Preservation Evoker Rotations in Dragonflight
The page is split into three sections: starter rotations to get you started, a more detailed breakdown of key mechanics when you're more confident, and then an advanced section to discuss some specific aspects of the spec.
Basic Evoker Mechanics
If you've already been playing Evoker for a while you can skip this section. It'll mostly go through unique Evoker mechanics like Empowered Spells and Essence.
Empowered Spells
Evokers bring with them a new mechanic called "Empowered Spells". These are special casts that have a greater or different effect the longer you charge them for. We have access to three in
火焰吐息

and
精神之花
. Whenever we refer to them below we'll also include a rank that tells you what level we're charging it to. Rank 1 is the fastest and rank 4 is the slowest.
火焰吐息
is generally always best used at maximum charge due to the
飞扑烈焰
talent.
精神之花
also benefits a lot from a high rank since it heals more targets and does more healing.
梦境吐息
is a bit special in that the healing stays the same, and the rank just controls how much of it is direct healing vs a HoT. For that reason we'll often fire it off at rank 1 or 2.
Essence
Essence is an Evoker secondary resource. You start with 5 of them and they recharge at a rate of 1 per 5 seconds. The recharge rate scales with Haste and there are also a few talents that tie in like:

There are three different ways to spend Essence:

: Costs 3 essence, heals 3-5 targets after a 1.5s delay.

: Costs 2 essence, heals 1 target for a small amount, duplicates a portion of the next healing cast on that target (explained in more detail below).

: Costs 3 essence, channeled DPS spell that does "just ok" damage.
There's also a way to cast an Essence ability without any cost via the
精华迸发
talent. Practically this means that we can turn our Living flame casts (which will usually be offensive) into essence and thus healing. Essence is quite restrictive around our burst windows and so enabling some free casts can be a lot of power. When improving your play you'll want to focus on spending these
精华迸发
procs whenever possible. We also get a lot of Essence Bursts from our tier sets usually.
Preservation Evoker Raid Healing Priority and Rotation
Preservation has a few completely different ways to play so we're going to discuss each in tabs below since each build has different priorities. Both priority lists are on the simple side, so be sure to read the rest of the page once you're comfortable with the basics.
3 When damage is coming in 8-10 seconds, cast

7Combine Verdant Infusion with Emerald Communion during heavy burst damage. This is one of our Lifebind combos and we'll discuss them further down the page.

talent.
Echo V4: Breakdown & Explanation
EchoV4 continues the
回响
tradition of going wide on your raid and then consuming the
回响
buffs with your strongest spells. In season 4 we have two key options and you'll swap between them through each fight:
逆转
: Buffed by our season four 2pc bonus. The sustained / rot counterpart to Verdant Embrace. You'll Echo out Reversion if you're not handling sharp burst damage so you'll cast it most of the time.
青翠之拥
: Extremely good if you need instant healing on your Echo targets, or if you're preparing for a
缚誓生命
combo (discussed further below). Consider this your burst counterpart to Reversion.
梦境吐息
(rare)
: There aren't many strong reasons to Echo Dream Breath instead of Reversion outside of Mythic+ where you'll sometimes want to do one and then the other.
精神之花
(rare)
: Generally you'd rather use
青翠之拥
to consume Echoes and then cast the
精神之花
on yourself. Can be an acceptable choice if you're dealing with one single hit.
As an Echo build, you'll find your ramping (or spreading
回响
) across the raid for a lot of the fight. It's quite normal to consume your Echoes and then immediately start a new sequence. In between you can
活化烈焰
the boss for more
精华迸发
, and more Echo buffs. Your particular play can depend quite a lot on the boss you're working on. On something like Smolderon you'll be consuming
回响
with
青翠之拥
during the dangerous healing absorbs, and with Reversion during the intermission. On others, you might even be making moment-to-moment decisions based on the state of the raid and the type of damage going out. As a beginner, feel free to lean very hard on Echoing Reversion. It'll never be a bad choice.
In between these

on cooldown,

the boss for

procs and take care of any maintenance healing required on the raid.
1 Cast

on cooldown.
2 Cast Rank 1

whenever the raid is lightly or moderately injured. Combine it with
青翠之拥
where possible since it buffs the cast (
伊瑟拉之唤
).
3 Cast Rank 3
精神之花
whenever the raid or a single target is moderately injured.
4 As damage is about to hit, unload as many
翡翠之花
casts as you can on a stacked group of people.
5 Spend downtime DPSing with
活化烈焰
casts, especially when damage is coming up in 7-8 seconds.
6 If you run out of possible blossom casts but incoming damage is still heavy then cast
时空畸体

逆转
to refill bursts. This also gives you a healing increase on any targets hit. Note that this is expensive so you can't use it on cooldown. Consider it a way to fit more healing into burst windows. During downtime, avoid casting

at all. As a general guideline, you'll cast this combo about twice a minute.
7Hit
翡翠交融
during any periods of medium damage or as a defensive. Read below for some
缚誓生命
combos you can pair it with. These are very important so you'll want to start practicing them right away.
Big Blossom: Breakdown & Explanation
The Big Blossom build is built around casting
翡翠之花
s in a sequence. We'll set up our
翡翠之花
windows by casting
活化烈焰
which procs
精华迸发
and makes our Blossom free. The Blossoms can also trigger even more Blossoms via
梦境原野
and every third will trigger
生生不息
. We'll also contribute a little bit of damage this way.
梦境吐息
and
精神之花
are also key casts but they're not involved in your Blossom combo so can be used any time the raid is injured. Try and get as many
梦境吐息
casts off through the fight as possible since it's incredibly efficient and does a lot of healing. You'll also want to include as many
火焰吐息
casts as possible since it does great damage and causes your next
活化烈焰
to cleave up to 5 targets.
Preservation Evoker Mythic+ Healing Priority and Rotation
Preservation plays a little differently in Mythic+. You'll lean more heavily on big empowered spells, and less on huge
翡翠之花
combos. You'll also have to handle more single target healing than you might in raid, and you'll often put a higher priority on contributing damage when able.
1 Cast

on cooldown. Cast

either on enemies or allies afterward.
2 Cast Rank 1 or Rank 2

whenever the party is lightly or moderately injured. Similarly to raid, combine it with
青翠之拥
where possible since it buffs the cast (

).
3 Cast Rank 3
精神之花
if the party takes a big hit, or at Rank 1 if you need urgent tank healing.
4 Cast

if you know damage is coming soon, or
翡翠之花
if you're taking sustained AoE damage.
5 Use
青翠之拥
as your key single target heal.
6 Aim to keep
逆转
active on the tank.
7 Spend downtime DPSing with
活化烈焰
casts.
8Use

as a group-save. It is immensely powerful.
Mythic+ Breakdown & Explanation
In Mythic+ you'll aim to play proactively which can be a little tough when learning the spec. You'll use
回响
to prepare the group for damage, and then you'll hit
梦境吐息
or
青翠之拥
for a significant heal on the group. Preservation packs a ridiculous amount of healing into it's bursts so you'll often find each combo heals the group to full (and in
梦境吐息
s case, also leaves a huge HoT on the group). Indeed it's our sustained healing that tends to lack a little bit but we can more than make up for it with the sheer number of burst tools we have.
You might cover dangerous burst #1 with
回响
across the group ->

, then by dangerous burst #3 you'll have

You should focus on keeping the group alive during your first few dungeons, but you might still find you have ample time to DPS.

Refining the Basics - Leveling up your play
Overcoming a 30yd Range
Preservation is unique in being the only healing spec in the game with a reduced 30 yard range. This means that we're able to heal 56% of the area a standard healing spec can, and 44% of the area a Resto Druid can. The impact of this varies a lot on a fight by fight basis - on some fights you'll barely notice it and in others it'll be a major hindrance.
Stand centrally wherever a fight permits instead of on the outskirts.
Set our mobility buttons to good keybinds and use them often.

are all strong and between them you should have an answer to most movement requirements. Use
悬空
as your go-to since it has the fewest restrictions.
Adjust and update your planned positioning in between pulls. It isn't always possible to be in a great place, but you can at least be in a good one.
In Mythic+ you're likely to find it an occasional annoyance rather than something of large impact. You might want to consider telling any group members to stay a little closer than they might otherwise but you should only run into trouble with the most unruly DPS.
Optimizing Cooldowns
Preservation has access to some of the most powerful healing cooldowns in the game. Let's go through them and discuss where we might use them.
回溯
: Arguably the strongest healing cooldown in the game and certainly top 3.
回溯
applies a 5 second heal over time effect based on 33% of damage taken in the 5 seconds prior to you hitting the button. It also has a minimum attached to it and is doubled in dungeon content. You'll want to line this up with the most dangerous moments of every fight, and if you're in an organized raid then you'll want to tell your raid leader how good it is since it might not be immediately obvious when looking at it.

is a massive area AoE heal that'll send you in your chosen direction for 10-50 yards, healing everyone beneath you. It's a really high impact spell on a fairly reasonable cooldown and so you'll want to fit in as many uses as you can. Generally you'll want to aim for a stacked group since it heals every ally hit for the full amount. It also adds a lengthy HoT to each target.

lets you store and then re-cast three spells which means you can capture high value cooldowns like

and/or

and cast them again in a big healing burst. It's absolutely key in dungeon content and you'll also use it in

focused raid builds. There's a lot more detail on

below in the Advanced section of the guide, and it also includes some beginner combos to get started.
Aim to pre-plan cooldowns as much as possible. Avoid scenarios where you're saving them "just in case" since this can cost you a lot of mana through a fight, and can in fact lead to you getting into a bad situation in the first place. Instead layer your raids defensive cooldowns over the most dangerous moments of each fight to ensure you're covered.
Advanced Preservation Evoker Tips
Preservation has some weird and wonderful mechanics that you'll want to maximize to master your Evoker. Treat the rest of this page as a compendium of them.
The Mechanics of Building a Blossom
翡翠之花
is the primary essence spender of the Big Blossom build in raid. While firing them individually is decent, most of the power of the spell is in firing off multiple at once. Let's start with a quick refresher on the relevant
翡翠之花
talents since they are all important:

heals 5 targets instead of 3.
万应灵药
: Powerful self-heal when you cast Blossom. This notably heals you before the
翡翠之花
bursts and greatly increases the chance you'll get mastery value from the Blossom. It's also a massive heal in its own right and will almost single-handedly get you through the burst damage window.
婆娑幼苗
: Seedlings heal two people in raid, they don't necessarily have to be in the blossom at all.
梦境原野
: 30% chance for one of your Seedlings to turn into a brand new
翡翠之花
. These new blossoms will have their own seedlings that can proc yet another Blossom and so on.
生生不息
: Every 3rd blossom leaves a Sprout that stores all raw healing we do while active and then bursts, splitting it's stored healing across your raid. If you have two sprouts active at once then when the first one bursts the healing it does will be stored into the second. Note that there is an exception here when nobody is damaged at all in which case the Sprout will simply fade.
We'll set up our blossom combo 6-10 seconds before we expect damage to hit. We actually lead with
活化烈焰
casts in order to fish for
精华迸发
procs. Ideally we'll want two of these going into our damage period since that'll double the number of
翡翠之花
s we're able to cast before we run out of Essence. Through
梦境原野
we're going to end up with even more. Here's what we can expect:

sprouts down, multiplying all of our healing in the ~10 second window by 15-32%++. The best part of the combo is that it's extremely repeatable and if damage is frequent then you can be set up again and ready to go in 15 seconds or less (the time it takes to fresh 6 essence and get a few more
精华迸发
procs).

is a spec talent that seems simple enough at a glance.
青翠之拥
will bind you to your target and healing either of you receive will be duplicated to the other. Nothing too overpowered yet. The absurdity doesn't really get started until I tell you that
青翠之拥
s that are

'd also put up unique
缚誓生命
s. To offer a simple example:
If you

target X and then
青翠之拥
target Y then the
青翠之拥
will hit both X and Y and both will get
缚誓生命
buffs. Now all healing you receive will be duplicated to both targets (at a 40% rate).
Now recall that
时空畸体
can also put
回响
buffs out via

. So now we are able to get out 6-12+ echo buffs before we hit
青翠之拥
, and as such 6-12+ allies get a
缚誓生命
buff. Now all healing we do to ourselves is replicated to 7-13+ targets in addition to healing ourselves.
This is particularly big with
翡翠交融
which heals us (and thus replicates) our entire health bar. This is a staple of Preservation Evoker play and you'll use it to counter dangerous burst mechanics in both Mythic+ and Echo focused raid builds. Emerald Blossom focused builds won't take advantage of this quite as much.
How to play with
静滞
静滞
is our third Capstone spec talent and it'll see a lot of play in dungeon content. It can be quire intimidating to use as a beginner since it stores 3 spells for a second, later use of them. That makes it a bit tough to use reactively and smart
静滞
prep will be essential.
First, here's a bit of information on how it works:
静滞
spells have no cost, and spells will trigger in the order they were stored.
For targeted spells,
静滞
will send the duplicated spell at the same target. For spells without a target like
梦境吐息
,
静滞
will send the duplicated spell in whichever direction you are currently facing.
Empowered spells will cast at whatever rank the original was cast at.
Most procs that tie into an ability will also be duplicated like
婆娑幼苗
,
伊瑟拉之唤
and more.
Doesn't work on some specific spells like
梦境飞行
,
回溯
and so on. It's also helpful spells only.
You have quite a bit of flexibility over which specific spells you
静滞
but you'll want to aim for high value ones where possible. Let's look at some combos:
Big Green:
时空畸体
+
梦境吐息
+
精神之花
. Heals one target to near full and puts a very high strength
梦境吐息
on the entire group.
This is basically always a solid combo for all occasions and is your default.
Often a Rank 1
梦境吐息
is sufficient too so don't worry about charging it to full. The order isn't too important here either and you might swap it around based on fight needs.

Pre Pull Cheese:
时空畸体
x 3. You can use
静滞
before the pull starts and store 3
时空畸体
inside. Your 30-second
静滞
timer doesn't start until your third cast so you can do that on pull and then release it to get 12 Echo buffs out and a massive absorb on the raid. This tends to be good when a boss has dangerous damage right away.
The True Mass Dispel:
灼烧之焰
x 3.
灼烧之焰
s removes almost all dispellable debuffs and bleeds from a target but doesn't go on cooldown if it doesn't remove anything. That means we can store three in our
静滞
in advance and fully clear the entire group with it. This is niche, but worth having in your back pocket. It's usually nice on one or two bosses per season.
静滞
will require a lot of practice and don't expect to play it perfectly at first. Once you're in the habit of using it to prep for and handle high incoming damage you'll find it's something you can't live without.

I would, however, like to comment on something, as a matter of personal opinion... ( granted, I haven't tried Evoker yet )
"The Lifebind combo creates a degenerate scenario for other healers where occasionally their strongest target will be you on full health (since the healing will be replicated to half of the raid). There's a fairly heavy chance this is changed in some way before we start raiding at level 70, but for now it's an extremely strong, rather unfortunate to play combo. It's not a very fun playstyle."
The way you exemplified and mentioned how it worked, imho, it sounds exactly the type of alternative/out of the box gameplay the game needs, instead of the usual loop.
So while it's strong, it sounds like it does require coordination from the Evoker itself, and the other healers - I wouldn't consider it unfortunate.
Maybe my opinion will change after playing, but....at least it's different from the usual healing process and sounds like it might actually be *fun*

I'm puzzled about those stasis combos. If Verdant Embrace, Cauterizing Flame and Emerald blossom are all 24s CD or more, how are we expected to fit more than one of them before we can unleash stasis within its 30 sec window?
EDIT: if it somehow works as you mentioned, which i hope, wouldn't a 3x combo for statis require you to stop casting any helpful spells for like 30s until ie. Emerald blossom is off CD again, resulting in a healing loss?

I hate it when people include dps abilities in the healing "rotation". If we wanted to dps.. we'd play the dps spec don't we?

My little story: As like many I did my first Uldaman run with this char and yeah, this heal is really special. You are forced into melee to be able to hit your aoe spells and as soon your group spreads its becomming a disaster. We didnt wipe, we didnt even lose a man (was close though), but the 4th boss really put me to test. Some didnt know it and got hit by the fire circle and almost died, because I couldnt counter their mistake immediatly. Then everybody spread to their own mob and all the aoe spells dont work at all. At the last boss a mage stood too far away and was out of the 30 meter heal range. If you get used to the reversed life grip it could be fun though flying through the grp. :D
Evoker is really a pleasure to play in a melee group, but if there are ranged DPSes like hunter and shadows, that are used to standing away from the mobs, it may become troubling. If the ranged classes adept to this style, it will be a fun class, but if your allies sabotage you, you may end up having a bit less fun. :)
