How annoying the two fishing requirements (for 20
Submarine Tar
and
Garbage Fishing
to get the
Waxy Reeds
) directly depends on your character's race. Different races get different boats, and it's a lot easier with the small rowboat that humans get or the canoe that tauren get than it is with the riverboat that goblins and gnomes get, for example, as some of the larger boats have a bow that actually blocks your fishing bobber when you cast. (It can be done, just turn your boat to the side after you cast.)

Thousand Boat Bash is a mico-holiday event that takes place June 6-8 in the Thousand Needles on Kalimdor. The quests scale to your level.
The theme of the event is that a number of people have gathered in the Thousand Needles to celebrate Boat Day! But there are a few problems. No worries, problem solving is your thing, right?
If you open the map of the zone, you'll see the world quest
available, near Fizzle and Pozzik's Speedbarge. This is where you head to start things off. A quick way to get to Thousand Needles is to use the Uldum portal in Stormwind/Orgrimmar and fly up from there.
Once you enter the area, a message will pop up letting you know you have a free boat for the day, which casts the spell
Boat Day
on you. Just land in the water, jump up and your boat will spawn, allowing to speed around the area. Or you could fly, but that's missing out on the spirit of Boat Day!
Note: All the ships have rope ladders on the side that you can click to board them.
This quest basically requires you to visit a few different NPCs in order around the area. Each time you arrive at one, they will have a few lines of Boat Day related dialogue and the quest objective will update with the next NPC. In order they are:
1.
Fizzle
and
Pozzik
are in the cabin at the back of the Speedbarge. They have a few lines of chat about stealing bombs and name calling (on BOAT DAY, of all days!)
2.
Tu-Luak
, on the giant turtles, almost directly north of the speedbarge. He just wants to play volleyball but is distracted by the build up of party litter.
3.
Theldurin the Lost
on a floating raft, south-eastish of Tu-Luak. Somehow, he forgot to bring ale!
4.
Ilthine Sunsong
on a red, blood-elf boat pretty much directly south of Theldurin. She just wants to party it seems.
Once you've visited all 4 the quest will auto complete and 4 world quests will become available to help each of the NPCs with their issues, each rewards a boat part that will go towards building your final reward. You'll be able to see them all on the zone map:
For me this was automatically given as the active quest. All 3 items needed are dropped by NPCs, there is one on each of the 3 horde type boats in the area. The
Enormous Crate of Tiny Bombs
is dropped by
Sally Boom
; the
Party Dynamite
by
First Mate Billwix
and the
Nagrand Cherry-Bomb
by
Grongo
.
Reward:
桅杆
The party boats around Ilthine all have a beach ball in the middle. Click on it to send it up in the air, then stand underneath it as it falls to bounce it up again. 10 times and you're done. The position you connect with the ball does effect the direction it bounces, to make sure to keep it away from going in the water. I found as long as I used the camera overhead, looking directly down, this was pretty easy.
Rewards:
主帆
Everything is on the 3 pirate ships in the quest area. The southsea sailors drop the Flagons of Doublerum, the Tankards of Grog are clickable items scattered around 2 of the ships and the Keg of Pirate Ale is on the 3rd, near the main mast.
Rewards:
操纵绳
You do need to have learned
Fishing
to do this quest, but any skill should be sufficient and you can fish from your free boat to make it easy. You just need to fish up various grey items (like
Old Skull
) from the
Floating Garbage
pools around the Turtles.
Reward:
上蜡芦杆
Also, you will need to fish
up 20
潜艇焦油
from
Submarine Tar
pools left behind by the big goblin submarine patrolling the area. The pools appear behind the submarine quite regularly, often in multiples. They last for about a minute before despawning, so just fish as many Tars as you can from each and chase the submarine again.
Note: Occasionally a pool seems to spawn below the surface, noticable by a darker center, and appears/disappears as you move around it. It's easiest just to ignore these and move on to the next spawn.
Once you have all the parts, you can combine them to create the final reward for this micro-holiday:
Small Boat
. Using this (it is NOT consumed) grants the 10 minute buff
Boating
which can be used on any continent, including the Broken Isles. Enjoy!

If like me you're not that thrilled about the item you get, here's another challenge you can focus on: glitching inside the submarine without getting teleported out.
The way I managed to do it is flying on a small mount one or two meters above sea level, in front of the sub, but off to the side. when inside dismount when you're above a copper tube (left or right, doesn't matter which side you pick) and as long as you don't get off the tube you'll stay inside the ship. there isn't anything to do inside but it's something i really wanted to do while doing the world quests during hte event.

Personally I was non-plussed by this Holiday. It sucks.

Regarding the part where different races spawn different boats, it would be definitely more interesting to have a Suramar
Gondola
for Nightbornes instead of a common boat... Disappointed.

The item we get with this event is seriously awesome. Very usefull in Kul Tiras, sometimes quicker than taking a flight.
Wish it were permanent...

Anyone knows what happens when you get the 20 boats together and start a boat party?

For those wondering, none of the Allied Races have their own unique boat for the event. Highmountain Tauren use the same canoe that regular Tauren use, Mag'har Orcs use the same as normal Orcs, and Dark Iron Dwarves use the same as normal Dwarves. The most disappointing however is that Nightborne, Void Elves, Lightforged Draenei and even Zandalari Trolls and Kul Tiran Humans just use a generic wooden boat. It's the same boat that Humans and Dwarves use but whereas Humans have an Alliance flag and Dwarves have a keg attached, the boat these races use have zero extra flair.

This is pretty much the epitome of 'meh' with micro holidays. My server is a med. pop. and yet, the whole area was completely empty, even with all the servers we're merged with. No alliance, no horde, no one save for me (I've been there for about 15mins flying around while writing this). The problem with micro holidays is that everyone expects to get something for doing it, that's literally what Blizz designed the game to be. Is it a form of entitlement? Yes, but when you've been conditioned to expect something for doing something for almost two decades and suddenly they throw something at you that has no rewards, why would anyone do it?
I see events like the AH dance party, the Sporegar event, Pirate's Day, and Trial of Style doing well because you get some sense of accomplishment and fun. Running around on a boat in the water when you can already fly makes no sense and the event itself doesn't add anything that isn't already seen throughout the game.
I'm not sure what they could add to make it better or more engaging that isn't going to deviate from what they were planning (which was small events that didn't take a lot of time to put together). I will say it would have at least been neat to have the allied race's boats there too, but I think blizz has abandoned updating micro holidays.
I'm personally not trying to bash the event or the implementation, I give them props for at least trying to give some kind of content, but this is one of the many that just makes no sense. I mean, at least I went there to check it out, so I suppose it's working to an extent.
I guess one of the pluses could be that you can swim around during the event and see the raceway ruins... though if you've done the questing in this area, you've seen them already. I also find it odd that there is a friendly "high elf" race with boats right next to the blood elves who show up as neutral to alliance. There is a gnome on a night elf boat, but no night elves. There is a goblin captain on an orc boat which is hostile. There might be similar things with horde, but I didn't go look.
Even the NPC's are bored. Tu-Luak on the Tuskar "boat" says: <Sigh>... I was hoping to play some volleyball, too...
I think that pretty much sums up micro holidays.
