This guide to leveling the Warlock in Dragonflight will provide a basic look at leveling your Warlock in Dragonflight, including reviews and ratings of the dominant specializations, links to leveling talent builds, tips for best and fastest leveling, gear, leveling professions, and links to class guides you'll need to make the best decisions going forward.
We will also include Pre-Patch information for the period leading up to November 28th, 2022, when Dragonflight launches and you'll move your leveling to the Dragon Isles.
Leveling Warlocks in Dragonflight
Warlocks are a DPS caster class that focuses on enslaving demons and using dark energies to curse, DoT, and destroy their enemies. Despite some differences in playstyle, Warlock specs are all very strong leveling specs, able to handle a variety of content with some protection and extra damage afforded by their chosen demons. With improved access to self-healing and passive damage reductions in Shadowlands, Warlocks are stronger than ever in the solo leveling field.
Warlocks are one of those classes that can often take on group quests solo, as well as take on tough single-target mobs that would challenge other classes.
Strengths and Weaknesses of Warlock Leveling in Dragonflight
Warlocks have one Class tree that applies to all Warlocks, and three Specialization trees for Affliction, Demonology, and Destruction. Affliction relies primarily on multi-dotting and AoE, Demonology uses their abilities along with an army of various summoned demons, and Destruction relies primarily on overwhelming burst damage.
Warlocks only have a few weaknesses. They lack immunities, and don't really have any way to speed up their ability to get around other than the
恶魔传送门
and
恶魔法阵
for short hops. Overall mobility out of combat is unexceptional.

Warlock Leveling Specs in Dragonflight
While you can level successfully as any class, some talent builds are more friendly to leveling than others. If you're planning to level in a group, what talent spec you pick will matter less, as there are more players to fill in for weaknesses. These recommendations are our class writers' picks for most efficient leveling builds in all types of play.
Best Leveling Spec for Warlocks
Warlock is one of the few classes where all
three specs
are good solo specs -- it just depends on experience, cadence, and desired playstyle. Affliction is the classic dot-and-kite class, with some great AoE tools thrown in for good measure. Demonology is more about putting emphasis on the pets to do the heavy lifting, with the Warlock playing the damage support role. Destruction is for those who prefer the big booms and huge burst damage.
For beginners wishing to try out the class,
Demonology
is by far the most forgiving of the three builds, and the safest in terms of survivability. Affliction is a better choice for beginners than Demonology, although learning how to get the spread-and-AoE cadence down takes a little practice.
Our class writers have put together comprehensive leveling guides that cover viability, tips, builds, leveling rotation, cooldowns, and leveling consumables. A brief summary of each follows:
Leveling Affliction Warlocks
Affliction Warlocks are the rulers of multi-dotting targets for awesome spread damage, then using their AoE abilities to wipe out their dying targets. Their Voidwalker pet is enough to keep their enemies from focusing on the real source of the danger. With their talents offering even more survivability, Affliction is an amazing leveling build, and great in endgame.

Leveling Demonology Warlocks
Demonology Warlocks have a built-in response to the question "you and whose army?" Even with just the Felguard and a few imps, most Demonology Warlock can slice through content easily. While the spec doesn't do the level of damage either Affliction or Destruction offer, the extra insulation of their even more enslaved demons makes them more survivable and better able to take on the most difficult quest objectives.

Leveling Destruction Warlocks
Destruction is the single-target/very small group target specialist of the Warlock world between
混乱之箭
and
浩劫
. AoE is decent with help from
召唤地狱火
, which has a longish cooldown. They don't have as many DoTs as Affliction, but can use what they have to good effect, using the Voidwalker as a normal tank to keep aggro off.

Best Leveling Talent Builds for Warlocks in Dragonflight
If you know what Warlock spec you want, but just want to get straight into making your leveling build, look no further. You can find the direct links to the Best Leveling Talent Builds for Affliction, Demonology, and Destruction Warlocks here.
How to Export and Import Talent Builds
To
export
a build from Wowhead, go to the provided tree and click
Export Talents
in the upper right corner of the talent build. This will copy the appropriate string to your clipboard. If you want to save that talent string to import later, you can copy it to a text editor such as Windows Notepad or Apple's TextEdit.
To
import
a build into your character, open your character's Specialization and Talents window (N). In the bottom left corner over the tabs, select the dropdown and select
Import
. (Starter Build is provided for you by Blizzard, but it's not optimized for a particular activity).
Copy that long string from your Export in the Import Text window, name your loadout, and click save. (A loadout is a set of pre-selected abilities where you can save a set of abilities and talents. This lets you switch specs on the fly for different roles or different purposes, such as raiding, dungeons, or even low-level transmog farming. It's up to you!).
As a bonus, creating loadouts also saves any Action Bar setups you have for that spec, so you can set it up the way you like and return to that configuration when you switch specs.

Best Leveling Gear for Warlocks in Dragonflight
Warlocks can equip the following gear:
Armor Type:
Cloth
Usable Weapons:
Daggers, One-Handed Swords, Staves, Wands
Warlocks' weapons are really stat sticks; you don't actually use them to strike anything, except at the very lowest levels as a desperation move (or occasional amusement). Weapon DPS does not matter one tiny bit, since it contributes nothing to your overall damage. You are looking only for the main stats and secondary stats, nothing more. Daggers and Swords frequently do not have Intellect, so look at them carefully before equipping. Staves generally do, but some are specced for melee combat, so don't automatically choose a Staff without looking first. Enchants that only proc on melee hits are useless to you. While Wands can be semi-useful at the very lowest levels (below level 25 or so) for shooting enemies, it's only a desperation move that you rarely need to resort to anymore. Pick weapons only for stats, period.
Much of the time while you're leveling, you'll be gathering and upgrading gear as you go. You usually do this with a mix of quest drops, dungeon drops, and profession crafted gear.
Gear iLevels for Dragonflight
In Dragonflight, your first gear from quests will be Uncommon items between iLevels 202 and 226. This means if you have geared up using catch-up mechanics from Pre-Patch and/or through raid and Mythic+ in Shadowlands, it might be several levels before you start replacing gear. For example, at level 65, you can get Uncommon quest items, drops, and quality crafted gear at around iLevel 289; this should give you an idea of the approximate level range at which you'll replace gear. All quest and dropped gear items can also upgrade randomly to either Rare or Epic quality, and some crafted gear can be created with higher quality as well.
Although you can start leveling in Dragonflight with an iLevel as low as 150, we recommend a minimum iLevel of 180, which is realistic and easy to get with little to no extra effort.
You can get into a good iLevel range with a combination of dropped gear in 10-60 zones, heirlooms, and crafted gear from the Auction House. You will want a higher iLevel if you wish to start early with dungeon leveling.
Best Leveling Professions for Warlocks in Dragonflight
Most veteran players will have established professions and will wish to level these in Dragonflight. However, bear in mind that while professions are much deeper and richer in Dragonflight than they've been in past expansions, they are also more complicated, requiring a greater investment in time and effort to develop.
Players can have a maximum of two professions. All players can pick up the secondary skills
烹饪
and
钓鱼
.
First Aid
was removed as a separate skill in Battle for Azeroth and is now part of the
裁缝
profession.
For manufacturing professions, Warlocks often choose
裁缝
to make armor for themselves and to sell through the Auction House and Crafting Orders. This is commonly paired with
附魔
, rather than a gathering skill, since you can disenchant unwanted Tailored items for materials. Again, it's probably best to concentrate on leveling these once you've reached maximum level.
For players who don't have professions, we strongly recommend picking up two Gathering professions. At higher levels of Knowledge and Specializations in Dragonflight, you will also gain benefits.
Both
采矿
and
草药学
still provide small amounts of experience for gathering nodes.
剥皮
- with 20 points in
Harvesting
specialization, you get a bonus for your knowledge of anatomy to increase your damage against beasts and dragonkin while outdoors in the Dragon Isles.
草药学
- When you learn the
Mastering the Elements
specialization, you learn to Overload Elemental herbs (Windswept, Frigid, Titan-Touched, and Decayed), which allows you to channel energy into elementally-charged herbs for unique bonuses and effects. You must invest many points both into Mastering the Elements and into the four elemental herb types to get full effects.
采矿
- When you learn the
Mastering the Elements
specialization, you learn to Overload Elemental herbs (Molten, Hardened, Titan-Touched, and Primal), which allows you to channel energy into elemental deposits for unique bonuses and effects. You must invest many points both into Mastering the Elements and into the four elemental mine types to get full effects.
