Welcome to the Maw of Souls M+ Guide. This guide will assume that you have a basic understanding of the mechanics of the trash and bosses that are outlined in
our Maw of Souls Dungeon Guide
. This Guide will go over common routes to achieve trash count, indicate difficult trash packs at high keystones and provide tips for affixes.
Composition
When doing high keystones in Maw of Souls, we would recommend the following things in your composition:
Interrupts
- Interrupts will be required on multiple mobs to prevent heals and CC effects on the party. At least two short cooldown (15 seconds) kicks are necessary.
AoE Stun
- Some of the deadly trash in the dungeon is stunnable.
Route Advice
The most general way to achieve mob count in Maw of Souls is as follows:
Pull all the trash in the first area, before King Ymiron.
In the boat -- pull the pack of
浸水的灵魂卫士
, the
海咒快刀手
on the left and the addition pack on the right at the first interaction. Follow the corridor and pull all mobs on the left side of the boat which includes the Grimewalker.
On top of the boat -- pull all mobs on the left side of the boat, plus the single
海拉加尔勇士
on the right.
There are two minor skips that allow you to skip trash packs. For every pack you skip, you'll have to make up the mob count somewhere else.
Before Ymiron
Players are able to skip the first two mobs of the instance by hugging the left wall and running along the skeletal bones.
Walk up the slope to the left and along these bones to skip the first two mobs.
After Ymiron
As keystone levels continue to increase, the
守夜水手
becomes incredibly dangerous and
污泥行者
has a lot of health. This is made even worse on Fortified weeks. It may be worth to save time and deaths by using an Invisibility Potion.
Clear up to and including the
迷雾猎犬
pack, but make sure not to pull the
守夜水手
as it patrols through the
迷雾猎犬
!
When the
守夜水手
is on the other side of the ship near the Grimewalker, use your Invisibility potions and run past them.
Mob Count
Maw of Souls requires 150 points worth of mob kills. On Teeming, Maw of Souls requires 180 points worth of mob kills. Below is a table that shows you the value of each creature.

King Ymiron
King Ymiron will become incredibly lethal on high keystones and have a high chance of killing your Tank:

deals an incredible amount of damage, and Tanks should aim to have cooldowns for every cast.
Protection Warriors can use

every other
黑暗鞭笞
. This will deal a massive amount of damage back to Ymiron!
The most dangerous
黑暗鞭笞
is the one during the
灾祸
cast since adds will be hitting the Tank as well.
亡者嚎叫
can be dispelled if a player is hit, but remember this will do a large amount of damage as well.
The damage is dealt first before the Fear effect is applied.
This means that Death Knights who may use
反魔法护罩
on lower difficulties to avoid running out, may have their
反魔法护罩
broken from the damage and then become feared.
灾祸
be handled differently on high keystones.
The skeleton adds summoned from
亡者复生
will melee very hard and since Patch 7.2 are no longer able to be stunned preventing their high damage.
It's important to soak as many
灾祸
as the party can safely do so to reduce the number of adds summoned.
Each
灾祸
does a large amount of damage to the player and light party damage, so it's important to watch your health pool before running into the
灾祸
.
Every skeleton will also apply Necrotic to the tank.
King Ymiron has no good place to reset Necrotic.
These two combined means that you will want to reduce the number of adds summoned during
亡者复生
as much as possible.
Be careful when soaking
亡者复生
if Quaking is active as it may drop you lower than expected.
Every
亡者复生
soaked will likely cause Grievous. You'll have to be more careful soaking
亡者复生
which means more adds spawning at the end of the cast.
Every
亡者嚎叫
will cause Grievous to the entire party. Use cooldowns to quickly top players up.
Trash to King Ymiron
The
海咒奴隶
and
海咒护魂者
are very deadly to players and the hardest hitting trash in the instance.
带钩长矛
can be applied to the same player multiple times, but different Slavers.
Dispel the ranged
带钩长矛
debuff so they are not pulled into the
带钩长矛
cast.
带钩长矛
can be interrupted using displacement effects and stuns and will not be cast again for some time.
海咒护魂者
have two major abilities:
挑衅打击
and
死水冲击
挑衅打击
will be directed towards a random players and the Soulkeeper will head in that direction until the end of the cast.
HOWEVER
, if the
海咒护魂者
uses
挑衅打击
and collides with a wall, he will instead break from his linear path and follow the tank. Try to not be standing between a close wall and the
海咒护魂者
This makes it dangerous for melee to be hitting it.
Scalecommander Emberthal
can be applied to all players and hits VERY hard.
Dispelling the debuff will instantly detonate it. There is no way to avoid the damage.
Only the player with the debuff can see its range, indicated by a blue circle.
Healers should avoid dispelling the debuff and affected players should spread out and use a personal cooldown.
The
海咒护魂者
have more health than the rest of the mobs. Make sure to focus any
海咒护魂者
in the packs.
The
被诅咒的飞鹰
will also applying Bolstering when killed. Pull all the Dread Ravens together before moving on to the two packs before Ymiron.
When the
海咒护魂者
is Raging,
死水冲击
may one-shot players. Focus the Soulkeeper down when it's under 30% to avoid extra deaths.
Try to keep
海咒奴隶
s stunned when Raging, or dodge
带钩长矛
by moving at least 8 yards away to avoid the nasty DoT.
The
被诅咒的飞鹰
will also applying Bolstering when killed. Pull all the Dread Ravens together between the other trash.
Harbaron
The Harbaron encounter only has a few mechanics, but the most important is
空间之镰
as it will likely one shot players on high keystones.
空间之镰
has a quick cast and is targeted on a random member of the raid.
It has a ground effect, but it's very difficult to see. Instead, focus on which direction the boss is facing.
It's important to leave a spot for you to dodge
空间之镰
and not trap yourself between other mechanics.
The remaining mechanics are not nearly as punishing:
The target of
破碎
should walk into melee, so all the Soul Fragments spawn around the boss. They can and should be stunned!
破碎
does a lot of damage to the player and healers should spam heal that player.
召唤被禁锢的仆从
will spawn on a random ranged player and the boss should be brought over to allow for melee cleave and interrupts.
Ranged should try to make sure there is no
虚空撕裂
between them and the boss and to quickly move out of
虚空撕裂
pools.
There is no good time to reset Necrotic stacks on this boss. However, Harbaron does have a lot of short time casts, that can be used to gain some distance and hope for a lucky reset.
Trash to Harbaron
Some of the Trash to Harbaron is stunnable, while others aren't. If you're lacking kicks, you should use stuns to interrupt on certain mobs and use kicks on the mobs which are immune to stuns:

海咒雾疗师
are stunnable in this area.
The
守夜水手
is the most deadly monster in this instance.
All DPS and the healer should have cooldowns when you pull.
You should make sure to not pull the
守夜水手
with any other monster.
Some other tips for this trash include:
刺骨尖叫
, a high priority interrupt, will always be cast the second that
幽灵怒火
fades.
The
海咒快刀手
will prioritizing
深谙水性
after reaching 50% health.
Players can stun the
海咒快刀手
to delay his application, or risk a 50% hit chance stun after the application of the buff to negate his dodge chance.
海咒快刀手
can be deadly for tanks as they will cast
非常邪恶之击
with no warning and bypass physical reduction abilities. You'll have to do your best to guess when this ability is coming in.
迷雾猎犬
will jump to a random ranged target and dealing damage. Try to have ranged stack close and use a defensive cooldown as multiple leaps will probably kill the player.
海咒快刀手
that are currently using
狡诈打击
will not be affected by Bolstering from killed mobs during this time.
Make sure to pull and kill the
变压脉冲电容器
separately from every other pack and especially not with the
守夜水手
as this will result in a wipe.
Continue focusing any
海咒护魂者
as they will have the highest health in multi-mob packs.
Most of this trash is not stunnable, which means that the best way to reset Necrotic stacks is to kill the mobs.
However, the respawn point is relatively close, so if the tank dies, the party can possibly recover using some kiting.
A
守夜水手
that uses
黑暗提灯
while Raging will most likely be a wipe.
Players should aim to hit 30% as the cast of a
黑暗提灯
ends and burst it down before the next cast.
There isn't much space to work with in the ship, so tanks should try to kill the creatures next to the wall to make sure there's still room for both players and the mobs to stand.
Helya
For Phase 1, its important to note that only
毁灭触须
are affected by Tyrannical and neither are affected by Fortified.
The
毁灭触须
will apply
迅捷割裂
a DoT that will automatically stack to 3 on its own, which causes it to do a massive amount of damage to the Tank. Use cooldowns liberally on this ability.
毁灭触须
are the highest priority target as each one needs to die before the next one spawns.
The
贪食触须
have very large hitboxes and can be cleaved very easily.
This greatly increases the chance of future
毁灭触须
spawns in the front center which allows for easy cleave.
There is no location at the front of the ship where more
尖锐触须
can break through.
Make sure to interrupt every
洪流
. A two-person interrupt rotation is sufficient (~15 second cooldown each).
闪现术
-like effects often fail on this section of the boat. Make sure that you can quickly run out of any
腐化咆哮
casts in your direction.
Due to the nature of the ship, Explosive orbs can spawn almost anywhere on the ship in Phase 2.
In Phase 1, both types of tentacles can spawn Explosive orbs and ranged should take care of the ones away from the Destructor Tentacle.
Every
海洋污染
will likely cause Grievous on the entire party.
Trash to Helya
Most of the trash to Helya has been seen before, except for the mini-boss Skjal at the end.
The most deadly ability of Skjal is
绝不留情
. On high keystones, this will likely one-shot any player hit.
It's sometimes very difficult to see the clones, but Skjal will always briefly turn in that direction with his real model.
Ranged should remain relatively close to the boss to avoid Skjal teleporting a large distance away.
Skjal has a habit of casting
衰弱怒吼
directly after a
绝不留情
, so prioritize using ranged interrupts for this instance.
Keep constant cleave on the adds to avoid extra damage.
After Skjal is killed, any remaining adds can be forced to despawn by jumping down into Helya's area. However, this keeps you in combat for a longer duration.
Due to the nature of the boat, a Balance Druid's
星辰坠落
and Guardian Druid's
痛击
with
丝瓜裹腕
and
平衡亲和
have a chance to pierce the deck and tag any unkilled creatures in the boat below. It's rare, but can happen.
Skjal's adds do not cast Bolstering on death.
There is no good place to reset Necrotic on Skjal, and his fight can take a long time depending on the week.
Furthermore, if adds are left up for a long time, they will each apply a large number of stacks to the Tank.
The adds can be stunned and quickly killed to prevent many stacks from applying to your tank.
A Raging
绝不留情
will kill any player hit. Make sure to avoid his cast!
