Welcome to Wowhead's
剥皮
Profession Overview. Here you'll find information on the perks of
剥皮
, changes to
剥皮
in Dragonflight, ways to make gold with
剥皮
, and more - all updated with the latest information!
Upcoming Skinning Changes in Patch 10.1
There are no new skins or hides, but there will be some new Elusive creatures you'll be able to hunt and skin in Patch 10.1 using
隐秘生物诱饵
. There is a new Serpent model among these as well, but there are no recolors that are exclusive to Elusive. The non-Serpent new Elusives are not tamable.
New: Multiple Players Can Skin Kills in Dragonflight
剥皮
has long been plagued by a few annoying problems: only one skinner can skin a kill, other skinners can skin our kills out from under us (ninja skinning), and kills can only be skinned if it's completely looted out.
All
of these problems have been addressed in Dragonflight. Multiple players can now skin the same kill -- within a certain set of rules.
A
tagger
is someone who has tagged a potential kill either by doing damage to it or being in the party that did damage. Since you can also tag a mob cross-faction now, this opens skinning wide open to everyone.
Mob
in this section is assumed to be "skinnable mob".
All
taggers who are Skinners can skin the kill.
They do not need to wait for other players to loot it out; all they need to do is loot out their personal loot and skin. The mob will remain lootable and skinnable to other taggers who have not yet looted and/or skinned the kill themselves. This takes away competition between skinners for kills.
If a mob has been tagged by any skinner, it cannot be skinned by someone who has not tagged it.
Once a mob tagged by any skinner, the system locks the skinning
only
to any and all skinners who participated in the kill. If you come across skinnable corpses that do not appear skinnable, it's because they were tagged by at least one skinner. This prevents ninja-skinning from those who are not contributing to the kills.
If a skinnable mob has
only
been tagged by non-skinners, the corpse becomes immediately available for skinning to any skinner, even if they did not tag it.
The system does not limit skinning to taggers if no skinners participated in the kill, which leaves the mob open to wandering skinners. The non-skinner does not need to loot it out first. This solves the problem of non-skinners not looting out skinnable corpses to make them available to skinners.
Why is Skinning Useful in Dragonflight?
The obvious benefit to Skinning is collecting the various leathers, hides, and scales needed to create items for
制皮
, but Skinning in Dragonflight has so much more to offer. Scales and specialty leathers are a common reagent in Dragonriding mount customizations created by
铭文
, so they will be in great demand there as well. It has the most interesting specialization tree of all the gathering professions, with some truly novel and exciting possibilities.
Skinning now has a small crafting component that's unique to them as gatherers, since with the
诱饵工匠
talents, they can create the special fish lures such as
千噬水虎鱼诱饵
for targeting specific fish. Other sub-specialities for Skinners gives them the ability to harvest meat along with skins, which is great for cooking.
Most interesting is the
诱饵工匠
specialty -- not to be confused with Lure Crafter. Rather, the skinner can create bait to lure special skinnable creatures in the Dragon Isles, up to and including Rares and Elites!
Even just opening
收割
talent tree gives Skinners increased damage against beasts and dragonkin while adventuring outdoors in the Dragon Isles, so this should always be your first pick.
Making Gold with Skinning
制皮
is the primary user of a Skinner's wares, but as mentioned above,
铭文
also has a high demand for
无瑕的始祖龙鳞
and
石牙皮革
for use in Dragonriding mount customizations.
Skinners are the source of all fish-specific lures such as
天蓝刺皮鱼诱饵
in the Dragon Isles, and you'll need scales to create those as well. Other than the ability to combine scraps into leathers through several expansions, Skinners have never had items they could craft directly. These baits cannot be acquired in any other way!
Learning Skinning in Dragonflight
Skinning is the one profession in Dragonflight you don't have to go to a trainer to learn, although you can do that if you wish to. If you know basic Skinning going into Dragonflight, all you have to do is skin something and you're learn Dragonflight Skinning. Simple as that!
If you don't know any Skinning going into the Dragon Isles, or wish to switch to Skinning, you'll have to see a trainer to learn basic Skinning first.
Leveling Skinning
The answer is simple: skin everything you can. Skinning levels seemingly have nothing to do with mob levels. You can be 70 and still get skill off skinning a level 60 mob.
Skinning is incredibly easy to level. Many players can be well over 50 Skinning (and maxxed out completely) before they even leave the first proto-drake area after getting off the zeppelin or ship. Since you don't even have to visit a trainer to learn Dragonflight Skinning, you can be well on your way before you even hit Wingrest Embassy, the first major hub.
The Skinning Journal
Your Skinning Journal is where you can track your progress with all kinds of skinning activities. It also lists your relative secondary skills for each type of item you can skin. These traits will change based on your level, your Specializations, and any Profession accessories or tools you may be using.
The Skinning Journal is not highly detailed, especially as compared to Herbalism or Mining Journals, and mostly covers general categories rather than specifics.
Skinning normally only goes to 100; this skinner is a Worgen, who gets a +5 racial bonus to Skinning
Incidentally, there are also journal pages for some of the other expansions, although not all of them will have information beyond the skill level in that expansion's Skinning. It will only show further information for those few expansions (e.g. Legion) where you got specialized skills in particular skins/scales.

Leveling Milestones
There are certain levels of Skinning that open up important milestones. Getting to level 50 in Skinning will have the biggest impact on your development, although Skinning is the easiest to level up of the three gathering professions:

What You Get from Skinning in Dragonflight
The following items are the new leathers, hides, and scales available from skinning in the Dragon Isles. There are also race-specific skins and products that you get from particular mobs across the Dragon Isles.
You do not gain Knowledge from harvesting new types.
Rare side gathers are items that accompany more common leathers and scales and are never guaranteed to drop. Species-Specific gathers are also a rare side gather from a limited species.
Species-Specific Gathers must come from specific mob types. The chart below lists what they are used for by other professions. All species-specific gathers are also used by specialized Skinners to create fishing lures.
There are several hides and scales that are crafted with
制皮
, not gathered by Skinning. Examples of these include
地耀之鳞
and
死寒之皮
.

Specializations and Knowledge Points in Dragonflight
Each Profession has its own Specialization Tree. Crafting profession trees focus on learning new recipes, creating items to improve your crafting, and increasing crafting Secondary Skills, which allow players to create better items. Gathering profession trees improve gathering yields, give better chances of collecting rare items, allow gathering while mounted, and even give one gathering profession a small crafting component. Secondary Skills (Fishing and Cooking) do not have specialization trees.
Unlocking Specializations requires a minimum skill level of 25 in that profession. You use Knowledge Points earned in various ways to unlock various branches of the Specialization tree.
What are Knowledge Points?
Knowledge is a new currency that you will acquire during Dragonflight. These points can be spent in your profession's Specialization Trees to improve your crafting ability.
Knowledge Point changes are permanent!
Once you use a Knowledge Point and save your changes, you will not be able to adjust it later.
Important: Your ability to generate Knowledge Points as a skinner is very limited until you reach level 68 minimum and open World Quests/Trainer Quests.
Unlike Herbalism and Mining, you do not generate Knowledge from gathering new items. You rely on rare side gathers, a couple scattered quests, and treasures to generate what few points you get until then.
The way you spend Knowledge is very important. While it is possible to learn everything a Specialization has to offer, this system is meant to take a significant time investment to maximize. Because
there is no current way to refund Knowledge
, choosing starter builds wisely is crucial.
Unlearning the profession and then re-acquiring it will
not
reset or refund spent Knowledge Points.
You will get back everything you'd learned through Specialization, as well as any unspent points, although you'll still return to Skill (1) and have to re-learn any recipes.
There are many different ways to earn Knowledge Points, including but not limited to random drops, special trainers, quests, and Renown. For complete and up-to-date information on earning Knowledge Points, please see our guides:

Profession Traits in Skinning
Skinners have three Profession traits: Deftness, Finesse, and Perception. These are raised primarily through Specializations. Although these can be more complicated, the tl;dr version is below:
Deftness:
Increases how fast you skin mobs. 3 points of Deftness gives +1%.
Finesse:
Allows you to extract more leathers and scales. 10 points of Finesse gives +1%.
Perception:
Increases your chance of finding rare side gathers, including Hides and
浸润之骨
, a +1 Knowledge item that does not have a weekly limit. 10 points of Perception gives +1%.
Skinning Specializations in Dragonflight
This section summarizes the three specialization trees for Skinning in Dragonflight.
Skinning Specialization Guide Skinning Profession Tree Calculator in Dragonflight
Tanning
Best For:
Those who wish to maximize the yield and quality of skinned products, as well as to improve the quality of skinned products through Refining.
鞣制
allows you to learn to refine your skins and scales from Quality 1 to Quality 3, as well as specialize in either
皮甲精通
or
鳞片精通
. This will improve your relative skill, Deftness, Perception, and Finesse when skinning.
Improving Quality is almost always a money-losing proposition, since you must combine 5x of a lower quality to turn it into 1x of the next higher quality. Sell your lower-level skins and hides and buy the higher quality when you need it.
Harvesting
Best For:
Skinners who wish to diversify through crafting fishing lures, skinning for meat, and gathering more species-specific products. Should always be the first tree you open for the damage bonus.
Pro Tip: Especially since you gain so little Knowledge until you're level 70, investing your few points should be done wisely -- and there is no better place to spend your first point than in
收割
. Just opening Harvesting increases the damage you do against beasts and dragonkin, the very creatures you'll be targeting for all your Skinning activities. You're leaving damage on the table without picking this up as soon as you can. Since you can pick up your second Skinning tree at 50, and you've likely gotten nearly that much before leaving the proto-drake area, there's no reason not to open this first. You can always choose where you want to invest later.
收割
also has three interesting sub-specializations, one of which introduces a potentially valuable crafting component!
诱饵工匠
allows you to make fish-specific Fishing Lures such as
千噬水虎鱼诱饵
, including the skill to find one of the ingredients only Skinners can produce to make them. Since this is the only source for fish-specific Fishing Lures in Dragonflight, this gives Skinners a corner on this market.
剥肉者
gives you a chance to butcher Meat off kills as well as harvest them for skins, which is valuable for Cooking.
战利品收集者
increases your chance of collecting rare species-specific gathers.
Bait Crafter
Best For:
Hunters who want to tame unusual pets, and those who like to live dangerously!
The last tree,
诱饵工匠
, is intriguing and certainly nothing like anything we've seen in Skinning before. With Bait Crafter, you'll be able to craft
隐秘生物诱饵
, which draws Elusive, Rare, and even Elite skinnable monsters to you.
精通
further hones your ability to make the most of your creature bait, reducing the cooldown and giving you better chances to get more interesting mobs.
元素注能
allows you to learn Infusions, which imbue lured creatures with elemental properties of Frost, Decay, Titan, or Earth, giving you chances to loot corresponding Rousing Essences.
Not only that, many of these Elusive creatures can be Tamed by Hunters, and there are some recolors that only seem to be available through this system, such
Elusive Rimeclaw Bear
s with green or purple back spikes. Anyone can tame these, but only Bait Crafters can summon them. Any specific Elusive creature is a totally random summon.
Skinning Accessories and Tools in Dragonflight
Skinning allows two Skinning Accessories and one Skinning Tool to improve your Skinning skill. Higher skill gives higher yields and a better chance to harvest higher-quality leather and scales.
The great thing about Profession Accessories is that you'll automatically "equip" them when you skin something (your appearance will even change) but they will not actually replace your head armor, cloak, or weapon. The appearance may linger after you're done skinning, but it will change when you enter combat.
If you prefer to have your profession accessories and tool
not
appear as often while you're not skinning, visit
玛赫拉·折树
in Ruby Life Pools, /way 61, 70, to set your preferences for your display. Just ask her about Profession tools, and you will get the following dialogue. Choose the second option to limit how much you see your gathering equipment:

Are there some particularly efficient spots for skinning in the Dragon Isles? Has anyone made a map highlighting good spots for particular types of skins?

Skinning is the only skill that can be learned just by skinning a skinable corpse. The other gathering skills require you to learn them first.

Does anyone know what the damage buff is for learning Harvesting, the one that increases your damage against beasts/dragonkin? I cannot find the number anywhere. I assume it's 5%?

This guide is wrong when it says you should take harvesting and just unlockiing it gives the buff. you have to spend 20 points to get to the dmg buff....

The article states "Important: Your ability to generate Knowledge Points as a skinner is very limited until you reach level 68 minimum and open World Quests/Trainer Quests".
All I see is one weekly you can get from a trainer. Otherwise I see knowledge points only dropping while skinning.
Sklnning is, by far, the prof where I have the least knowledge points used. Just because I don't spend hours doing nothing but skinning.

What exactly happens at 68? I have yet to see any world quests that reward profession knowledge on any of my characters with crafting professions, and if there are gathering world quests then nobody is talking about them..

The easiest way I've found to level skinning and get a near infinite amount of
Adamant Scales
for little to no effort is by joining a Lunker raid group. You can go for hours and never stop skinning. Between harpooning and skinning, after about 2-3 hours, I had over 2500
Adamant Scales
, and around 60
Lustrous Scaled Hide
.
Best part is, you can continue skinning while
harpooning
! Be aware, you will lose your target when looting an
Ominous Conch
. Also,
DON'T
dps the Threshers! Thank you.

OMFG it's a "skinning guide" and it doesn't tell you were the trainers are... Yes, I know, you don't need a trainer if you already KNOW skinning. But, what if you want to learn it from scratch? Add the trainers like every other guide!
