"Bear-ly Made it", With Plenty of Time to Spare!
is pretty easy to solo now-days (post patch 5.4.7), and rewards you with a
cool bear mount
to boot. However, if you have never been in
before, it can be a little confusing to successfully navigate your way through within the time limit. Here's a handy how-to guide to collect your achievement and sweet new ride!
!! Please remember to vote/comment if you find this guild useful !!
How to use this guide
Each boss includes a map on how to get to it. On each map, start at the yellow dot and follow the blue route along the path indicated. Each boss location is marked with a red dot, and the prisoner you need to rescue after defeating the boss is marked with a green dot.
You'll need a
lvl 90 (or higher) in order to handle this dungeon with ease.
Aim for an ilvl of about 540 or higher and you'll breeze through this dungeon like a hot knife through butter!
Update: After the stat squish introduced in patch 6.0.2, this should be fairly easy to accomplish even at lower item levels, perhaps as low as the 490's.
is located in the
. The easiest way to get here is to take the flight path to just outside the entrance, if you know it. If not, make your way to Silvermoon city and hoof it south from there. Keep in mind you can't use a flying mount in the Ghostlands. The entrance is all the way up the huge staircase, so you should not have too much trouble finding it once you get close. Before you head in, make sure that your dungeon difficulty is set to Heroic Mode
Once inside you'll find yourself in a building with a bunch of friendly npc's. Talk to everyone's favorite troll,
, and tell him you are ready to ring the gong. Follow Vol'jin and click on the gong when it becomes active. Both you and the NPC must hit it at roughly the same time, so just stand there and whack it for a bit. Don't be surprised if it takes a few tries. Eventually it will work, and Vol'jin will walk away and start yelling about how the gates are now open. This is your cue that the timer has started, so now run towards the big gates as they open up. Prepare to face a few adds that rush the doors.
Quick note about trash mobs
: with an ilvl 550 geared warlock, I was able to fight about 4-5 adds comfortably. Pulling more than that gets a bit hairy, and if you try to run straight to the boss, you'll pull too many and risk a wipe. I was able to down about 7 adds at once, but health was getting dangerously low. Classes without self healing will want to avoid the larger pulls. Just don't panic, and don't pull too many....you'll have plenty of time.***
Map to Akil'zon
The clock is ticking! Time to move out! You'll want to try and stick mainly to the paths on your map, but skirt the fringes where possible to avoid pulling unnecessarily. Head down the stairs and take a U-turn to your left, working your way up the winding ramp the path. The goal is to reach
, the first boss. This is a narrow pathway, and so you can't really help but gain some unwanted followers here. Group up the trash in bunches of 4-5, and take them out. Continue on down the path until you have another 4-5, rinse and repeat. You will probably have to stop 3 times before you reach your final destination.
When you reach the boss, simply DPS him down. AoE the hawks as they come at you; they have low health and are nothing to worry about if you take them out as they come. Once dead, run over to the caged prisoner on the southwest extension and tell him he's free to go. Should you forget this part, or forget to release one of the next three prisoners,
. After you kill all four bosses you can run back and release them without hurting your timer!
Map to Nalorakk
NalorakkPrisoner #2Nalorakk waits on the ledge
, jump back down the walls and head straight down (south), roughly back the way you came. You will want to pick up the trail heading to the right from the stairs at the entrance, heading towards
. Avoid the patrols, and don't run into the trolls in the middle of the lake. Don't worry about the little neutral peon guys, they won't aggro unless you attack them first.
You'll first see
standing on a ledge. He will yell at you, and send some mobs to attack. Pick them up underneath the ledge and kill them. Avoid running around the corner to your right, since there are more adds waiting for you there (and these have healing abilities, so be ready with your stuns, etc.). Once the pack is down, follow the boss up the ramps, taking out each wave of adds he sends at you. Not a problem. When you reach the top platform, engage the boss. I heard he can hit pretty hard, but I was able to DPS him down without taking too much damage. At some point he will shapeshift into a bear. He only had about 2 or 3 seconds in bear form before he died, so maybe I killed him before his heavy hitting abilities kicked in. If you continue the fight for a longer duration while he is in bear form, expect to take significantly more damage. Pretty easy fight otherwise...no adds or crazy things like that. Remember to free the caged prisoner off to the right of the big gong behind the boss after you've killed him.
Map to Jan'alai
Now turn around and head down one platform level. You'll see the ramp you came up on to your right, so head left down the other side, following the path south towards the bottom of your map. Take this path around the curve, and it will lead you to the next boss,
Be careful of the
mobs in this area. They have low health, but if they "see" you, they will run off and summon a pair of adds that will attack you. Kill them before they are able to reach a drum and sound the alarm! Otherwise, you might have two or more scouts run off and pull several groups to you, which can become a problem. Some of the mobs in this area have a stun, and if they interrupt you in mid-heal prepare to watch your health quickly disappear! 6+ baddies pounding on you can certainly make a dent, even at level 90. Do your best to hug the wall to your left in this area as you take out these scouts and other small groups. Ignore everything off to the right as much as possible.
Keep following the wall on your left until you reach a set of stairs. Head up these, where you will now face
. This is another fairly simple boss fight. His flame breath won't do much damage, but by now you should have an aversion to standing in flames, so just allow your reflexes to move you out of harm's way. At some point, this boss summons a wave of adds that run at you from the side. I was able to DPS him down fast enough that the adds never made it to me, they simply de-spawned about halfway to me. If your DPS is not quite high enough to accomplish this, be ready for the zerg (in other words, save your stuns and cooldowns for this part). Go back down the stairs you came up, and free the third caged prisoner once you pummel all the Dragonhawks into the floor.
Map to Halazzi
HalazziPrisoner #4 (Kasha)
Three down, one to go! Mount up, and run off the far ledge of the platform, heading north towards the middle of the map. You're now off to your last boss,
. Check your timer at this point (top middle of your screen), although you should have plenty to spare. Follow the path straight up the middle of the zone, again trying to avoid as many mobs as possible, but fighting as necessary to avoid pulling too many. You'll come to a spot on your map where the path branches off to your right, or continues on towards a building and large door. This door is closed (don't waste time running all the way to it!), so take the branch off to your right. You'll know you're close to the split when you see all the cute little
s in the area (they are cute, but they are also hostile!). Follow this narrow path along the north-east edge of the lake.
CAUTION: This area contains stealth mobs
. If not prepared, you'll suddenly find yourself in the middle of a pack of tigers! A water walking mount, such as
, or something similar (I used the
ability) can be of use here to avoid some of these groups. Keep heading along the path (or parallel to the path if on the water, as recommended) until you reach a wall jutting out, then bend to your left. Take out the stealth mobs as they appear; don't continue to rush forward or you risk pulling another stealthed pack. Even if you avoid a majority of the stealth mobs along the path, be prepared to face a group as you turn the corner of the wall, before you reach the entrance to the building.
through the doorway. You can skip the other (visible) mobs outside the door, so head inside and engage the boss. This should not be a terribly challenging fight, just be prepared for his self heals. You can take out each
he spawns to help cut down on his ability to heal (or, attempt to leave all his totems up if you're also trying for the
achievement). Be aware that this boss is designed as a multi-phase encounter, and at each phase change he will regain health. My DPS was high enough that I got him down to 1 health before he began phase 2, and he simply healed back up to "full" at the switch. Again, just keep DPS'ing through each phase, burn through his heals, and he will eventually die.
Boss 5: Profit!
Assuming you did all this before the timer on your screen reaches zero, congratulations! You just earned the achievement
, but don't run away just yet! You still need to collect your mount!
If you forgot to free any of the earlier prisoners, now is the time to go back and release them.
Be aware that there are still some trash packs roaming around, but you can now relax and breathe easy. With
dead, your timer isn't running anymore, so don't worry if you aggro anything along the way. Just dispatch them casually and move along.
If you've remembered to free all three prisoners after each boss kill, it's time to release the fourth and final prisoner! Next to the door you came through to fight
, you will see
trapped in a cage. Talk to her and let her out, as the fourth and final prisoner. She will thank you, and proceed to run around the room "smashing" urns, so follow her around and loot the small piles of coins that drop. Eventually she will uncover a brown, lootable sack (
). This is where you will find your
. Loot it, learn it, and enjoy your new ride! RAWR!
I hope you find this guide to completing the
achievement helpful. With my ilvl 550 warlock, I was able to complete this achievement with about 10 minutes to spare. This was in spite of the fact that I alt+tabbed out several times to look at maps and read up on boss tactics (which ended up not even being necessary because of high DPS that characters can produce now), which probably wasted a solid 3-4 minutes in total. Keep in mind that the first two bosses will add 5 minutes each to your timer (but the third does not). Additionally, if you do this achievement in a group, only one of you will win the mount, so discuss your loot roll strategy before going inside (or hopefully you trust the other person enough to run it again with you the next day so you both can get the mount). Remember: heroic dungeons can only be run once per day.
I'd also like to give a quick acknowledgement to wowhead user
, and his
posted on the achievement
, since it helped me complete it the first time through.
This is my first attempt at writing a guide. If you find it helpful, please remember to vote at the top of the page! I would also welcome any friendly feedback/corrections/suggestions/etc. Thanks for reading!

So I am attempting this on my rogue ilvl 517 and I can't get past the second boss. When he does his brutal strike or whatever it hits me for over 500k in one shot. Is there a way to avoid this? Like if I run out of his hit box? if not then I think it will literally be impossible for me to solo this dungeon...
Any suggestions on how to solo this as a level 90 Frost DK? Should I change specs?
Man I wish I would have read this guide beforehand. I just went in blind. My ilvl is 519 and I can handle it pretty well a couple of the bosses give me trouble, particularly Halazzi. Unfortunately I didn't make the timer today but hopefully with this guide I'll have my new mount tomorrow! Thank you!
Excellent guide, thank you! Finished first go following this.
Great guide thank you. Just did this on my 90 hunter, my item level is a lot lower than suggested 540 (currently 511) but it wasn't too challenging (had one failed attempt).
Hunter specific things that might help to keep trash off you and on your pet. While keeping your pet alive!
Did this on my 520 ilvl BM Hunter, it was damn easy.
Quick comment about the ilvl requirement:
I did it today with my 506 ilvl retribution paladin. Was quite easy and when I finished the achievement I had still 15min left on the clock. Maybe the stat squish comes in handy here...
Thank you very much for the great and detailed guide! Was my first time in Zul'Aman and got the achievement first try :)
Easiest thing to do is grab a friend and burst through it. A friend and I finished the whole thing with 22 mins remaining.
Thank you so much for your guide. Knocked it out on first try during Warlords as a 100 Frost Mage. Just rode mount through all mobs, not caring. Spammed aoe in front of boss to kill adds each time. Downed bosses in most cases before they could even close to me. Easy peasy. Thanks!
Remember the prisoner folks! I did'nt read triough the guide, And this one is easy @ lvl 100.
It helped me a lot. The maps and descriptions of where the prisoners were was great. In addition to the achievements for doing the dungeon and getting the bear mount I also got Tunnel Vision and Ring Out. Thank you!
Playing Alliance (ilv 646 warrior) but can't seem to enter instance. I took flight path(s) from Stormwind via Quel Danas to front door of Zul but when I get to entrance, it won't load. Not sure if this is a bug or if something else is going on? Any help would be much appreciated.
It should be noted that Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub are both available only on heroic.
Great guide, TY!
great guide ty
Awesome guide! Went through the first time and couldn't find the bag...... I didn't realize you had to do it in the timer! And even if you have done the achievement before, you CAN do the requirements again and the bag will appear again (if you miss it the first time, it's hard to notice unless you know what to look for and where to look).
Still a great guide. I tried this once with no prep just to see if I could do it, ran the wrong way and ran out of time. Read this guide and finished with 16 minutes to spare.
Thanks a lot! Now I finally have the achievement (and the bear) with 10 minutes left on the timer
Nice guide, but one thing needs to be emphasized:
Before you free Kasha, be sure to free all the other prisoners first!
If you don't, she will simply thank you and despawn.
One of the best step-by-step guides I've seen on this site - a lot of work's gone into it, and the result is clear, easy to follow and useful. Many thanks.
Still available in BFA, I was really bummed that I missed my guild's final bear run in BC.
At 120 the whole thing took about 10-15 minutes from zone in to zone out.
