The term "emote" means to express emotion. Using in game emotes are used to convey moods & observable actions. Emotes are slash commands that generate a chat message (default color orange) and are often accompanied by audio and some character action. The opposing faction can also see your default emotes but for your custom emotes all they will see is : <your name> makes some strange gestures.
Due to the overwhelming number of emotes I'm dividing my guide into 4 teeny guides. The highlighted guide is the one this page is looking at:-
Happy, Polite, Friendly & Affectionate Emotes.
Neutral, Unhappy & Despondent Emotes.
Taunts, Hostile & Combat Emotes.
Reactions, Miscellaneous & Custom Emotes.
Two possible emote outcomes & targeting.
In the tabs below I have listed two possible outcomes for the one emote. There is the 'first person' emote (displayed on the first line) and then the 'second person' or 'emote interaction' result (displayed on the second line.) If you have not targeted a player the first line will be the outcome, if you do target someone (may it be player, NPC, pet or companion) the second line will be the outcome. With regards to targeting someone/thing, for default emotes, all you need to do is either click on the target or type /tar <insert target's name here> then you proceed with the slash command default emote. With custom emotes it's not as simple as just targeting someone as there is no pre-set first person or pre-set second person option so you will need to include the target's name in your crafted emote in order for it to make sense. A easy way to do this is to target the person and then type %t, %t's %ts into your custom emote where you wish the target's name to be.
e.g I have seen my friend DemonicYoshi across the other side of the AH so I target them, then I type:
/e wants %t's toasted cheese sandwich to call her sometime.
Slugbuckets wants DemonicYoshi's toasted cheese sandwich to call her sometime.
If interest I go into detail on crafting custom emotes on the very last tab on the very last guide.
Taunts, Hostile & Combat Emotes.
In my last guide we looked at the sad depressive emotes, now it's time to look at the more angry (and somewhat fun) ones. The following is a list of default emotes that can be used in the game. All of the below emotes are viewable by the opposing faction and some emotes share the same result/outcome.
I hope you enjoy this guide
Some of the emotes have associated animations (A), sound (S) or both (AS) & I've marked them accordingly.

Unfortunately this is very effectively used by trolls to stir up emotions, especially as a means to rebuke others. If you're not a troll/griefer you need to use these emotes carefully and almost always use them in showing your anger at specific situations or things (i.e someone taking your node from you when you were like right there over the darn thing) rather than trolling/griefing the average person who is minding their own business.

Emote Addons
If you love the idea of emotes but the options are all too much there are some neat emote addons available. Some addons I've personally tried and found fairly straight forward are:
TitanEmote
AddEmote
EmoteLDB
Chinchilla Critter Emote
Whatever you do don't run them at the same time at first, it can get confusing, just try each one out and see if you like it. There used to be a fun emote addon out for hunter & lock pets called PetEmote but sadly the creators stopped working on it a couple of years ago. But if there are any bored programmers out there who are after a project.....
Thank you for reading this guide, if interested the next guide is :

I love these guides! I've been very hit and miss with emotes in game. Often I know I want to use one, but invariably I try a command which does not work and get the default message which also does not work (to get me the "list" of emotes in game.)
SO glad I found this!
TY for your hard work.

Question:
If I am in one location
and I'm guild chatting with someone at a location far away
, and I do an emote, will they see it in their chat box.
I've been wondering this since Nobelgarden 2014. I was sitting and munching my way through to the
Chocoholic
Achievement and chatting with a guild mate. When he asked how it was going, I emoted
/belch
and replied, Great!
Since we had already been chatting, my chats were in green text and I knew he could see that, but I don't know if he saw my belch and my small attempt at humour?
It just dawned on me that if it didn't work as I thought it did, someone close by me would have seen me sitting there and belch randomly!

Thank you so much! This Guide was very helpful. I never Knew you could create your own emotes. I always wondered how Role-players said all those randoms sayings. Now I can play along with them.
I'm so happy I discovered this about the game.It makes me wonder how many other things I don't know about the game.
