Auras: The Next Hearthstone Mechanic?
With the introduction of this week's
Battle of the Builds Tavern Brawl
came something completely unexpected. In it, players are able to choose between one of four cards at the start of the game: , , , or . These remain as auras throughout the remainder of the match, providing their bonuses or buffs until either player wins. This marks a first for Hearthstone as the closest comparable card is probably which remains active as long as it remains in the hand of your opponent. But what if this is Blizzard's way of testing out a new mechanic prior to the next expansion, which is due sometime in the next two months?

Hearthstone Maintenance Tomorrow, iPad Issues Addressed, Arena Card Distribution Hotfix

December 2015 Cardback Issue
Ranked rewards are being distributed with the end of and some users are noticing that the card back isn't being rewarded but is instead. This was first introduced with the last patch, which is why our
Seasons Database
also displays this information, but shortly after discovery Blizzard commented saying it would be fixed by the time 2015 concluded. Despite that, some users appear to be receiving and are able to use it in the game. This raises a slew of questions including as to whether or not those users miss out on the real card back and what happens when February rolls around.

Hearthhead 2015: Hearthstone Cards of the Year
The year of 2015 was filled to the brim with Hearthstone content. From the launch of the game on Android and iOS, to the revelation of Tavern Brawls, alternate heroes, and much more. Two adventures and one expansion released in Blackrock Mountain, League of Explorers, and The Grand Tournament, respectively, totaling more than 200 new cards. And with the dawn of Winter Veil the year is ready to come to a close. But looking back, only one card can stand out as the best. It's obviously been a very busy week for the Hearthstone team with folks like Lead Designer Ben Brode taking time to respond to feedback from their latest efforts. In particular, his

on consistency really seemed to split the community. Some wanted immediate changes or firm stances, but what he offered was, well, insight into their thinking and all the factors that must be considered. Designer Insights with Ben Brode: Consistency
The time has come! Lead Designer Ben Brode has released a video detailing Blizzard's reasoning behind inconsistency in card text! "There are some cards in Hearthstone that are not wildly consistent," Brode begins, "I'm actually not sure that that's a problem." He of course discusses and , but he also explains how users can more accurately predict these interactions prior to silencing them. That said, the development team obviously has to weigh changing the card versus simply establishing consistency for the future.

Tavern Brawl Launch Time Changed & Gift Exchange Tavern Brawl Coming Tomorrow
Good news! Blizzard Community Manager Keganbe has announced that the Tavern Brawl schedule is being altered to hopefully alleviate some of the server issues that have been occurring! The Americas server will now be launching first, four hours before all of the others, which will release simultaneously.

Blue Tweets: Tuesday Maintenance, Tracking 500+ Wins, & New Tribes
Tuesday will see Hearthstone be unavailable for all of two hours in the morning. This doesn't appear to be directly related to Hearthstone as every other game in the client has the same warning.
In the mean time though, one of the hot topics among the Hearthstone community is the ability to track Ranked wins above 500. Currently, once you reach that mark you're rewarded the golden hero portrait and the game subsequently stops telling you how many wins you have. Many have demanded for this to be fixed, but Lead Designer, Ben Brode, offers some insight as to why this is the case. He also comments on some clarifications, bugs, and his stance on introducing new tribal synergy.
