The elevator easily is the hardest boss in Blackwing Descent, looking at the number of deaths it causes. Glad it received this recognition.
Still pondering whether to try to minimize or maximize this number, in which it is similar to

We needed this so bad aye x3.
You'd see a bunch of slowfalling levi'ing and pallies jumping off,
and this epic little hunter hop hop'ing on the elevator, only to find as she hops the elevator went down.
Go figure.
.. /sigh.

Hardest boss in BWD obviously. Near impossible to predict when the friggin thing is about to move, its like its taunting you:
"
Hey, come take a ride on me. OH! Woops! Looks like you just missed me! Dont worry, there is a soft landing on that floor 250 yards down. Or you could always slowfall into that pool of lava. <3

I've had my Flexweave Underlay fail to deploy multiple times. I've used it too early and I slowly float my way into lava or into Onyxia. Other times it just fails and cost me a few repair bills. All because the platform goes..."Hey I'm right here...Hurry up...Opps...too slow!"

Easy, you run to the left or right into the wall so when you slowfal l/ flexweave, you don't go into the lava or ony.

Oh, I can get out now! No, don't close! Well at least I can get back on the platfo-... where'd that go?

The elevator boss has claimed the lives of many Mages and Priests. Close second is the lava boss, with the remains of those who made fun of those Mages and Priests.

The Elevator is is a
four-phase
fight located in
黑翼血环
. Raids must pass through The Elevator to continue through the rest of the instance, and is considered a
gear check encounter
. It must be fought every time the raid wishes to pass into the rest of the zone. This encounter does not vary from 10-man to 25-man modes, but groups will have to be positioned accordingly.
Phase 1: Up
Phase 1 begins with The Elevator moving in a rapid pace from the
ground floor
to the
top of the ledge
. Position your raid near the edge, preferably spread out into two groups to minimize confusion. It only takes a few seconds for the elevator to rise, so have your raid leader call out all movement. It is imperative that you not try to interact with the elevator in this phase at all. Move your Rogues, Priests, and Mages near the front of the group, and keep all other classes to the back. Paladins with good timing may be moved to the front group, but it is ill-advised.
Phase 2: Idle
Phase 2 begins when The Elevator reaches the top of the ledge. Here it will remain for
3 seconds
. The forward group must move onto the platform and halt
all
movement! Do not try to keep moving forward, and do not backpedal backwards.
The Phase 2-3 transition can be one of the tougher challenges of this encounter. Do not move your character
at all
during this transition.
Phase 3: Down
Phase 3 begins after the 3 second window from Phase 2 ends. By this time, if all forward group members aren't full on The Elevator, the fight is a wipe. If done successfully though,
you will begin to descend
. Many raiders begin to panic at this time, blowing their cooldowns and adjusting their footing. Refrain from such actions; simply
hold your position
while The Elevator takes your character in a
downwards fashion
.
Phase 4: Idle
Phase 4 is arguably the most-challenging phase of the encounter. The Elevator will reach the ground and
suddenly halt
. Be prepared for this sudden change in downward movement, and
run forward
off The Elevator and onto solid ground. Backpedaling and strafing are disastrous here, as Phase 4 and Phase 2 share the same cooldown. If the forward group successfully leaves The Elevator, the boss will reset back to Phase 1, allowing for the second group to
repeat the same process
.
Loot
The Elevator is an unusual encounter in that it drops no loot.
Hard Mode
To activate this encounter's Hard Mode, place a Holy Priest on the edge of the platform. As your tanks pull The Elevator, and the raid runs in behind them, the Priest will cast
信仰飞跃
on a random target. If you are this target,
immediately halt all movement.
This will happen twice, one target per group; however, a well-timed
嗜血
and a quick raid can bypass this second cast. If neither of the chosen players are killed during the encounter, you have successfully defeated The Elevator Hard Mode.

Using the vast repertoire of engineering tools that I have acquired in my journeys, I shall attempt to overcome the dreaded Elevator boss and catalog the results of my endeavors herein.
Day 1:
As the Elevator's primary wipe mechanic, Fall to Your Death, is dependent upon the forces of gravity, I thought to use the tried-and-true
Flexweave Underlay
. While this tactic initially succeeded, it unfortunately activated the Elevator's Heroic difficulty and I was quickly subdued by the Big Pit of Lava that joined the fight.
Day 5:
After days of careful calculations, I have determined that the extra velocity provided by a series of
Nitro Boosts
should defend against the Big Pit of Lava's primary mechanic, Fall In and Burn to Death.
Day 6:
Nitro Boosts were successful in preventing a wipe from the Big Pit of Lava add. However, they appear to have some sort of taunt mechanic that I was not aware of, as I immediately pulled threat from
Ivoroc
, who under normal circumstances should not cause problems during that encounter.
Day 10:
Considered utilizing a wormhole generator to bypass Ivoroc, but that train of logic seems circular, as I would only have to engage the Elevator at a later point in time.
Day 12:
Lost two more compatriots to the Elevator. Further deaths avoided thanks to quick action on the part of the priest. Damn and blast whatever infernal realm spawned that unholy beast! I have enlisted the help of two paladins to assist; perhaps the Light will protect them where science has failed me.
Day 15:
Priest ran out of reagents; the Elevator swiftly claimed his life and one of our other companions. The paladins continue to prove surprisingly resilient to its mechanics.
Day 21:
One of the paladins attempted to solo the Elevator while his cooldowns were unavailable, against the wishes of the rest of us. Though he fought valiantly, the Elevator has claimed another victim today.
Day 32:
The rest of the group has disbanded, understandably frustrated with the losses we have suffered and unwillingly to waste any more lives in the quest to slay the Elevator. Only I remain: it is not in me to leave a foe unbeaten, not when good men have given their lives in the name of research.
Day 37:
The Elevator remains undefeated; all my efforts to exploit any perceived weakness in its defenses have been swiftly and thoroughly thwarted. This place is beginning to strain my concentration; when I am not actively engaged in some activity or another I swear I can hear voices from below.
Day 39:
I have determined the source of the voices to be the Big Pit of Lava. Curiously, it makes no attempts to stop me from besting the Elevator: it simply sits there, as if waiting.
Day 45:
The Lava calls to me, but I must not listen -- not while the Elevator still lives. But the Lava is so insistent.
Day 53:
This will be my last entry. I have finally solved the riddle and revealed the secrets of this place. The Elevator is not an enemy at all; it is a friend, a conduit meant to take us to the Lava, the heart and soul and mind of everything. The Lava sees all, knows all,
is
all. It tells me that all I have to do is take a swim and everything will be alright, that everything will be revealed to me -- and I finally see that the Lava speaks only the truth. Now that I know not to fear it, but embrace it, the Elevator proved no trouble at all. I stand now at the precipice, gazing into the Big Pit of Lava. One more step and I will be the greatest raider Azeroth has ever seen.

I was a rosey-cheeked, wide-eyed Holy Paladin... sarcastic, hardly impressed with this raid's monotonous red. And jeez, I was so naive. "It's exactly like ICC, except, you know, fire instead of ice!" I told my easily-amused raid members. Oh, those were such good times too. Fighting and finally downing Magmaw... mastering the Omnitron Defense Jerks. We felt like we were really progressing... that perhaps this game had something in store for us all, a bright future perhaps, maybe a legendary along the way. That was... until we realized the harsh truth....
We weren't quite sure where to go at first... that confusion should've been our first sign that something was very wrong here. But our raid leader, he told us there was a middle way. Some elevator, not far from here, according to some Wowpedia entry. "That should lead us right to the next set of bosses!" he exclaimed. And we were ready. God, were we ready. We were certain that, if there was any raid we could handle right now, it was this one. Perhaps our overconfidence got the best of us... but damn it, we thought we were prepared! We were fully heroic geared! Our DPS was through the roof! Nothing could stop us! Or so we thought....
We finally found an elevator, leading straight down... by the gods... if only I knew
just how far down
it really was, maybe it would've been different... maybe we could've avoided what was to come. My raid leader got on that creaky platform, and the rest of us followed behind him. Maybe that was our undoing. Maybe that was the lesson in all of this. Blindly following a leader, one who doesn't truly understand what he's gotten us all into... and to this day, none of us can forgive him for what happened next...
I got to the edge... and I walked off of the edge... but the elevator was no longer there! I had no time to react, no time to pay attention to what was happening. My WoW playtime flashed before my eyes... back when I was leveling... back when I tanked vanilla dungeons... when I first got /ginvited... a red blur swished and swayed, blinding me. And the next thing I knew, I was staring at a dark tiled floor. My dead body was sprawled before me, with a giant, red "Release" button, obscuring my vision, taunting me with a deathly glow. There was dead silence over Ventrilo. I looked around me... and sure enough, there lay the bodies of my friends, my dearest comrades, the very people I had just celebrated victory with... all depleted of HP, of mana... of life.... And I felt so helpless, so alone. I felt like crying... throwing away those psychological shackles that say real men shouldn't cry, and just let loose, then and there. But I couldn't even do that -- /cry wasn't working. There was nothing I could do, to undo what had just happened. I couldn't rez. I couldn't heal. I just laid there, near-comatose, trying to figure out what had just happened.... Really, is this what death is like? Is this how it all ends? Because this was so sick. This was wrong. How could this happen to good people?
That's when the snicker came... a cold, calculating "haha", from over my speakers. It was the raid leader. "You all should probably pay attention." And... this, my friends, was our alleged leader. This was the man that caused my entire raid to perish, incur losses beyond imagination (10 gold or so), not to a boss, but to simple physics... cold, unchanging physics, that insist death is the punishment when you fall several stories down to the hard floor. I'll never forget that day. I questioned our leader... I questioned our creator... I questioned myself. And as hot as that churning lava felt only moments ago... the floor felt so very cold. To this day, that memory scars my consciousness. And until the very end of it all (probably in a few years when a new Expansion is released), I will never forget... the
Blackwing Descent
.

Some epic stories up in here. <3
I don't think a single BWD raid goes by in which someone does not die to the Elevator. I have only come across it a few times, as I have only raided once in there, but I quite nearly was claimed by the Elevator Boss. It dropped right as I was about to get on, but I thankfully was able to land before it took down more than 80% of my health. So, I have 0 deaths to the Elevator Boss atm...I plan to keep it that way.
Unlike our (poor?) resto druid, who I am sure has died many, many times to it. He seems to have the bad luck of saying, "Well, I'll go do it!" and then dying.
Makes me very jealous of you paladins with your bubbles. Our tank and holy pally just go "lol nubz" and jump off, turning around to /rude us who have to wait for the boss to come back up.
