I'd like to take this moment to thank the Death Knight class for, at least for a while, focusing the QQ off of us rogues.
Death Knights are a very unique damage-dealing class in that their damage is dealt by both melee abilities
They're as unique as enhancement shaman! Oh, wait...
we start with First Aid because many people lvling other classes wud have first aid at this level, thus for equality we get it (same reason we get a good set of blues for outland)
So you're a Death Knight that just got to level 80, what now?
Well, the first place you should be looking for in order to get some new gear is these three instances:
The forge of Souls
Pit of Saron
Halls of Reflection
And here are two lists of items "sets" you should try to get:
Note that as Frost (No matter whether you're Tanking or DPSing), you need to get two One-handed weapons, while as Blood or Unholy you need to get one Two-handed weapons.
On both lists, the first column is the main "set" while the second one are some alternative items.
For a DK, the stat values really depend on your build. In general however....
Strength > Stamina > Hit (until cap.... which depends on if you use 2H or DW) > Expertise (until cap) > armor penetration / crit / haste (depending on your build) > agility
Agility moves up higher for a DK tank in this case. The above is
generalized for a DK
A lot of the dps armor has hit built into it so getting to the hit cap is generally less of an issue. The expertise cap
be a bit trickier. As for hit though, I frequently see a 2H DK with 300+ hit and in some cases, up to 500. In those cases, I'm usually helping them lower their hit rating to try and get other damage producing stats increased. As for stamina, it'll never hurt a DK to have extra stamina as you will be up close and getting personal with mobs. You can't tank if you're dead.... and your dps automatically drops to zero if you die. So..... bear that in mind.
One of the coolest things about DK's is the amount of options you have for dps'ing or tanking. The downside is, you really need to spend a little time planning out a build for effectiveness as you can get considerable dps or performance increases by shifting stats and talents even a slight amount. good starting place, but not the end all be all
You really need to have a goal in mind when assembling your gearsets

I take that back. I don't agree.
1) With Blood.... ArPen is not always greater than Str. Much of the gear comes with ArPen on it and there are limits to the effectiveness of ArPen. Without an amply amount of strength/attack power, your hits simply aren't going to be all they could be. The two work in tandem. It doesn't hurt to have gear with more armor penetration, but by and large, you'll see blood dps gemming for strength.
2) Unholy depends largely on the build you have and gear. ArPen
became more useful
with 3.3.3 due to changes to Scourge Strike, but if you have a frost sub-build, you get more out of haste. (
Which is made even more interesting in that you've gemmed for Strength and not ArPen
3) Hit and expertise are critical due to DW. Then Str > ArPen > Crit/Haste/Agi. As for Glyph of Disease versus Icy Touch, Glyph of Disease makes sense with 3.3.3. Glyph of Icy Touch used to be considered the third best, but with changes to Glyph of Disease in 3.3.3, you'll want to run dual disease on Frost dps.
Dps is pretty simple by and large. Kind of a one way street. Increase damage output. You have raw numbers here that will show you if you're more effective or not. The feel of a build is still important as if it feels awkward you'll never perform to the best of your ability. But in general, Strength and ArPen will never hurt for any dps build.
As for tanking............ a
generalized stat weight would be
Defense (to the soft defense cap, which is presently 540 for raids in WotLK) > Stamina > Expertise > Hit > Strength > Agility > Dodge and/or Parry
Armor, can't really gem for that and any DK tank is going to upgrade for armor when they can. And let's face it,
you are going to use plate armor if you're tanking
. You can use various trinks as needed to increase armor, but that is situational. Defense plate typically has stats and armor geared for the purpose. You generally won't want to use dps gear unless it does not affect your survival.
Expertise and Hit are important for threat generation. You
get by under hit cap if you are at expertise cap. Main thing here is, managing your threat. If you're not hitting, you are losing threat.
Strength affects attack power which affects everything you do for threat generation. Attack power increases damage output for spells/abilities for DK's so an increase in attack power will equal greater threat. Strength also increases your parry rating. Trust me, if you don't have enough attack power, no amount of hit or expertise will make up for the poor threat generation when you have mages/warlocks cranking out 10k+ hits.
Agility is a good stat if you can find it on gear as it increases your armor, increases dodge, and improves your crit.
After that, dodge and parry can be both valuable. You'll get it on a lot of your armor sets.
Tanking is a balancing act. It's
In tanking, you need to balance two things: survival and threat. Survival depends on defense, stamina, armor, agility, dodge, and parry (in that order pretty much). Threat depends on attack power/strength, expertise, and hit. Balancing both sides of this is the trick. A lot of survival stats are great, but if you can't hold threat, you fail as a tank. The flip side of that coin is, if you can't survive the threat you generate, you fail also.
You are going to have to tinker with your build and gear to make a tank that plays well for you. You have to find the balance that works for you and your group.
One last caveat......
All of this changes once Cataclysm hits.
I think you should add that some of a Death Knight's abilities become even stronger when diseases are active.
Frost DW DPS w/ Glyph of Icy Touch:
Hit to 5% cap > Str > Expertise/Armor Pen > Crit/Haste > Agi
This was correct with 3.3.2. It is no longer correct with 3.3.3. Please refer to the Elitist Jerks forum where, quote:

The argument itself is somewhat pointless, as most tank gear will have more armor than matching dps gear. Additionally, tank gear will usually have defense, dodge, parry, or block on it. Additionally, most tank gear will also have strength and stamina stats native to the gear. As a tank, you want to be aware of the following caps, as they are targets for your effectiveness.
Defense: Currently 540 for uncrittable in Icecrown Citadel and the other Northrend raid instances
Expertise: Currently 26 to eliminate a level 83 mob's ability to dodge, parry, or block an attack
Hit: Currently 276 to eliminate the inherent 8% miss on a level 83 mob
The other poster, Archangel, is correct regarding Strength as being the foundation for a Death Knight's attack power and the impact which it has upon their abilities and threat levels.
I recommend TankSpot for further guidance regarding Death Knight tanking.
Also, each death knight talent tree provides decent synergy -- you will usually have one of each class in 25 mans.
Ebon Plaguebringer; its only applied once, and that means only one Unholy death knight can have it, meaning having two Unholy death knights is very unwise, reducing one's DPS by quite a bit. However, to frost and blood death knights, the extra disease damage applies to their diseases, just like the extra magic damage does to spell casters (and maybe DK's death coil too?). Blood's extra attack power benefits every talent tree, and Frost has some uses, such as increasing a death knight's damage when all their runes are on CD, or even GCD (this is also maximizes the use of the 4 piece t10 set).

Hi Hi don't even ask yes i'm a guy. Anyways for the most part since dks when live mine as for the most part always been a tank. At first it was rough the gear at our disposal wasn't the greatest and the talent builds for tanking were kinda bad to say the least. i do like how the talents flow now but it's saddens me i'll have to be a comformist come cata. i really did enjoy having my own spec something unique to me for my use not some copypasta print out. granted blood has self healing but to be honest i prefer frost dw tanking over it immensly becuase for 3 very good reasons
1. very few raids on my server have decently geared enhancment shamans
2. quite a few blood dk for abombs might
3. while i have no rotation anymore i outthreat pallies higher geared then me becuase of just about inf. rp resulting in spaming rune strike and spaming icy touch when killing machine procs coupled with the longer durations for your cds i just prefer frost tanking over blood and i will deeply miss it
before you start calling me a noob mind you i'm a icc most 25 geared tank 4 part sanc tanking gear so yes trust me i know what i'm doing link to my armory page :D
EDIT: both my specs are tanking specs i prefer to use my blood spec for soloing more then for live raiding so if you see the axe of culling there instead of my twins i was probably in bwl farming for my thunderfury

But how do you retcon in goblins and worgen death knights? These are races joining the fray after the events of Wrath. You can't really say that after all that hullabaloo in Icecrown Citadel we had all this stuff happen with Gilneas and Kezan and somehow we have the Lich King raising the new guys as death knights, even though that can't possibly be the case, given what happened at Icecrown before they even joined, and... my head hurts.
What exactly is it that makes Death Knights "Hero" class?
Its seems that you dont need a lvl 55 anymore . My bro has making a DK on a new serverwithout any of my chars on. And my other bro makes a DK on a server he played but without a lvl 55. Mayby you can make it if you have a lvl 55 or higher on your account. Correct me if i'm wrong.
I'm not sure how DK's ability to deal melee and spell damage is "very unique" considering that shamans, paladins, and also technically rogues also do the very same thing. That comment should honestly be deleted.
Also, to the previous poster, what patch exactly DIDN'T Deathknights get nerfed on? They have been beaten down every single patch since they were released and are now a poor shadow of themselves, of course Paladins are still as OP as ever though. Looks like Blizzard really views Pally's as the true "Hero Class".
ok this it pissing me off when i look for new trinkets for improving my death knight for unholy dps i keep getting items that give spell power. i know that some abilities (like death coil) use spell power but is there really a reason to get any besides a little increased damage from an ability that is not used much. but i digress, i think that blizz should just change it so that the death knight spell damage to scale with attack power or strength cuz its just stupid that a primarily melee dps class should look for spell power for increased damage for one spell.

The Theory of a Death Knight
well, nao in this 31point talent trees we're getting nerfed, i think a mass QQ and flame in forums will do great, no? builds are stupidily restrictive: frost dps can't get Necrosis, is you wanna get your disease time increased you'll lose scent of bloos or blood-caked strike. unholy and frost can´t get Thoughness. and wtf? frsot get a 2h talent = MotFW? sudden doom is not longer launching the deathcoil instantly?
while pala is getting more OP: pet, holy power, useful talents.
It comes with the territory that many people will think DK's are noobs, simply because getting to 55 was easy (cake now) so everyone and their mothers are coming in with new DK's not doing any research on how to tank or even how to play the classes. Which makes me believe people don't know about either google or youtube, either way people should definitely take a step back and read...even if it hurts. I'm not saying be the highest in arena, but learn a little about your class.
As for DK's themselves, I've tanked heroics no problem, I'm used to being a bear tank (no shield) so it's not a big deal. I've seen many other DK's tank just fine, so in many cases, its who you get, respectively , I 've seen bad Warriors and Paladins tank.
In the end, Haters gonna hate.
I love playing as a DK, but some really big noobs make the class look terrible. It's not the class that's bad, it's some people that play as it.
Dk tanking can be a hoot, if you have the patience for it. As a Blood specced tank with 1/1 Rune Tap, 3/3 Improved Rune Tap, Vampiric Touch, Black Heart, and Ick-and-Crick's Rotting Thumb, I can weather through almost any healer. 8-9k heals from Death Strike with 2 diseases, 11k heals with Rune Tap, and life saving 24k BH-I&CRT-VB-Raise Dead-Death Pact heals.......and I'm in tier 9-9.25 gear.
Is it just me or does the new rune system means that without TONS of haste, we'll be sitting on TONS of unused global cooldowns? (Unless if the rune recovery increase and the GCD decrease are balanced, so we just have TONS of short unused GCDs). Can anyone in the beta give us a clue to how it works out?
P.S.: The most badass-looking thing i've worn on my dk's head? The starter piece. Yes, the hood. And just to my bad luck, my bro's paladin gets a hood as T10 piece. 2 things have pissed me off, the lack of high-end hoods for us and Frostscythe of Lord Ahune being a staff rather than polearm, meaning we can't equip it. This kind of loot should be uncategorised (see "the fire extinguisher").
A death Knight is not a hero class because he is lvl 55 but rather - he is lvl 55 because he is a hero class - see the difference? Also he is a hero class because he begins as one of the bad guys (Scourge) and because he has one hell of a quest chain that tells you the story by making you take part in it.
Death knight PvE and leveling (imo) is fun and easy when blood ,you can solo most elites hence the self heal.
But very very (20xVery)sadly blood is not that successful in PvP. Why? Blood deals majorly Physical dmg(gets mitigated by armor+resilience) and can hardly take out a large chunk out of plate wearers Hp bar.
Unholy and Frost on the other hand have strong elemental dmg (passes through armor , but still gets reduced by resilience).
Unholy is based on shadow magic diseases and controlling minions.This spec's dps is sorta like 40%from diseases ,ghoul and other passives and 60%from the push of a buton(on-demand abilities like strikes and deathcoil)
Frost is focused on ripping the opponent to shreds by yourself (no minions and minor disease dmg , but with great bonuses to strikes and abilities) . I consider this the more "lone-wolf" playstyle build ,whilst unholy is something like a mastermind. :D
Blood is not as ofensive as frost but it sustains itself alot better( Unholy's 3rd disease and blood's Improoved Death strike are the only ways of making Death strike heal the most , blood will still heal slightly more with improoved blood presence in 3.3.5)

Hey! I want to know if, on Cataclysm, a Frost Death Knight can use a 2H weapon like "Shadowmourne"because of "Icy Talons" and "Might of The Frozen Wastes (Rank 3)". I think a Frost DK is better with a 2H weapon because he have attack speed grown with 20% and if you attack with a 2H weapon you have a 45% chance to get 10 runic power.
2H weapon + Icy Talons + Improved Icy Talons = Big Damage and rapid attacks (this is my opinion :):):):D)

Rune regen definitely feels too slow. I also find myself just standing there passively tanking in instances. DPS seems right on though (at least it's in accord with the rest of the classes), but oh boy I'd prefer faster rune regen and lower damage on the abilities to even it out.
Dont even consider rolling DW frost when you hit Outlands... With 4.0.1 Blizzard really, really, REALLY gimped the overall performance to ridiculously low levels, due to:
1. You wont get a reliable Threat of Thassarian until lvl 63. (Abilities hit with both weapons)
2. You wont get Howling Blast until lvl 69 (Your only good AoE spell, blood has survivability/bloodboil and Unholy has Imp. DnD/Imp. Diseases.)
3. You are dual-wielding, giving you a very high miss chance. The 20% AS passive merely makes up for this, as opposed to Unholy death knights 15%+ str and ghoul pet / Blood death knights 9% more sta and 6 expertise. (Don't view Icy Talons as a buff unless you are going to use a two-hander.)
(4. As a DW frost DK, consider running away from other DKs, as they will kill you if they don't suck alot. (Forget DK vs DK duels))
5. Unless you buy the pretty crappy axes/swords for ~ 35g each, you wont get an useful weapon until atleast after HFP. The weapons mentioned requires you to be honored with HH/Thrallmar (Weapons? What weapons?)
6. You have the worst overall survivability of all the speccs, due to not having a single straightly defensive ability / talent. (Chillblains Could be considered defensive, but do you always have the room to kite things around?)
And finally, a question, how does Icy Talons stack with Improved Icy Talons?

Okay, need a little help for OWNAGE.... I am a Unholy DK with Frost as my other spec.... With an Unholy Spec was is a great rotation to have the most damage, because right now I have no Idea and I am only getting 3.5K with a 4.8K gear score. I have some great pieces....

So whos agrreing with me that blizzard destroyed the DK? destroyed my playstyle with the death knight, im so pissed, Im not moving to Cataclysm.
First of all: Blood talent was the highest DPS tree with a potential to survivability. while frost would mostly minimize dmg taken and Unholy be more of an AoE assist. now what do they do? they make all the new DPS have not much survivability and the now tank has skills to heal him, BUT WHAT FOR IF HE ALREADY MINIMIZES THE DMG? though his dmg now isnt so high.
Blizzard should focus not on making a tank tree and DPS tree and all that, but making many ways for creative playstyles, and cataclysm just did the opposite.

Okay! Having some thoughts on my Frost PvP. I've got my frost tree tailored to my needs and wants and desires, but i can't decide on whether or not to get Resilient Infection Talent, so that way i get more runes from howling blast(glyphed) thus more runic power. However that's not a constant and reliable source... healers may decide not to dispell.
To go for Scent Of Blood. In PvP i'm getting hit almost constantly, so there's a very high chance of being able to keep that up with 2 points into the talent. With this talent i'll be able to Frost Strike more which means i MAY be able to use Howling Blast more.
I dont know how people can complain about DK tanking changes. Imho it has only been changed for the better. The survivability has been raised, the threat is better and even though it seems to lack the AoE we used to have, if used right, there wont be a need for DnD to be down every 10 seconds. I'm perfectly happy with the changes.
My favorite thing about it all...
. It is an awesome tool for any tank and makes the healer's job a bit simpler, granted that is if the tank knows what they are doing.

Hey, I just recently made a Worgen DK and while I was doing the final quest from the Lich King, the one where you mount up on the frost wyrm, something really weird happened. My worgen character has been doing the /roar sound effect and motion since I mounted up on the frost wyrm and I was curious to see if anybody else has been having this problem. Like, does anyone know if it's a glitch or if Blizzard actually created it to do that? Either way, I'm about ready to gouge my eardrums out because, while it was ok for the first few roars, it gets tiring to hear every 3 seconds (literally). So, yea, any information would be of great appriciation. Thank you.
I dont like the new DK talents i miss blood dps
I'm an unholy DK and am confused as to what stats I need to be focusing on. With the new gear I dont know if I should be picking mastery over crit and when changing out gear should I make sure my DPS is going up above all or make sure my strength and other stats are increasing. I love my DK, I have long been a believer that just to keep with the lore, Blizz should have made the player creating the DK, sacrifice at Toon at the 55+ level. I believe that would have filtered out a bunch of the crappy DK players, and only the players really wanting a DK to make them. As far as the New Talent Tree's. I like the simplification, however wished they had stayed with the tradition Frost as the Tanking Spec, or No Specific Tank spec at all.
I think we should all kill Arthas when we pretend to help him as a deathknight and stab him in the back and burn his body to get a early kingslayer title Shazam!

I certainly enjoyed having 3 tank trees at my disposal, but moving tanking to one tree has certainly simplified things.
Unfortunately there are way too many bad DK's that end up creating the stigma that the rest of us are sub-par tanks.
I think that in cata they should of added another class at lvl 60 so WotLK and Cata are equal

I think Death Knigh is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills people and stuff and doesn’t afraid of Lich King.
Most of the hate aimed at DKs is due to the smaller levelling requirements for the class. Essentially, it is the end-game tank that requires the least amount of time to get to max level. Most people assume that also means players don't get enough time to figure out how to tank with it, and that is, sadly, more often true than not.
Well DK have to go through the same as other classes, and with those heirlooms is lvling from 1-60 easy and fast as hell people can do it in 3 days gaming time, and in outland gear is coming closer to heirlooms so people shouldn't complain so much cause DK's are playing only the harder part of lvling.
and they do have some very nice skills like dark simulacrum and the fact that they are the second class who can battle ress what is very nice in raiding. If you miss a druid, you would miss a vital class now you got 2 options (same as shaman and mage with bloodlust/heroism/timewarp).
So just dont be hard for them cause they can be very fun and usefull :)
Death Knights have very short cooldowns on pretty much all of their abilities, so mapping certain attack spells to Q, E, R, D, or C on your keyboard while playing as a DK pretty much turns WoW into an Action-RPG.
Here's a question: What is are good professions for dk's to take? They have to deal with the added wrinkle of being nearly a level 60 without any points in any professions (other than first aid). Any professions that can help compensate for this?

Death Knights get a lot of disrespect from players for a couple of reasons.
resentment at the fact they start at level 55 from the get-go, and will be introduced into the main playing realm at 58. Some players (in particular the 'elitist' ones) believe you should have 'earned' your level through days of grinding, and that this is 'cheating' (oh noes). Others have concerns about the fighting/playing prowess of Death Knights, since the abilities are introduced almost all at once rather than periodically, limiting the practice or the experience the player has to set a good rotation.
the Death Knight class is 'unlocked' from possessing a high-level toon - but that toon can be any race, any class, any spec. This can lead to DPSs or healers making Death Knights - a class they have yet to fully learn - and getting introduced to tanking at a stage where other classes are already 'settled' into their roles, performing at a sub-par level, comparatively. And many
take this opportunity to start tanking, since tanks generally have the shortest dungeon queues. Players that are already familiar with tanking and what it entails are still likely to encounter flak and poor expectations because of this, so get ready to prove the naysayers wrong!
However, Death Knights are still a powerful, versatile yet resilient, and fun class to play - they just get a lot of QQ from other players. To believe they are weak, underpowered, or 'squishy' would be a mistake.
...and at the very least, you could make one only to turn it into a fast-made profession slave...
EDIT: As an additional addendum, I want to to add the point that no, Death Knights are not overpowered, either. Merely being beaten by a player of any given class does not automatically make said class overpowered, and such claims are generally grouped with the above mentioned QQ.

Hi everyone.. I have a DK tank 85, im tanking using dual weapons both a tanking 1 hand weapon Mace of Transformed Bone & Bloodlord's Protector they have STR , STA , parry and dodge rating + and my runeforge is Rune of the Nerubian Carapace.
Why did i use dual weapons while tanking? Because i cant find 2 hand weapons that have parry or dodge + for tanking.
Now I dont understand why some people are saying DK tank dont use 1 hand weapons you are a bad tank if you do that. Mostly they said i will be more squishee.
I dont understand why, but i thought i been tanking better with dual , maybe im not noticing anything bad. Some said because you only had 30% buffs from the group thats why you thought your a good to tank. Dual wielders DK tank are not good.

There is a mailbox close to DK startig zone, but you still have to do 10 quests before you can reach it. Once you reach q called "The Scarlet Harvest" you will have the option to use a Scourge Gryphon which will take you down the tower. Once you are down go straight forward. When you open your map you can see in upper part of the map a cave, to it's right a tower and to the left 3 houses up from a farm. The mail is placed in north of the farm, to the right of the southest house. Hope this is helpful.
An interesting idea for Death Knights during Mists of Pandaria?
Be able to "tame" (within reason) your own undead skin for use as a pet. heh?
jhoms, when you use dual weapons make sure your armors have a haste rating and you can use a rune of razorice or rune of lichbane because dual weapons are weaker than Two-handed weapons but are faster, because of that you need more haste rating, and with that runes you can add some special damage.
EDIT: I use dual weapons emblazoned with rune of razorice and my armors are with haste rating.

Till now DKs traditionally have been transforming following the next scheme:
Start of the expansion: Death Knight - brings you a death itself. It's unstoppable untill killed. You don't want it even to spot you.
In the midst of expansion: Nerf Knight - Not so dreadful. You can kill him alone.
Later patches: Nerfer Knight. More nerfs. Not a serious opponent, you can safely focus someone else.
End of the expansion: Dead Knight - squishy, weak, pathetic. Oh look, it's dead!

@KingArthis Actually if you played WC2 you would know that DKs originally were more like Mages or Warlocks, than they were in WC3. The Arthas-like DK you know in WC3 is NOTHING like the lich-like DKs from WC2. They ride around on a horse, which would look mostly like the Forsaken's Skeleton Horse, with a long cloak and a really creeping voice, cast spells left and right. Spells like Whirlwind (No not the Warrior version from WoW, it was an actual whirlwind!), raise the dead, give units haste, and more. With no ability to just autoattack, these units were pretty useless without their mana.
So yeah, nothing like the DKs in WoW now. I can only say I prefered the original version. This is just one of many things Blizzard have changed in the WarCraft lore over the years. The reason why it doesn't work, is because they keep changing the past, instead of making the present/future make sense with the current past.

I have played Tauren Warrior PRETBC and a Undead Warlock in TBC.
With the fair pauses in between playing time may i add.
Anyways, those two classes were absolutely enjoyable but i wanted a mix! I wanted a dark warrior!
So in WOTLK when i heard WCIII topper the Death Knight was introduced. I just could not wait to play it.

This class has the darkest feeling to it. I chose to be a Tauren. (Because, hey Death Grip + Stun = Awesome)
And it has never disappointed me. I always had a weak for specs that aren't in use that often because of the
surprise value. So i basically was a stealth cow in frost spec just to get all the DPS goodies. then switched to tanking spec in order to get the Hybrid feeling i was so used too. (this was in cataclysm)

I can not stress this enough, Death Knight is not like a warrior where you absolutely need a certain stat or otherwise you are doomed. No my friends, Death Knights, are, ABSOLUTE BEAASTSSSS.. Blood, Frost who the %^&* cares. If you wanna go hybrid you MUST ^&*!ING DO IT, since you cannot go hybrid by the use of talent points anymore.
I am so happy with this Class, i currently am taking a break from wow. And this might very well be my last message because I disagree on some of the choices of blizzard (Nothing of your worries, personal choice) but as i was playing this class with a long history of dark magic and melee skills behind me. I can, for sure tell you that it is absolutely freaking beast. Now i will not tell my spec or choices that i made inside my character to be able to say this, what i will tell you is that if you keep experimenting, and you have the vision to grab certain items as you journey, the choices are immense. Really really amazing class with almost endless possibilities PVP/PVE wise. And it has become my main class very, very fast.

Dks have very good dps, have minions, can wear plate armor (to reduce damage by 42% and up to 50%
with , and can tank. But the downside is, the cooldowns for the runes is 10 sec, and the dk has self-heal spells such as
is a good self heal combo if you have a lot of runic power. All in all, Dks are somewhat balanced.
Btw, this is coming from a 90 dk himself.

The class for a death-knight, for me it is very fun to play. The very nice thing about this class, is that it starts at level 55 and after you get out of the starting zone, you hop right into burning crusade dungeons:) Another nice thing about being a dk, is that plate armor drops very good in bc dungeons:) Some issues i come up with a death-knight, whenever i'm in a dungeon, I feel that other people have been level up a chareter since level one, and my class, a dk, started at 55, ( that's just my own opinion).

In my opinion it is the classe for Tanking.(if you are blood)
since most (if not all) races are can be death knights, i think you should play your character and then upon reaching lvl 56 be able to choose death knight or continue playing as normal character. but then i am a noob and really haven't played one yet....but it seems to make more sense...then you have a feel of the hero character you were supposed to have been...just my two sense....

Blood Death Knights are in most cases the best class for a DK, with both the ability to withstand large amounts of damage and the ability to heal themselves frequently they are a force to be reckoned with and perfect for both PvE & PvP.

Might be a stupid question, but i was wondering, if it would be good to dualwield has a Unholy Dk...
i mean with fast weapons and the flat out Haste bonus of the Unholy presence, you are constantly hitting stuffs at an indecent rate.
Now there is a few issues with this, and thats what i wanted to ask, when using an attack like Death strike, plaque strike and such, do the dmg of the two weapons be taken into account, or just the main hand weapon?
i ask this because of a silly reason, i would like to dualwield some transmo 1-hands weapons i like, but i don't want to leave my unholy spec.
I tried to take Frost as my second spec, seeing that i don't Tank anyway, but the game just doesn't let me choose a second DPS role it seems(or i did something wrong...).
Would it be worhtwhile, or would it be simply gimping myself?

My Thoughts on Death Knights:
Although I have not played a Death Knight since the days of Wrath I can say that I did love Unholy Death Knights. Back in the Lich King era I had three characters: A Marksman Hunter, An Unholy Death Knight, and a Discipline Priest. I spent most of my time on the Hunter, however, the Death Knight received her fair share of play time especially in PvP.
I plan on rerolling an Unholy Death Knight as soon as I am able to and I am sure that once again that character will rise to the top as one of my favorites. It will have more competition though as I will have eleven characters this time around.
I really like some of the changes they made to Death Knights since the days I had one. I look forward to playing a new Death Knight.
If you just used your 90 boost on your dk, and wonder why Mograine wont talk to you, and want to learn of class abilities, specialization, etc, talt instead to Lord Thorval, on one of the cubicles at same room of Darion (below floor).

, after 2 years of Mists of Pandaria, I can finally claim that the
Frost Death Knight
is the main reason for my continuous subscription in this game.
Prologue: Tracing back to patch 4.0 and being continuously stubborn to try Unholy, a spec that would not really offer me the sheer adrenaline that the old Blood Death Knights were all about, I decided to stick with Frost, giving it a tryout period before deciding which of the two specs I should follow along my path to this unknown exile, now that the Lich King was gone and my Order's retribution complete. After nearly four years of playing almost exclusively in Frost, I would like to extend to my fellow DKs and preach the melancholic beauty and relentless onslaught that I addicted myself to in battlegrounds, arenas and other sorts of PvP practices as a manipulator of the Chill beyond the Grave.
Part 1: PvP background as a Frost DK throughout the expansions
Being a Frost DK in MoP, is just as prestigious as it was back in Wrath. Or back in Cata, for that matter. Which isn't much. Frost has always been overshadowed by Unholy,
especially in Arenas
, mainly due to Unholy's enormous capacity of control on the enemy team with its spread damage and
's capability of draining healers dry. Thus, Frost was always neglected by high ranked players and was mainly left for the less important, yet for many people more enjoyable, Battlegrounds.
It was during Cataclysm that Frost gained more attention with the Rated Battlegrounds, which did add a somehow different approach to PvP. Many DKs, myself included, found out that with Frost, we could combine one of the most entertaining aspects of the game, Burst Damage, with teams combined of various classes and specs that could allow such gameplay to take place. Arenas kept going in the same direction that they have always been headed at, with Unholy becoming the primary spec and Frost the secondary one, so many people focused mostly in RBGs.
Part 2: PvP background as a Frost Dk in present-day MoP patches
--- Being actively playing throughout the entire expansion as a Frost DK, at ratings of 2000 in both 2s-3s-5s arenas and RBGs, therefore any of the following deductions regarding the class are primarily based around this experience ---
With the introduction of MoP and the removal of the old talent trees *sob*, Frost saw little change in its primary way of playing. However, for the first time,
saw some deep, intimate love from the PvP design team, since its damage as opposed to Cataclysm, received a significant boost while wielding a 2 Handed Weapon. Therefore, in RBGs and Arenas, the steady AOE damage of the Dual Wield spec was replaced with the tremendous single-target burst damage of the Two-Handed spec. And for a long time, as long as patch 5.2, Frost DKs were a common site in RBGs and arenas. Until 5.3 boosted the healing absorption of Necros, something that led a massive hysteria (DK joke, can't be the only one recalling it) towards getting Unholies as the main target caller of the RBG and almost wiping out the arena population of Frost DKs. As of now, in 5.4, the chances of seeing a Frost DK in RBG or arena above 2k mmr are just as many as getting a glimpse on Nessy.
Part 3: PvP as a Frost DK in Rated Battlegrounds
--- Due to the variations required in both talents and glyphs, I thought that distinguishing the gameplay between RBGs and Arenas was quite essential ---
For RBGs, maintaining AOE dmg through
is very important. The total output for matches where teams are bound to stay together, like Warsong Gulch and Twin Peaks, can extend even above those of a SPriest or Unholy DK (Ok, ok, Affliction is excluded!) due to HB's instant area of effect damage.
I personally believe that
are by far the best choices for talents. Roiling Blood ends up a huge waste on death runes (
Remember, no blood runes in Frost!
) and Plague Leech is very situation dependent, while the Blight effect allows a cost-free disease spreading during a
pull. Also, while Death's Advance and Asphyxiate can be very useful (situation-dependent again), the fact that Frost DKs get not only 4 runes to use for HB spam, but also the
effect, not to mention the extraordinary peels provided from the immobilizing
, makes Chillblains the most logical choice.
Apart from abilities, a Frost DK is unable to make just as much impact in
as the UH DK, mainly due to the increase of
's cost, which limits both his lvl 75 talent proc chances and thus his overall damage. DKs without their defensive CDs are vulnerable, so what's important for a Frost DK is to keep a constant "Stance Dance" on, being able to switch from Blood to
in a moment's notice if the enemy team switches to him.
Last but not least, keeping reserves in Runic Power can be used to a great extent while counting down to burst a single target. I personally find for that reason
to be more preferable than the other two. While it is a chance based proc, when you boost to full 100/100 RP and then instantly switching on a target, you can first begin with 5 consecutive Frost Strikes, so that even if you can't spam straight out 3 Obliterates, you have a very big chance to trigger a back-to-back proc from RC, which ends up in 4 consecutive Obliterates.
Part 4: PvP as a Frost DK in Arenas
While in RBGs, a Frost DK's HB is very important in order to maintain damage, in 2s and 3s using runes for HB over Obliterate is not required. Instead, the only time for a Frost DK to use HB is through the
procc, or if your target is far away. Also, Chillblains is not necessary, so Asphyxiate can be used to a great extend, like Unholy. However, what's important in arenas for a Frost DK, is to be able to keep constant melee damage and pressure, since allowing a healer or an enemy DPS to escape away (Not sure how people can manage to do this, totally beyond me - maybe because i keep using Chillblains in arenas too?) can prove catastrophic, especially lately with all the increase in healing capacities for most classes. Unlike UH, where small pauses during cc are allowed and not really as important, Frost damage has to be constant in order to prove successful.
In 2s, every DK has to adapt his glyphs and talents according to the team on the opposite site. For 3s, his options start running lower and lower, yet still variable, and for 5s the spec can closely resemble the RBG specs: Unholy Blight-Lichborne-Chillblains and Deathpact (yes,

Another Class that I am really enjoying at the moment. The Death Knight, as for Spec it would be Blood. Honestly feel like I'm a unstoppable force to be reckoned with. As for my favorite Race for this Class, it would be between Orc and Human. One from each Faction. :)
Loving my continued life as a Dk into WoD. Unholy has finally reached a nice stable niche in the groups as well as a comfortable position on the damage meters. I want to clear up some confusion that there seems to be around the web. Currently as of 10 days after launch it seems, stat priorities for Unholy DK DPS is Str>Mastery>=Multistrike> Crit> Vers> Haste. the consensus also being that the lvl 100 talent of choice is defile it seems.

I miss the time when DK has three types of tanking style: Blood being the self-healing, Frost gets aoe, and Unholy is the best magic tank around. It was epic.

Each class in Legion has a long class hall quest chain — campaign. During that chain you'll raise your power and power of your class hall. You'll train followers, gear them, research your artifact and other things. Each class has diferent campaign, only few quests are the same.

ALL races can now be death knights. The lore being, after BFA, so many heroes of the Alliance and Horde were killed fighting each other, that to defend Azeroth from other threats the Ebon Blade enlisted Bolvar's help to raise new death knights. Hence why you now have nightborne, vulpera, dark iron, pandaren, zandalari, etc death knights running around. With the Lich King's power, even worgen and Lightforged can join the fun!
