Welcome to Wowhead's guide on how to complete a Work Order order using the new Work Order system! Here you'll find step by step instructions to interact with the new Dragonflight feature - all updated with the latest information!
The Importance of Work Orders in Dragonflight
Players may be wondering why and how the new Work Order system affects the average person. Will it be mandatory to interact with it? Will you have to grind Professions yourself to take advantage of it? Will it act like a normal Auction House, or is it more complicated?
Luckily, the new system is intuitive and easy to use- and opens the door to a whole new world of crafting possibilities. Whereas before, Soulbound crafts were restricted to the Crafter themselves, now Players can request to obtain those items without having to learn the required Profession - meaning Players don't have to feel locked in to a specific set of Professions and can instead play how they want.
With an interface almost identical to the Auction House, Players will be able to place orders for craftable items they wish to purchase, and Crafters then fill those orders. The created item is automatically sent to the Player's mailbox, again much like the auction house, making Work Orders quick, easy, efficient, and quite possibly one of the best Professions updates since the creation of World of Warcraft.
Differences between Public and Personal Crafting Orders in Dragonflight
While the vast majority of the Work Order process is the same, there are some differences between a Public and Personal crafting order.
Public
Work Orders can be seen by anyone on your server with the appropriate profession, and can be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Personal
Work Orders are sent directly to a specific player, and can only be completed by that player.
Guild
Work Orders serve as a sort of in-between: not fully Public, but also not Personal, these orders can be seen by anyone within your Guild who has the appropriate Profession.
Personal
and
Guild
Work Orders have no limits on the amount you can fulfill.
Public
Work Orders, however, are capped at 4. Players can regain 1 Work Order per day, so try to fill orders as they become available to prevent "wasting" potential crafts.
With recent changes to the system,
Public
Work Orders now have the option to allow Crafters to provide materials. Whereas before, players commissioning the product would have to provide every single material, Public orders now function more akin to Guild and Personal orders. Soulbound reagents such as
灵思火花
and
枯竭的原始混沌
are still the responsibility of the player placing an order.
Guild
and
Personal
orders function the same as they did on launch.
Quality can only be specified for
Guild
and
Personal
Work Orders. If you place a
Public
work order, you get what you get!
Where are Crafting Order Stations in Dragonflight
While some of us may be used to our
雄壮商队雷龙的缰绳
providing a mobile Auction House, Work Orders return us to a time when you had to go to a dedicated location to browse the market. Players can find Crafting Order Clerks ready to take their orders in the Artisan's Market in Valdrakken (/way 34, 61), marked on their minimap by a large gold Gavel icon. The located in Valdrakken is located to the left of the Flight Point and Auction House
The Artisan's Market Crafting Order station.
Players can additionally find another Crafting Order station at Forkriver Crossing in the Ohn'ahran Plains, Morqut Village in the Forbidden Reach, and Crafters can access the Work Order interface while near their Crafting Benches.
Clerks at the Valdrakken Artisan's Market Crafting Order station, ready to take your order!
How to Complete a Work Order
Almost as simple as crafting normally, completing a Work Order in Dragonflight is fairly self explanatory. Crafters will interact with this system primarily through their Crafting Bench. When close to the bench, not only can you conduct your crafting, but a third tab called "Crafting Orders" will become active next to Specializations.
On the Crafting Orders tab, you will be able to choose between Public Orders, which shows a list of all currently available crafts, Guild Orders, which shows any crafts commissioned by guildmates, or Personal Orders, which will show if you have any pending orders that have been sent directly to you.
Author's Note: since the launch of Dragonflight, the Public Work Order cap has been further reduced from 20 to 4.
Completing a Work Order Interface
By clicking into an order, Crafters are brought to the Crafting Screen. This screen has several sections to it:
1:
The Player that placed the Order, as well as their note to you. Be sure to read the note for any extra instructions - or, alternatively, there is a button to Ignore the Player if anything inappropriate was written.
2:
Crafters will definitely want to pay attention to this section- it's about how you get paid! A transparent calculation is laid out, showing your final cut after crafting.
3:
To claim the Crafting Order, you'll want to click the Start Order button. Keep in mind that once the order is started, you will have 30 minutes to fulfill the order.
4:
Here you will find the name and recipe for the craft you will perform. Public work orders will have all Reagents provided, but Private orders may not- always double check!
5:
Your crafting details are listed here, the same as you would find them in your Recipes tab. Make sure that if an order specifies a minimum Quality, you are able to create that item at the proper skill level- if Players pay for a Rank 3, they want a Rank 3!
Completing a Work Order
Once you start the order, it may initially seem like nothing happened. However, three things have changed on your screen:
The first is that you now have a timer showing the amount of time left on the claimed order. If you do not complete the order within the 30 minute allotment, it is released back into the Work Order list.
The Start Order button has now changed into a Cancel Order button- if you need to cancel an order for any reason, it's quick, easy, and the polite thing to do- don't hold someone up when they could have their craft fulfilled by someone else!
Finally, in the bottom right corner of the interface, a Create button has appeared: clicking that will finish the order in one go, bringing you to the Completion Screen.
The Completion Screen gives you a summary of the craft you just completed: Your cut, the Buyer, and any notes that they left you. You'll have an opportunity to write a thank-you note to the customer as well. Finally, you'll notice a timer underneath your cut information- if this timer ticks down to 0 without you officially completing the order, at this stage it will auto-complete and send the finished product to the Buyer. You can't forget and have a pending order because of this- eventually, it will make its way out, and you'll get your gold!
Once you click Complete Order, that's it- you'll get your cut instantly, and can move on to the next order. It's as simple as listing an item on the Auction House!

One thing missing, where are crafting benches (or crafting tables as they're referred to on the interface in game) located?

Is there a good list of all the crafting table locations out there for professions now? (i.e. all the ones outside of Valdrakken)
Here are the ones found so far based on comments on this article. It's all I can find so far.
Engineering:
- Waking Shores (location unknown)
- Azure Span (66,25)
Enchanting:
- Azure Span (66,25)
Inscription:
- Azure Span (location unknown)
I can try to keep this updated as we find and list more.

best place to check for crafting tables is in the comments on the profession guides. For some reason the people writing these guides didn't think that was important...

I wish they had just made the items BOE instead of creating an entirely new and unnecessary system.

Why does a crafting order (personal) I made for an alt take so long to even show up?

I have 1 working order per day, the guide says 5 but all I get is one and its not getting any more. am I doing something wrong or the guide is wrong?

I am not sure that I understand what this new feature is supposed to achieve. Most if not all profession items are BoE. Most are also already for sale on AH, in some cases for less than the regeants required to make them. Work orders could make sense if:
1. Crafted items were BoP so crafters had no choice but to use the system.
2. The Crafting Bench would be linked to the AH so you could automatically buy the regeants and have them mailed to the crafter instead of having to also use AH, in which case, you'd be better off just buying the damn item from there.
3. Both the buyer and the crafter would be rewarded in a convincing way by using the system. Maybe give crafters points to invest in their professions, besides the tip that the buyer leaves. For buyers not sure what would be the incentive though, maybe a special regeants that they can add to the order to make the item better? Or combine multiple professions, such as ordering a Chest Piece, adding sockets to it, enchanting it and also placing certain gems in the sockets all at once?
I play on an EU server that has a very high population all day everyday and I have not found a single order placed by anyone for over a month. Maybe people are doing only guild orders, but still, I don't think Blizzard thought this through, just like the Class Glyph system from back in the days.

I took the order, clicked create, and NOTHING happened. No matter how many times I click create, still the same screen. Nice.

Do people not use this system? I just got to the part where I unlocked it (late to the game, I just recently got back into WOW) and I notice that every time I come to the station to fill an order, there is nothing to fill. I clicked on search, I've gone through all the recipes in the list, even those I don't have and it is totally blank. I have a travellers log quest thing that tells me to complete 10 of these things, but I can't do a single one. My profession is Inscription.

I sincerely hope they drop the Dragonflight professions and orders systems for next xpac, and implement something that is more rewarding, engaging, and far less punitive. I don't necessarily desire profs to be 'easy', just not this torturous hot mess.
