A small note, it used to be bugged until patch 1.12.1, giving off an aura that reduced party healing to 0.

Yeah, this is the warlock version. In my opinion, I think it's better than the mage version. A constant addition to party spell damage is better than 2% to crit. Plus the warlock version gives the user a 2% chance to crit while the mage's give the user a 2% chance to hit. If you're at the point to be able to get this staff, you probably will have your chance to hit maximized.

Yes, you cant choose any other as you get different quest for each class. You can see it as a Legendary Class Quest

Makes me sad that the legendary staff of Medivh would sell to a vendor for 18g, 51s, and 58c.
I can just imagine that conversation.
Player: But.. this is the staff the wizard Medivh used when he spoke to Thrall, King Terenas, and Jaina Proudmoore. This staff is rich in Azerothian history and was once wielded by the man who is responsible for creating the Dark Portal!
Merchant: Ehh... I'll give you eighteen gold.
Player: ...
Merchant: Okay, okay, eighteen and a half.

Just a point, the original atiesh from Medievh has the red color on the string below the head, notice that the warlock version of the staff is red aswell, thank you blizzard for pointing out that:
-Medievh, Azeroth's most powerfull human was a warlock.
-Atiesh, would be most suited on a Warlock instead of the other classes.

looks like it was mirrored over from the priest staff onto this staff (the warlocks).
All of the comments from the warlock and priest staff are linked together right now since thottbot's programming doesn't recognize a difference in them right now.

When you click the warlock or mage version of the staff, it pulls up the comments from BOTH staves COMBINED...

It's the staff of Medivh - the design of the staff has been a matter of fact for years, how could they implement it in WoW then have it look absolutely nothing like how it's supposed to?
Just blame Medivh for having no imagination and move on.

Anachronos, the big Bronze Dragon hanging out in front of the Caverns of Time, starts the quest after you collect the 40 splinters.
If your in a guild that is having a hard time with AQ40 and decide to skip it and to try and get the 'phat looties' from Naxx, you're never going to get this staff.
You're going to need to be at least Neutral with the Brood of Nozdormu, and be able to kill C'thun to get the base. As well as kill Kel'Thuzad for the head, but that should go with out say.

Just so everyone knows, they didn't deisgn the staff out of nowhere. It is the staff of Medivh from the other Warcraft games. Yes, it is an owl on a stick, but it goes along with Warcraft lore. Personally I would love to have it and show it off because it was based off of a really awesome character.

Its pretty much an wooden owl on a stick, and the cloth strip hanging off of it glows a different color for each class.
Alot of people say "oo they dont look that shiney for the ultimate staves". Well i think of it as an "old money" kind of staff. Old money doesnt need to show off and be flashy. Old money is pimp, and it knows it.

The bird on top is a raven, not an owl. The appearance almost exactly matches how it looks in the Warcraft III cinematics, most prominently visible when Medivh appears as a raven and warns king Terenas of the plague.
This is probably one of the only items that has been modeled before they even started working on WoW, explaining the not-so-legendary looks.
But it would've been very odd if they changed it into something more appealing, while it has been so well visible before.

Interesting point you made (beside the swearing, that is), I found it quite remarkable to find such great difference in stats.
It may be due to the fact that the mage version has yet to be found, and may still change.
But when calculating the item points used it can make sense. For easy experimention I used
http://subcreation.net/itemlevel/
to calculate items levels (uses the Hyz system), the item scores below refer to the raw item scores used in this calculation.
Let's compare:
The stats that are the same, and therefore can be left out of the calculations:
- 150 damage/healing
- Karazhan portal
The mage version:
- 31 sta - Item score: 7130
- 32 int - Item score: 7360
- 24 spi - Item score: 5520
- 2% hit - Item score: 5000
- 2% crit to all party members - 2% crit has an item score of 5200. I assumed it is multiplied by 5 (the number of party members), so 26000.
All added together: 51010
The warlock version:
- 30 sta - Item score: 6900
- 29 int - Item score: 6670
- 2% crit - Item score: 5200
- 33 damage/healing to all party members - As above, but now for 33 damage/healing with an item score of 6336, resulting in 31680.
All added together: 50450
So the difference would be 560 points, which seems to be equivalent to only a few stat points, or they can be attributed to the inaccuracy of the calculator.
Of course, this may be wrong:
- the calculator can just suck
- my assumption for the value of the party member effects is wrong
- I may have misinterpreted the way the calculator should be used
- etc. etc.
Bottom line is that the stats for these items
may
be defendable using WoW's item values.
But I sure agree that is seems imbalanced.

To make everyone know...
medivh is the son of the woman who killed sargeras, she got corrupted and when medivh born, the cursed transfered to him, and from him to the stave. So he opened the dark portal to let the orcs come to azeroth and make it less powerfuller to the coming of the legion, then when orc became good, undeads came and started to corrupt the world

Why actually keep the staff when you could sell it? I mean it's over 17g vendor! Think of all the darkmoon reserve! ;)Not to mention, of course, you would become world famous among all warcraft players as the dumbass who actually turned it into vendor trash...

There seems to be a conflict. Some people want this staff to look menacing and evil with at least two different glows, maybe some spikes and acid dripping from a shark's mouth or something. Another group finds the simplicity of design and lore behind the current model admirable.
The only resolution to this conflict is to increase the size of the current staff by 10000%, allowing it to sweep grandly though the entire city of Ironforge every time its wielder turns around.

The staff will port you OUTSIDE Karazhan, and eaven if you wanted get this staff, Karazhan attunement would be easyer.
Pre-BC, this staff was like... well lets say like doing a lvl 65 or maybe 66 instance at lvl 60, and it was very hard. i myself never got a splinter - The mages (priests got Hammer of Twisting Nether) had priority - and since im warlock i could just cry tears of flame in anger :(
Now, after BC, this staff is easy to get if you have a guild willing help you whit it. I heard of guilds grinding it to their casters for the Portal to Karazhan (evryone HS shattrath and take the port, easy and fast for repair etc)
To clear out the quest // drop to get it:
Pieces
The staff has been split into several pieces which were scattered around the world.
Kel'Thuzad's underlings in Naxxramas each have a chance to drop a .
Once all 40 Splinters have been found, they may be combined into the , which gives a quest to visit the dragon Anachronos. You are then given a quest to obtain the Staff Head and Base of Atiesh.
Kel'Thuzad drops .
The drops from C'Thun in the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj.
You have to travel to Stratholme to cleanse the staff, and then slay Atiesh, Hand of Sargeras.

Umm okay It's not just about looks either. Dude I hate to say it gut this staff is a joke. Seriously. How much BS did some one go through to get this? Because Frankly I just can't see it being worth it other than the really nice stat boosts. I mean yeah I gues the AoE boost effect would be nice but get real. That's what Paladin and moonkin are for. And they are ALOT easier to obtain. Below are some staves taht I think are better and MUCH easier to get.
硫磺法杖
Brimstone Staff
搜魂者
Soul Keeper
暮光之塔
Spire of Twilight
Okay Come on WTF! Three epic staves with Higher stat boosts and healing/dmg boosts? Blizzard this new staff is LEGENDARY! Make it worth the trouble or throw it away.

Okay..Just to clear a few things up in case you haven't read below or perhaps it wasn't posted yet. This is the
Warlock Version
of the Staff.
Anyway, I had a question about this
Yummy Stick of Destruction
...(giggles). Maybe someone here knows.
I see that it does
150 Spell Damage
but what about that other buff it does?
"Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects of all party members within 30 yards by up to 33. "
Other then the party members, will it buff you as well? Making that
150 spell damage
to a whopping
183 Spell Damage!
If so, that would be just dandy.
Does anyone know?

Naxx might be a looong loong way ahead in Classic WoW, but i still find myself drooling over the different variations of Atiesh.
This is truly amazing item.
In fact, it is so amazing that you wont be replacing it before your guild is raiding Karazhan; and even then, you might be better off just using Atiesh while on raids due to the party buff.
The later 70lvl epics will naturally replace it, but loots from heroic 5-mans and Karazhan are minor upgrades at best.

We're going to compare Mage and Warlock versions (WoW Classic) so people have a better understanding of the math behind why this goes to Warlocks first.
Stat Weight Coefficients (Mage):
Spell Power = 7
Spell Critical Strike = 81
Spell Hit = 100
Intellect = 1
Stat Weight Coefficients (Warlock):
Spell Power = 5
Spell Critical Strike = 65
Spell Hit = 100
Intellect = 1
Adding up all the stats on both versions (minus the aura):
Mage = 1,050
Warlock = 750
Mages benefit from the staff the most from the actual stats (not including the aura) by a difference of +300
Both versions (aura):
Mage gives other Mages (including the player themselves) a +162 and gives Warlocks a +130
Warlock gives other Warlocks (including the player themselves) a +165 and gives Mages a +231
With a MH/OH combo or another 2H weapon, Mages can more than make up the +300 they would be getting if they used the staff, however, giving this to a Warlock will boost the DPS of all Mages and Warlocks in the group more than if a Mage was using it.
