Kill XT-002 Deconstructor on Hard mode.
Every 25% HP, the heart becomes vulnerable. Destroying it gives him the
Heartbreak
buff, healing him to full and significantly boosting damage and health. This will also cause Gravity Bombs to spawn void zones and Life Bombs to spawn
Life Sparks
, which cast
Static Charged
on the raid.
Once XT-002 is in hard mode, he no longer goes into exposed heart phases, so no stun and +100% damage debuff but also no spawning of adds (apart from Life Sparks).

The actual text for the achievement is a typo here.
It's supposed to say "XT-002 Deconstructor slain".

I have a question regarding this hard mode encounter if anybody know the answer.
Suppose we kill the hearth the first time XT gets to 75%, this will trigger the hard mode, which means XT gets healed back to full HP and deals more damage.
However, when XT is already in hard mode and gets down to 75% again, does the heart come out? If it does, and we kill the heart again, does it heal XT back to full again? My guess is it probably won't come out since we already "destroyed" the heart on the first try.
So if the heart does not come out, do we still have to deal with the bots? Seems like unreasonable to do that if that is the case since the enrage timer is still 6 minute and we have to defeat a XT that has 140% of the original health in about 5 minutes.
My guild may try this next week to find out, but if anybody knows the answer before that, please share.

For some reason, his normal hard mode is bugged.
Normally he has 6mil HP. After you kill the heart, with the new buff, he should gain 45% health and 35%.
Well we took on his hard mode last night, and he ended up having 12.5mil HP, instead of 8.7mil. Not sure if that's intended with the new 10 minute 'rage timer.
Blizz confirmed that 12.5mil HP is the correct amount. His HP increases 150% now instead of 45%.
Damage is increased by 40%, as well.
Re: Heartbreaker
Xeno, to answer your question: After you kill the heart, the boss no longer spawns adds.
You will still have to kill the existing adds, if there are any up, but he will no longer spawn them for the remainder of the encounter. As you have destroyed his heart, it will no longer pop out.
What happens is the
Gravity Bombs
will turn into a Void Zone after they explode, and the
Light Bombs
will turn into a mob called a
Life Spark
.
Life Spark:
100k HP
800 nature damage to the raid every ~2-3 seconds
~6000 melee on plate (I wasn't looking at the combat log when it hit me, but it hits hard nonetheless)
Just have a couple ranged dps take out the spark while everyone else stays on the boss. Surviving the Tympanic Tantrums is absolutely key, since they also do an increased amount of damage. Healers will go OOM if you're not prepared.

Well like derrio said already before, his hardmode has to be bugged.
Since Patch 3.1.1 there are only 5 mio Hp.
We killed the heart (now 1.8 mio hp) within 25 sek and without bloodlust but then we stood face to face to a xt-002 with 12.5 million hp.
5 mio hp * 1.45 = 7250000 Million hp <-- those are the HPs which he normally should have.
The 12.5 Million HP problem was already before 3.1.1.
And if it is intended that XT-002 should have 12.5 mio HP the tooltip of his buff has to be changed.
It is a lot of fun to try him Hardmode
Greetz so far

People are saying that adds stop? We were still getting all the normal adds + the sparks after entering hard mode. Plus a ton of health, as mentioned above.
edit: may have been residual adds come to think of it

We just took him to 50% and wiped cos of enrage. Enrage times is 10 min and starts when u pull the boss. Well problem is lack of dps, its doable with 2 super healers and 3-4 rogues in the raid. If he has atleast 7-8million hp then we probably killed him, but instead we just killed him in 2min 30 sec for another achievement.

Assume the following facts do not change:
Boss has 5,000,000 HP
Heart has 1,800,000 HP and takes double dmg
Hard Mode increases HP by an additional 150%
Enrage is 10 min
You would first need to DPS the boss to 75% (1,312,500 HP)
Then kill the heart which takes 100% additional Damage (So 900,000 effecitve HP, needing 30,000 Raid DPS)
Then the boss will heal to full plus the 150% buff (Giving him 12,500,000 HP)
Meaning your group needs to be able to go through 14,712,500 HP in 10 min (600 sec)
So your raid must be able to maintain 24,520 DPS
1 Tank (Dealing half the dmg of the DPS), 2 Healers, 7 DPS = 3269 DPS/person
1 Tank (Dealing half the dmg of the DPS), 3 Healers, 6 DPS = 3772 DPS/person
This does not take into consideration DPS lost due to adds and Light bombs/gravity wells

after u do transition from normal to hard mode fight is pretty straight forward.
send gravity bombs to the left and light bombs to the right ( or vice versa ) as long as u always run to the same side with same bomb type.
some tips for surviving the tantrum on hard mode:
- would be awesome to have 2 paladins in the raid 1 ret 1 holy because of hand of protection on raid healer, with HoP healer is immune to all physical damage (tantrum included)
- ret can also specc for divine sacrifice, will also help with absorbing some tantrum damage
- u can basically rotate cd's for trantrum for example on 1st tantrum holy pala casts HoP on raid healer1, then on 2nd tantrum ret pala casts HoP on raid healer2, , for 3rd one u can use health stones ( if u have lock in raid ), then u can use bloodlust on 4th one, after that for 5th one ull have HoP ready again from retadin etc ...
also NEVER use cloak of shadows / bubble when u have light bomb if spark from previous light bomb is up, ull end up hurting your raid more from static shock and ull just make your offtank to take more damage which is unnecessary.
try to stack void zones from gravity bombs ( grobbulus was good practice for that )
had 3 healers 1 tank 1 offtank, means we had 4 dps on the boss and 1 dps on the sparks.
with 4 dps constantly on the boss ull need ~5k dps from all of em to be able to do it.
Ok so, 1st tantrum comes after 1 minute of the fight ( according to deadly boss mods ), that means u should have boss on 75% till then, shattering the heart lasts 30 seconds and during that he will spawn some scrap bots and 2 pummelers, if u kill pummelers fast enough that means that u've spent minimum 1min45seconds till that moment ( dont bother with killing scrapbots since he heals to full anyway )
So basically u have 8min15sec (495sec) to deal 12.5 mill damage.
wiped on 5-6% after hitting enrage, so its definitely doable. (750k hp or something)
raid setup was :
-druid (main tank)
-ret
-rogue
-hunter
-lock
-holy pala
-holy priest
-resto shaman
-unholy dk (offtank)
-enh shaman

Just did this myself and it's very doable.
3 healers 1 tank 2 ranged 4 mellee. All mellee is dedicated dps on the boss and does not switch for nothing apart from putting down void zones. The 2 ranged act as dps for the life spark if it is up and this life spark is tanked by the tank tanking the boss, for this reason the life sparks should be dropped closely to the boss in taunt range.
It's a very tight fight and it can purely depend on how many life sparks you get in total and if you actually get him to 75% before he does quake so you dont lose any vital second on watching him doing quake for no reason whatsoever. If you are entering the 30sec mark you might consider droppinng the dps on the sparks and go fullout on the boss, this would save you another 4 to 5 %.

Did this achievement today with a raid group consisting of
- Feral Druid (5550 dps)
- Frost DK (5470 dps)
- Arms War (4730 dps)
- Surv Hunter (4570 dps)
- Ret Pal (4300 dps)
- Blood DK (4100 dps)
- Prot Pal (2350 dps)
- Resto Druid (3570 hps)
- Holy Priest (3300 hps)
- Holy Pal (2945 hps)
After the heart is killed the melee do not need to stop dpsing when they get light bomb, rather they can just move to the side of the boss and continue dpsing without hitting anyone, pretty much the only time anyone completely stopped dpsing was to drop a void zone. We had the blood DK (in full dps gear) taunt the sparks and tank them on top of boss so he could damage both with heart strikes, while the hunter helped kill the sparks as well, everyone else stayed on the boss. We did not get the heart before the first tantrum, and we did not have bloodlust, yet we still had 24 seconds to spare when we killed it.
3 Healers for this fight seems pretty much required to me, our raid HPS was over 11k with 6.4 million effective healing, so while it may be doable with 2 it would be extremely hard and i recommend against it.

This got made alot easier today.
Recent In Game Fixes - 05/19
•The hit point increasing hard mode ability for XT-002 Deconstructor has been reduced to 50% in the 10 player Normal setting, and 60% in the 25 player Heroic setting. The corresponding damage increase for XT-002 has also been reduced to 15%. Life Sparks also have half of their previous hit point values.
Taken off mmo-champ.com
This means around 7,500,000 HP in hardmode compared to the 12,500,000 HP for XT and 50,000 HP on the lifesparks.

We finished this yesterday, 5/19/09, and did not receive credit for achievement. Got 1 conquest badge and the 226 loot though. GM cant give achievement but said they are looking into it.
Group Makeup:
Pally MT
Me Feral (DPS)
Ret, 2 mages, DK, Enhance Shammy
2 trees
1 resto shammy.
I dpsed on heart (no bloodlust needed)
After that died I mostly stayed bear tanking life sparks while mages killed them.
Hard mode took 2 attempts total.
1st attempt we didnt realize that life spark melee hit hurts. And lost people before I started tanking them.

We did this today with one tank and two healers. I (Prot Paladin) tanked and the two healers were a Priest and a Holy Paladin. It wasn't an easy achievement and did take several tries, but we got it. One of the problems we ran into was that the Life Sparks (spawned after a Light Bomb expires) hit for around 8k un-blockable arcane damage on normal players
but can crit for 15k-16k
. So if you don't have someone uncrittable assigned to tank the sparks, you're pretty much testing your luck.
The best way we found to do it was to tank him on the right side of the room between the two scrap piles. We had him facing toward the closest wall (also between the scrap piles). What this does is give you a little more time to kill the bomb bots and (the big) bots because they spawn on the far side of the room. To beat the berserk timer, as stated above, you have to kill the heart as soon as it's exposed at 75%. After that's done, ranged DPS should kill the bomb and trash bots as they approach, but allow your tank to grab the big guys. Once there's sufficient threat there, you can kill them. Anywhere between 0 and 2 big bots can spawn.
It's important to note that clumping up is OK as long as people move quickly when they're bombed. This will help your healers immensely with Chain Heals, CoH, etc.
The other important thing to note is that if you're losing DPS, it's probably going to be because of a Life Spark hitting them during a Tantrum. Your healers are already strained to the max, so that extra healing likely won't happen. Because of this, we assigned two spots beside the boss where anyone who gets a Light Bomb should go. I made a macro that targets, taunts, and Exorcises the Life Spark specifically for this, and while I used it when Tantrums weren't happening, it's important to spam it if there's a Light Bomb on someone and there IS a Tantrum happening so that you pull it off immediately without them taking an 8k hit. The boss' hit box is actually fairly large, so if your melee is grouped well, they should be able to continue DPS even while waiting for a Light Bomb to finish.
After mitigation, the Life Sparks were hitting me for ~6400. Deconstructor was hitting anywhere between 11k and 16k before blocks, so as a Prot Paladin, the max I ever saw was 14.5k. We didn't specifically stack a group to synergize well and while our DPS was alright, it could have been better. We beat the timer by about ten seconds.

This is what I used to target the Life Sparks and taunt them away from the raid on our kill. It's a bashable macro too, so don't worry about taunting the wrong target (unless you left the previous spark alive, obviously). Change out growl with your own taunt ability and the raid target icon at your own leisure. Good luck with your achievement!

Won't you need 45 000 Raid DPS in the heart phase?
900 000 effective HP to be killed in 20 seconds -> 45 000 HP to be destroyed per second
It sounds insane, but with heroism, haste pots, trinkets etc this should still be very doable.

This is a very easy fight. We took the "taunt spark" post from above and modified it slightly.
Our raid spread out 6-8 yds from each other for the ranged and each of our melee on one of XT's heels. This let us generally stay in place for any Light Bombs without ANY raid damage from the ticks. Only movement was due to Gravity Bombs and those were all dropped in the back of the room near the entrance for ranged and the front near the stairs for melee.
If you can dps the heart down in the first heart phase, you can EASILY complete the hard mode. Our raid with three healers, one tank, and six dps finished XT-002 off with over 2+30 left on the enrage timer.
The key is minimizing raid damage and movement. With a little more work we should be able to drop down to two healers and burn through much faster.

Did this yesterday.
Setup: 2 tanks, 2 healers, 2 melee / 4 ranged dps.
XT was tanked at the stairs with tank and melee dps spread out evenly. Melee stayed where they were for the whole fight (except for light/gravity bombs). Ranged and healers were staying cluttered around the boss with a few meters of safety distance. Gravity bomb void zones were dropped everywhere around the boss.
After the initial adds were dead, we had our second tank stand behing everyone else and taunting life sparks. A hunter misdirected sparks to him whenever possible, and people just ran up to him when misdirect was on cooldown. Ranged dps focused down the sparks.
Quite a bit of work with only two healers, but manageable if no one screws up on bombs.

Did this with 1 tank, 3 healers, and 6 dps.
Set up was:
Feral Druid (Tank)
Ret Pally (me)
Fury Warrior
Combat rogue
Enhance Shammy
2x Resto Shammy
Resto Druid
Destro Lock
Elemental Shammy
Didnt burn to 75% without tantrum, but had about 1 min 30 left before the enrage. i was tanking life sparks and lock was bursting them.
had ranged spread in an arc around xt, melee behind xt. if a light bomb comes on the melee, they move to the right of xt, if its on a ranged, they stay in their place. Gravity bombs were dumped on the right and left piles by melee, and behind the arc for ranged.
For the tantrums after the hard mode is engaged, i popped divine sacrifice on the first, lock candy on the second, tranquility on the third, bloodlust on the fourth. haste pots were used when dpsing the heart down to zero. unfortunately aesir's edge didn't drop :(
was fairly easy after we decided on the arc strategy, a lot less raid dmg from stacking ranged.

We did this achievement recently. We ran with 1 tank, 6 dps, and 3 healers.
The setup we used is had ranged group up behind the boss about 20-30 yards away. Gravity Bomb void zones went to the left and Light Bombs went to the right.
When people had Light Bomb, they would run to the right, and then up towards the MT just as the debuff wore off and the Light Spark spawned. The MT would then pickup the life spark. We assigned 1 primary dps on the spark with 1 backup. The backup was used in case the primary dps got hit by Gravity Bomb.
We did not use Bloodlust on the Heart, but saved it to be used on the boss after he was healed up.

Ok, so this is curious. A few days ago, during this year's Hallow's End holiday, my guild decided we were going to try for this achievement as our first Ulduar hard mode. On our first attempt, we succeeded in killing the heart and activating the hard mode, but failed to defeat the boss. It was late, so we called it a night and that was our only attempt of the evening. The next day, all ten of us that were involved in the killing of the heart received a letter in the mail, titled "Glory and Honor", from one named "Parthenia" which read as follows:
"Dear Champion,
Word of your achievements in Ulduar arrived by courier to my small home in Darkshire. My late husband was a great adventurer like yourself but met his demise at the hands of that mechanical monstrosity, XT-002. When word of his death reached me, my heart was broken. I now implore you to shatter the heart of that beast the way mine was shattered. Destroy his heart, champion, and songs of your glory shall spread throughout Azeroth!
For the Alliance!
--Widow Parthenia"
I searched Darkshire, and then wowhead for an NPC named "Parthenia", but returned no results. I thought it strange that I could find no evidence that anyone else had received this letter or even heard of Parthenia, but I just regarded it as one of those little things Blizzard implemented to add a tiny bit of incentive for killing XT's heart. Things got stranger later that week, however, we were successful in defeating XT after destorying his heart. Next day, we all received more mail from this mysterious widow. This new letter was titled "Vindication" and read as such:
"Praise be to the Light!
Your mighty deeds have not gone un-noticed. The retribution you wrought on my behalf has freed my once-vengeful spirit from this mortal plane so that I may be reunited with my beloved once more. For too long have I wandered in darkness bound by the strength of my grudge.
Thank you Champion.
And Happy Hallow's End!"
For all of us, the letter was accompanied by either a Voodoo Skull or a Haunted Herring. I found the ending of this letter most intriguing: "Happy Hallow's End!" This would suggest that these letters are only sent out when you perform the event during Hallow's End. But why is defeating XT on hard mode linked with this holiday? I thought it weird.

Why does this get downrated? There is no other comment here that states his new, fixed 10 man HP on hardmode.

Pretty easy in 3.3.5.
We had two tanks, one of which picked up the first set of adds that spawn as the heart is breaking, and grabbed the subsequent light sparks. It was a bit of dps sacrifice, but it wasn't much of a handicap, we still got the heart down with about five seconds to spare. Our other healer d/c'd about two minutes in, and I managed to (Tree) 1-heal it through the completion of the fight with my battle res and two other druids with innervate/brezzes. Setup worked, with two healers it's probably even easier =P

Soloed as a Demo Warlock with Voidlord.
Tactic:
Boss is tanked by a Voidlord. Watch out for Tympanic Tantrum which deals damage equal to 10% of your maximum health every 1 sec for 8 sec. You can reduce the damage taken by poping up defensive cooldowns. Before every Tympanic Tantrum you must be healed to maximum HP. At 75% of maximum health, he will show his heart that you have to destroy. After the destruction of his heart Boss goes to a Hard Mode and heals himself to the full. Remember to kill the remaining adds. During Hard Mode watch out for Tympanic Tantrum, don't stand too close to Voidlord with Gravity Bomb debuff and kill Life Sparks. Good Luck and Have Fun!

Soloed this as a Feral Druid with ilvl 484, broke heart first time it went down, then popped Berserk and Nature's Vigil as soon as he came back up in hard mode. Nature's Vigil's healing + Predatory Swiftness Healing Touches got me through the first tantrum, and I popped Survival Instincts, Barkskin, and Might of Ursoc to get through the second. Use Nature's Vigil again as soon as it becomes available, and use Nature's Swiftness + Healing Touch as often as needed/possible.
I had a few close calls but managed to get through it pulling 62607 dps according to recount, I even got Must Deconstruct Faster at the same time. Good luck!

Doing this achievement post 6.0 you need to be very careful. Do not use any DoTs as they can, and most likely will, kill him before the Heart even activates. I made this mistake on my 600 Feral Druid with using just Rake and Moonfire.

Update for 6.1, same basic concept applies, do very slow DPS until the heart comes out, attack the heart, then attack the boss. Should be done in 1 minute

I'm a 925 ilvl paladin. I didn't have to unequip anything but it was a bit close.
1. Auto-attack XT-002 Deconstructor once, then turn off auto-attack. For me this took off about 75% of his health.
2. Wait for his heart to come out and quickly kill it with single-target abilities.
3. Once the heart is dead, kill XT-002 Deconstructor. Done.
