Brewmaster Monk Stats
Agility is your primary stat, found on leather gear and many trinkets. Agility is a direct survival stat, passively increasing
醉拳
scaling rate, and contributing to self-healing primarily via
玄牛之赐
,
天神酒
, and
移花接木
. While Agility's effect on
醉拳
scaling is a bit complicated, it has a pretty strong effect.
Agility is a great stat overall. It rarely competes with secondary stats (only on trinkets), and its value is high enough to make item level increases worth wearing in nearly all situations. This makes gearing a Brewmaster Monk pretty easy to manage!
Here is how Brewmaster Monks feel about secondary stats:
Critical Strike
: Thanks to
天神护佑
, Critical Strike directly increases your healing taken (while also similarly increasing all damage absorbs based on the stat), and is integral to surviving with Brewmaster’s limited self-healing toolkit. It's also an excellent offensive stat.
Haste
: Increases Energy generation and reduces the cooldown of
醉酿投
,
活血酒
, and
碧玉疾风
(if talented); of note, 14.3% Haste is required to reduce the cooldown of
醉酿投
to 7 seconds, and 33.4% to reduce the cooldown to 6 seconds. However,
these are not meant to be "goals"
due to the current complexity of the specialization and plenty of other abilities to use. Due to its limited interaction with your overall kit, Haste is frequently your least-desirable secondary, but not by a huge margin.
Mastery
: Your
精通:醉拳大师
functions more or less like Dodge chance. It is a decent, reliable offensive boost as well, though it has two major shortcomings that make it a second-tier stat option. First,
幻灭踢
can frequently push you over 100% dodge, resulting in wasted avoidance. Second, and more important, it does nothing to reduce damage that cannot be dodged. Despite these limitations, it is the strongest effective damage reduction stat against anything that
can
be dodged.
Versatility
: While it is an excellent stat for both increasing your damage and healing done while also providing passive damage reduction, Versatility is also a stat that you will require more of to reach similar percentages. It is a particularly strong choice due to additionally increasing the damage of effects outside of your own abilities, such as trinkets.
Best Stats for Brewmaster Monk
In Dragonflight, your priority for secondary stats will vary
slightly
depending on your preference for gearing more defensively or offensively. Despite this, item level will frequently be your largest priority regardless of stats present on an item. So long as a piece of gear has more Agility or Armor,
it will likely be an upgrade
.
Defensive Stat Priority
Item Level / Agility
Versatility = Critical Strike = Mastery
Haste
The most important thing to remember when choosing to gear defensively is that there will rarely, if ever, be a magic amount of a secondary that allows you to survive something you otherwise couldn't. Trading in 10% of your Critical Strike for Versatility won't mean you suddenly got better at using your defensive abilities, after all! This also means that even if Haste is present on a piece of gear, it is likely to still be a defensive upgrade if it is of a higher item level. Prioritize obtaining "more" stats over obtaining "better" stats until working with gear at the same item level.
Offensive Stat Priority
Item Level / Agility
Versatility = Critical Strike
Mastery
Haste
When gearing for dealing more damage in particular, your most likely exception to the above priority will come from accessory slots such as jewellery, which do not normally contain Agility. In this case, you will most often defer to the piece that has less Haste present. As always, the best way to know what piece of gear is best for you is to
sim yourself
, but remember that this will not simulate your defensive potential. Damage intake is not something that can be reliably modeled on a fight-by-fight basis, and anyone who says otherwise is lying!

Sorry how can I matche the stat priority
Critical Strike > Versatility > Mastery > Haste = Agility
with the statement
"Agility is, by all appearances, the best stat a Brewmaster can get"?
Maybe a typo?
Thanks!

Is the benefit of Celestial Fortune really so strong than it causes Crit to outweigh Mastery? I feel that Versatility would still be our strongest stat for pure Mitigation especially when paired with our Mastery.
I'm just curious on this honestly, Elusive Brawler is very strong with High Uptime's it feels where as you would need a lot of Crit to make Celestial Fortune (a pure RNG passive) really even worth it imo.

I don't know why but I find Versatility stronger than Crit.....

Here is the easy answer. Agility is indeed a great stat for brewmaster. However for defensive purposes Monks have enough agility on their gear (above 455) to be well into the DR (diminishing returns) for the agility----> Stagger ratio. to the point that if you have more than 85% stagger with iron skin brew active (like you always should) Agility which does indeed still add to your stagger, will barely help this number increase. my 470 brewmaster has 87% and when my cloak OR fortifying brew are active, both only bring this number to 91% and together to 93. As far as agility goes, its a DPS stat, once you have gear.
As far as survival-ability goes, Mastery is indeed the top stat. but if you have the proper azerite, ( 2-3 training of nizuao) and you appropriately know how to manage your stagger / purify. with good azerite levels. you have 800-1200 mastery from those traits alone.
This does not diminish the value of mastery. it does however explode the value of crit and versatility.
given that, for the most part, every class has the same "you dont want to just stack one stat, as, as all your stats improve, so does the value of the others" so because this trait gives a great amount of mastery (tbh it should easily put you over 30-35% mastery). this level of mastery would mean with 20% dodge your first attack hit, makes your dodge 50%, and the second hit makes it 80%, and the third in a row, makes it 110% guaranteed 4th hit dodge. Blackout strike which you keep ON COOLDOWN, every 3 seconds you get a free stack to your mastery as well. so effectively, over 30% mastery you are looking more at the attack power bonus, than you are at the dodge bonus.
In layman's terms you'd want all your peices to be vers over crit, (not crit over vers because your cloak and neck do not have vers at all ) for all your peices, because you have plenty of base-line agility, and you have enough mastery from azerite traits.
Celestial fortune is indeed RNG, however lets say you have 30% crit. and 20% vers. and your healer hits you for three 100k heals. one of which procs celestial fortune. with your vers it turns into 78k self healing.
the math says, that on average this is a 26% increase to all healing taken.
as your crit goes up, and your vers goes up, this number explodes.
