So a little while back, right around the release of

Echo Isles and Gnomeregan Official News!
For those of you who haven't been following the spoilers, The pre-Cataclysm world event is coming up soon—and from the looks of it, it will be revolving primarily around the efforts of the Alliance to retake Gnomeregan, and the Horde to retake the Echo Isles!
Blizzard has just released a sneak preview of both events on the official site, with some awesome screenshots and a little background for those who don't know the history:
High Tinker Mekkatorque, betrayed by Mekgineer Thermaplugg and forced to flee the irradiated city of Gnomeregan with the few of his fellow gnomes who managed to survive, is preparing to reclaim his once glorious city. Wowhead Pride Contest: 1 Day Extension

Anniversary Player Interview: Luek

GDC: Rob Pardo Speaks About Blizzard Game Design
At tenth annual Games Developer Conference
Rob Pardo
, Executive Vice President of Game Design at Blizzard, hosted a panel where he spoke about design philosophy at Blizzard. The fine folks over at
WoW.com
were able to get some nice info on some of their key successes and failures.
He spoke about how they succeeded in creating a good economy in World of Warcraft through the "taxing" for deaths, the auction house, and making money-sinks (such as mounts, titles and pets). This made the concept of gold
matter
, while on the flip side in Diablo II death, took away half your gold - but people just ended up keeping it in town unless they needed to buy something, therefore making gold pretty useless.
He also spoke about key design concepts like making everything overpowered, the default UI being a failure and several other subjects that are well worth the read.

Cataclysm Mastery System Preview
Last week
Blizzard went into detail about the changes into the stats system for Cataclysm and now they have finally revealed their plans for the
Mastery
system.
In a nut shell the mastery system will basically give you bonuses that increase damage, healing or survivability according to the amount of points spent in the tree. Along with it you will get a secondary bonus to a stat that is most desirable to you, like haste or crit. There is even a third bonus which will be completely unique to the tree and will benefit from the mastery rating on high-level gear.
Eyonix then goes into detail about how talents such as

will go away in favor of more fun and interesting talents while being merged into the new mastery system.

As many of you know, the original pitch for World of Warcraft was an epic adventure where you would band together with your peers and defeat a common enemy, be it a huge dragon, or an opposing faction's army. This is the reason that a lot of players initially bought the game, but it's also one of the aspects of the game that seems to be disappearing.

Battlecry Mosaic Complete, New Interviews, Noxy Artwork

A total of 20,000 submissions have come in since the
Warcraft Anniversary
site opened, and the full mosaic is now available for viewing! You can look at it through the Mosaic Viewer on the Battlecry page, or by downloading the truly epic

Pawn, Now with Added Wowhead Awesome
Some of you may know about this little addon from the last time we
mentioned
it, but for those who don't here's a little explanation:
Pawn
is an addon that takes the stats from an item you are looking at and gives it a score based on a weight scale, very similar to our own stat weighting system. The higher the score the "better" the item is according to the weight scales you design.
And now, Pawn users will be happy to know that the team over there has added a little extra awesome into the addon by using our
stat-weights
by default!

3.3.3 PTR Patch Notes Updated
The PTR is currently down and is being updated to a new build, but in the mean time Blizzard has updated the PTR Patch Notes!

Included in this new build are several changes to some classes, such as

's debuff duration increased from 12 seconds to 60 seconds. There are also other class changes for Mages, Rogues and Warriors.
Another little gem was added in this build was the ability to your frame rate to an eye blistering
200 frames per second

Icecrown Citadel Raid Buff Now Live
The buff promised by Blizzard to make

easier has finally been enabled on live realms as of this morning's rolling restarts!

. From looking at related spells it will slowly increase over time to finally reaching its top out point of

These buffs will hopefully help out those raid groups that are having issues progressing through the raid encounter. But those who wish to do this without help still have the option to turn it off by speaking with your respective faction leader to disable the buff.

Stat Changes in Cataclysm Announced
Quite a few of you have heard about the changes coming to stats in
Cataclysm
, and out of that few many have wondered what exactly is changing.
Eyonix has gone into detail about each and every change you will be seeing in the upcoming expansion, including spell power coming from intellect, and haste rating doing "more stuff" for melee users than just increasing attack speed.

About a week ago I got a letter that was very affecting. It almost got lost in the inbox shuffle, but fortunately I caught it only a few days late, because I found it really affecting.
It warms my heart to see gamers coming out to do something really good for society, and considering the way mainstream media only seems to notice when a gamer shoots up a school, it's more important than ever that we work together to get the word out.

My name is a Maria, a SF Bay Area geek and a very avid gamer. From the age of 7 when my Dad got me into gaming and bought me an NES Action Set/Bundle, I’ve been hooked. Aside from the typical console gaming and having a day job, I am still very active playing PC games especially within World of Warcraft. I was recruited into the guild Conquest on Kilrogg (US) and have since then learned how to split group mobs and teleport through walls. :P
