The Obsidian Sanctum is a fight against Sartharion and 3 Adds. Keeping one or more adds alive before killing Sartharion is called the "hard" mode.
1 Add alive (10 Players) : Extra ilvl 200 Item
2 Adds alive (10 Players) : Extra ilvl 213 item
3 Adds alive (10 Players) : Reins of the Black Drake
Pretty much the same with 25 players, but with slightly better gear.
1 Add alive (25 Players) : Extra ilvl 213 item
2 Adds alive (25 Players) : Extra ilvl 226 item
3 Adds alive (25 Players) : Reins of the Twilight Drake
In a pug where you only have two tanks, and the dps isint killing the adds for drake mounts and titles, where the OT and Main healer just died. And the raid is doomed to wipe and break up. That is a instance, called the twilight zone. *
Duh Duh Duh Duh
Many believe that you have to keep the adds alive under the entire of the fight and kill Sarthation before them, well its not it. All you need to do is exactly as the title says, Do not kill the adds, Have them alive WHILE engaging the boss. When you do so, the adds will fly and land in the zone where your raid have pulled the boss. When they lands, have your tanks pick them and you can kill them one by one, when the adds are dead, go for the boss.
The drakes will go enrage if you try to nuke Sartharion, so you have to kill them in every case. The fight would also be way too easy if you just nuke him. DPS, movement and damage avoidance (especially on the Sartharion tank) is the key.
You'll get rewarded with a drake (Reins of the Twilight Drake), 2 t7 hands, 3-4 epics, 22slot bag and the satchel (contains gold, 5 emblems of valor). Unfortunately, the drake has only 280% speed.
Whoever says that this is too easy - it's not. This is currently the hardest encounter in the game. If you think that if you can manage 2 drakes then and 3 can't be much harder - think again. It's Kael'thas all over.
as stated previously, if sartharion goes below 25% health while drakes are still alive, the drakes will 1 shot your raid.
A question that doesn't seem to have been asked:
Why not DPS one of the drakes down to close to dead (probably
) then engage
You are still
engaging him while all 3 drakes are still alive
, so it seems like this would be the best way to do this, since you're starting the fight with essentially one drake dead.
I believe this is something of a raid variant of
Watch Him Die
, save for the fact that the adds may be killed before the boss.
Each time you kill a drake, Sartharion gets a buff that increases his damage dealt and attack speed by 25% each. On 2 drakes, it stacked to 50%. I have not yet done 3 drakes, but I would assume it goes up to 75%, so you will need big heals on your main tank when the drakes are down.
As shadowpriest I've found a good macro for dealing with adds if they tanked by DK.
/cast Devouring Plague
It's pretty usefull and timesaving, also givin you huge offheal and when it kill add you will get
wich is quite usefull since there a really many adds during this fight and fight itself is pretty long.
Chuck Norris won't do Obsidian Sanctum because there's no +4 option.
Sarth 10 3D up down in 76 seconds,
. check video here
Our guild uses a warrior to tank Sarth during 3d25, for his
, and our lack of a full time feral druid.
What we do is have everyone burn cooldowns and Potions of speed on Tenebron, AoE the Lava Blazes before Shadron lands, and pop Heroism on Shadron.
The key part of this fight is killing Shadron as fast as possible to reduce the amount of time the
100% fire damage aura
75% fire/shadow damage Twilight Torment
is on the main tank (While Rotating
Hand of Sacrifices
. If your DPS can kill Shadron without killing themselves and without letting the main tank die, you basically have free titles. Once Shadron is dead we go into every Vesperon portal until Vesperon is at about 25%, then we just burn Vesperon. Once Vesp dies, kill the add inside the portal, finish off Sarth, and cheer.
We usually start rotating cooldowns when Shadron lands until Vesperon dies. Normally about 1:40 worth.
Don't let your blaze tank get overwhelmed, he should call when to aoe them, only when Tenebron dies, and when just Vesperon is up.
So, if we get the title "
Vanquisher", does that mean we can go around vanquishing sparkling, emo vampires?
Stormrage EU Sartharion 25 man with 3 drakes up. We have killed him in our 3rd try -26.06.2009 - PUG
There is link to video:
Because of the "zerg" tactic on Sarth3D 10-man this title is actually harder to get now than its 10-man equivalent. I don't think 25-man version can be zerged, in full t9 it will be most likely possible, but even now this fight requires coordination and good use of cooldowns.
Yesterday our guild finaly managed to get 3D down. We have had the DPS needed for quite a while. I think latency caused a lot of wipes for us.
When we cleared the trash I had 71 in latency. On the first go (we almost succseeded) I had 139. Then all of a sudden I got 300+ and was killed by fissures. Then I turned off all addons and latency was 139. Several other did the same and we won comfortably.
Getting this achievement will unlock

Hey all, just got this achi a few days ago, we tried the Zerg method and got it on our 3rd attempt. We had 20 Highly geared dps pulling about 5-8k Dps, 3 healers, and 2 tanks. To 'zerg' Sarth in 25man you must have very geared dps, and he must be dropped just after the 2nd drake reaches the ground.
-The term "twilight zone" existed prior to the television program (which found its start in the 1950's), and meant a "gray area."
(Intelligence analysts in the early Cold War labeled a country a twilight zone if there was no definite U.S. policy on whether to intervene militarily to defend it.)
If you are going to zerg this, I think you need atleast 100K+ raid dps, which is pretty much impossible with a pug, plus someone needs to kite the drake(s) which leaves you with about 20 dps. This can only be done with the normal tactic with a pug. Trying today... :)
did it last night With All drakes up without killing them :) The encounter is rly easy now when most of the ppl have tier 9 and lvl 251 and 264 items. The Only problem in the pugs there is making the ppl coordinate theyr movements so they dont get pwned by the fire wall.If the dps is good the fight wont last much more than 1 min and 10 seconds.
Did it 2 days ago in the classic way. It's really not difficult when you are overgeared. It's not a dps race, drakes die very quickly anyway so all you have to do is not to get killed by lava wall/void zone (seriously, if the "not getting killed" part is difficult then you should never ever get this archiev).
One thing that helps is tanking all of the adds near the drake that is being nuked, so the dps can still nuke that drake while aoeing the adds. Also all dps ignore Sarth until you are done with all drakes and adds.
Successfully ZERG'ed her as of 1st Dec 2009, at this time you couldn't get T9 gear for Heroic Emblems so everyone was not in the best gear. One person to look out for is a Mage who was pulling up to 11k DPS Never the less.
It was a fun run and we had easy titles all round,
Watch in HD!
(I am not the hunter filming, I also play a mage here)
Just zerged it, average raid dps was around the 8k mark. one tank and 2 healers, one of which had only a bare few epics and mostly blueys o.O. but the last 400k was done with no tank after the healing failed and the mages just critted her down :). despite the drake mount bieng ninjaed ... twas a fair run for a pug
Can someone please leave a comment of the efficient way to Zerg this?
This is a reference to the song of the Golden Earring, The Twilight Zone.
"Help, I'm stepping into the Twilight Zone
The place is a mad-house, feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go now that I've gone too far."
Actually, it's a reference to "The Twilight Zone," the ubiquitous 1960's television show. The song you're quoting is referencing the show as well.
Got my achieve last night :D
Took about 3-4 tries, and some new DPS, but we got it done.
Ret pallys doing this, some advice:
Seal of Corruption
and every Cd you have helps.
Oh, and if you see you are about to be hit fire, and can't move in time to make it to the safe area, Divine Shield WILL save you....just pop it off after if passes, so it doesn't limit your damage done
There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.
Puged fine with 2 tanks, 3 healers and 20 DPS.
I was in a PUG that one-shot this yesterday using the zerg method. We all stayed back while our hunter pulled Sarth and feigned death to despawn it. We then all mounted up and ran in to take the usual positions. DKs popped their armies after 5-10 seconds and shortly afterward Sarth respawned. We popped Heroism and all cooldowns at the start and before I knew it Sarth was at 45%. I saw 1 void zone and 2 flame walls before Sarth was dead. Around the time Sarth died the first drake showed up and killed everyone. We ran back in and looted. I lost the drake with a roll of 96. :P
The raid's top DDers were pulling 8-9k dps, but most of them were around 5-6k.
lol this is going to sound extremely lame but we had a druid tanking the boss and a DK dps tanking the add. we all just charged no stratagey whatsoever we killed Sarth in 1 minute 9 seconds 17 people above 6k dps (this was a pug)
posted to say that this is now realitvely easy
Yesterday I got in a pug for this achievement and we knocked it out first try. I got my 3 achievements simultaneously (+1 drake, +2 drakes, +3 drakes) and they're in my achievement page, but for some reason the "Twilight Vanquisher" title isn't on my list of titles in the drop down portion of my character screen. Has anyone else had this issue?
You unlock this door with the key of imagination
Beyond it is another dimension
A dimension of sound
A dimension of sight
A dimension of mind
You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance
of things and ideas
You just crossed over into the Twilight Zone.
We did this last night, before the new patch today ;).
Got all 3 achievements simultaneously.
Too bad I lost mount roll lol.
But we did the FD zerg method like raxmus did. Went pretty easy with this pug, after trying 2 times :) Third time worked like a charm.
GL all on getting this title.
if u do sarth 3D with 20 people you dont get the less is more achievement (do it with less than 20) because u have to kill the other drakes too :)
Title and achievement are still obtainable as of 4.0.3
Same raid make-up, 1 tank, 1 healer(doesn't even have to be a good one if everyones got 100k hp) and a truck load of DPS
. . .and just for fun, dont let the idiots who get hit by the fire walls roll on the drake, cause they're dumb
Anyone done this with a minimal group since the exp? I'm curious to see if it is doable with less than ten yet.
Interestingly, in eu.battle.net Armory characters who have the Twilight Vanquisher their title are shown as "Prophet" as title instead of TV. But there is no title like that in WoW according to WoWHead.
Extremely easy to do with 2healers(dudu and priest) 1 tank(warr) and 9DPS(one of each class exept a lock) all level 85 with 350-355 average ilvl
Edit: Forgot to add "As level 85"
Kill Sartharian after starting the fight with all three drakes alive, and you will get all three of these achievements at once from your kill:
Twilight Assist (25 player)
Twilight Duo (25 player)
The Twilight Zone (25 player)
. Note: This is the achievement you need for the
Glory of the Raider (25 player)
I don't know if this already mentioned/known but i will post it anyway.
Today we did a os25 run, we let all drakes alive for the +3D run, we engaged Sartharion but we didn't attacked him, we waited for each drake to come down and once he was down and active we killed him and YES he counted for and the second drake came down, we killed him and he counted too so did the third drake, finally we killed Sartharion and we also got the achievement and he dropped the mount.
3 manned this achievement.
Used a resto druid, protection paladin, and fire mage.
We found a paladin very helpful with the resist aura to reduce breath damage, and his taunt abilities get the adds off the healer without having to turn the dragon and put others in harms way of the breath and tail whip.
Basic strategy is burn down the drakes one by one, we went with Tenebron first because hes up first, then Vesperon who comes third (he reduces raids max HP, we felt that the HP buffer from this was more important then Shadrons extra fire damage) then shadron. If your DPS is good enough to get the first drake down while the third one isnt up, then by all means kill shadron second.
Went into the portal to kill the dragon adds after all three drakes were down.
We also found that the only way to do this is NOT get hit by the firewall, I know that is obvious, but the debuff it gives you is difficult if not impossible to recover from, it just creates a downward spiral of blowing cooldowns and etc that you need elsewhere.
We were all geared in raid finder/valor point gear or 403 PvP gear. It would be much easier with better gear, but we found we were barely able to accomplish this without flawless play. The drakes do a fair amount of damage to tank, we felt getting Tenebron down asap was a big priority, after that we had the mage helping kill the adds here and there.
2-manned, Blood DK and Destro Warlock. We were both lvl 90 with ilvl around 450-465. Blood DK naturally tanked everything; we dps'ed the drakes as they added (zerging requires much more dps than we had), the warlock went into the portal by the end and finished off Vesperon. He then returned to the fight and we easily whittled him down. I recommend Soulstoning the DK, get Healthstones and some item buffs if you can, and spec Lichborne for some healing. Use some AoE to kill the small adds as their damage does add up.
Just soloed it this morning as a Hunter (ilv497). Here's the nice
I put together for it. :3
I averaged 119,790 dps over the course of the fight, which lasted 92 seconds.
Consumables consisted of a flask, 300-stat food, and 4% kings drums.
It took 17 attempts before I managed to down him.
Requires around 120k DPS to solo. If you are trying to do this solo and have failed to kill Sartharion before he phases out, you can click the portal to reset the fight.
I was able to solo this as a 540 feral druid; given that it was quite a close call.
Even with all my gear it was pretty hard to nuke Sarth down before Tenebron's attacks could kill me.
As a feral, positioning is quite important in order to maintain a good DPS and since this is a solo fight, using Shred gets a tad difficult. Take Glyph of Shred so you'll be able to use Shred instead of Mangle in the first few seconds of the fight.
Talents I took that may have helped were: Displacer Beast, Ysera's Gift, Soul of the Forest, and Heart of the Wild.
What I did was:
Stealth and walk all the way
of Sarth (so Tenebron has to fly a bit more to reach you).
Break stealth by using Faerie Fire.
Pop Tiger's Fury + Berserk as soon as you enter combat.
Follow the usual feral rotation, using Shred instead of Mangle until TF and Berserk fall off.
When Tenebron arrives and starts to attack you, pop Survival Instincts and Barkskin.
Once you feel that your DOTs can kill Sarth by themselves, or if Tenebron is hitting you hard, pop Dash and run like hell!
If Sarth isn't dead after your DOTs fall off and you feel you can quickly kill him before Tenebron kills you, go ahead.
Otherwise, just run out of the instance to avoid repair bills.
I averaged 130k DPS on this fight, and only had MoTW on me with no pots/flask.
Hello, soloed today as a 535 ret paladin. Unfortunately the dps meters borked out so I'm not sure what #'s I hit, but if you know your rotations and such you should be able to pull it off just fine. At first I was having problems when Tenebron comes down, as she hits like a truck.
So after clearing trash, what I did was go around and come down the sloped hill between Vesperon & Shadron, stood on the edge of the lava and pulled with a
which has a 45yd range. Popped all CDs and since Tenebron had a much greater distance to travel, Sarth was dead before she got there.
Successfully solo as a 541 BM hunter. Pulled boss towards the entrance portal then nuked using all CD's. Dps after kill showed as 145 including kite to portal. I used a quilen pet for the 5% crit, but I imagine a core hound with heroism would be extremely effective too, maybe even more so.
Talents - 3/1/3/2/2/1, ferocity pet
Glyphs - Animal Bond, Mending, Misdirect
Consumables - ,
Managed to solo him yesterday on my first attempt as a Destruction Warlock.
Even though I didn't get many procs from my trinkets during the fight (which is a huge dps loss), and had Unending Resolve on cooldown I managed to kill him. So as a destro lock this fight is pretty easy and you don't need insane gear, for example my item level is 521. You will probably need a flask and/or some food but if your item level is higher you won't even need those.
Other than your dps there's not much else, you just let your Voidlord tank everything and you nuke the %^&* out of him until he dies, ignore all the adds/drakes. I avoided his Lava Blazes as well although you probably won't suffer much damage from them at these levels.
of my kill
Easily soloed as destro warlock after stat squish.
ilvl 523, Sarth went down in no time at all - drakes didn't even join the fight.
Go get your free mount today! ;)
Well, this one gains my vote for "Best Achievement Name Ever".
