Assassination Rogue Talent Breakdown for Shadowlands
Tier 1 (Level 15) Talents for Assassination Rogue
: Increases the potency of your poisons. That gives it a good synergy with your Mastery but, nevertheless, it is not quite able to beat the contenders, at the moment.
: After your finishers, you get a brief period of increased damage. This is possibly the best all-round option in this tier and not very specific to the situation or ability usage.
: Offers both a regular proc and an execute effect. It makes the rotation a bit more diverse by allowing you to use
. It is a great and fun option for single target damage. It starts to lose some value when you use
less often in AoE.
Tier 2 (Level 25) Talents for Assassination Rogue
: Makes abilities used from
deal more damage. For damage over time abilities, this effect will snapshot, meaning it applies to the entirety of their duration. Because of this, you want to use
to apply a maximum combo point
with this talent. In terms of DPS output, this is still viable among the other talents on single target fights and the movement speed increase may be very convenient, especially for some content like old raids.
: Allows you to apply empowered versions of
to multiple targets. It is good for single target fights and gets even better with more enemies. This makes it the best all-rounder in this tier.
: Provides a weaker version of the
legendary effect. This talent is worthless if you play with that legendary. Otherwise, it is a strong single target option.
Tier 3 (Level 30) Talents for Assassination Rogue
: In order to speed up the rotation and provide smoother energy management, this is currently the go-to option for single target and very convenient and simple to use.
: Increases your maximum amount of combo points to 6 and empowers your finishers. With some gear sets this has shown to sim as a considerable alternative to Vigor.
: Using this marks the target and fills all of your combo points. If the target dies while marked, the cooldown on
will be reset. It can be nice for dungeon clears or any kind of content where you can benefit from the resets very often.
Tier 4 (Level 35) Talents for Assassination Rogue
: Adds a leech effect to your poison, so you will constantly heal yourself for a percentage of the damage you deal. This is a good choice if you want to benefit from the additional healing it provides, e.g. in solo content.
: Saves you from death once every 6 minutes. It is a very powerful talent that can fix fatal failures or even be used on purpose for soaking mechanics. This is the recommended choice in group content if you are not sure what to choose.
also reduce direct damage. Potentially the best talent in this row, but it requires you to use Feint very consciously to mitigate directed damage. Great if you have certain situations in mind where you intentionally want to reduce direct damage, but not so great if you end up Feint very little.
Tier 5 (Level 40) Talents for Assassination Rogue
: Adds a bleed to
that scales damage with combo points spent and triggers
. This makes it the potentially biggest personal damage gain in this tier. It is pretty good with fewer targets but can be less valuable in AoE situations with many targets. Ideally, you will want to benefit from it as much as you can by replacing
on stunnable targets when ready. Make sure you still make your stuns matter though and treat the damage from it as a bonus. If in doubt,
is always the easier and more generally helpful stun talent.
: Empowers the silence effect on
which is great if you need the silence against some caster enemies or if you can benefit from the damage reduction often, e.g. to help your tank or prevent dangerous casts in Dungeons. Compared to the other choices it does not provide a damage gain though.
: Enemies stunned with
also take increased damage from all sources for a short time. It is a good choice when you want your whole group to benefit from the short damage increase for burst on stunnable targets.
Tier 6 (Level 45) Talents for Assassination Rogue
: Adds an energy refund to
. This is pretty much an underwhelming and dead talent, not able to compete in the tier.
: A very straightforward and simple passive talent with a benefit that easily beats the other talents in this row. While rather boring, it is a strong choice in general.
: Cooldown that speeds up your bleeds on the target and could be useful if you need a bit more burst. Ensure that you have a fresh set of bleeds on the target before casting to get the most out of it. In Shadowlands, with the few changes to the spec, it has fallen further behind and is lacking noteworthy synergies to make it strong though. It also feels weirder to play with now that the damage increase cooldown on
Tier 7 (Level 50) Talents for Assassination Rogue
: Provides an AoE damage proc for your finishers. This is the strongest choice for single target fights and continues to be great with more enemies.
: Is a re-work of the
effect from Legion. It can be useful when you need periodic AoE burst, but also has that quirk of making you feel bad for using
too early. The other options are usually better.
: Adds an AoE bleed with an instant damage part to your toolkit. This is the most fun AoE option in this tier and useful if you need more sustained AoE.
War Mode for Assassination Rogue
is a World PvP system. You are now able to toggle War Mode while in Stormwind or Orgrimmar to gain access to PvP Talents in the outdoor world as well as other bonuses, like increased rewards from World quests and 10% extra experience. The downside is that you will always be in PvP combat mode, with the rewards counterbalancing that risk.
With that in mind, not all talents give the best throughput for your Assassination Rogue. We've selected the best options for you to use while doing outdoor content with this mode turned on. Keep in mind that these are the best options for PvE activities and may differ from those used when fighting other players.
War Mode bonuses may now scale up to 30%, based on how imbalanced is the PvP situation against your faction. On top of that, you will be able to turn off War Mode in any resting area, like smaller cities and inns, allowing you to leave unfavorable situations if you so desire.
If you want to maximize potential PvE damage, you may want to consider these.
: Adds some passive damage to
and can even be simply refreshed by moving a little.
: More damage and range that is useful when doing AoE pulls.
: Some more passive extra damage for
but less useful in case enemies die very quickly.
