing farming. Tonk Wars is where members fight each other using
蒸汽车控制器
Last member standing wins. There are some very good areas you can do this, but some of the better areas for this would require some sort of cover to make things last that bit longer.
LvL 1 Race:
We all know this one but for any of those who don't its simple. Roll a lvl 1 alt and race from one point to another through a few zones of a higher lvl.
Transmog Event:
Bring out your best treads, meet in a friendly area where you wont be attack mobs or members of the opposite faction(if in PvP realms) and have someone judge your set.
Shopping List:
Each person taking part will be given a list of items they must hurry around and collect from stores or NPCs in a city or over a larger area. First one to compete the list and trade the items to event leader is the winner. REMEMBER for this event you must give people taking part gold from the guild bank so they are not been forced to spend there own gold to take part in a fun guild event.
Hunting Party:
This event will have your members hunting down a player(must be someone only you know and have the battletag for to stop cheating). You can give out clues to the bounties last known location or what they are wearing or where they might be headed for. A great twist to this event for larger guilds is to have a whole host of none guild players helping. Each one will give a clue about the bounty but will also give you two players location to go to for the next clue. One will give you a very good clue about the bounty the other a not do good clue but you wont know till you decide which to vist. You can vist both to try and help you track down the bounty but this would largely increase your overall time.
Darts:
Darts is an event known by many names, The Long Drop, Thread The Needle, Death Fall, We're All Gonna Die. But it's all the same thing. You jump off a ledge and try to land on a maker dying from your fall. That's easy I hear you say. The amount of people who jump with slow fall or with gear still on or other stuff will always happen the first time you run this event. The event leader is always best to be a healer so you can rez all the dead. Apart from that that leader just needs to put down a world maker for people to try and hit.
PBL or Pet Battle League:
This is just a league for your guild pet lovers, that can take part over a day, a weekend or event a few months depending on how much time people can give. All you need to do to set up the league is pair people off to pet battle each other, each week. Members taking part must have at least 3 lvl 25 pets to compete in this. Usually a best of 3 rounds game suits this type of league so the games don't go on too long. A good and easy way to decided who fights who is to get everyone to do a /roll and the highest roll fights the lowest, second highest fights the second lowest and so on. You can decide if you want everyone to fight just a few fights all random opponents or if you want someone to fight every other person that signed up for the event, once or twice, Be warned that the second option can take weeks of one or two games a week.
Noggenfogger:
Noggenfogger is a bit like Dart with one difference. If you die your out. Noggenfogger is an event that gets its name from
诺格弗格药剂
. The event is based around the three random buffs this elixir gives you, one allows you to breath underwater, one shrinks you and the last gives you a slow fall buff. So the idea is for everyone to run and jump off a high ledge and drink the
诺格弗格药剂
hoping to get the slow fall buff. If you get the right buff you wont die on impact and move onto the next round. This event is more for larger groups to do as the buff is random, you could have 10 people jump and none of them getting the slow fall buff resulting in the event having to be restarted.
Guilds Best Escort:
This event is all about escorting a Lvl 1 character/package(not competing for prize) through a certain zone/route with a group made up of 2-4 higher lvl characters. Each group takes turns escorting the lvl 1/package and the team that gets them there the fastest wins. There must be a judge flying overhead to make sure there is no grave hopping. For best results try not let the lvl gap between the package and the escort group be more than 50. Also the highest person on the group sets the zone you run it through e.g. If the highest escort person in each group is lvl 30 then you run the package through a lvl 30 zone. Groups can take different routes as long as the starting and finishing point are the same.
Gem Tag:
Gem Tag is like laser tag but using gems, how do you tag someone with a gem I hear you ask, well with a
暗影水晶聚焦射线
, there are a few different types. So each team is given a set of these with their colours. When you get tagged your out, last person not tagged is out. You do need a few judges for this as there will be a lot of I tagged him/her before they tagged me. A macro with some type of saying like "I tagged you" could be used with the lens to help judging who tagged who first.
Guild Survivor:
This is a large scale event which is just made up of loads of small events. Our guild runs it once a year to mark the guilds birthday. All events are ran over two days, with each event awarding points. Person with the most points at the end wins.
Pros, cons and whats needed:
Event

Can be as long or short as you wish.
Might not last that long.
Nothing if you use the one I have given.

People taking it too serious.
The gems for each team and a few judges to over see the rounds.
Guild Survivor
An event where all the guild can take part and be proud of.
The most organisation you will ever see.
Needs a damn good prize for the winner.
Places to hold events:
There are so many great places to hold guild events, from vast wide open plains to dark dirty sewers, something for everyone I guess. But here is a short list of places I have ran events of all types.
格雷迈恩庄园
is one of my favourites places so dark and gloomy and the perfect spot events that doesn't require people to go anywhere e.g. Pet Battles, Duels, Tonk Wars plus many more. One of the best things about here is no one ever goes there and I mean no one.
The area where
is located in Tirisfal Glades is a magical spot for events where you can also get treated to a little magic show if you time it right.
The location where
美酒节
is held is deadly location to hold large scale Pet Battles but can of course be used for other events.
For Lvl 1 Races the entrance to the Gnome starting area is a good point to start making your death filled journey all the way to Booty Bay. And I do mean it when I say death filled. One of the harder routes to run.
Before anyone makes any comments yes I know these are nearly all Alliance places but as I'm an Alliance player it is all I can comment on. If people want me to add locations for horde players please do tell me them and I will add them.
Acknowledgements:
A thank you to the following people for help on this guide with its formatting or for some event ideas.
Asakawa,
Too Drunk To Fight(guild),
Beso,
Chatmay.
Thank you to all the above.
Summery:
I'm sure some people will disagree with on whether or not social events are needed in a guild as the whole logging into play the game can be classed as a social act. But I think they are, a guild who laughs together will stay together through anything. Can there be more social stuff in the game? Yes there can. Is Blizzard going to put more in? Who can say, but until they do we can add as much social content as we like. Or we can even ask Blizzard nicely to put more in. I myself would love to see garrisons become a guild hub with an area to hold events. Members doing duels in one area. In another area a random guild member will be given a boss size stat boost and the rest of the guild can try there best to kill a raid boss who thinks for themselves. So much can be addon or done to help the social scene in the game rather than have people stand in there garrison on there own watching NPCs walk by while they chat to friends. So do your guild a favour and hold some social events.
Thank you
Irishcookie
Please if you have any events you run put them in the comments and I will add them. Just make sure to say just how the event works.
If you work with addons and think one could be created for the Catch me if you can event please let me know.

If this is your first Wowhead guide I'd say it's very well done. Definitely an interesting set of guild events. I'm sure this will spike the interest of more people along the way.

Here's another fun idea for an event - do an easter egg hunt during Noblegarden with the new painted eggs which have different amounts of gold inside.

One I have done for 2 years in a row and gets about 15% participation from the guild is Secret Santa. Easy for most, but takes about 3 hours for the admin person.
About 3-4 weeks before Christmas, ask for names of who wants to participate and give them about 2 weeks to sign-up.
At the end of the sign-up, the "Admin" player gives each player their "target".
Players can then 'armory' that person and find out things such as
What pets they have
What mounts they have
What their gear situation is
The week before Christmas, they send all their gifts to the admin and on Christmas eve the admin mails out all the gifts.
Gifts can range from raid-pets, tradeable mounts, even store bought pets/mounts, crafted gear, crafted bags, flasks, potions, even food supplies.
As Guild Lead, I managed it and I usually keep a running spreadsheet in Google Docs of who got what and then if someone's gift list seems a little light, I add to it. I also help players figure out what gifts might be easy, yet meaningful / significant.
Then, I created a level 1 toon called HelperElf that I use to mail from so it adds to the flair... toss in some cookies and wrap what can be wrapped and e-mail.
Positives:
People seem to enjoy it, can work with just a few people signing up... 4-5 people can make it work.
Negatives:
Takes a LOT of admin time the more people that participate. I found that about 20 people is as many as you'd want. The activity manager doesn't really directly participate, but you still get that warm-fuzzy of giving out gifts. Plus, since I sneak in gifts here and there, I end up participating in the whole activity.

Brilliant! Purely brilliant!
I made this a favourite and I will run some of those any time soon in my socially-almost-dead guild.
Brilliant!
Thank you so very much!

This post needs more acknowledgement, especially from Blizzard!
Been trying to fight the ego-centered and selfish culture that the game is injecting into players for years, and can definitely say that getting the social aspect of a guild up and running, is not always easy.
I do hope Blizzard will implement something soon, so being a part of a guild isn't just about raiding.
Would personally love to see the ability to make puzzles for guildies (kindof like the ones for the Hive Mind and the Lucid Nightmare mounts, but obviously less extensive) and also a fan of transforming garrisons into Guild Homes. Hell... give us the ability to design our own hubs (for gold or some other form of currency).
I'm not picky, but we could definitely need some more focus on making friends in the game.
So thank you for all these suggestions! Will definitely try them in my guild :)

Our guild has transmog contests typically. We recently played Noggenfogger Darts and it was so much fun!
