Abilities:
* He begins the fight as a skeletal serpent with a few abilities:
o Shadowbolt for ~2k Shadow damage.
o Curse of Life: Does a large amount of Nature damage, but dispels itself after draining 50% of the player's health.
* At certain intervals he uses the ability Decay Flesh and turns into a Windserpent-like mob, simultaneously transforming all players into skeletons. When in this form, players have four spells:
o Touch of Life: Instant cast, 20 yard range, steals 1900 to 2100 life from target enemy. 5 second cooldown.
o Bone Armor: Instant cast, encases the caster in bone armor, absorbing 4163 to 4837 damage for 10 sec. While the armor holds, spellcasting cannot be interrupted by physical attacks. 10 second cooldown.
o Taunt: Instant cast, 10 yard range, taunts the creature, increasing the chance that it will attack the caster.
o Slaying Strike: Instant cast, 8 yard range, requires melee weapon, inflicts normal damage plus 602 to 698 to an enemy. 1 sec cooldown.
* After a certain % of damage is done in this form, everyone switches back. The cycle repeats until he is dead.

Boss Fight (Normal).
This is a alternating two phase fight.
Curse of Life
: Deals shadow damage over 9 seconds This curse is removed if the target's HP is reduced below 50%.
Eye Beam
1040-1160 Nature damage every 2 seconds on a target..
Lightning breath
: Cone AOE nature damage.
Shadow Volley
: Deals shadow damage to all the party.
Poison Cloud
: Inflicts 600-700 nature damage to nearby targets every second for 10 seconds.
Decay Flesh
: Ends phase one and starts phase 2. This ability will stun the party for 6 seconds.
Return flesh
: Channeled spell ending phase two and returning to phase 1. This ability will stun the party for 6 seconds.
Phase 1
Tharo'jna starts off in it's skeleton form.
During this phase Tharo'jna will use the all of it's abilities excepting Eye beam.
It's recomended for your healer to keep everyone's HP above 50% and dispell the curse as quick as possible.
After a short amount of time, Tharon'ja will cast Decay Flesh and enter phase 2.
Phase 2
Thaor'jna will grow a skin in this phase and all players will be turned into skeletons and gain 4 abilities and also uses Eye Beam.
These abilities in order on the action bar are as follows:
Slaying Strike
:Does melee damage to the target. Requires melee weapon.
Taunt
: Taunts the target increasing the chance it will attack you.
Bone Armor
:Absorbs 4500 points of damage and prevents interupts from physical attacks .
Touch of life
: Steals 1520-1580 life from the target and heals you for the same amount..
All other player abilities will be unusable in this phase. however players HP still stays normal. it is advisible to have your tank still acting as the tank, taunting the mob on CD.
After a specific amount of damage has been taken, Thaor'jna will cast Return Flesh, Stunning the party and returning to phase 1.

On Heroic difficulty, she 2 shot me on 2 subsequent tries right after casting Return Flesh.
I was still stunned as a skeleton with 0 armor and she'd hit me for 15 and 10k.
Being feral, I was gimped in HP (no bear modifier as a skeleton) and there was no way to avoid it other than moving back when the debuff timer would get close to the last 6 secs and having someone other take aggro temporarily.
So, beware...

Cool boss-fights aside, has anyone got any clue as to who or what this guy actually is? A flying, undead wind serpent for sure, but I really can't make any sense of what he's doing in Drak'tharon Keep or where his loyalties lie. Him being undead and all, combined with the invading scourge forces you meet in most of the keep would imply that he's with the Scourge. His opening quote however rather suggests that there's more going on.
"Tharon'ja Sees All! The work of mortals shall not end the eternal dynasty!"
Assuming that his 'eternal dynasty' isn't referring to a newly granted immortality to him by the Scourge atleast.
His title 'The Prophet' made me think of the Drakkari Loa Gods' Prophets we come across later on inside Zul'drak. The Prophet of Quetz'lun (

) does in fact share the same model, and from the questline involving his God we get to know that Quetz'lun is in fact capable of some rather wicked necromancy as well, atleast judging from the fates of her poor worshippers.
One other thing which might support this relation is that for some reason all the other Drakkari Gods seem to have their own High Prophets, except for Quetz'lun. (

While my first assumption was as such that Tharon'ja didn't have anything to do with the Scourge his positioning at the end of the instance, where you mostly fight undead trolls including undead drakkari death knights makes this pretty nonsensical. It could perhaps be that Tharon'ja, being the presumably immortal snake that he is, has either more or less willingly alligned himself with the Scourge present at Drak'tharon, or that he atleast realises that opposing them would likely mean his end.
This is my attempt at trying to make any sense of him at any rate, he's the only boss in Wrath of the Lich King so far that I've come across without immediatly being able to figure out why he's there. An undead troll berserker, sure. An overseeing Lich, makes sense. A huge devilsaur tripping around in the backyard, eh why not. A giant, flying, undead wind serpent referring to an eternal dynasty, uh...
Edit: Just realised there is a daily heroic quest for killing him just like every instance-end boss.
Drak'Tharon Keep once stood as a proud bastion of the Drakkari nation. Now it is nothing more than a stepping stone for the Lich King in his fight to put an end to Zul'Drak and steal the powers of the troll gods.
But if we were to eliminate
their leader, the Prophet Tharon'ja
, perhaps we could stop the flow of
Scourge troll
reinforcements. At the very least this would give the Argent Crusade in Zul'Drak one less thing to worry about.
Return to me with his tiki so I will know the prophet is slain.
Needless to say it would appear that Tharon'ja is in fact the leader of the undead forces at Drak'tharon Keep, unless I'm misunderstanding the above text. This still doesn't give any further explanation as to who or what he was before, but for now I'd go with that he's a powerhungry former prophet of Quezt'lun who willingly alligned himself with the Scourge at the beginning of their invasion of Zul'drak.

He has a strong resemblance to Hakkar, who appears as a giant skeletal wind serpent in the Sunken Temple, and as a fleshy one in Zul'Gurub. Hakkar is a Loa god worshipped by a faction of trolls, and Tharon'ja probably is, too. His skeletal form probably has nothing to do with the Scourge.

As a mage, I was able to use Arcane Blast while in skeleton form.
Don't know about any other spells, and I highly doubt it is supposed to work this way.

I just ran this today to see if anything had changed with this encounter and it definitely hasn't. I was tanking (Feral Druid) and got 2 shotted if I wasn't far enough away after coming out of the skeleton phase. Even the warrior with us got 2 shotted when he tried to taunt off of me just as the debuff wore off. And another bug I hadn't seen before, but when I was killed just as the stun wore off, our healer (Priest) and our Mage were stuck in skeleton form even though he was back to normal and attacking. They didn't have their action bars back so no healing or dps. We wiped 3 times and finally called it. This definitely needs some serious attention from Blizzard.
The easiest way I can see to fix this would be to stun him for 5 seconds after he casts the Return Flesh spell. That would allow enough time to get forms/auras and abilities back before you get attacked.

Shadowpriests can get an edge on this boss. when in shadowform, well when he uses the flesh steal move you can shift out of shadowform which removes the skeleton form as well. I don't know how useful this will be as blizzard will likely fix this glitch in a patch. you also will still get stunned when he does the flesh return.

Issues as feral tank. I noticed some ppl had problems as feral tank. i Dont know if this was hotfixed maybe, but i have no problems at all as feral tank.
When i get the debuff and turn into a skeleton. i waith 4 seconds and then use bone shield. This because then i can have the bone shield up when the transformation back to normal starts.
I also dont touch the bear form ability as this happens automaticly when the transformation back to normal is complete. at least it has done that for me now 3 times. edit: (after i did it today it bugged when i was spamming buttons to taunt him, seems that if i want the transformation back to bear form to work automaticly, i have to not touch any buttons the seconds before the skeleton form is over.) luckily our mage had boneshield up and didn't get one shotted.
I also suggest everyone else to have boneshield up when transformation back to normal begins, this way u wont get one shotted if the boss dont go to the tank right away.

I believe this guy is bugged for the Champion of the Frozen Wastes achievement.
It won't count him when I kill on heroic.

He can be reset if you run out far enough; the area where trolls spar will suffice. If your group is wiping, you can save durability this way.

A nice little treat being a shaman.
The totems you can cast also boosts your power in skeleton form, aka totem of wrath = powerfuller drain, strenght of earth - powerfuller attacks, etc.
Healing stream is handy here too.

Achievements don't work like quest completion; it's possible to have killed a boss numerous times and not get credit. Seriously.
So there may not be anything
wrong
with a boss encounter if you didn't get the achievement (even if someone else in your group DID get it).
In this case, I have had to run several times to get the achievement.
Here's what I've found can "reset" you from getting this achievement:
Dying during the encounter. At all. Spirit releasing or not. (Found out the hard way).
Pathing patterns; it appears that just being in a certain place at a certain time can prevent you from being "logged" that you completed the achievement.
On the latter, this is what happened to me in my group. Everyone got the achievement but me, and it wasn't like I had gone out far. There just seems to be a certain pathing you must follow (or not follow) while killing The Prophet in order to get the achievement.
Bottom line? Achievements AREN'T quests, you might have to do it over and over before you get it.
UPDATE: Spoke to a GM myself, there are multiple things happening with The Prophet, and location and death COULD have to do with it.

Killed him while he was returning our flesh to us (going back to first phase), and got exp twice (it also looked as if he died twice). Not bad when rested, almost 22k exp :) dunno if this was just pure luck, though.
EDIT: Did this again, and got twice the amount of exp this time as well :)

Soloed as 80 Endurance DK (Imp Rune Tap, MoG, Crypt Fever, Glyph of DS). Just need to have 24k hp so that DS heals for over 3.5k each time. All quest/craft/rep blues.

Barring any glitches with the transition for the tanks - This is quite possibly the easiest Heroic end-boss, as it is impossible almost to die (unless you fail and stand in AoE).
There is a great advantage to bringing Pet Classes (including Shaman who drop their Fire Elemental Totem) as the pets can continue to DPS while you are a skeleton. Might not seem like much but causes the skeleton phase to last seconds.

As a holy priest I cast a Shadow Fiend at him before we got transformed. It lasted through the transformation and kept attacking him while I had my flesh torn off.

Am I the only one to think that this boss has some of the most terribad voice acting in the entire game, especially Northrend? The only voice I can think of that came close was the OLD Brann voice before the redid it with Ulduar.

I just killed this boss last night (it was the first time that I had been there since this recent patch AND i used to get this dungeon at least once everyday if I was doing a dungeon running marathon), AND he now seems to change into a fully fleshed wind serpent when he turns us into skeletons. Don't know if this was a glitch and it's not supposed to happen, but before he used to stay a skeleton the whole time even when we were skeletons.
So was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this or if I just had an interesting glitch. Oh, and for us he turned into one of the red with black fins and such wind serpent.

, you can often shift into Ghost Wolf form instead of being transformed into the skeleton form. Just shift out of Ghost Wolf and you should be in the normal form, allowing you to use all your usual abilities. =)

Soloed heroic as an 85 assassination rogue. Stealthed past the entire instance. Kept recuperate up as much as possible, used the skellie phase to get health up a little, had to use a Rogue's Draught to heal near the end as I dropped to 14k/100k.

If currently, as a Windwalker monk, after the Decay Flesh phase, your action bar is empty, it's because you're forced to leave the only stance you have, you can't re-apply the stance and it bugs out on your action bar. Either swap to a Brewmaster or Mistweaver spec to change stances, or log out and back in. It's a slightly annoying UI error.

It seems that for Bartender4 users, when he does his Decay Flesh stage, your UI bar doesn't change to the attacks used during the phase. (It stays the same as if you weren't in the phase.) Leaving you to not attack.
