Welcome to Wowhead's guide on Recrafting, a new crafting system introduced in Dragonflight. Here we will explain what the Recrafting system does, the important benefits to players, and how to recraft your own items or place a Work Order for one.
What is Recrafting in Dragonflight?
Recrafting is a brand new crafting system being introduced in Dragonflight. This process allows you to attempt to craft an item again without having to supply all of the original materials. Instead, you will only have to supply the item you want recrafted, a small portion of materials, and a new material,
匠人之勇
. This system will be very important throughout Dragonflight and is available to anyone through Professions and Crafting Orders!
A few examples on why someone may use this new system is:
They want to improve the item's quality.
They want to change the item's stats.
They want to increase the item's Item Level.
They want to adjust the current Optional Reagents applied to their crafted item.
Why is Recrafting Important?
The biggest perk to Recrafting is that it does not require all of the original reagents of the item, meaning it is cheaper than just simply ordering or making a brand new piece of gear. Not only is it cheaper, it also allows you to improve your crafted gear without wasting BoP Materials. For example, in order to craft an Epic Quality piece of gear, you are required to spend a
暗影烈焰火花
. This item is time-gated and players will only receive one about every two weeks. Without Recrafting, if a player wanted to modify their item's stats, item level or quality, they would have to spend another
暗影烈焰火花
to make a whole new item. This is no longer the case in Dragonflight. This means that crafted gear that is made at the start of the expansion can still be relevant later on, saving the player time and gold.
How do you Recraft an Item in Dragonflight?
There are a few ways to go about recrafting an item. If you are someone who has access to professions, you can choose to do this through your personal profession menu. Most professions have the ability to recraft items. If you do not have access to professions, or cannot recraft an item to fit your needs, you will have to utilize the new Crafting Order System.
Buyers
Where to Place a Recrafting Order
If you are a player who is looking for a crafter to recraft your item, you will first need to visit a Crafting Order station. The easiest location to get to would be in The Artisan's Market of Valdrakken (/way 34, 61), the main city within the Dragon Isles. There is also a second location at Forkriver Crossing in the Ohn'ahran Plains.
Left: Crafting Order station at Forkriver Crossing | Right: Crafting Order station in Valdrakken
How to Place a Recrafting Order
Once you arrive at a Crafting Order station, you will be greeted with the Crafting Order interface. You will have many options and categories to choose from, but you will want to choose "Start Recrafting Order" and select the item you want recrafted.
The screen will then populate with the required materials to recraft that item and any Optional Reagents that you are allowed to add, remove or modify. Here is an example of what your screen will look like:
1
: This is the icon of your current item that you have selected to be recrafted. This is important because it showcases the current quality of your item. In this example, our current crafted item is a Quality 2 .
2
: This next area tells you what your expected outcome will be. Based on the mats that you select as well as the minimum Quality selected in Box 5, the expected quality of the item will show here. Hovering over the item's icon will also show the expected tooltip of the item with the change in stats, item level or embellishments depending on your selected Optional Reagents.
3
: This is where your required materials are shown. You will have the option to include these items yourself, or ask the crafter to provide them for you. Because you are placing a Recrafting Order,
匠人之勇
will
always
be required; however, you do not have to provide these yourself. The amount and type of required materials will depend on the item you are trying to recraft.
4
: This is where you have the ability to change, add or remove any Optional Reagents to your crafted item. An important note is that if you remove or replace an Optional Reagent, that reagent is
destroyed
. You cannot get those items back. Depending on the item being recrafted, you may be able to modify Item level, Embellishments, and/or Secondary Stats.
5
:
Recrafting Orders are only available through Personal Crafting Orders
. This means that you will need to find a crafter ahead of time that you can send your order to. You are
not
able to make a Public Recrafting Order. Good news is that this character can be your Alt, a guildmate, or a random player you met in Trade Chat! They can even be on the opposite Faction of you. The only requirement is that they must be on the same realm or realm cluster as you. You will also have the opportunity to choose your desired minimum quality of your item. You can be as picky as you'd like, but remember that it could be hard to find someone to guarantee you a Quality 5 at the start of the expansion.
6
: This is an important disclaimer to note. Depending on the minimum quality that you choose in Step 5 and the reagents you provide, it is possible that the item you are recrafting might fall in Quality.
This is not necessarily a bad thing!
For example, a Quality 4 Epic Quality piece of armor with no Optional Reagents has an Item Level of 389. During recrafting, if you apply a
原始注能
and your quality falls to Quality 3, you still have a higher Item Level piece of gear. A Quality 3 Epic Quality piece of armor with a
原始注能
applied is Item Level 399.
7
: In this section, you are able to send a note to your crafter if you would like to ask for anything specific, or let them know what you are hoping for.
8
: Lastly, you will need to fill out the Commission, or payment, that you are sending your crafter and the duration of your order. The more gold you offer, the happier your crafter will be!
Once you have placed your order, all you need to do is wait! Once the crafter has accepted and completed your order, or your order expires, you will receive your new or returned item in your mailbox!
Crafters
Where to Recraft an Item
If you are a crafter, you have the opportunity to recraft your own items! You can do this right within your own profession menu. The only requirement is that you must be at a Crafting Station in order to complete this task! These stations are spread across the Dragon Isles and can most easily found within The Artisan's Market of Valdrakken, the main city of Dragonflight.
If you are a crafter who is asked by another player to recraft an item, you can look at your personal Crafting Orders through the Crafting Order Tab at the bottom of your profession menu.
Left: Recrafting your own item through the "Recraft Equipment" Ability | Right: Looking at your potential Recrafting Orders within your Personal Crafting Order tab
How to Recraft Your Own Item
This is the window that you will be shown once you select an item to recraft:
1
: This is where it shows you what item you have selected to be recrafted. You will see the icon of your original item as well as your expected outcome. At quick glance, you will see the quality differences (if any), and if you hover over the icon, you will be able to see the original and expected tooltip outcomes. This is where you can see the modified item level, secondary stats, and/or embellishments.
2
: This is where it tells you what items are needed to recraft this item. The items required will depend on the type of item you are recrafting; however,
匠人之勇
will
always
be required.
3
: This section allows you to add, change or remove any Optional Reagents attached to your current crafted item. An important note is that if you remove or replace an Optional Reagent, that reagent is
destroyed
. You cannot get those items back. Depending on the item being recrafted, you may have the option to modify it's item level, embellishments or secondary stats.
4
: Lastly, the Crafting Details section shows you a more in-depth look at your crafting chances. It will show you your current skill level, crafting stat %s as well as your expected quality outcome. You can use this section to determine what quality your recrafted item would be and what skill milestones you must meet to guarantee an improvement. To help with this, you also have the chance to provide any Finishing Reagent you may need.
How to Complete a Recrafting Order
Once you receive a Personal Recrafting Order, you will see it in your Personal Crafting Order menu. Clicking on it will show you this screen:
1
: This first section shows you the details of the buyer. You will see who placed the order, any notes that they might've left you and your expected commission. Keep in mind there is a Consortium Fee, so you will not receive the whole commission given by the buyer.
2
: Next, you will be able to see the item details that is being recrafted. At the top, you will have the name of the item as well as the minimum required quality, if any. In this example, the buyer has set a minimum of Quality 2. It shows you the location and/or tools required to craft the item. For this item, we only have a requirement of being at a Tailoring Work Station. Then lastly, you will see the icon and quality of the current crafted item, and the icon and quality of the expected outcome. You can hover over both of these icons to see their tooltips.
3
: This section shows you the required reagents to recraft this item and any reagents that may have been supplied by the buyer. In our example, our buyer was very kind and has included all reagents. Not all buyers will be this nice, so this is something that you should look at before accepting the order. Keep in mind the quality of reagents that they have sent us as well; these will be used in determining the item's quality.
4
: Next, you have the optional reagents portion of reagents. If the buyer has included any Optional Reagents, they will be displayed here. You can hover over those items to see what they add to the item, and if they affect the Crafting Difficulty of the item at all.
5
: The final major portion of this menu is your Crafting Details. This will show you the Crafting Difficulty of your expected item, what your skill level is in comparison, any sort of bonus stats you may have, and your expected quality. This is a very important section to look at. For example, if someone has sent you an order with a minimum quality of Quality 5, and you can only produce a Quality 3, you should not accept that order. You also have the option to use any Finishing Reagents if you'd like.
6
: Lastly, you have the option to either start or decline the order. If you start the order, you will have 30 minutes to complete it. Once completed, you will have the option to send a note to the buyer with their newly recrafted item. If you decide to decline the order, you will have the opportunity to tell them why you have declined it.
Recrafting Summary
To summarize, Recrafting is a brand new system in Dragonflight that allows players to modify their crafted items without having to purchase or craft a completely new one. Players have the opportunity to recraft their own item if they are skilled enough, or they can send a
Personal
Order to someone else.
The ultimate cost of Recrafting depends on the item you have selected, but it will always require
匠人之勇
, a brand new BoP Crafting Reagent in Dragonflight. During recrafting, if you decide to remove or replace an Optional Reagent, that item will be destroyed and not given back to you.
A possible outcome of Recrafting is that your item's quality may go down. This is not always a bad thing depending on the Optional Reagents you are using, but if you are worried about it, you have the opportunity to set a minimum quality during your order setup. Remember to tip your crafters well and happy Recrafting everyone!

I think this one should be #5 and then #6.

This probably should be "WHEN you have...".
(sorry, I do a lot of editing of my own stuff, so I tend to see these easily)

Question on recrafting and using Illustrious Insight and Lesser Illustrious Insight. While I was able to "add" it to the gear in the finishing reagent section when using it for a personal crafting order from a friend, it never actually applied. It was not consumed, but the skill did not take into affect. My question is how are the finishing reagents supposed to work on recrafting orders? I could use them on my personal crafts, but I could not use the insight or the oil in crafting orders. I also did not see a way to add it when creating a crafting order.

Something I haven't read, you can recraft the same item as many times as you want.

Can you discover new recipes when you recraft? some of the higher level crafts are locked behind discovery.

Also be aware that not only can the item go down in quality, it can go down in item level. I've seen this several times. This is why public crafting orders really really suck. Crafters can troll people by lowering their item level.

Something that was not clear on the guide (or in the system in-game until we discovered it by testing) is that the game seems to "remember" the materials you originally used to craft the item and limits quality accordingly. If you originally craft with Quality 1/2 materials and then try to upgrade, you will need more skill to craft to maximum than crafting from scratch even if you use the maximum possible mats for the recraft.
Hopefully this is a bug/unintented, because this punishes people who crafted early when materials and skill were limited. In the case of some items (Like the Elemental Lariat) since you can't re-use the Illimited Diamond in the recraft, you can ruin your item to be unable to reach max Quality until MUCH later in the expansion.

What happens if you recraft something crafted with Illustrious Insight (+30 skill) -- does the Illustrious Insight keep applying to the recraft?

It seems like you can't recraft gems. Does anyone know if this is intentional?

I tried to recraft a pair of leather pants for myself and remove the embellishment. I found out the hard way that you and can only have 2 items with embellishments. I had all of the reagents and removed the embellishment from the optional reagents but it failed when I hit recraft. I looked it up on several websites including wowhead and it seems to support removing embellishments without adding a new one but doesn't say how. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to waste a spark of ingenuity and 50 primal chaos and have to make a new pair of pants. Thanks!

This is probably a stupid question, but is it possible to get a skill up? Or a First Order? on a recrafting order.
Edit: I partially answered my own question, I got a skill up while recrafting a Profession Tool. Not sure about a First Order.

I have just stumbled upon a potentially interesting piece of information regarding recrafting. I'm not sure if anyone else has commented on this interaction anywhere else, but here is what I've found.
When recrafting an item, the stats of the item seem to "lock in" upon the first craft. This means that recrafting an item with random stats will continually yield the same stats over and over.
The cases where this becomes interesting is when a missive has been used. The stats will in this case still "lock in" on the original craft, and removing the missive for the recraft will lower the difficulty of the craft by 25%, 20% or 15% depending on the quality of the missive, but the stats will not change. This means that you can keep your ideal stats while lowering the difficulty and maybe guarantee a higher quality craft. Crafting an item using a
灼光之龙语公函
will give you an item with haste/mastery and increase the difficulty by 20 points. Recrafting the same item and removing the
灼光之龙语公函
, will reduce the difficulty by 20 points, but still yield a haste/mastery item.
There is also another very interesting case. If you crafted an item with or without a missive, and then later recrafted with a new missive, the stats still "locked in" on the original craft. Removing the new missive will cause the item to revert back to the original stats, no matter if the original stats were random or from a missive. Continuing on the above example. If, instead of just removing the
灼光之龙语公函
, you replace it with a
曙光之龙语公函
you will of course get an item with haste/versatility. Recrafting this item again and removing the
曙光之龙语公函
, will once again lower the difficulty by 20 points, but the stats will revert back to the original haste/mastery. This is also the case if no
灼光之龙语公函
had been used in the first craft, but the random stats just happened to be haste/mastery.
I have been testing this with low level leather pieces, recrafting a few times at each stage. So while it is possible that my findings were just coincidental, it is statistically unlikely. If people try to test this and come to other conclusions, please let me know.

Does anyone know if socket slots get carried over - e.g. recrafting a 3 socket lariat from 424 to 437, does it go back to one socket or retain the three?

In the case of window 5, where the skill point are, it hasn't been clear to me how to raise that skill in the higher stages. For example, I have max spec in Setting/Necklaces (and rings for that matter), but when I'm trying to recraft a Lariat, to ilvl 486, I can't because my skill there shows as 365 (with finishing) and need 380 to reach i486. Then, does this mean I have to keep rasing stats from the other spec tabs to raise the skill on this one?
