Kill the Flame Leviathan on the hardest hard-mode on normal difficulty.
There are 4 defence towers in the gauntlet leading to the Flame Leviathan which can be activated by talking to the
Lore Keeper of Norgannon
before
talking to
Brann
to start the gauntlet. Activating a tower and leaving it intact will activate a unique Orbital Defense System on the Leviathan. Each Defense System grants the Leviathan an extra ability, increases his health by 40% (multiplicative!), gives him a unique buff, converts all dropped
Emblems of Valor
to
Emblems of Conquest
and increases the number of Emblems. Killing the Leviathan with all Defence Systems active is the hardest hard mode and allows the raid to get the Orbit-uary achievement, 3 Emblems of Conquest and 1 piece of loot from the Hard-Mode loot table, in addition to the normal loot.
The following abilities complicate the fight when all 4 Defense Systems are active:
The Flame Leviathan has 88 million HP
Tower of Storms
:
Thorim's Hammer
- Physical damage. Extra damage at point of impact. Also
increases physical damage by 25%
Tower of Flames
:
Mimiron's Inferno
- Fire damage and a AoE damage zone. Also
increases fire damage by 50%
Tower of Frost
:
Hodir's Fury
- Frost damage and entombs vehicles near the impact point in ice. Entombed vehicles are stunned for 1 minute, taking damage over time. The tomb can be destroyed with fire damage, a single cannon shot will suffice.
Also
slows players for 20%
Tower of Nature
:
Freya's Ward
- Nature damage and summons
Writhing Lasher
and
Ward of Life
adds. Also
decreases fire damage taken by Leviathan by 10%
HP and loot results of leaving up fewer towers with Hard Mode active:
0 Towers | 1 Towers | 2 Towers | 3 Towers | 4 Towers
HP 23 | 32 | 45 | 63 | 88
Emblems 1 | 2* | 2* | 3* | 3* (* = Emblem of Conquest)
Loot normal | normal | normal | normal | Normal + hard

Rumors have been spreading within my guild that activating hard mode on Flame Leviathan activates hard mode for the rest of the instance. I was under the assumption that you could do Flame on hard mode, receive your extra loot and better emblems, and continue to do the rest easy-mode. Anyone confirm? :)

Each boss has an individual and unique hard mode. These are all mutually exclusive of each other. Therefore when you do Flame Leviathan on hard mode, everything else is by default, easy mode. You have to engage hard mode on each boss or meet certain criteria.

We attempted this today (which means post-nerf of course)
Setup:
2 Demolishers (5 people, with 1 pre-loaded)
2 Siege Engines (4 people)
1 Chopper
Basics:
Stack about 10 pyrite on each corner before you start (more the merrier, but we weren't exactly patient about it)
Do not launch until he starts chasing someone
Demolishers stay at the far south corners (one on each side), and just unload the crap out of FL in the beginning
We had the issue with the demolishers with 3 people getting initial kite like at least 90% (out of like 15 or so attempts) of the time (might be just our luck). This is probably not intended, however, since there are couple times that demolisher isn't targeted first.
Blue (Frost) and Red (Fire) beams are random movement, just dodge 'em. Green (Adds) are always at the 4 corners.
The Blue beam doesn't instant freeze you if you go under it, you see this huge snowflake (for lack of better description) that falls into the ground, which will THEN freeze you if you're in the beam (not much a big issue if you get frozen since 1 blast from the demolisher will break you, which is not the case pre-nerf; this is the lesser of all evils).
Red beam will drop a huge fireball in the ground then fall in a random STRAIGHT path making a line of fire (avoid this at all cause because it's insanely massive damage)
Will be an AOE unavoidable raid wise damage pulse from Thorim in addition to a ground effect that does huge huge damage to you. The ground effect looks like when you destroy a spark in the Malygos encounter and should be avoided at all cause.
2 Type of adds. These generally rape chopper and demolishers quick if left alone. All vulnerable to Tar. Small ones will die from two Siege Engine's "1" Attack, or one "3" attack. Big one will die from around four to five "1" attack, or two to three "3" attack.
Each pyrite takes 10 out of your 100 pyrite reserve. Each pick up will refill 50, each rush takes around 50.
ONLY LAUNCHER CASTERS (it doesn't matter if they can't self heal, but if it's a melee, they can't reach bother Turrets).
Tactics:
First overload
Demolisher drivers, go nuts on pyrites, unload as much as you can. If you're demolisher and you have initial aggro and you feel that you can't keep up the stacks while kiting don't bother wasting your pyrite just yet. Just run. If you don't get targeted or confident that you can launch, kite, and stacking pyrite, both should be at max range (if possible) spamming pyrites. If you position correctly and not have initial aggro, you can sit there and spam pyrite, because the moment he switches target and gets close to you, he should have overloaded.
Second overload
Choppers be quick to pick up your passenger, and the one being picked up will have to call it over vent to have the one about to be launched to grab 1 more stack of pyrite, speed boost, then load him/herself into the catapult. Adds will start spawning at this point as well as all the all orbital system will be online, so beam dodging will become important.
Siege Engine Perspective
As driver, you kill adds. Before each switch, he'll toss up flame vent, time yourself so you know when to switch back and forth between adds and FL to interrupt.
As gunner, your "1" attack will destroy the small and big adds quick, use it often. If no adds are up, for the love of god, SHOOT DOWN MORE PYRITES.
Chopper Perspective
Spray Tar everywhere. Fly around and have fun watching TV while rest of the team calling out every single little thing on vent. Well not really. You're the squishiest one out there. If you die the raid wipe because it's extremely (almost impossible outside a paladin) to survive after getting ejected from FL without being picked up.
Demolishers Perspective
As driver, you stack more pyrite, once a stack of 10's up there, DO NOT LET IT DROP, you lose SO MUCH damage if you let it drop even once. If he target you, you should be at max range, you should still be unloading damage on him. The moment he gets close to you speed and get away, but BACK pedal if you have to once you're far to make your stack DOES NOT fall off. You need to be aware of pyrite on the ground. I just call for speed at 80/100 pyrite, do one more stack to refresh the stacking, run to the nearest pile of pyrite, grab one and start unloading again. Remember, you use pyrite super quick, if you notice the ground's running dry, call it out to the raid early because you use up an amazing amount of pyrite super quick.
As gunner, you shoot down more pyrite, grab every single pyrite you see on the ground as soon as you hit below 75. If you have time, kill little adds, but preferably shoot down more pyrite.
Third Overload
If you get here with everyone alive it's pretty much waiting to collect loot.
Additional Tips:
Siege stick close to your demolishers to kill adds please. Chopper really just spray target in flame's path, but not during his flame vent sessions if somehow none of the siege are close to stop it. Always kite at the edge. Be smart about shielding if you're a Siege Gunner (especially during Thorim's ability). Siege driver if you rush through beams, you don't take damage (but ONLY if you're end COMPLETELY away from the beams and the line of fire). Demolishers driver don't be shy on using your pyrite to speed up, once you keep a stack of 10, just make sure you don't let it fall off. Demolisher Gunner make sure to keep your pyrite barrel full the entire time if possible and shoot down more if you see the tank going dry, only attack adds when the ground's full of pyrites. Aim to take 33% of his health at each overload.
I didn't bother grammar check this because it's way too much stuff to go through. I tried to make it as easy to read as possible format wise. Hope this helps people trying to get it.
EDIT: Changed the pyrite value thanks for marklartank's correction, I forgot I was using an UI that shows my energy at max is 50, not 100 like the Blizzard default's.

It's an achievement series. I believe that if you haven't completed the 1/2/3 tower achievements yet and click Orbit-uary in the Glory of the Raider achievement it will go to the lowest one in the series that you haven't completed. The same way if you click the recipes link in the Chef meta achievement or the 1000 fish caught in the fishing meta achievement it will link to the current lowest level step in the series you haven't completed.
Orbit-uary is required for the Glory of the Raider achievements.
This is completely true. And yet it was downrated? ...
And he never said it will not give you all 4 achievements. He just said if you CLICK it, you cannot see the "orbit-uary" achievement. You can only SEE the lowest one in the series. If you go from 0->4 towers, first you will see the "1 tower up" achiev, then you will see "orbit-uary". You will never see the 2/3 achievs, even though you have completed them.

Completed on 7/19/10 with three wipes for people to get the hang of some unfamiliar roles. A group experienced with FL should have zero problems skipping 1-3 and going for all four orbital defense measures.

Soloed as a Warlock.
Tactic:
In this fight you will use vehicles. Before the pull you have to place 2 Siege Engines in the south-east corner of the Boss' room and Demolisher along with Demonic Circle in the north-east corner of the Boss' room. Start the fight from the south-west corner of the Boss' room and kite Flame Leviathan towards SE Siege Engines and then towards NE Demolisher (don't kite right into it). You will have to slowly stack pyrite to 10 via Hurl Pyrite Barrel ability. At the beginning of the fight and near NE Demolisher (when you run out of pyrite) you should also hit Boss via Hurl Boulder ability. After the destruction of your Demolisher, use Demonic Circle and jump into NE Demolisher. At this point, Flame Leviathan begins to move towards the SE Siege Engines - let him get some distance, but don't wait too much, because he will switch to you soon. Now you will have to stack pyrite faster and kite Boss as best as possible. Remember to avoid the blue beams (red beam is currently bugged -.-). Good Luck and Have Fun!

Two-manned this last night with a level 90 Blood Death Knight and Mistweaver Monk wearing greens and blues from MoP questing -- approximately 435 itemlevel. (Not that our classes mattered for this fight, as it is entirely vehicle-based.)
Neither of us had ever been to Ulduar before this achievement run, and went into each fight with only a few minutes of research into the hardmode achievement beforehand.
This fight is one of the more difficult ones to get used to due to the unfamiliar vehicle mechanics, but easy once you get the execution down.
Clearing the trash:
Talk to the
Lore Keeper of Norgannon
at the entrance and tell him to start up the defense systems. This will activate the four towers that cause the achievement. Then talk to Brann and start the encounter.
Have each person get into a
Salvaged Demolisher
and head out. Destroy the towers that the iron dwarf mobs are coming out of, because they will keep spawning until the towers are destroyed. These are NOT the towers that trigger the achievement, so don't worry about that. If you aggro helicopters, move away from them so they come closer to the ground, then kill them with boulders.
Do not kill the last of the mobs at the closed northern gate until you are ready to fight the boss, because this will cause the fight to begin.
If you wipe on the boss, all of the vehicles will be moved to the boss area, and the teleporter at the entrance will take you directly back to that spot so that you can quickly start again.
Boss Strategy:
No matter how epic you think you are at level 90, you MUST fight in vehicles. With all four towers up, he has 88 million health, far far more than any other boss you will fight in this tier. Even at level 90, he will very rapidly murder you if he catches you outside of a vehicle.
Each player will drive their own Demolisher. For this fight, you have two buttons that matter. Both of these abilities can only fire straight ahead, and the vehicles cannot strafe.
Hurl Boulder
(on 1) deals some damage to the targeted area with no cooldown or resource cost.
Hurl Pyrite Barrel
(on 2) causes a stacking DoT debuff to the targeted area and costs 5 units of fuel. You start with 50 units, and don't really have any way of getting more fuel once you run out (that I could figure out) so you basically have ten uses of this ability before it runs out.
The key to this fight is to refresh the DoT late so that it ticks as much as possible, but DO NOT LET IT FALL, because you're depending on those higher-stack ticks to do most of the damage. A rotation of 2-1-1-1 worked pretty well for me, though you can probably wait longer before refreshing it if you're confident in your latency.
Ignore the plants and lights and all that other stuff going on around you. Your vehicles have several million health at this item level, and you should outlast all of that stuff. Trying to dodge all of it will just mess up your rotation.
Start the fight from opposite corners of the room. Flame Leviathan will choose one of you as a target and start moving slowly towards you. That player will need to move backwards towards a corner while the other player follows at a safe distance. Both players are following their rotation the whole time. Before he reaches the first target, he should switch targets to the other person. The second player should then start moving backwards.
Both players' DoT stacks should reach 10 and the boss will die shortly after. If you failed to keep the stacks up the whole time, or stacked them up to 10 too quickly, he will likely still have between 5 and 15 million health left, and there is no way you're going to take him down the rest of the way with nothing but boulders. The boss and all of his adds will quickly overwhelm you. We wiped three times before we got it down just right.

I was able to solo this today as a 90 Warrior (ilvl 538) and wanted to share my strategy. Using the strategy already uploaded by AventuraPL does put most of us at a disadvantage as, well, we're not all warlocks with the Demonic Circle ability to quickly send ourselves to another part of the area. So using his strategy I was able to tweak it a little to fit my class and perhaps this can help other classes as well looking to solo this.
The Setup:
First, per the post by AventuraPL, place both Siege Engines at the SE corner.
I also placed both motorcycles at the SW corner as having extra vehicles will come in handy.
I placed one Demolisher at the NE corner but be careful not to move up to this corner being close to Leviathan as I have aggroed him before.
Once all vehicles are in place get in the last Demolisher and sit at the bottom facing Leviathan (south end).
The Fight:
I started the fight by launching Pyrite at Leviathan then launching a couple cannonballs. Per another post using the method of Pyrite then 2 cannonballs (2-1-1) seems to work effectively in the beginning but the real damage to Leviathan comes from stacking as much Pyrite as possible (10 stacks is max) so don't worry about using cannonballs as much.
Once Leviathan gets close start working your way around the area going counter clockwise in somewhat of a circle to the NW corner (again this is using the strategy provided by AventuraPL). Every couple seconds or so turn around quickly and launch a Pyrite to keep the stack on him active. If you'd like you can turn around and launch a cannonball in between Pyrites but make sure you keep moving and keep stacking the Pyrite. Once you get close to the NW corner you should by then have a stack of 10 Pyrite on Leviathan and start laying into him with cannonballs. Try to make sure when you stop here to make sure you're facing North as this will come in handy when he finally destroys your Demolisher. By the time he destroys your current Demolisher he should be down between 30-40% health.
*Note: Stacking Pyrite to 10 is essential in taking down Leviathans health.
*Note: Avoid the blue beams as if you sit in them they will freeze you.
*Note: Ignore the smaller adds as they won't damage you and they may eventually be killed by Pyrite or cannonball explosions.
So once your Demolisher is destroyed you need to quickly start moving to your other Demolisher in the NE corner. By now Leviathan is on top of you so you need to use your abilities to make some quick distance between you and him. This is where facing North comes in handy as you can immediately start moving right and away from Leviathan as facing east you have to go through him. As a Warrior I was able to use
英勇飞跃
but others may use their abilities as well. In addition to using your ability to quickly get away from Leviathan I found using a
暗水药水
to speed you up for 15 seconds to be a life saver.
*Note: During the fight as your other vehicles sit idle they will take damage and sometimes they will be destroyed.
So hopefully your second Demolisher isn't destroyed by now but most of the time if it's still alive it will be down to half it's health or less. If you're successful in getting to it and jumping in it seems like the aggro on you will wipe and Leviathan will start heading to another one of your idle vehicles if they haven't been destroyed by now. This is why it's very important to bring in the motorcycles as well just in case the Siege Engines are destroyed you have something else waiting to draw Leviathans attention.
So now Leviathan will start moving away from you so once he gets at max distance from your Demolisher start launching Pyrite. You may get 3-4 stacks of it before he gets close and again you need to start moving and launching to get as much of it to stack as you can. I was able to launch a few more before he was on top of me and I had to stop, turn around, and keep launching Pyrite until he destroyed my Demolisher. By then I must've had a good 8 stacks of Pyrite and that was enough to finish him off.
Make sure once your second Demolisher is destroyed you move away quickly using your abilities but unfortunately you cannot use Darkwater Potion again. As I started running away the Pyrite finished off Leviathan and I was awarded all 4 achivements.
Be aware that sometimes your second Demolisher will be destroyed before you have a chance to get to it. If this happens you'll need to wipe and try again. Also, your other vehicles may be destroyed before you can get to your second Demolisher and if this happens Leviathan will have no choice but to come after you and by then you will have no time to dump as much Pyrite to finish him off. Wipe and start over.
I noticed that after my first Demolisher was destroyed Leviathan did hit me once maybe twice and the damage from his ram didn't seem substantial enough so hopefully this strategy will help cloth wearers as well.
Big thanks to AventuraPL for helping me get started. Definitely use his video to get an idea of how to move around in your first Demolisher.
Good luck!

I just did this solo. This
video
helped guide me, but I did it a little differently.
This was my method to get started:
1. Start the hard mode by talking to
诺甘农的看门人
.
2. Mount a chopper and rush to the boss area.
3. Kill the mobs by the end gate and let the boss spawn. You might want to take your gear off because you're going to kill yourself.
4. Resurrect and teleport back to the boss area. Now all the vehicles are available right next to the boss. Much more convenient!
5. Place one siege engine on the right corner and place a demolisher in the left corner.
6. Grab the other demolisher and move to the siege engine.
---- Begin the Fight ---
7. Hurl one pyrite at him and spam the cannonball for a few hits, then pyrite again. Try to repeat this, but don't let the pyrite debuff fade away from the boss.
8. As he gets closer to you, you're going to circle around him, while spamming pyrite (main goal is to get away, so forget the cannonball now, just turn around to add another stack of pyrite).
9. Make your way to the other side, close to the other demolisher but not right next to it.
10. Once you get 10 stacks of pyrite, spam cannons until the demolisher dies.
11. The boss should head for the siege engine, but make your way quickly to the other demolisher.
12. This part is a little bit of luck, depending on the health at the end of the first demolisher's demise - spam pyrite now, try to get ten stacks up. If you get that and the demolisher is alive, spam the cannon after stacks are up.
13. If the boss isn't dead after the demolisher goes, it should be low health at least. use all of your DPS cooldowns and try to burn him down. If you got lucky, you already beat him before this.
I actually lost my demolisher and the debuff with the boss at about 3000k health left, so I was able to burn him down really quick. Very lucky, but I could have done better!
Good luck!

I solo'd this today on my hunter, took me 5 attempts before I swapped from "crouching tiger, Hidden Chimera" to "Posthaste" and i one shotted it easily.
Just prolong the dot from the demolishers, while using its normal attack, then (as ranged) i ran, while dpsing down the last of its hp. Mobility is crucial, if hes constantly in range of you, he'll rape your hp.
For melee this isn't possible to solo.

Was able to solo this yesterday as ilvl550 Blood DK.
Went in unholy spec for the speed/haste boost. I had setup spare vehicles around the arena, but never needed them. First demolisher killed Leviathan at around 6 stacks, using 2-1-1.
The whole fight lasted about 30 seconds.
Post-squish, it should be doable around ilvl530 or so,with only using one vehicle.
This was the first attempt in 10man i had tried.
Was also able to get All the achieves up to yogg with very little effort. Still working on medium rare dwarf.

There seems to be a bug in 6.0.3 where the game thinks the towers are destroyed, therefore making the achievement impossible atm.

Easily soloable as ilvl520 destro lock. Speak with the lorekeeper, to activate secondary defense system, hop in to demolisher, and run through the mobs backwards, yes, backwards and shoot with cannon all the mobs that follow you. Then engage FL and zerg him down with pyrites.(ability #2) No need for 2nd demolisher.

At level 100 now, it's fairly simple. Just remember that you NEED to talk to Lorekeeper Norganonn before you do this, otherwise you won't get it!
You can get all 4 achievements by keeping all 4 towers up, so it's fairly easy going.
I suggest using a Demolisher as they pack a punch and easily destroy the towers on the way to Flame Leviathan, but it's probably doable with the other machines as well.
Good luck on getting your mounts :)
Edit: Should be mentioned that you don't need to destroy towers if you want a quicker run. If you run into the boss area (without killing all the adds there) the tower-adds should stop spawning and you should be able to nuke them down and not need to worry about them spawning and bothering you whilst killing the boss. :)

Just an update for 6.1 patch
First if you haven't been here before, Ulduar is a lot of fun but it's very long. Don't get discouraged by the size of this first room. When you enter the instance, head down the first steps and talk to the big guy in the middle.
He will activate the defenses, then hop in a siege engine on either side. The Demolishers are easiest as mentioned here before. You don't actually need to attack all the towers but I recommend taking out at least a few, it makes the boss fight a bit easier.
Finally as you make your way across the area you can ignore stuff left and right, I focused straight down the middle.
Also there is a recharge station close to where you will engage the boss. Just drive over it to refuel. Do this before engaging the boss. To start the fight, just kill all the big mobs guarding a door, that will start the event.
The fight itself is very easy just keep spamming your siege attacks.

This is possible to solo without vehicles. I was working on one of the strats already mentioned where you go to FL and die on purpose so that the vehicles all respawn next to him, but I ended up killing him without any vehicles in the process.
Previously I had kept dying to Hodir's Fury, as it would stun me long enough that everything could dps me down. But in this attempt I learned that as long as you never stood still, it wouldn't be able to land on you.
So basically it took me about ten minutes of running around, using Fan of Knives to generate combo points off of random adds and then hitting Eviscerate on the boss (he is immune to bleed damage).
The key is to avoid getting pinned against a wall, so most of the time I was strafing around him in the center of the room. This isn't quite as simple as it sounds as his melee attack will punt you into the air and drive you towards the walls, but it's possible to avoid getting pinned.
With the legacy raid buff, health isn't too big a deal if your class has any ability to heal itself. In my case as a rogue, leeching poison was plenty, as the healing done after landing an Eviscerate was always enough to get me back to full health.

Be level 100+.
Enter Ulduar.
Go down the stairs.
Talk to Lorekeeper Norgannon.
Tell him to activate secondary defenses.
Mount up.
Ride directly to the gate at the very far end of the very long room.
Kill everything in sight.
See gate get smashed as Flame Leviathan comes to kill you.
Kill Flame Leviathan instead.
Get achievement.
Dance like Snoopy.
Carry on.

Just did this on my lvl 98, undergeared priest. Use the demolisher and just spam the second ability (Hurl Pyrite Barrel) at him as fast as you can. Even if you get kicked out of your siege engine, he should only have a sliver of health left that you can knock off pretty fast.
