A core choice at the start of your journey in the Shadowlands will have you decide where your allegiance lies; would you rather support the Kyrian of Bastion, the Necrolords of Maldraxxus, the Night Fae of Ardenweald, or the Venthyr of Revendreth?
Choosing a covenant is the most important decision your character will make in Shadowlands, as the covenant abilities and soulbinds will significantly impact your spec's gameplay and performance. Through this choice, your rotation changes, certain bonuses appear in dungeons for your entire group, and you are able to follow the story in different paths.
In this Shadowlands guide, we will help you choose the right covenant for your playstyle, based on how much they impact your performance as a Fire Mage, updated for .

Best Fire Mage Covenants for Raiding
Raiding normally values single-target damage but there is a lot to consider when naming the best Covenant for raid.
The covenant abilities are as follows:
璀璨火花
(Kyrian) - A debuff that stacks, increasing damage done to a target.
折磨之镜
(Venthyr) - A debuff with stacks that grants cooldown reduction for
火焰冲击
. One stack is removed when the enemy attacks, casts spells, or uses an ability.
变易幻能
(Night Fae) - Large AOE channel that offers cooldown reduction for all spells.
死神之躯
(Necrolord) - Slight damage buff that makes
火球术
cleave two additional targets.
Night Fae is the best Covenant for Fire Mages generally.
Dreamweaver
of Night Fae has an extremely early second Potency slot once we reach Renown 13.
Kyrian technically does more Single Target for Fire than Night Fae due to how strong
Pelagos
'

is, but it's very close. I still recommend Night Fae for Fire Mages across all content.
Necrolord is close due to
Emeni's
passive stat buff provided by the Soulbind

. Since the other benefits of Necrolord are small for Fire Mages and there is only one suitable Soulbind, it is not prefered.
As for the other Covenant abilities: the Kyrian's
璀璨火花
and Venthyr's
折磨之镜
don't synergize well with Fire Mage. They aren't terrible options, since the power of Covenants is largely based on the Soulbinds. These Covenants are not bad, but are also not the best. In a raid environment, however, you can probably justify them based on the encounter.
Best Fire Mage Covenants for Mythic+
In Mythic+ AoE is king. Regardless of whether the affixes call for more single target or AoE damage, Night Fae performs best. No other Covenants come close.

Fire Mage Raiding Covenant Analysis
Night Fae
Night Fae is the best choice for raiding for a lot of reasons, which I will get into below:
First off,

is fantastic for Fire Mages since it offers cooldown reduction. The cooldown reduction of Shifting Power is beneficial for Fire Mages since they have multiple short cooldowns, such as

. This benefit becomes more impactful as the number of targets is increased.
Night Fae Fire Mages can use

, a movement speed increase with a built-in teleport you can use every few seconds. This is an amazing mobility tool, but Fire already has reasonable mobility with

and
狂热之速
. More mobility for Fire Mages is always welcome, but definitely not a necessity.
Dreamweaver
has an extremely early second Potency slot at Renown 13. This coupled with a cheat death,

, makes
Dreamweaver
the ultimate progression Soulbind and Night Fae the ultimate Covenant. The other Soulbinds,
Niya
and
Korayn
, are also very strong options.
The last benefit is access to

which is worthwhile if you want a solid second conduit that you can keep slotted regardless of the content you are doing.
Necrolord
The Necrolord Covenant has one strong Soulbind but it's enough to carry the entire Covenant.
Emeni's
passive stat buff provided by the Soulbind,

is just that strong.
Necrolord is close in single target, but falls behind in AoE. Since the other benefits of Necrolord are small for Fire Mages and there is only one suitable Soulbind, if you really like Necrolord you can justify playing it in raid for this reason.
In terms of Soulbinds, you should always use
Emeni

Marileth
and
Heirmir
aren't worth considering compared to the strength of

.

is a strong defensive, but

also provides an absorb shield for 20% of your total health and is instant cast.
Kyrian
The Kyrian ability,

has very little synergy with Fire Mage.
璀璨火花
is a short cooldown that adds a stacking damage debuff on the target with a short cooldown. This debuff is best used to amplify spells like
Pyroblast
.
Pelagos
is the best choice for Fire Mages at all Renown levels.
Kleia
and
Mikanikos
aren't worth considering compared to him.
Kyrian technically does more Singe Target for Fire than Night Fae due to how strong Pelagos'

is, but it's very close. I still recommend Night Fae for Fire Mages across all content.
Kyrian Fire Mages can use

Mages are already able to remove most debuffs with

. Using

to remove a debuff instead of a heal that could save your life in a pinch is not advised, unless the debuff you are removing is worth dying to remove. Overall, this signature ability has some personality but isn't very impactful.
Venthyr
Venthyr Fire Mages gain
折磨之镜
, an ability that applies a debuff with stacks. When the target attacks, casts a spell, or uses an ability, one of the stacks is consumed, triggering a cast and movement speed slow on the target. The Fire Mage also gains 4 seconds of cooldown reduction on
火焰冲击
whenever a stack is consumed.
If the target dies before stacks are consumed, you gain zero benefit from them. Always cast the spell on a target that will survive long enough to consume the stacks.
Fire Mages can use the
汲取恶意
Conduit to grant a damage increase when a Mirror is consumed. Unfortunately this Conduit is slightly behind
熔岩瀑流
and
掌控毁灭
, making it only useful if you lack better options.
At all Renown levels
Nadjia
is the best choice for Fire Mages, with
Theotar
as a very close second. Nadjia's second Potency slot is unlocked at Renown 25, so from Renown level 25 to 27, make sure to stick with Nadjia. At Renown 28 Theotar catches up again with his own second Potency slot.
General Draven
is generally seen as the defensive option, and is only competitive in AoE with

.

grants up to 4% additional Intellect, assuming you stay above 50% but costs you a Potency Conduit. In AoE it's worth taking over the Potency Conduit, assuming your healer keeps you topped.
Venthyr Fire Mages also get
暗影之门
, a targeted teleport with a short cast time. The range of this spell is 35 yards, which is a little under the distance of two
闪光术
s used back-to-back. Door of Shadows is very useful, so long as you can remember to cast it when it is available. One gripe I have about this spell is that it is not a true teleport. It cannot be used to bridge some gaps, returning the error "No Path Available" at times.
Fire Mage Mythic+ Covenant Analysis
Regardless of whether the affixes call for more single target or AoE damage, Night Fae performs best. The Fire Mage raid Covenant analysis (seen above) is also true in Mythic+, but I want to add some additional information.

If all you care about is AoE then yes. Fae is BiS is you want to do .6 k more aoe dps I. Dungeons. It's a crutch as it makes you do some extra dmg without the work. I chose venthyr as I wasn't certain if I would be frost v fire. I've been just fine in content and do way more dmg in bosses than fae fire mages.
This wouldn't be an issue if you could freely swap without punishment.
