Junk. Even the .5 gloves are better, not to mention cheaper.

These gloves are quite nice for a Mage or Warlock. For a priest however, they serve very little purpose stats wise. Sure, they've got +int/+spr, but the critical rating is virtually useless for all priest specs (inspiration aside - and there are better options for them also). Suggested you not waste your hard earned money on making/buying these.

I've made those gloves for my lock back in old '60, enchanted +20 shadow damage and weared them for a long time. They are one of the best for 60lvl twink™ untill you get GM gear, but they give most spell crit like no other gloves, 2% or...28 crit rating now :/
Sad, they were good, and they show up in WC3, Jaina is using them I think.

if you are new to WOW like me and you see this recipe at the auction house, you probably were excited to be able to buy an epic pattern for your tailor at skill level 300. dont be.. this item may have been epic back in the day, but now there are level 58, 59 greens which blow this item away.. blizzard should just retire this from the game or at least make it green instead of purple so people dont get confused. this is just a money trap now - the mats are still expensive for this, you can buy a better green than this for 5g on the auction house, and you will be lucky to sell this item on the auction house for a fraction of what it cost to make.

for the person that asked, "am i wrong?"
In my OPINION you are. Those gloves would be better if you're looking for the highest damage over time. If however you are on a PvP server, you need to get in and do the dirty deed as fast as you can; whether that be killing mobs for questing, farming, or pvp.
You need the highest amount of damage in the shortest amount of time. For that, that means i will take +2% to crit over your gloves of power anyday, at the chance that i will crit 2% more than you.

Some would say that crit is better than + damage in pvp. Though on a long term perspective, the best thing, is whatever deals the most damage on an average. Lets say you've got 10% to crit with SB, that means that 1/100 times, you'll get two SB crits in a row. So you'll win, once in a while. But you'll loose most of the time. In pvp, what deals the most damage is the most important. In PvE however, a warlock, with no treath reduction, who crits 2-3 times in a row, could get aggro, if it happens early in the fight, against an untauntable mob, so its not so bad after all. In the end, a sound mixs is the best. As for how this works, +healing is exact, though subject to reduction by lower casting time (not if its lowered by of talents) and lower ranks. This is very evident with healing, when the "long" heals recieve full bonus while flash heal only gets slightly below half.
Say you have a spell that allways hits for 100, and has a cast time of one second. If you go from 0% too 1% crit, you average dps will then go from 100 to 101. If it then goes from 1% to 2%, your dps will go from 101 to 102. So if you have 50% to crit and go to 51%, your dps goes from 150 too 151. 151/150 = 1,0067 = 0,67% increase. +1% crit is, over time, equal to +1% increase to base spell damage and (if you have any) + to spell damage items. +damage is a fixed amount regardeless of the spell, + to crit is also a fixed amount for each spell. a spell does 1000 damage, you then equip +200 damage gear and +5% crit, you avarge damage is (1000+200)* 1,05 = 1260. (base damage + + spell damage) * critchance. If you dont have ruin, crit is half of what it is with riun.

I am 31 arcane 20 fire, half epiced.
I'll have to agree that for ICE, + damage is ALOT better, due to the fact that icebolt is already low in damage as it is, and doesn't recieve full bonus, therefore it becomes nessasary. Also, the shatter talent makes +%crit fairly negligeble, since you already get 50% on frozen targets.
However,
For a fire mage, crit is better than + damage, in both pvp AND pve(outside mc)
Crit > Damage for fire:
Assuming you have improved fireblast and you know how to optimize/rotate you firespells so that you dont waste a single second waiting for cooldowns, fire is much more effective with +crit because of ignite.
Best rotation:
Fireball firstblast
fireball scorch fireblast
fireball scorch fireblast (repeat)
When doing this with the +14% crit i have on my magegear now i can stack ignite up to 3 times on a single mob, even tho they usually die after 2. Ignite stacks are deadly. Not only do they double the damage of the dot, but it renews it too. I currently only have in the neighborhood of around +160 fire damage, as opposed to other fire mages in my guild who have +300 or so, yet i'm always top 3 dps in ZG and AQ, and always #1 in 5 man instances.
As a mage in pvp, you are fighting in close combat almost half the time. This means that the 50% of the time you ARN'T fortunate enough to be able to just snipe, you're fireblasting more often than frost/firebolting. This means during this time that your primary fighting spell is one only gets 1/3.5 of the spell bonus + damage gets. But crits are static and always give full bonus, therefore its more effective. Fireblast crits with ignite are around 1.1k.

A crit is 150% dmg, therefore, if you do 1000 dmg, your crits would be 1500.
2% chance to crit means 2% chance to add +500 dmg (If the + dmg was actually accurate) if you think of it that way.
On the other hand, the +dmg is 100% chance to add (lets say 25)
If you were wearing two +25 peices as opposed to two +2% crit peices, the +dmg peices would prevail, as you would only be gaining 4% crit (4% of 500)
This is purely based on a "perfect" scenerio, and of course targets' levels and such affect crit (Defensive skill) and you may crit every hit in one fight but none in another.
This is how I see it anyway. For a pvp situation I find crit more useful because it helps if you "suprise" your target with dmg that may kill them instead of bringing them down gradually and giving them time to heal~
(Also take into account the fact that some classes get bonuses to skills on crit; IE, inspiration or shadow vulerability )

kind of surprised no one has said this, but even jaina proudmoore wore these they are so leet.
in the bonus campaign founding of durotar after you do about an hour and a half worth of playing she joins up with you rexxar and the troll hero and she just had these. except in the gsme they add 20 damage and the ability to instantly take over a summoned unit.
but on a side note these are garbage, complete garbage. req lvl 57 to use and then the quest greens in outlands or even the trash mob drops in outlands are way better than these. Maybe pre BC these would have been worth the time for some people but even then there kind of crap.

I am currently looking for the Tailor, but would really like to know that materials list so I can get an apporximate value, and start collecting. If you have this pattern please post the materials for me, im despirate. : / and if you on Zul'Jin, send a message to Kirin.

Excellent gloves, definately epic worthy. Though no matter how much people want to say it, there has been no post from Blizzard on how much intellect it takes to achieve +1% chance to critical strike with spells. No matter how much you test it with in game recording systems, all tests are inconclusive until the actual equation from the game files themselves are layed out before us to tell us the truth about it.
I do agree that it takes a substantial amount of intellect to get +1%, but to just state with assurance that it's 100:1 is stupid. There's a margin of error there, please stop dishing out information that could potentially be false.

The 2% crit is worth about 30 INT imo. The INT on the gloves also adds crit, so total for one item is >2% crit. Very nice gloves.

Rogues get .33 crit per 10 points in agi. IF the percentage is the same it equals out to 60 points in int. Most crit items dont have the additional stat like this either.

since it does take rogues 30 agi to get one crit chance i would assume it is similar for casters it may vary amongst different caster classes but i think it is along the same lines.

Someone please explain why these are better than the Hands of Power
Hands of Power
. I don't think it can be done, because I'm pretty sure they're worse, except perhaps for PvP.
Figure: Best case scenario (warlock with Ruin, frost mage with 100% crit bonus) these add 100% damage to a critical strike. Ignoring the +4 intellect and +2 spirit, you would have to have a spell that HITS for 1300 damage for these to add as much damage on average.
Calculation - 1300 (crit bonus) x 2/100 (bonus chance) = 26 damage/shot.
To my knowledge, it is impossible to get any spell to hit that hard (you'd need about +600 or more to damage, which is significantly higher than Netherwind, which is obviously better than these.)
Admittedly, the math is a little more complex, since you have to factor in the base casting time modifiers for spell damage and the increased crit damage you get from +spellpower, but I think I've made my point.
I could understand preferring these for Arcane explosion, since it being a 1.5 sec cast and an AoE spell it gets a tiny fraction of the listed damage bonus. Aside from that, it seems like the wrong pair of gloves is being called epic.
So save your gold for something else and get in LBRS!

It is known for a fact that for casters it takes 100 int to increase your crit chance by 1%. Spells are supposed to crit far less than melee, which is why the chances are reduced and crit gear is far harder to come by. This is equivalent to 200 int for crit purposes, which is more than the int bonus from an entire tier-1 class set.
Note: Your crit chance is not just int/100. These is a base of around 4-6%, plus some dependancies on level. However, empircal test have shown that the crit chance dependance on int is 100:1 ratio.

There is many posts about this subject. After many tests including my own, and just from my cosmos % listed that I crit I am very confident to say 100int=1% chance to crit.
Mage
Int 7000/7% crit
Incinerate - 2/2 points
Increases the critical strike chance of your Fire Blast and Scorch spells by 4%.
Critical Mass - 3/3 points
Increases the critical strike chance of your fire spells by 6%.
This is 17% chance to crit with Fireblast, cosmos consistently records me critting at 16-18%.
100int=1%crit
Now how about someone posts on what matters like wtf do you get this pattern?

every point of intelligence gives you a chance to crit with spells, if its the same as agility and strength (i think it was 1 pt = .04% chance to crit), then a 2% chance to crit is worth approximately 50 points of intelligence
these gloves are more useful to a mage or a warlock, priests shouldnt rely on crits for healing as they are unpredictable of course

These gloves are better than the gloves of power on any mob with less than approximately 10k health. In a raid, mobs that weak die so fast that the +dmg bonus's rarely get a chance to add up, but the crit rate makes a big difference, killing mobs a whole fireball/frostbolt sooner, which is usually 2.5-3 seconds.
Since very very few players have 10k health, obviously crit is nicer for PVP than +dmg, unless you have a LOT of +dmg, and you still want a healthy mix of the two regardless.
Against tougher mobs and bosses (like BWL/MC trash) obviously +dmg is much better value.
Just for the record, I have +9% spell crit gear, and +230 (soon to be +350) dmg, but not both at the same time. I switch between the two sets depending on the situation. These gloves would fit nicely in with my crit gear, replacing the gordok wraps, boosting it to 10%. I'm a frostmage, so do +100% damage crits, but a fire mage benefits just as much (if not more) from ignite.
