In version 8.0.1, Conquest is (was) unintended reward for some PvP before beginning of BFA Season 1. This was a bug. At that time, Conquest was unusable because there were no vendors where you could exchange the currency for items. Quote from 17/08/2018 (blue tracker):

With the Battle for Azeroth Pre-Patch, we incurred a bug that caused some PvP activities to reward Conquest. Conquest was never intended to be accessible while the season is not active, and while Conquest did appear for some players on their Character Currency tab, it wasn’t useable. There aren’t any items that can be exchanged for it in-game right now.

We’ll be deploying a hotfix soon that will change any activities that are currently awarding Conquest to award Honor instead.

When BFA Season 1 begins, players will start earning Conquest as planned. At the same time, we’ll convert any unintended Conquest that players earned during the post-season to Honor or gold.

Additionally, new one-time PvP quests will get reset when BFA Season 1 begins. We want to make sure you can complete those quests to earn Conquest from them as intended. These quests are located in the same place where you turn in Conquest quests, so they should be easy to spot.

We apologize for any confusion this may have caused, and we’re working to make the fixes and conversions as seamless as possible.

So, I am currently in survival as loot spec, my ranged is an ilvl 340 遗忘君王十字弓, and according to what I see in game, once I cap my conquest, I'll receive 悚然角斗士的长弓...ilvl 280!

9.1.5 update: this post was originally made for BfA. I've updated it for 9.1.5 SL. The original post can be found in the spoiler at the bottom of the post.

9.1.5 overhaul: post adjusted for SL. In SL, conquest is once again a 'direct loot' currency instead of dealing with the weekly bars that was the system in BfA. Personally, the capping system had its charms but was also plagued by timegating. SL had this originally too by having a Conquest (and Valor) cap, but currently in 9.1.5, there's no cap. Farm as much as you like.

Conquest costs in SL:

1800: two-handers.
1350: intellect main hand.
900: one-hander.
875: top-tier armor (helm, chest & legs).
700: offensive trinkets (badges, insignias & emblems) & mid-tier armor (shoulder, gloves, belt & feet).
525: accessories (neck, cloak, rings), bracers & CC trinkets.
450: offhands.
375: 不羁装备箱*
200: PvP conduits.

*不羁装备箱 is the only spillover item for Conquest; as gear is upgraded with honor. Worth of note that the 不羁装备箱 can be bought once you win once above 1400 in any arena bracket. Not sure if this privilege is partial: if it's per normal ranking rules dropping below 1350 will remove it again (not anything bought of course).

The use for 不羁装备箱 is two-ways: it's great to start alts out with, as the gear is better than non-upgraded Korthian gear, it can also be used to gamble for higher cost Conquest items on the character that buys these, especially if you haven't bought many directly yet. Piece and stats are completely random, so mileage may vary.

Conquest sources (9.1.5):
I've set this up similarly as for BfA, instead I've combined the rewards from PvP activities directly into a daily/repeatable. All numbers are considerably higher from BfA to reflect this.

Weekly, events and quests:

350: 实力悬殊 War bonus at 20% or 30%.
175: 战斗的呼唤 Battleground event.
175: 竞技场的召唤 Arena event.
175: two of 观察战斗,观察战争,观察练习赛,观察竞技场,观察合作
65: 与众不同 Brawl week.

Single activities (daily/repeated):

260/150: rated Battleground win.
110/25: Epic Battleground win.
85/55: rated 3s win.
70/45: rated 2s win.
70/15: random Battleground win.
40/15: Brawl win.
25/0: Arena skirmish win.
25/3: Comp Stomp win.

Seasonal and one-time (the war mode quest):

NOTE: BfA Call to Arms and chests still exist, but no longer reward Conquest.

8.2 overhaul: the 8.2 zones and activities added a lot of Conquest sources, up to a point where doing most 8.0 activities is not as efficient anymore. The Wintergrasp quest reset, and the Alterac Valley and Ashran quests got added, making me believe these have a seasonal cooldown.

Conquest is Battle for Azeroth's high end PvP currency that is rewarded in relatively low amounts for doing casual PvP activities daily or once a week, and consistently in rated activities.

How the Conquest system works:

In the PvP window (default H) there is a 500 Conquest bar at the top with a (sample) reward next to it.
Filling this bar allows you to claim the reward at the PvP headquarters. Each week another Conquest bar is added.
If you are behind on Conquest rewards, you have to first turn in one bar to start filling up the next. Any spillover Conquest is lost.
Claiming at least one reward will gain you a weekly reward, obtainable from the chest after reset.
The scaling of the weekly reward depends on your highest Arena or RBG rating.
Regardless of the reward, non-Azerite can upgrade just like random drops.
The entire system resets for everyone when a new season comes out with higher item level base rewards.

So, how to collect it? In the lists below I give all sources: from top to bottom in quantity updated for 8.2. Seperate lists for weeklies, dailies, repeatables, seasonal and one time sources. Numbers in bold are time efficient: the last list of the post will elaborate on the efficiency of sources.

Weekly:

100: PvP活动：纳沙塔尔之战 in Battle for Nazjatar.
100: 战斗的呼唤 during the battleground weekly.
75: 战斗的召唤：纳沙塔尔/战斗的召唤：纳沙塔尔 or 战斗的召唤：麦卡贡/战斗的召唤：麦卡贡.
65: 与众不同 during a Brawl week.
65: 竞技场的召唤 during the Arena weekly.
50: 实力悬殊/ when the War Mode bonus is 20% or higher.
50: original Call to Arms.

Daily:

150: rated Battleground win.
65: Epic Battleground win.
50: 1 per 360 Azerite collected on PvP islands (18000 total).
50: supply chests in War Mode: Secret during incursion, War randomly.
50: rated 3s win.
40: Brawl win.
40: random Battleground win.
35: rated 2s win.
35: killing a Bounty in any zone.
15: Arena skirmish win.

Repeatable:

100: rated Battleground wins.
75: supply chest in Nazjatar.
60: completing every quest during an Incursion in War Mode.
50: Bounty bag in Nazjatar/on Mechagon.
50: Battle for Nazjatar wins.
35: rated 3s wins.
25: rated 2s wins.
20: Battle for Nazjatar losses.
15: Epic Battleground wins.
8: random Battleground or Brawl wins.

Seasonal:

One time sources:

In 8.2, Conquest efficiency has shifted to Nazjatar and Mechagon. A good day in Nazjatar and/or on Mechagon can net a full bar, especially between and including at least two Battles for Nazjatar:

Start with a Battle for Nazjatar (50). It's unlikely you finish the weekly in one.
Focus on the 8.2 Call to Arms (125) + Odds (175), you're likely to run into a bounty (225).
Get a Nazjatar chest, either during Nazjatar CtA or after Mechagon CtA (300).
The next BfN (350) with the weekly (450) gets you to 450 with all of the above.
You have the rest of the reset to get 50 points: do the old CtA if you need rank 3 Ripple, else whatever comes around.

Of course alternative paths are possible and Odds isn't up every week, but it isn't hard to cap anymore. Mind that eight BfN wins, which is theoretically possible on one day, is also a cap without doing anything else. BfN is harder to abuse for alts though, especially multiple, as it's tricky to shard into a win when it's already ongoing for a while.

is conquest now hard capped as of today? 07-18-23? I don't see it on my rated pvp section. it was there last week.
