Welcome to our Raidbots guide!
Raidbots
is a website made by
Seriallos
which allows players to run character simulations online, in order to analyze and compare performance, talents, gear, encounter styles, and more. In this guide we'll explain how Raidbots works and how to simulate your character, along with what all the different settings and options do. Raidbots is updated frequently in order to bring the best tools to the Warcraft community.
What are SimulationCraft and Raidbots?
SimulationCraft
(aka SimCraft or SimC) is a community developed and maintained program which simulates World of Warcraft characters in a raid environment under a variety of conditions, in order to analyze gear, rotations, performance, and statistical interactions over several thousand iterations. In simple terms, it replicates what happens during in-game combat, so that players can compare gear sets and better optimize their character's performance. Primarily used for assessing DPS, healer and tank support is currently limited.
Raidbots
acts as a web-interface for SimCraft, granting all the functionality of SimulationCraft, using their own dedicated servers. This allows users to take advantage of the myriad of customization options available with SimulationCraft, without having to learn the syntax or keep up with frequent SimulationCraft updates. It's important to remember that Raidbots uses SimulationCraft and is only a way to run it on the cloud. If you know how SimulationCraft works, you know how Raidbots works.
Importing Your Character in Raidbots
There are two ways to import your character into Raidbots to start running simulations: The SimulationCraft Addon or the WoW Armory.
SimulationCraft Addon
First, download the
SimulationCraft addon
. Simply install it as any other addon, and then use the command
/simc
in game to open a window with all of your current character information. Copy that information, then paste it into the field marked "Load from SimC Addon".
Importing via the Armory
Otherwise, characters can also be imported from the WoW Armory. Simply select your Region and Realm, and then type your character's name and it will automatically be imported. There are a couple of downsides to importing using the Armory rather than the SimC addon; it requires logging out of your character to update gear or talent changes, and some features like Top Gear require extra information about gear in your bags that need the addon to work.
Simulation Types in Raidbots
Raidbots provides many different tools for simulating your character, allowing you to quickly and easily assess different factors, whether it's gear, talents, potential upgrades, or more.
Find Your Best Gear with Top Gear in Raidbots
Top Gear is the most comprehensive tool on Raidbots, and the easiest one to use to make quick comparisons for your character. Select all of the gear and talent loadouts you want to compare and every combination of them will be simulated in order to find the best set for you. Top Gear requires that you import your character's profile via the SimulationCraft addon.
Comparing Talent Loadouts with Raidbots
Although there are too many combinations of talents possible to realistically sim every single talent combination, there are a couple of ways to compare different builds. Firstly, all your saved builds are listed as options you can select to compare with, so if you want to compare a few specific builds with different sets of gear, this is the easiest and quickest way to do so. You can also add custom loadouts or copy one of your current builds and then edit it.
Alternatively, if you want to sim a variety of different talent combinations, you can use the "generate combinations" button. This will automatically add every possible combination of potential talent choices to the sim, so you will need to narrow it down significantly - you can provide the base of a tree and let it try all the combinations of the last few points you have left, or you can otherwise right click abilities when they're not talented to prevent them from being used in any talent combinations.
Comparing Enchants & Gems with Raidbots
With Top Gear, you can compare different enchants and gems either on new items that you've acquired, or on gear you're currently using to see if different enchants or gems would perform better. Select all of the options you want to compare, and choose whether to replace enchantments on your current gear or to only apply them to unenchanted gear. You can also add sockets to your gear to compare what the best options will be once you add sockets to them with
风暴充能操纵器
or
多层勋章镶嵌底座
.
Finding Your Best Next Upgrade with the Raidbots Droptimizer
The Droptimizer allows you to choose a type of content and see all of the potential gear upgrades you can get from it. You can use it to find upgrades from raids, dungeons, PvP, or world bosses. After choosing the content type, you pick the difficulty or item level to compare them at, and can also choose whether to add gem sockets as well. Once finished simulating, it will display a list with each item and how much of an upgrade (or downgrade) it would be for your character.
Enchants are copied from your current gear, so if a new item might be an upgrade with a different enchant on it, it won't be displayed as such using Droptimizer. For classes that can either use a two-handed weapon or two one-handed weapons like Monk or Death Knight, it will also only compare weapons of the same type as you currently have equipped, ie. only one-handed weapons if you have one-handed weapons equipped. For items that could be used in multiple slots, like trinkets, rings, or one-handed weapons, they'll be compared in both slots and the highest result displayed.
Quick Sim
This is the quickest and most basic simulation, analyzing performance without comparisons. That doesn't necessarily make it less useful, however, as it will also provide you with a basic damage breakdown and a sample ability sequence, which can both be very informative when studying how simulations perform rotations.
Comparing Best Sets of Gear with Raidbots
Gear Compare allows you to create multiple copies of the same base profile, with different adjustments to your gear, in order to create a comparison between them. You don't need to own the piece of gear, simply search for the item you're looking for, set its item level and any relevant gems, enchants, or other factors, and create your own comparisons.
Best Stat Weights with Raidbots
Like it sounds, a Stat Weights simulation will create a set of primary and secondary stat weights, computed by adding a given number of points to each individual stat, and then comparing the result with base reference. While it can be interesting to see how much more a stat might increase your damage by, it's important to remember that stat weights are extremely volatile, and it's not at all uncommon for some specialization's stat weights to change considerably each time a gear change is made. For this reason, you might find yourself continually re-gemming and enchanting your gear between two closely weighted stats as they continually leapfrog one another. For many situations like choosing the stats for gems or enchants, Top Gear will provide more accurate results, and it's highly recommended you just use that for choosing gear instead.
Advanced
Advanced is a standard simulation, but allows specialized SimulationCraft scripting which is otherwise disabled. Meant for the experienced SimulationCraft user, it allows commands such as spell overrides, custom target scripts, profile sets, plots, and more. More information on those features can be found on the
SimulationCraft wiki
. Using Advanced requires the SimulationCraft addon to import your character's profile.
With Advanced, you can compare extra options that you aren't able to with the other sim types - for example, you can find out the damage difference for racials by using profile copies inserted below the main profile:
copy="Human"
race=human
copy="Blood Elf"
race=blood_elf
There's many other useful things you can use with Advanced that other types don't allow, and although most people wouldn't have a use for it rather than simply using Top Gear or Droptimizer, it's a valuable tool for more specialized sims.
Dragonflight Options in Raidbots
Trinkets & Temporary Weapon Consumables
Weapon Rune
: By default the appropriate type of weapon rune or sharpening stone will be selected, but if you want to choose it yourself the option is also available.
Trinket Options
: Currently there is only one Dragonflight trinket with extra options to choose. These options let you compare trinkets under different circumstances to find how their value might change.
低语化身圣像
: Choose which other roles are also using the trinket in your party or raid group.
Raidbots Tips & Tricks
While using basic Raidbots functions is fairly straightforward, there are a couple of ways you can use extra tools to get a little bit more out of it.
Finding your Best Great Vault Loot Option with Raidbots
Comparing items from your Great Vault is just as easy as normal items. With your Great Vault open and the options visible, type
/simc
and copy and paste the information into Top Gear as usual. Top Gear will then include pieces from your Great Vault, which will be denoted with a
GV
flag on the item:
Select the items to compare, run the sim, and it will provide all of the information you need to help you decide which item to choose.
Simulating Power Infusion in Raidbots
If you're curious about how
能量灌注
might affect your damage, you can add it as an external buff that gets applied to your character every two minutes. First, open the Custom APL and SimC Options tab that should appear at the bottom of every page, then add this code:
external_buffs.power_infusion=0/120/240
Once you add it, it should look like this:
Afterwards, simply configure the simulation the same way you'd do normally, and it will include
能量灌注
in the results. You can change the timing that you receive the buff as well, for example for every three minutes instead of two you could use 0/180 instead of 0/120/240. Other external buffs can be simmed the same way; you can find the
full list here
.
Adding Extra Items to your Sim in Raidbots
Sometimes you might want to know how that potential upgrade would work with your current gear, but don't want to have to create a ton of different gearsets in Gear Compare to see all the item combinations. Instead, there are a couple of different ways you can add the item to your Top Gear sim to compare different options.
The easy way is to simply link the item in chat after you type
/simc
and before you press enter, and it'll be added to your profile as an item in your bags.
The hard way is to look up the item ID and manually add it. You can find an item ID by looking it up here on Wowhead, and then copying it from the URL - eg. the item ID for
低语化身圣像
is 194301. The format you should use to add an item is:
#trinket1=,id=xxxxxx,ilevel=yyy
Change the slot to whatever item slot the item you want to sim belongs to, and edit the item ID and item level as well. Paste this below the rest of your profile you got from typing
/simc
.
Advanced Options
There are also many other options available, and while there's nothing wrong with leaving them at their default settings, they can be useful to those who understand how they work.
Fight Style
: These are predefined encounter types, covering a range of different historical bosses. Clearly, a single-target encounter such as Hungering Destroyer is very different from a multi-target one like Stone Legion Generals, and will change both the simulated character's actions and resulting performance. While they don't exactly replicate every current encounter down to the last detail, they aren't meant to, as players trying to juggle a dozen or more different gear sets for each encounter isn't practical. Instead, they cover the common most important situations, so that the player can choose how they want to prioritize. If that's not enough, you can always create your own custom encounter events using the Advanced simulations option.
Patchwerk
: Is a single target, no adds, no movement, nothing special boss encounter. In spite of being the simplest option, it is the standard for single target simulations, precisely because its lack of mechanics eliminates variables which would otherwise greatly weight one class, specialization, or set of talents, over another. Based on its namesake from Naxxramas.
Dungeon Slice
: Designed to model a "slice" of a dungeon. Fixed at a length of 6 minutes, it involves a short "boss" fight followed by packs of enemies of varying sizes and health amounts. This is the go to fight style if you're trying to sim for Mythic+.
Target Dummy
: Simulates damage when fighting a target dummy; all raid buffs, debuffs, and consumables are disabled and its health is fixed at 100%.
Execute Patchwerk
: A Patchwerk encounter that starts at 20% health. Useful for optimizing execute damage.
Hectic Add Cleave
: Consists of a single boss target, waves of 5 adds for 15 seconds every 22 seconds, and constant moderate movement, HAC is useful for approximating heavy multi-target encounters. Loosely based on Horridon from Throne of Thunder.
Light/Heavy Movement
: As it sounds, a single target Patchwerk-like encounter, with light or heavy movement throughout.
Casting Patchwerk
: Identical to Patchwerk, except the boss target continually chain casts spells, to model continual interrupts and incoming spell damage.
Cleave Add
: A Patchwerk encounter with an extra add that spawns frequently and is active about 60% of the time.
Number of Bosses
: This is the number of boss targets present during the simulated encounter, with the ability to add more in order to replicate council fights. Outside of Patchwerk, generally it's best left at one target, since changing the Fight Style is a better way of assessing multitarget encounters, and it's rare to have more than one boss target up for an entire fight.
Fight Length
: Adjust the average length of the simulated encounter. By default, there is a +/- 20% variation on the duration of sims, so a 5 minute sim will actually range between 4-6 minutes.
SimC Version
: Weekly or Nightly. Weekly versions are more stable, but don't always have the latest hotfixes, while Nightly versions are updated at 11pm PST each night, with any and all SimC updates, but may occasionally contain bugs or mistakes.
Iterations
: The number of times that a simulation is run, with higher numbers increasing the accuracy and reducing variance, but also taking more time. While a higher number of iterations creates a result closer to the average, there is such a thing as overkill, and higher values rarely provide any statistical impact except when doing the most detailed statistical analysis. The default "Smart Sim" option will automatically select the appropriate number of iterations based on the type of simulation and number of variables involved.
Raid Buffs & Consumables
Raid Buff Presets
: This toggle controls
all
buffs and debuffs, including
奥术智慧
,
战斗怒吼
,
混乱烙印
,
玄秘掌
,
真言术:韧
,
嗜血
,
风怒图腾
,
野性印记
, whether the target is bleeding, Potions, Food, Flasks, and Augmentation Runes.
Consumables
: By default, each class/specialization module has its own default Potion, Food, Flask, and Augment Rune, which is uses according to its own stipulations. This option overrides or disables those selections.
Raid Buffs
: Similar to the Presets above, these options allow group buffs and debuffs to be toggled individually, rather than all or nothing. As a general rule all buffs should be enabled if you're simming for a raid environment, except
风怒图腾
if you don't have an Enhancement Shaman in your raid.
Custom APLs & Extra Options
The Action Priority List is the logic that controls which and when each spell is used during the simulation. The default APL is already built into the class/specialization module, but this option allows you to override it with your own. Note that it requires specific syntax, so unless you know what you're doing this is generally best left blank.
This field also allows you to add extra options such as external buffs, as mentioned above, or adjust other variables like the average time it takes the shield from
暗月套牌:看护者
to be depleted and provide Versatility. The
full list of Dragonflight options
can be found on the
SimulationCraft Wiki
.
The Full HTML Report
While Raidbots output UI is very clean and easy to read, an often overlooked feature is the ability to open the full HTML report created by SimulationCraft, which offers an
extensive
review of everything that happened during the simulation with charts, graphs, analytical breakdowns, sample sequence tables showing the exact order and time each ability was used, and more. This is the true data dump, which theorycrafters use to do their work. It can be found by using the bottom most link on the Simulation Details pane on the normal results page.
This can be useful if you want to find out specific buff uptimes, how abilities are used depending on different resource amounts, average casts and damage amounts per ability, resource overcap and how they're generated or used, downtime, and more. There's a lot of information presented, most of which won't usually be useful to the average player, but if you want to do a deep dive into the maths behind your specialization then this is the best place to find that data.
Raidbots Premium
Although using Raidbots is free, it does have a
paid premium option
if you would like to support it financially. Benefits from premium include a higher iteration cap allowing for more gear combinations to be simmed at once, more Droptimizer options, and a skip to the front of the queue for any simulations you run. It's still an excellent tool to use regardless of whether you have these perks or not, but they do make using it a little bit easier.
Disclaimer
Simulationcraft is a tool, and like all tools is only as good as you use it. Raidbots offers an unprecedented ease of access, but it's important to remember that SimulationCraft is a community maintained project which is constantly evolving. Hotfixes and new features are added daily, though anyone who plays WoW should know that software development isn't always bug free. If you see an issue, think something isn't quite right, or have a suggestion for improvement, report it on the
SimC Github
, so that the maintainers can address it and help make a more effective tool for everyone.

This is a great and comprehensive guide for anyone that is new to simming their character, thank you Sholdice.
As a side note, for those people that want to have more control over the simulations, you can try Simulation Craft software.

Slight correction/note. You can use /simc and get the gear in your bank included as long as you have the bank open. If you are doing this just make sure you don't also have your character screen open or it won't work.

Was used with AskMrRobot then redirected to Raidbots by couple guild members that told me this is more accurate. Well, accepting the chance that I may be called a total ignorant I must say that I was totally lost in translation. All those settings literally blocked my brain to the point where I wonder if there's a paid service that helps players making their perfect setup. Considering this AskMrRobot even if innacurate as some are saying looks like that "better than nothing" thing to return to. No offence Raidbots.
