Once the cage is opened, the ravager is on a despawn timer. It's a couple minutes long, but it will vanish, only to respawn in the cage a short while later. Note: the key that is used to release the Death Ravager is not consumed. You can open the cage as many times as you wish!

For those who are currious...there is no quest to open the cage anymore...just kill ravagers for the key and go to town ^_^

As of patch 4.0.6 this beautiful little ravager is tameable again!
Just farm the
掠食者牢笼钥匙
to the cage from nearby
成型的掠食者
, open it up and you are good to go! It's worth noting that this is the only ravager currently in-game with this colour scheme, so that alone makes him a worthy addition to any hunter's stables.

For level 10 Hunters.
Be sure to get, either of:
- 2 Swim Speed Potions ,
- or 2 Lesser Healing Potions .
Note: If you want, you can activate the flight paths at Splintertree Post, Silverwind Refuge, Hellscream’s Watch and Zoram’gar Outpost.
Note: Since the Shattering, I take a Fishing Pole with me because there are plenty of Oily Blackmouth and Firefin Snapper schools along the coast of Darkshore. You can also fish up Iron Bound Trunk that can obtain a Weather-beaten Journal .
Begin from Orgrimmar’s western gate, in Valley of Spirits. Swim north up the Southfury River until you swim under a high bridge. After passing the bridge, leave the water and head up the path on the left bank.
Follow the road, west, until you get to Astranaar. Make a detour via the water on the western side of the bridge until you get to another bridge and leave on the western side.
Continue along the road until you get to Master’s Glaive. Then head for the coast.
Follow the shoreline north until you see Frenzied Cyclones. Jump into the water and swim passed the Ruins of Auberdine until you pass Aetherion and part of the old Long Wash wharf that was destroyed by Deathwing.
Head back to shore a little further north at Mist’s Edge. Continue up the coast until you see Enraged Tidal Spirits.
Swim out between the sunken boat and the mini island and swim due north. Try to stay out of the dark areas of water.
Look for a tall sharply tapered mini island with a flat top. Then head to the left of the next mini island and keep heading north for about 5 seconds. Then head into the Sun/Moon’s reflection on the water.
As soon as the Fatigue Bar appears look for a rooftop that is poking up out of the water. Head for the roof’s peak.
Use a Swim Speed Potion as soon as the yellow bar has reached the F in Fatigue.
Or if using a Lesser Healing Potion, use it as soon as your health bar is below 50.
As a spirit , follow the Corpse arrow on the mini-map until you see a bridge. Head across it and cross the next bridge that is directly in front of you. Continue running straight ahead until you see a tall, bent tree and head to the water’s edge to the left of the 3 knobbed rock mound.
From there you will be able to see the tall sharply tapered mini island with a flat top. Run out to it and stop. While standing there, turn and face due north.
Then run passed the next mini island and keep heading north for about 5 seconds. Then turn and run towards the Corpse arrow on the mini-map.
Once you get to your body, do not rez until you are passed your body and just before the Resurrect Now? Window disappears. Remember to keep running towards the rooftop poking up out of the water.
Use another Swim Speed Potion, or Lesser Healing Potion, if you need to.
Do not
set foot on land when you get to Rut’theran Village. Swim west passed the first wharf and then swim around to the second wharf (where a boat with one sail docks) and swim around to the north side and try to get onto the wharf.
Once the Sentinals have KO’d you, you will be sent to a Spirit Guide in Teldrassil.
Run back to your body by following the Corpse arrow. Do not rez there. Instead get onto the wharf and wait for a boat with one sail to arrive. Then rez, board the boat and stand on the other side.
As soon as the loading screen changes, jump of the boat and swim north. Follow the coast around until you discover Wildwind Peak.
Then swim towards the lowest part of land on the horizon until you see a bridge. Once at the bridge, stay on the Azuremyst Island side and head east to Fairbridge Strand. Continue along the shore until you see the cage with Death Ravager in it.

A very good method, thanks! However, not everyone can get their hands on swim speed potions-- or just can't be bothered. For those who go without, there's another route (best for being EXACTLY level 10, as you have no repair bill then):
1. Take a zepplin to Grom'gol.
2. Hop into the Vile Reep and swim west then north. Try to stay in away from the shallower areas, as the murlocs are not above swimming up to grab your ankles.
3. Head north-northeast across Westfall: either swim along the coast (again: beware murlocs!) or run overland east to the eastern river and follow it north. Either way, make your way to the most northeastern coast of Westfall.
4. Swim north along the mountainous coast, into Stormwind Harbor.
5. Drown or kamikaze at the end of the first dock you reach. Make sure you're all the way at the end of the dock!
6. Run back to your corpse, possibly while listening to War and Peace on audiobook.
7. When the boat arrives, get on it and try to find a relatively safe place to stand on the front of it. If that's too far from your corpse, plant yourself on the edge you boarded from the dock.
8. Rez on the boat. Depending on where you are you may immediately die again; don't worry, and don't release.
9. Wait for the boat to finish the loading screen as it reaches Teldrassil. Enjoy your free rez if you just re-died, but either way fling yourself off the boat as soon as you have control again.
10. Swim northwest to the western dock. You can wait out your PvP flag in the water if you'd like, but when you're ready hop out of the water on the south side of the dock and make your way up onto the end of it.
11. Board the boat when it arrives, and ride over to Azuremyst.
12. Fling yourself off the boat when the loading screen finishes and make your way to Death Ravager's haunt by land or by sea.
Potentially more punishing than wobyt's excellent route if you have long loading screen times, but if you're lag free, unencumbered by repair bills, and too cheap/poor for potions, this will get you where you want to go. Happy hunting!

For what it's worth, an epic flying mount is not required to cross the deep water between the mainland and Teldrassil. I did it with a lvl 60 flying mount, and didn't even get below 50% fatigue.
From there, you can just land on the top of the mast of the Exodar boat. Very easy run once you get to Azuremyst. By the way, don't forget to pick up The Kurken while you're in the area! :)

Drop rate for the key that opens the death ravager's cage isn't terribad, but I had to kill about 80 ravagers before it dropped the key. Hopefully this post helps those hunters who expected to see the key in the first 10 kills like I did, and wondering why it isn't dropping

i tamed him with my lvl 20 troll, cuz im trial, and i might say, my troll died in sw, no player killed me, only guards, with my armor in red, having a 38 defense thx to the cloak, i killed some ravagers specimen by punching them, and i loot ravager cage key, i dismissed my pet, open the cage and tamed him, them later i tame a royal blue flutterer. Soo if u want to tame in as a trial, u better tame him in a low pvp realm, that way only guards will bothered u, but if u want a good chalange, go to a high pvp realm and comment how u got him. Good Luck :D

Erm..
No idea what everyone else is talking about but anyways...
I like this ravager considering he's the only one tameable with that color at low level. I think there are some other ones with the same color in Outland but it's pretty cool to have it at low level too ^_^
Just kill the ravagers to get the key. On all of my Draenei alts, I got the key within killing about 6 of the guys. The ravager cage should be on the beach. Just unlock it, disengage (if you can) scatter shot (if you can) and tame him. Be warned though, this guy can hit hard if you have low armor, I learned that the hard way.

As of 5.0.4 the quest for warriors is still there.
I have 2 accounts so, out of curiosity I started a Dranei warrior on my 2nd account and got him to level 10, picked up the quest
一人之力
and ran out there to my pre-positioned hunter (on my main account).
To tame him you'll need to grab aggro immediately otherwise the tame will fail. I just put my hunter directly in front of the cage, standing in a freeze trap, and ran my warrior a little bit away.
Obviously it's easier to grab a warrior friend that hasn't done the quest and have them open it for you.

not sure as of patch 5.3 if the key drops anymore without having a warrior do the quest or has done it in the past? i wiped all the ravagers in the area 3 times, no key.
i have gotten the key drop and this pet in the past on my twink hunter, and F2P hunter, but that was over 1 year ago.

Hi, I can confirm as of 18/08/2013 Death Ravager is tameable. I took my lvl 90 Tauren Hunter, my lvl 42 Draenei Hunter and my lvl 90 Tauren Death Knight to Azuremyst Isle and killed Ravager Specimens till the
掠食者牢笼钥匙
dropped. The 2 Hunters got the key in less than 10 kills and tamed, np :), the Death Knight got the key after about 25 kills, opened cage, ran away and a low lvl Hunter moved in and tamed. Hope this is helpful :) .

Just tamed him today. Went on my lvl 90 troll hunter, killed a few of the ravagers that are around until the cage key drops. So even Horde can get this pet. No need to do the warrior quest.

Just to confirm, as of 05/06/14, the Death Ravager is still tameable to both factions.
On my Belf hunter, killed around 13 of the Ravager Specimens roaming around and received the key that opens the cage; opened up said cage and tamed this little cutie. Happy hunting!
P.S. I made my way to Darnassus via my 150% speed flying mount with no potions or the like; just flew over and grabbed the boat to Azuremyst Isle (the boat that will take you to Azuremyst Isle has a purple sail, the other boat travels to Stormwind).

Confirming the key does drop without any quest via 5.4. :) He's an adorable little guy. Just keep killing the ravagers in the area til one drops. Excellent way to get lots of Light Leather too while trying for the key.

This is not tameable in TBC Classic prepatch or post-patch, this was made not tameable in patch 2.1.0 originally and TBC Classic is based on the 2.4.3 patch.
