Welcome to Wowhead's Classic Cloth Farming guide to Linen Cloth and Wool Cloth! In this guide, we will cover everything about the best places, mobs, and levels to farm Linen Cloth and Wool Cloth efficiently in Classic WoW. In addition, you'll learn the secret of the "sweet spot" -- the optimal mob ranges to farm every type of cloth in Classic!
To see the guide covering higher-end cloth, please read Part 2 on Silk, Mageweave, Runecloth, and Felcloth Farming.
Silk, Mageweave, Runecloth, and Felcloth Farming in Classic WoW
Why Farm Cloth in Classic WoW?
Farming cloth will be even more important in Classic, with the increased importance of
Tailoring
for gear and bags,
First Aid
and the many
reputation turn-in quests
that return to the game. While you will inevitably get drops as you move through normal progression, targeted farming requires a little knowledge of how cloth drops work in the game and hints about the best places to go to get the most cloth for the time invested.
Which Mobs Drop Cloth?
Cloth drops primarily off Humanoids; these will be your most prolific target for most types of cloth. It also drops off Undead, Demons, a few elite Giants, as well as a very small handful of high-level dungeon and raid elites of different types. For farming purposes, however, this guide will focus primarily on areas with Humanoids, with a secondary focus on Undead and Demons, as these are the groups with the highest drop rates and best camping concentration. One cloth type, Felcloth, will be different from the rest as this drops almost exclusively from Demons.
The type of cloth dropped by mobs in Classic WoW is primarily based on their level.

How to Use This Guide
Cloth farming spots are separated by continent, to make them easier to find. Lower level cloth farming (linen and wool) will be separated into Alliance and Horde recommendations, since most characters within these levels will be sticking primarily to faction-specific areas.
Because of this,
Part 1: Linen and Wool
covers all the outdoor zones where players will be leveling characters in the 1-30 range. Part 2 will focus just on the top areas for farming and won't cover all zones.
Click the map thumbnails to see a larger-scale version.
Ren Recommends are handy tips and personal favorite spots for cloth farming.
The four level ranges of cloth farming
Each cloth type has four level ranges. These refer to the level of mobs that will drop this type of cloth.
Start Level: Functional level at which mobs start dropping the cloth. While there may be a rare mob or two that will drop it below this level, it's not worth farming below the start level.
Sweet Spot: The level range where mobs have the greatest percent chance to drop
only
the target cloth at the highest possible rates. Keep to the sweet spot when doing targeted farming, since the yields will be higher.
Overlap: At these levels, you could get the cloth type just above or below your targeted cloth it (such as a chance to get either linen
or
wool). This is less efficient, but there may be times when you want to seek overlaps on purpose.
End Level: While you still might get the odd drop beyond this level, it's pointless to farm intentionally past it. Focus on the sweet spot.

While you can to farm linen in your first newbie zone, as well as a few choice places to do so, the real linen farming action happens in your second (10+) zone. There are a couple odd mobs that will drop linen before level 5, but for the most part you won't see linen until you leave your starter area. At levels 5-10, most mobs will drop 1-2 linen, and by level 11, the drop rate will increase to 1-3.
At level 16 you'll start seeing mobs that drop both linen and wool, neither at the highest yields, so it's best to keep targeted farming inside the sweet spot range.
For those leveling
First Aid
, you will need 119
亚麻布
, and
Tailors
will need at least 465

.
Best Places to Farm Linen Cloth - Kalimdor Alliance
Teldrassil
There are several Gnarlpine furlbog (5-10) camps scattered through Teldrassil. Most of the Gnarlpine camps are in Shadowbreeze Village to the east and in the southwestern quadrant of the zone, such as the
瘤背防御者
and
瘤背战士
. Shadowbreeze Village has a lot of quests, but the camps along the southern wall in particular do not.
The
sprites
and
grells
(5-7) in the caves north of Dolanaar are also a good early camp, though not as dense as the Gnarlpine camps.
If you're tired of killing furlbogs, head up to the northwest corner of the zone to hunt
Bloodfury harpies
(8-10). They are involved in few quests, although they can be annoying for melee as they are densely packed and many are casters.
Darkshore
There are really only two concentrated areas for linen farming in Darkshore. The best area is around Ameth'aran, south of Auberdine, with Highborne ghosts (10-12) and a nearby Blackwood camp (12-14), all within the sweet spot. An alternate spot is up in Bashal'aran, with
grell
and
sprites
(10-12), though it's not as prolific. The other large Blackwood camp east of Bashal'aran (as well as the camps to the south) has good spawn, but the mobs there are high enough level that they overlap linen and wool, so drop rates will suffer.
Ren Recommends: If you're also a miner, you might want to consider taking the fun-filled, death-defying trip to Loch Modan instead of dealing with Darkshore. Darkshore mining is fine, but involves a lot of hill and cliff climbing. Consider taking the extra trip to Westfall if you're also an herbalist. Either move is recommended if you're serious about cloth farming.
Best Places to Farm Linen Cloth - East Kingdoms Alliance
Dun Morogh
Frostmane trolls
(7-10) are decent targets. There are two small camps east of Brewnall Village and another larger one southwest. The whelps in the starter area are too low level.
Rockjaw Bonesnappers
and
Ambushers
(8-10) east of Gol'bolar Quarry may be attractive due to fewer quests in that area.
Elwynn Forest
Kobolds
in Fargodeep Mine and Jangolode Mine (6-8) are a good starting options. The ones in Fargodeep are lower level and won't have a high yield, but you can start sooner. For pure farming, stick to the
Riverpaw gnolls
(8-10). There are several camps for Riverpaw on the northwest shores of Stonecairn Lake, and many in the southwest corner of the zone, near Hogger. Riverpaw are less likely to be busy as there aren't involved in as many quests, particularly the ones up by Stonecairn Lake.
There are also several Defias bandit camps that work well for cloth farming, but these are often heavily camped. The individual camps are spread out and also have fewer spawn, which makes them less ideal for a farm.
Ren Recommends: A good loop starts with the kobolds of Jangolode Mine, west to the camps around Stonecairn, and back again. Don't mess with the murlocs; although humanoids, they rarely if ever drop linen. If you're feeling frisky, you can also hit the
流浪巫师
in the middle of the lake, although if you're high enough level to take them on, it's probably better to move to Westfall.
Loch Modan
Tunnel Rat kobolds and Stonesplinter Troggs will be your key focus in this zone.
Tunnel Rats
(10-14) are concentrated in three primary camps, both in the northwest part of the zone.
碎石穴居人
(11-16) primarily occupy the outdoor areas in the southwest, while some of the higher-level troggs such as the
碎石怪断骨者
(15-16) live either in the caves south of the town of Thelsamar or on the northern island of the Loch. There are many camps of each, mostly in the western half of the zone and on the northern island. Running along the western edge between the top tunnel rat areas in the northwest and the trogg camps to the south makes great linen farming.
The troggs in Ironband's Excavation Site don't drop much linen; they overlap between linen and wool.
Ren Recommends: Loch Modan is a far better cloth farm than Dun Morogh. If you're combining cloth farming with mining, Loch Modan's best linen farming spots along the west walls are rich with copper and occasional tin mines.
Westfall
Westfall is a giant cloth farm, so go there as soon as you are able. There are many Defias human (10-17) and Riverpaw gnoll (11-17) and camps through the entire zone. Defias camps can be found primarily along the middle strip of the zone north. The Riverpaw camps follow along the western coast, from the north just as you enter the zone until Moonbrook, and extending across the bottom half of the zone.
The southernmost areas for both Defias and Riverpaw are transitional, where mobs can drop either wool or linen, though not highest yield on either.
Ren Recommends: Westfall is one of the richest sources of linen in the game. If you're combining cloth farming with Herbalism, the open areas of Defias and Riverpaw camps in open areas are good herbing spots. Bonus:
河爪草药师
in the west coastal camps drop herbs.
Best Places to Farm Linen Cloth - Kalimdor Horde
Durotar
One of the classic recommendations for cloth farming here is the
Kul Tiras castle
(5-7) southwest of Razor Hill. While good for low level characters, this tends to be heavily camped and will not yield as much linen as some other camps in Durotar. The
尘风鹰身人
(7-8) work, but the terrain isn't easy to move around, with several dead ends and a lot of backtracking. Also, if you don't have an easy way to pull from distance, you will miss many harpies that are too far above you.
The Razormane camps starting near Razormane Hill (6-10) are probably the best for lower-level farming. The camps are numerous and spread out well for easy looping. They're higher level on average than the Kul Tiras soldiers and not as heavily camped.
Mulgore
Around the outer edge of Mulgore sit various camps good for cloth farming. Going clockwise,
Palemane gnoll
camps (5-8) start south of Bloodhoof Village and move to the east wall. Continuing north on the wall are the
Bael'dun dwarves
(7-9). From here, either proceed north along the east wall, where the higher-level
Windfury harpies
(8-10) live north of Thunder Bluff, or go straight east across the zone to pick up the
Venture Company
(5-10) camps. You can choose to continue south just over the road to the Barrens to the
Windfury Wind Witch
(8-9) camp, and/or return to the first Palemane camp. Rinse and repeat.
Once you're high enough level to do so, you may wish to move to the harpy camps for targeted farming. Particularly in the north, the harpy camps are less crowded as they are involved in fewer quests.
The Barrens
The
Razormane gnoll
(10-14) camps northwest of the Crossroads are a good place to start, both for quests and for at-level cloth farming. For access and concentration, it's hard to beat the
Southsea pirates
(12-14) south of Ratchet leading into the
Theramore soldiers
(15-16) at the keep. The
Witchwing harpies
(14-16) of the Dry Hills are also a decent choice, again with a low concentration of non-human mobs once you're inside the harpies' perimeter.
All three farm sites have the same good and bad points. None of these areas has large numbers of nonhuman mobs to get in the way, but they are also heavy quest areas with probable competition. Your choice might depend on daily traffic.
Ren Recommends: If you're a skinner and/or herbalist, I strongly recommend going after
Kolkar centaurs
(12-17) around the Forgotten Pools, Wailing Caverns and Stagnant Oasis, which are crowded in with many skinnable beasts. You can hunt centaurs while also getting herbs and tasty skinnables. As an added bonus, there's deviate fishing.
Also, if you're getting close to 20 and wish to move out of The Barrens, and are still need more linen, the
Grimtotem
camps in southern Stonetalon Mountains are good higher-level linen farms.
Best Places to Farm Linen Cloth - East Kingdoms Horde
Tirisfal Glades
Truth be told, Tirisfal Glades is one giant cloth farm. People tend to focus on the Scarlet camps with all the humans, such as
Solliden Farm
(5-7),
Crusader Outpost
(6-7), and
Scarlet Watch Post
(7-8), and while these are all great cloth farms, there are larger concentrations of Undead mobs that also drop linen at good rates. The best beginning farm is the
破碎的尸体
and
腐烂的死者
(5-7) just west of Brill, near Cold Hearth Manor, with high mob density and quick spawn rates. A higher-level spot is Agamand Mills (7-11), with large numbers of undead mobs such as the
暗眼骷髅法师
Darkeye Bonecaster. The area north of Brill contains many linen-dropping mobs such as
腐皮豺狼人
(6-8). And Balnir Farmstead east of Brill is a higher-level area with
游荡的幽灵
and
腐烂的古尸
(10-11). In this case, you may wish to stay in Tirisfal a little longer to farm the mobs at Balnir, since the cloth pickings in Silverpine Forest aren't quite as good.
Ren Recommends: There is one other advantage to the Ravaged Corpse/Rotting Dead camp west of Brill: the little farmhouse near the bridge houses a tailoring trainer. Great one-stop shopping if you're gathering linen to level tailoring.
Silverpine Forest
Lower-level linen farming is a bit slim, due to the small sizes of the camps. There are a small number of
鸦爪奴隶
(11-12) near the Ivar Patch and a larger group of
鸦爪仆从
(13-14) east of The Sepulchre. A northern
Rot Hide
camp (11-13) will serve well for lower-level farming.
At higher levels, the many humanoids around Dalaran such as the
达拉然学徒
,
安伯米尔魔导师
and
安伯米尔保卫者
(13-16) will be the best camp for your purposes. Just watch for a few nasty elites wandering around the area, particularly the closer you get to Pyrewood Village.
Best Places to Farm Linen Cloth in Classic WoW
If what to do at level isn't a concern and you just want to know where the best linen farms are, here are my rankings:
Westfall
Loch Modan
/
The Barrens
Silverpine Forest
Darkshore
The 1-10 zones may have good mob density, but they will drop lower amounts of linen per kill than if you stick to the best level ranges, so I am only ranking the five higher-level zones.
Westfall
is the undisputed king of the linen farm, but
Loch Modan
and
The Barrens
aren't far behind. Both have plenty of camps over the sweet spot, and later camps can even bridge into some wool farming. The only reason Loch Modan edges out The Barrens is the camps are closer to one another.
Silverpine Forest
is decent, particularly around Dalaran, but
Darkshore
scores a distant fifth to all the other zones.
Farming Wool Cloth
Level Ranges to Farm Wool Cloth
Start Level:
16
Sweet Spot:
16-26
Overlap:
14-15
|
28-30
End Level:
30
On the one hand,
毛料
has a long sweet spot -- the yield and frequency are about the same throughout these levels. On the other hand, it's because the yield and frequency of wool drops are not as high as linen overall. While linen drops up to 3 in the sweet spot, wool only drops a maximum of 2. For that reason, wool farming is always slower because you have to kill an average of 50% more mobs at peak levels to get the same yield as linen.
This is primary reason I suggest a move to a higher-level zone to collect wool. Most of the upper-level mobs in the 10-20 zones drop can drop either linen or wool. They almost never drop both at once, and it will almost always be at the lower end of the possible drop yield. Wool already drops at a lower rate than linen, so you don't want the stack the deck against yourself if you're doing serious wool farming.
There are still a few faction-specific zones in the East Kingdoms in this level range, and these will be called out by faction icon.
For those leveling
First Aid
, you will need at least 105
毛料
, and
Tailors
will need at least 265
毛料
. For reputation turn-ins, you will need 60
毛料
per turn-in (once per faction per character).
Best Places to Farm Wool Cloth - Kalimdor
Ashenvale
Alliance can start with the
Dark Strand
and
Forsaken
(18-21) north of Maestra's Post. This will not work for Horde as the mobs will be friendly to them. The naga of Zoram's Strand do not drop cloth
For both factions, there are two major Furlbog camps, the
Thistlefurs
(23-24) and
Foulwealds
(23-25}, with camps not far from Ashenvale. There are two good-sized, higher-level demon camps, the
Felmusk
(25-27) and the
Xavien
(28-30), near Splintertree Post. The Xavien may drop silk cloth as well.
Horde can also prey on the
Laughing Sisters
(24-25) of Raynewood Retreat (Laughing Sisters are friendly to Alliance). It combines well with the southern Furlbog camps and does not require crossing past hostile Ashenvale.
Ren Recommends: Ashenvale has several locations in the perfect level range for farming wool. The Thistlefur camps are great for lower level ranges; although these are involved in a few quest lines, the camp is so large and spread out you can nearly always find an area to farm that isn't under attack by other players. My personal favorite spot for higher-level farming are the 25-27 satyrs in Night's Run, just east of Raynewood Retreat. Approach this camp from the western road to avoid the crowds of hard-hitting, high-HP bears on the eastern approach. Horde players should also beware of the wandering
游荡的守护古树
, a level 35 elite that wanders the approach to Night's Run. The Night's Run satyrs are better than those of Xavian, which are higher level and overlap with Silk. The Felmusk satyrs of Night's Run cast
无比恶臭
, an annoying 6-second silence (casters: bring wands). which is much better than the Bleakheart's ability
冷心诅咒
, a three-minute curse that casts random chest pains that stuns your character for several seconds. This also can affect hunter and warlock pets. Even druids and mages who can remove this curse may find this more annoying than the short six-second Silence of the lower-level satyrs.
Stonetalon Mountains
While primarily a Horde zone, the Alliance have enough to do here that it's still worth mentioning for both factions.
Venture Company
humanoids (18-22) roam are all over the area of Windshear Crag. The large area and population density makes for excellent cloth farming, probably the best in the zone. As a bonus, in the southern part of Windshear Crag is a large tunnel system with
Windshear kobolds
(20-23), though you may not need to bother if you're getting enough action with the Venture Company.
Once you're in need of higher-level action, move to the Charred Vale to hunt
Bloodfury Harpies
(23-27). The further south you move in the Vale, the higher level the harpies become.
Grimtotem tauren in the southern part of the zone are too low level for a wool farm, but can be farmed for linen if desired.
Ren Recommends: Stonetalon is better suited for the Horde than Ashenvale for a number of reasons, mostly having to do with questing and density of available wool farms at all levels. Horde players lack a good 18-22 wool farm in Ashenvale.
Best Places to Farm Wool Cloth - East Kingdoms
Redridge Mountains
With large camps of gnolls and orcs, Redridge is a great cloth farming zone. Most of the
Redridge gnolls
(14-17) live in large camps southwest of the lake, while another group of primarily
赤脊山苦工
lives in caves northwest of Lakeshire. Higher-level
暗皮豺狼人
(22-23) and
暗皮蛮兵
(23-24) live in a large area north of the Tower of Ilgalar.
Lower-level
Blackrock Grunts
(19-20) can be found along the lakeshore path northeast out of Lakeshire, while the highest concentration of
Blackrock Orcs
(21-24) is in the mountains north of Lakeshire. There are a few other orc camps, most notably around Stonewatch Keep and in the southeast corner of the zone, but these camps contain large numbers of elites and are not recommended farms at level. Farming the elites is inefficient, since they don't drop wool at a higher rate or frequency than the regular orcs.
Whether you choose orcs or gnollls will depend on local traffic, as all these areas tend to be busy for quests. The Shadowhide gnolls in the northeast may be the least busy, but can be inconvenient to reach.
Duskwood
Duskwood is not a good wool farming zone. Many of the good humanoid and undead mobs are high enough level that they split between wool and silk, with low yields on both -- most of the undead in Raven Hill cemetery and the ogres of Vul'Gol Ogre Mound fall into this category. The Nightbane worgen in Duskwood do not drop any cloth (although they are skinnable, a difference in Classic).
There is only one decent camp for farming wool, and that's the Tranquil Gardens Cemetery in the southeastern part of the zone (21-24), most notably the
骷髅战士
.
Wetlands
The Wetlands doesn't have a many good wool farm choices, but there's enough if your goal is First Aid rather than Tailoring.
Dragonmaw orcs
(19-21) will be your early targets, both for the zone and for wool farming. The higher level Dragonmaw in the center-zone camp, such as the Swamprunners, mostly drop silk (occasionally wool) at low yields.
Two camps of
Mosshide gnolls
will be your farm spots, one along the road in the center of the zone (20-23) and the higher level camp in
Mosshide Fen
( 23-25) in the wetlands north of Whelgar's Excavation Site.
Hillsbrad Foothills
The
Syndicate
of Durnholde Keep (20-22) are in a great level range for solid wool farming, and have good mob density. There's also a small camp on the road to Durnholde Keep in the region of the Eastpoint Tower, so pick those up on your way to the castle.
A little higher level on average, the Hillsbrad Fields in the central-west of the zone are covered with humanoids -- from
farmhands
to
councilmen
(22-26), there is both good concentration and a nice level range for a compact wool farm. Not the crop they were hoping to promote, wool is the surprise hot product of the Hillsbrad Fields.
If you have a way to slow runners, make sure you use it in both of these camps. They are densely populated and all the mobs run when low health.
The Dun Garok dwarves are high enough level that they drop low-yield silk, not wool.
Best Places to Farm Wool Cloth in Classic WoW
If what to do at level isn't a concern and you just want to know where the best wool farms are, here are my rankings:
Stonetalon Mountains
/
Ashenvale
/
Redridge Mountains
Hillsbrad Foothills
Wetlands
Duskwood
It's a tossup (as well as a matter of faction and personal preference) as to which of the three top zones is best. As between the Kalimdor zones,
Stonetalon Mountains
is better for Horde and is a better mining zone;
Ashenvale
is a better Alliance zone.
Redridge Mountains
might have a slight edge over Ashenvale, but likely not enough to switch continents.
Hillsbrad Foothills
is nearly on par with Redridge, so the top four are all good choices.
Wetlands
and especially
Duskwood
fall under the "do them if you have to" category, but if you're doing a concentrated wool farm, any of the four top choices will serve you far better.

I didn't realize the second part was on the left bar. Should probably update the link on the bottom to go to that page.

The labels for linen Alliance continents are backwards - it says "Kalimdor Alliance" for Elwynn/Westfall/Etc and "Eastern Kingdom Alliance" for Teldrassil/Darkshore.

I farmed most of my linen at the Dreadmist Peak. It is a big hill on the left side of the road leading to Ashenvale that is full of orcs. Also, as far as I know, there is just a singular quest related to the area, so for the most part I was the undisputed and undisturbed king of this hill.

Very nice guide!
One tip about wool farming is SW Stockades if you have a high level toon. It is a short dungeon, so you can make it 5 times a hour without much rush in a 50+. Each run you gets around 60-80 Wool Cloth, some Linen and Silk also (around 15-25 of each). And it drops a good quantity of green itens. It is around 450-700 cloth per hour.
Yes, it is an alliance-only spot.

some aspects of this are straight up wrong, particularly with regards to the "overlap" level range on cloth types, for an example the Ashenvale 25-26 Satyrs drop almost exclusively silk, not wool, as per a test of 50 kills for the horns quest. My yield was 1 stack of silk, which was at that time useless to me, and the wool i needed i got a grand total of 2 pieces.
