As a Level 80, I find it's most efficient to camp somewhere peaceful and relaxing (meaning devoid of pesky Alliance to interrupt me) and queue for Battlegrounds or Heroics. Since either of these take anywhere between 10 and 20 minutes to pop, I can get a decent session of fishing in between, without having the boredom factor drive me insane.
fishing is actually quite relaxing ... when ever im bent out of shape because of some jerks-real life and in game-i just go fishing.
usually away from some of the horde who seem to like to kill me just because im a clothie
i like to fish in the middle of the sea using shaman Water walking xd
Chance to get skill on each sucesful ctatch:
"Skill" - your actual
fishing skill (without rules, enchant, fishing equipment or other +skill things)
edit: fixed, yes I meant
i suggest if you are a fisher, untill you have the whole 1000 fish achievement, pick up everything that drops, thats right everything.
also, if you want to get 450 fishing and wouldnt mind a little money too, go into wailing caverns and just outside the portal theres a big pond thing, just sit there for hours fishing, because dropped from there are uncooked deviate fish, if you can make them into savory deviate delight, then great! cook them and add a 10g for each stack, if not then just either sell them as that, or get a cook who has the very rare savory deviate recipe and get them to cook them all, i suggest before you go there, bank everything apart from a hearth stone, because, depending on your inventory size you will need a bit more than 1 inventory full, so in order to not have to run around, i suggest anything as big as a frostweave bag or bigger, 4 of them and you wont have to come back. Good luck!
Does anyone know if, at level 450, there is any benefit at all to fishing buffs like the +30 Kalu'ak pole and the Fishing hats etc? I currently use them more out of habit than anything but it could save me hassle if it wasn't needed.
There used to be enchants, which increased fishing skill (like gatherer enchant on gloves - hope I remembered name well). Couldn't find any info about them in the fishing sections. Do You have any info bout them? I missed 1,5 years of playing WoW so I missed quite a lot happenings. = )
It is my understanding that as of patch 3.3, your fishing skill has no affect on your chance / speed of catching fish. It is only for items that require a certain skill level to use (poles, etc).
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
While leveling an alt's fishing skill from 1 to 75, I found that it is more profitable to fish without a lure in pools that are above your skill. The grey items you catch this way vendor for more than actual fish.
I am just starting out fishing... one question! How do I use the pole!
If You do the Fontana coins achievments.. this will skill You up to 450 :o)
Anybody know where the Illustrious Grand Master trainer will be?

501-525 (416 total)
Which sums up to a grand total of 4316 fish. This is a preety rouch estimate due to decimal issues but anywhere between 4300 and 4500 is what you should be expecting.
Currently there is bug for fishing in Uldum. Occasionly it will make you in combat right after you caught a fish.
Perhaps it shows the attitude of fishing from Blizzard.
"Fishing, combat between people and fish."
The most efficient way of leveling fishing must be what I did back in TBC, offer a broke friend (preferably one who is not playing WoW because they know...) a few 6-packs of the strongest beer you can find, have him get one each time he levels 15 skillpoints. This will:
Make the person enough affected by the alcohol by 100 skillpoints that he/she actually can withstand the boredom.
After this he/she will probably want more til they pass out, switch to a slightly lighter beer to keep them awake, mix with a glass of water in between every beer and keep doing that til' you hit the skillpoint you agreed upon. Some money always helps too. And music. Talking too. ANYTHING. Have a few beers yourself aswell, since watching this is painful for both mind and soul.
Is there anyway to use a macro that automatically casts 'Fishing' when you loot the previous fish?
Thank goodness archeology came along - it makes fishing seem much more exciting and faster to develop by contrast.
Today i hit 525.....from 500 to 525 took 250 fish, 10 per point. Obviously WoW has nerfed fishing. Throw the old formula away.
Is there anyway to somehow fish using only the keyboard?
I originally thought every aspect of this game could be done with no mouse but I guess not.
Might wanna update that all Secondary professions are found in skills which is hot keyed with "k"
Don't forget fishing goes with Alchemy as well as cooking. :)
Can you do more than one fishing daily a day? ( on horde side) My boyfriend, on an ally toon, was able to do 4-5 a day. I've been able to do only one. Does it depend on your fishing level?
Yes you can. There is a fishing daily in Org. Also one in Dal, and one in the outlands that I know of. There probably is one in Undercity as well. The fishing daily in Org give you a +1 fishing skill when complete
A comic regarding wearing the silliest gear to boost fishing:
So I have noticed that if you fish in the "pools" you will catch that type of fish; even if your skill is 1! Nice since I'm fishing up Highland Guppy on my Lock with a skill of 54 :P
I think they may have changed fishing skill ups in patch 4.3 a little. I was just working on skilling up an alt's fishing and I gained 5 points in about 6 minutes. Before the patch it was taking me around 15 - 20 minutes to get 5 points. My skill level is 430 as of writing this post.
I might be wrong, it might have just been a fluke, but it was such a pronounced increase that I suspect there's something else going on here.
For those people wanting some current information:
I just leveled 4 (lvl 53) Hordes from 350 to 425. Two were on Drak'thul and two were on Shandris. Each used 5-100 add lures and 4-75 add lures, in that order, keeping the skill level between 450 and 500. All four were fished at the same spot in Feralas. Each toon took 1.5 hours and caught 300 items. That's an average of 4 catches per skill, not the old tried and true number of 12.5 average (11 to 14).
At least here, Blizz has nerfed MY fishing by 68%, from 281 minutes to just 90.
GREAT JOB, BLIZZ.
Another way i would advise fishing is to put WoW in windows mode, shrink it and then put it on the side and open a youtube video but afterward make ur WoW the main screen and just click the fishing bob when there is a catch.
Youtube doesn't require the screen to be the main to have sound but WoW does so you can watch whatever you want while just click the bob when the sound appears
Why can I not see any fishing dailies available in Undercity? Is it something based off of reputation? I have all the fishing dailies done for Thunder Bluff and Org, but I cannot seem to find any available in Undercity. Any clues or ideas?
What's unfortunate about the fishing profession is that higher skill levels have zero affect on your casting accuracy when harvesting schools of fish. It's a bit ridiculous on occassion when you can cast 10 times before landing your bobber in the school, even though you're an Illustrious Grand Master fisherman.
A good paring for fishing is to advance cooking at the same time. It makes both less tedious as you will be searching the specific fishing spots and recipes to advance both. Talk to fishing supply/trainer NPCs as they usually have good recipes and keep your cooking training up to date.
Also don't forget to fish the pools. You can catch some good fish and other things. The chance of catching the rare fish is greater also in the pools and you can target specific fish based on the pool name. The debris are even better as you can fish up an assortment of containers that can be very profitable with what they contain. Some fish are used by alchemists such as
And don't forget your dailies. They are a good source of xp and cash. I don't play horde so I am unfamiliar with their dailies but you can earn good pocket change and xp in Stormwind, Darnassus and Ironforge. In addition you can get 3 achievements out of it if you complete the 5 different dailies in each area.
Ok, forget what I said above. Blizzard is now giving away cooking and fishing. Just get to 85 (or 86 to be safe) and go to the Valley of the Four Winds, specifically Halfhill. There you can fish up lots of carp to get your fishing up which can then be used to do the basic Pandarin cooking to get to 525 cooking. There is a new fishing trainer to the east by the bridge and a cooking trainer by the market.
Instead of taking the mind-numbing route of repetitive clicking and looting, I have instead opted to boost my fishing skill with various items. Here is an exhaustive list of the items obtainable to raise one's fishing skill. These items have come from the WoWHead database and then sorted into categories according to purpose.
Items are sorted from lowest fishing skill given to highest fishing skill given.

Since patch 5.0.4 fishing has received 2 changes I have noticed so far.
1. Progress bar on your cast is gone. Meaning you can no longer predict a bob incoming in those last few seconds. Unless you pay close attention to every cast you do.
2. There is now a chance (seems it's a low one) that your cast won't result in a bob.
apparently, fishing pole no longer required. or its bugged.
With patch 5.0.4 u dont need fishing pole equiped or even having it in bag, but make sure u use new fishing skill from spellbook, old at bar is from cata and wont show cast and have different range( old 10-20y, new 5y).
For anyone looking for a fishing trainer within the Pandaren starting zone, there isn't one (nor first aid or cooking). In the Bliz beta forums there was some discussion about this. Seems it was by design, because of the way their respective achievements work and how the dailies are tied to a faction. There are primary profession trainers in the starting zone and plenty of farming nodes (herbs and mines). When complete the starting zone quests and reach a minimum level 10 (usually 11 or 12 by then) you choose a faction and are immediately transferred to the capital city of the faction you choose.
Fishing may be the most tedious profession in wow. It's discouraging leveling it up especially when catching multiple greys (even with lures sometimes) and the Dalaran Daily with it's terribad drop rate doesn't make it any better.
So I've devised a game which makes fishing less wait and a little more active.
1) Set Camera following style to "Never Adjust Camera" (if you don't already have it)
3) Adjust camera angle to be placed as close to the lure as possible (Try to fill up the whole screen if you can)
4) The more of the screen you cover with the lure, the more points you get (100% of the screen gives you 100 points, 75%=75 pts, and so on)
I play this with my gf when we have to fish. Before I knew it, I gained another 75 points or so and it didn't seem as long as it normally did.
Would be cool if they added an equipment-slot for fishing poles in the "profession tab".
They could use the same spot under `
` as the `
` under `
To simplify the changes from MOP:
1. You don't need a fishing pole to fish. Correct me if I am wrong, but you do need to equip the ones that have the skill enhancements to benefit.
2. Even if your fishing level is 1, you can fish from pools anywhere with a 100% accuracy; that is labeled schools of fish.
*This also limits you from catching fish like Golden Carp that only spawn in regular waters in Pandaria. Still this is good news to people trying level up Pandaren Cooking fast and get Tiller's rep. I have also found that players will trade cooked fish dishes or pool fishes (like Salmon or Lungfish) for Golden Carp.
3. If you are a monk, you can fish while you are using Glyph of Zen Flight which is soo lovely. In fact you can do Archaeology and Herbalism with it as well.
Fishing is a passion, which helps me, refresh my mind and keeps me healthy.
Seems that 580-600 will take approx 11 casts per level
just got the 500 fish achivement so far im at skill 317
is there a list of fish, and the lvls you need to catch them anywhere?
I think that with Mists fishing has changed so you can't hear other people getting a bite anymore. I was watching TV and fishing in the Dalaran fountain with 4 other people at the same time, not watching my bobber. Whenever I heard a splash I clicked the lure and I got my catch. I never heard anyone else's lure splashing, only saw their animation. Seems like it's much safer to multitask whilst fishing now.
I am enjoying the fact that since MoP came out we no longer need fishing poles, which means an extra bag space, makes life easier in some ways for those of us that are hoarders, and don't like to leave a fishing spot often because we are full(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##hatman555##DELIM##
I was fishing in Orgrimmar just now and caught a Medicine Staff of the Monkey my first cast. Is that normal? I've been fishing for a long time and the only other gear item I've caught was the one ring.
Hi all. Just back in game. Noticed despited being level 88 my fishing is 1. Yes 1. I took daily fishing in stormwind. Thundering falls Bought pole. equipped pole. Made hot key for fishing. Nothing works. On my other character same quest same spot work only he is 450 fishinig.. any help appreciated thanks, joe
I think that creators should add more BoE mounts and companions for fishing profession .
Fishing may not be a very useful profession, but it sure as hell brings back old memories. But then again, most things in WoW bring back old memories :/
The Zen Master training is not available for any of my characters. One account is 525/525 and I gain no skills when fishing but there is nothing available in the trainer list.
I hope this is of some use to people, here is a wowhead compare of all the items required for ultimate fishing swag for all the collectors out there!
I would like to know if the level of fishing you are or the area your in matters for catching certain fish?
Skilling up Fishing from 525-600 I traveled in the Jade Forest from Serpent's Heart up the river and back. Only fishing in Jade Lungfish Schools.
408 Jade Lungfish
23 Sealed Crates
1 Tiny Green Carp
1 Flying Tiger Gourami
433 Casts x ~15 Seconds to Catch = 1 hour 50 Minutes Casting to Catching Fish.
This doesn't include the time it takes to fly from pool to pool.
But if your standing in one spot it should take about 1 hour 50 minutes from 525-600.
If you like living your life, dont expect you will still like it after all of your casts go a full circle around the fishing pool.
Now! Someone must be looking for a macro like this so I'm just going to post it. Took me a while to write it.
This macro lets you gut ALL the fish fished from draenor:
/use Crescent Saberfish
/use Small Crescent Saberfish
/use Enormous Crescent Saberfish
/use Blind Lake Sturgeon
/use Enormous Blind Lake Sturgeon
/use Small Blind Lake Sturgeon
/use Small Sea Scorpion
/use Sea Scorpion
/use Enormous Sea Scorpion
/use Small Jawless Skulker
/use Jawless Skulker
/use Enormour Jawless Skulker
/use Small Fire Ammonite
/use Fire Ammonite
/use Enormous Fire Ammonite
/use Small Abyssal Gulper Eel
/use Abyssal Gulper Eel
/use Enormous Abyssal Gulper Eel
/use Small Blackwater Whiptail
/use Blackwater Whiptail
/use Enormous Blackwater Whiptail
/use Small Fat Sleeper
/use Fat Sleeper
/use Enormous Fat Sleeper
The following macro will cut all WoD "normal" and "enormous" fish.
Does using +fishinglevel boosting items (i.e., Arcanite Fishing Pole)
when your skill is maxed
have any beneficial effect on any aspect of fishing whatsoever?
fishing sometimes slowly kills me soul lol, i wonder if they will update it!
El's Extreme Anglin' site seems to be missing, gone fishing maybe. I found this in the meantime.

My advice if you are looking to level fishing:
If you are willing to take the time to level your fishing up to your max, then there are only two places you should be going. Orgrimmar if you are Horde, and Ironforge if Alliance.
Fishing in these 2 places offers the following:
Trainers to raise your skill cap,
Vendors and mailboxes to free up bag space,
and as a reward for your dedication (if the RNG Gods are liking you) the chance to fish up: Old Crafty in Org., or Old Ironjaw in Ironforge.
Considering how long it sometimes takes to catch either of these fish, and how many times you will be casting your line to raise your skill, it only makes sense to combine the two.
My Demon Hunter is 110 and her fishing skill is 450ish (just trained Grand Master Fisherman) and I noticed that I still had to get to skill level 675 to learn Legion fishing (up to 800). Since I didn't feel like paying for the next 2 or 3 ranks (nor did I feel like having to wait through all the required skill-ups) I went to Draenor and on the first cast in open water, I fished up the Fishing Guide to Draenor, which increased my DH's skill cap to 700. Learning Legion fishing still requires a skill level of at least 675 to purchase.
But apparently, the Draenor fishing scroll still drops for 90+ characters, so go get your free fishing training up to 700!
OK...Maybe someone can tell me where to look for all the cool fishing rods you can get from Nat Page. I'm at Nat Pages Landing and cannot find the quest to fish in four different locations to fish up four different fish that he gives a Fishing Rod For doing. Did they delete that quest ?
Great info in the guide and great info from all the comments Thanks to every one that contributed. It really helped me out I learned some new stuff and was entertained at the same time.Fishing is one thing that i always come back to you can fish and watch tv or a movie at the same time. Good stuff. Thanks again
EDIT: This bug only happens in four classic zones: Winterspring, Un'Goro, Swamp of Sorrows, and Blasted Lands (except for Surwich and The Tainted Forest, which work fine).
EDIT 2: Using a lure, any lure no matter how humble (I'm using the Darkwood Fishing Pole and the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat), is what keeps you around 40-60% for pulling up actual fish. Not using a lure can be a real drag on those numbers.
There's no way to avoid this if you're hunting the Mightfish or Lobster rares, but at least you'll be able to say you didn't get 'em because Blizz nerfed something again.

Fishing post-patch for BfA is now broken (my opinion) by the changes resulting from both skill-level-per-expansion and the stat squish.
. I have no idea why this is happening.
certainly annoying. Good luck out there in Azeroth.
Has anyone figured out how fishing skill ups work post BfA profession squishing thing? Most of my alts are maxed, but one is still in the middle of Northrend fishing. It seems like the only place I can now get skill ups for "Northrend fishing" is in . . . Northrend. Maybe that seems obvious, but I went to Panda and made 30 casts. No skill ups of any kind. Not for Northrend and not for Pandarian fishing, either. I went to Northrend and was able to get skill ups there.
However, the worse thing is that fishing in Darkmoon Faire for the fishing quest seems to require Legion fishing (since Fishing Buddy is telling me my skill is 1 there), but it also wasn't giving me any skill ups to anything. It might be because I haven't unlocked Legion fishing at all, though. I was assuming it was basing it off of my Draenor skill of 1, but I don't know and am very confused and frustrated with this new system.
I'm assuming that fishing in Draenor will give me Draenor skill ups and fishing in Legion will give me Legion skill ups, but for anything pre-WoD, it looks like you can fish until you're blue in the face in a zone that is higher than your skill and never get skill ups of any kind for anything. I think I remember Vanilla fishing being kind of like this, but it's been a while and I can't remember for sure. It just feels broken, IMO.
The maximum bonus Fishing skill for Battle for Azeroth is +78, however, only +68 is practical, as you can not use the

Just started the Kul Tiran Human, and while waiting between dungeons, I fish in Boralus. Of cource I don't get any skill, but I catch a lot of fish. You would believe that a Kul Tiran Human already had the skill in fishing where they grew up.
Hope they fix this, it's just not logical.
