simply not possible with the way you have to wait for elites to spawn. the venomancers for example are on a timer, so you kill the first 2 warriors and then need to wait 10-15 seconds with nothing up for the next wave to spawn and then walk slowly down into you before you can hit them, this amount of waiting around with no mobs up while he's burrowed simeply makes this one impossible right now.

The news on mmo-champion reports about some people who have made this achievement. I think in the conventional way it is impossible. Just nuking him on the plattform... there has to be another way.

I may have stumbled upon the solution to killing the adds that walk down quickly. The first time I ran the instance I did not enter the room on time and got locked out. When the adds spawned that walked down the ramp into the circle, I was able to kill it. So possibly sacrifice a dps or two by leaving them outside?

We just did this with following group:
Tankwarrior
Furywarrior
Combatrogue
Enchshaman
Holypriest
We three DPS:ers ended up at ~2500dps each thruout the fight (including add phase), the important part is to get the timing correct for the cast and having HIGH burst so you skip two burrows.
You have to be able to take like 78%-50% in one cast, and then 28%-0% in the next, all 5 members ofc need to dps while its this part.

To the people saying the 'burn from 76% to 50% when he casts something' method is too luck-based- well, yeah, pretty much; everyone I've seen who both has this achievement and is complaining about how hard it is gives that for the reason. You do need a lot of gear and a lot of skill to get this, but you also need to be really luck two times.

Did this with Ele shaman, Prot pally, FF mage, Bal druid, Lock. Took us several hours to basically get lucky with his casting times. We did this without using bloodlust (bl was down at the time). IMO, this achievement is just a gear check + luck, and the only really hard achievement in the way of getting the drake. Without this particular fight, about 50% of the playerbase would be flying around on red drakes.

We're going to add some time to the completion timer in an upcoming patch so obtaining the achievement won't require the more extreme group compositions and strategies being used.

It may be an 'actual' achievement to get, but for no healer will be able to get this done, at least not for a long time. Once everyone is epic'd out, then sure. Until then you NEED 4 DPS.

Just did this with a full melee group.
Me (prot warr), Dagger rogue, Fury warr, BM hunter and a Enhancement Shaman.
There really is no "trick" to it, it takes HEAVY DPS, combined with pretty much luck.
If you're planning to do this, you need alot of time, and your best players from the guild.
What you need to do is DPS him like crazy, get a "lucky" timing on one of his casted spells with mindnumbing on at 76-80%, burning him down below 50% before he burrows. This will make him spawn 2 waves of adds without re-emerging. When he emerges, you need to once again get a "lucky" timing at 26-30% and burn him down to 0% before he burrows yet again.
Supposing you get the "luckiests" of casts, at 76% and 26%, you need an avarage of 20k total party DPS for approx 8 seconds. His "max cast" with numbing/tounges is 6.4 sec, then you get a free 1-2 seconds when he burrows when the cast is completed. This will give you max 8 seconds to burn ~128k+ HP.
The theorycraft for this;
512k hp / 4 = 128k (25% of his HP = 128k)
128k/8 = 16000
16000/5 = 3200
Meaning each party member will have to do 3200dps for 7-8 seconds, under OPTIMAL conditions. This is with a tank in the party aswell.
We topped our DPS at 24k one try, and it wasn't enough, even though we didn't get the best timings that try.
On our killtry, we got casts at 78% and 31% and had a top of 26k DPS, and then he was litterally underground when he died, even ½ second longer, and he would've gotten away.
The 2 minute timer really isn't the problem, we had over 15 secs left when he died, it's the "luck" with the casts that counts.
Good luck!

The Setup we used for this achiment was myself (Unholy DK tanking, in tank gear using frost pressance), 2 mage's, Destruction warlock, elemental Shaman (healing during boss phase, dpsing during adds phase)
To start with , unless you are in half decent gear and the group is flasked this achivment is going to be almost impossible. How we did it was after you have it all cleared out and its just the last boss the 2 mage's spell steal the buff off the mobs in storm peaks (2 min duration) and you Summon them both back into the instance. Once they appear do a count down, and have Everyone in the group load up a nuke and as they are about to go off have the tank run in and attack and taunt when they land. This should almost drop him to 80-85% right off the bat. Then dps as hard as you can, (the tank cannot really hold agro on this fight thru TPS do to the amount of Dmg the group is doing, you have as long as his taunt duration is really) the DK then Death grips for the 3 second taunt after the initial taunt wheres off, and then Taunts again once that wheres off. This gives you 10-15 seconds to bring him from 85% to 50%.
Your Warlock should have COTounges on him to slow down his cast (this is very important). He should go under at 50% ish. Then have everyone group up and and Single target burn down the elites and also pick off the mini adds if any escape from Death and Decay. You will get 2 waves if done right (the 75% and the 50% waves).
When you are on the last elite blow bloodlust and get ready to trinket / go all out when he resurfaces. Soon as he appears get a CoTongues on him cause he may start to cast early and then same thing as the first phase Taunt, Death grip, Taunt. By that point in time he should be dead or if hes at 1-2% he may go underground and die to dots.
The above ground phase of this fight is really about 30-40 seconds total, it should take 15-20 seconds to get him down the first 50% and a little quicker for the 2nd 50%. So being fast on the adds as well really makes up some time. This is not a one shot fight by any means, even well buffed, well geared, stacked group. Your looking at 2+ hours of attempts with a little luck on crits by you and casts by him. But its definatly doable if you stick too it. Hope this write up helps any trying the achievment , i know it can be a pain

Completed with a group of two fury warriors, enhance shaman, gimp mage and a holy paladin.
Had two burrows, 100%->60%, 60%->40%, and we killed him in the last pass with a cast at 28%.
It is very possible with a healer and also without a cast slow. It's all about being lucky with the cast at the last burrow. No need to nerf this achievement really, people whine too much :(

Got this yesterday with a Fury Warrior, Enh Shaman, BM Hunter, Destro Warlock and a Blood Death Knight. (Tanking in DPS gear with Glyph-ed and Talented Rune Tap)
Without blowing any cool downs, we DPS-ed as hard as we could from 100% and hoped for a cast at around 80% so we could take him below 50%. At around 55 seconds left on the achievement timer, we blew heroism to clear the double wave of adds and burned him from 40% to 0% with all our cool downs used. We also had everyone put DoTs (CoA, Deep Wounds, Diseases, etc) up on him when he burrowed at 25-0%. (Note that you have a small window of time to apply DoTs after he clears them)
We didn't get a good/lucky cast on the last burrow but the DoTs definitely helped finish him off when he burrowed.
Good luck to all the other crazy people trying this before they nerf it. :)

Just got the achievement this morning. We did this with 4 dps and a tank. 2 Hunters (BM, Marks), 1 Rogue (For Mindnumbing poison), Feral Druid (Bearwall tank), and Enhancement Shaman. Every single person used Flask of Endless Rage and Food buffs (We were also all at least 3/5 T7 gear, so I don't suggest this method unless you have the gear and damage to back it up).
We used the method of despawning Anub'arak setting up for when he respawned (30 seconds after despawn). 5 seconds before he respawned, the Enhancement Shaman would pop fire elemental totem, then feral spirits, and the moment Anub'arak respawned, Heroism was popped. The feral druid hit every damage reducing cooldown available and everyone DPS'd. We got a few lucky pounds casted at about 80% and we burned him down all the way to 39% by the time he was completely burrowed. At this point, there's a 4-6 second down time where the Enhancement shman would heal up the tank. All melee shifted to the side the guardian waves came from to pick up the adds as fast as possible. At this point, the Enhancement shaman used Maelstrom weapon procs to keep the group up if needed, but everyone needs to be personally responsible for avoiding the impales.
If done right, there will be two waves of guardians and a wave of venomancers before Anub'arak pops back up. The momen he popped back up, everyone popped a Haste potion and burned him down. We managed to get one final lucky Pound at about 33% and killed him in time.
Something interesting I noted was that when we despawned him first and set up waiting for him, the first pound was always perfect. We only did this method a handful of times, but it seems vastly superior and, as I just mentioned, the first pound seemed to be perfect every time.

Did it today with 1 Prot Pala, 1 Retradin, 1 DK, 1 Warrior, 1 Survival hunter.
The key was on Snake trap's mind numbing poison. Me (the hunter), i first brought a serpent(pet) to keep poison spit skill up. The reduce casting time effect was not working. After 3 days of trying, i put down today a snake trap for the laugh of it, and mind numbing procs. 6.5casting time on pound (YEY!). After failing 2 times on the bad proc rate of the snakes' mind numbing poison, i did HS, made a glyph of snake trap(+more snakes=more chances), and specced survival to get "Trap Mastery" for even more snakes. When i arrived back at the instance, mind numbing procced 100% and we did it first try. (FYI, group's dps was 11.2k)
So...to all out there...if u have a hunter in ur "good 4man dps + 1 hybrid" group, spec him like this and u got this achievement 100%.
Thx

Completed this today after about 2.5 hours of tries. With 5 people on ventrilo, just hold dps for one cast, get him to ~77% before he starts casting his second spell, and then all out nuke to skip burrow phases.
Before the try when we were successful, our group just had some trouble stopping dps and restarting dps at the right time.
This achievement is the hardest of all heroic achievement, but I really would not call it "luck"-based, as the casts can be manipulated with good burst-control after some training.
Bring repair-bots.
And dont forget your portable mailboxes to get the Proto-Drake as fast as possible after the boss is down!

And some more result data for teams of heroes going for pre-nerf kills!
After some unsuccessful/unlucky/unprepared attempts with various setups, finally decided to stop trying to find an Enhance Shaman for BL/WF and just went for the top DPS players I had available at the time. Also sometimes if you try and get a particular class you might get the buff you want, but if he doesn't have superb DPS it's a bit pointless. This was the successful team setup:
Feral Tank, DK, Ret Pal, Rogue, Mage (me). 2 of the team had a few blue items of gear still and no 25 man loot.
As you can see, not much in the way of group synergy, no major group buffs.
From my several hours of attempts in 4 different setups, here are my top tips.
1. take 4 dps, all must be very good players, the classes are not that relevant.
2. Rogue/Warlock/(hunter as described above) for a slow cast effect is almost a requirement although there was at least one team claiming success without.
3. A decently geared tank doesn't need healing in the above ground phase. In the burrow phase, offhealing is good if you have a class with heal spells. Bandage! Avoid spikes!
4. Flask, Foodbuffs, Haste pots
5. Despawn setup (pull boss, move away from platform, 30 seconds to setup) gives 1-2 seconds more dps.
6. Blow CDs at the start, if you don't manage to skip the 75% burrow phase after 5-6 attempts, it's very likely you don't have enough DPS. If you are making it, then just keep trying and eventually you will skip 75% and 25% and get the achievement.
7. Voice Comms, coffee, comraderie, DI, repairbots/mammoths

Caster group signing in
Unholy DK/Mage/Lock/Spriest/enh Shaman (obviously ele sham would be ideal, but we only had an enh available)
We found the encounter different than in weeks past; It seems he always casts early in p1, so we held off full dps for 5 seconds to allow him 2 casts in this phase. Lust during add phase with ~50 seconds remaining if p1 was a success. Took us 4-5 flasked attempts which felt somewhat lackluster (We killed him in 1:57 yesterday as well, but didn't get the achievement)
Dots thrown after he clears/burrows is essential for added damage; ours took off >10% of his health during his first burrow.

Considering the nerf to the achievement will be coming soon (possibly even tomorrow, or today, whatever your time zone.) you may not find this information helpful. However, I just completed this achievement today.
We completed this WITHOUT flasks and only one of us using a haste potion. I would not suggest half-assing this achievement. If you're going to try for it, make sure everyone is ready to spend the gold on repairs and potions. There is no "trick" to this achievement. You just purely need a stacked group with nice dps.
Group composition that we used -
* Paladin (Protection)
* Shaman (Elemental)
* Druid (Boomkin)
* Mage
* Rogue
Important Notes:
- We've found it no longer possible to Spell Steal the buff from Storm Peaks.
- Resetting Anub'Arak (though it may be just a superstition, it only takes a few seconds anyways, just do it.) seems to time his pound better.
- If you're using a caster group, have them pre-cast their spells prior to engaging. As mentioned above, he can be taunted.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that a Hunters snake trap -cast time poison stacks with a Rogues mind numbing poison making his Pounds and Locust Swarms a 7.2second cast.
This method can be seen in our latest competition of this achievement.
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=8vrNUjxEIeY
(Remember to watch in HD)
Another way around this achievement is to bring 3 Rogues, 1 Hunter and 1 DK/Feral tank, have the Rogues spec HAT (Honour among Thieves) which grants the rogue 1 combo point every time a party member crit, but HAT is currently bugged - it is awarding groups with multiple rogues more combo points than intended (if 1 group has 3 rogues and 1 party member crits, the rogues will get 3 combo points instead of 1) but I believe this bug is getting fixed very soon.

we tried this again today after the mage spellsteal hotfix.
all I can say is when you have a full caster group (like we had) dont stop on % just get lucky and full out nuke, you should get a lucky cast between 80% and 76% and then it's just the trick of dpsing him down under 50% dots will most likely do the trick. we had a group of full tier 7 geared people.
Blood Death Knight Tank
Boomkin
Destro Warlock
Mage
Elemental Shaman
In the first phase both the mage and boomkin did around 3 to 5k dps even managed to top out close to a 6k one time (lucky crits) but no bloodlust is used in this phase. We managed to get him down to 45% and he emerged. Killed the first wave of adds then the second came (two casters) and we popped bloodlust (elemental resto geared shaman only healed during add phase, tank (me) did not die during boss phase). Nuked the adds down and went full out on the nuke, managed to get him down from 45% to 0% with almost 20 seconds left, this is without using any exploit perfectly doable.
The only thing blizzard should fix is the "luck factor" instead of letting the boss do random casts they shud make him cast for example on that 75% and then after he finishes his cast he shud emerge.

A group of guildies and I have had about 3 hours of attempts on this total. We're a physical group, but we rarely have guild rogues on when we're going for it, so we've been having to bring a hunter.
From my experiences, I can tell you - using *just* a Snake Trap adds an additional element of RNG into the hardest achievement that is already loaded with it. As far as I can tell, the snakes get no +hit whatsoever, so Mind Numbing very often doesn't get up on the boss. Many attempts didn't even make it to a successful "phase 2" (Anub re-surfaced after a double add phase) as we'd burn hard, and sometimes even get the lucky cast at 75-85%... but he wouldn't have mind numbing up so we'd lose valuable dps time. Even if we got to phase 2, the chance of Mind Numbing going up seemed to be even lower as often he'd cast Locust Swarm upon resurfacing, killing all the snakes.
So if you're like us, and you have to bring a hunter for your cast slow - ask them to prepare a Core Hound before hand. Their debuff can stay up 100% of the time, and the miss far less than the snakes due to talents. Not only that, you can use the Snake Trap in conjunction with the Core Hound - I don't believe the two effects stack anymore, but you increase your chances of at least one slow landing.
Aside from that, it's basically just a dps burn with a lot of RNG involved. Burn him as hard as possible at the start, using trinkets and short CD personal abilities (such as Blood Fury), pray for a luck cast, and get him below 50% before you get the first add phase. You have to deal with 6 elites during this add phase; 4 guardians and 2 venomancers. Focus on the elites as Anub resurfaces as soon as they die, and the non-elites mostly die to AoE damage.
When Anub comes up, provided you successfully got the double add phase, blow all your longer cooldowns - including Bloodlust if you have it. Both phases are equally important and involve you dpsing him up to 50% of his health, but it's better to save your longer cooldowns for the second phase as using them in a failed first phase is just a waste of a long CD. In any case, he comes up, and he usually casts one spell immediately, followed by another - which is what you want. If things go your way, you'll get him to ~30% when he goes to cast the second, and from there, it's a race to get him as low as possible before his submerge animation and let any dots finish him off.
Three more things I will note:
*All debuffs on the boss get wiped at the START of the submerge animation. As soon as he starts this animation, start loading up on the DoTs again as they'll all stay on and tick underground.
*Ground-based DoTs will not stop ticking on the boss until they expire, even if submerged. For example, as a paladin, if I lay a Consecrate just before the boss becomes untargetable, the Consecrate will continue ticking until it fades. However, laying a new Consecrate after he's already submerged will do nothing.
*When he comes back up, if the first thing he casts is pound you have to be incredibly wary. He'll cast pound in the direction of his aggro target (the person highest on threat when he went under, which may not necessarily be the tank - I know with the DPS burn you have to do I've often been second when he came up), REGARDLESS OF THE WAY HIS MODEL IS FACING. If the spell he casts is a pound when he first comes up, it's advisable to strafe out to the side just in case it was targetted at you. Of course, the spell he casts when he comes up is just more RNG. If you're lucky you'll get one of the Swarms and all will be well!
Good luck. Right now, this achievement is difficult, definitely the hardest, and from what I've seen first hand it's almost as hard as 10 man Sarth w/ 3 drakes up purely for the amount of RNG involved, combined with a high level of dps. However, it's very completable, and the date of completion will forever prove you were dedicated to the Glory of the Hero!

Finally just accomplished this. Three of us are about half Naxx10 geared, the Hunter's never set foot in Naxx so he just had heroic blues and purples at most. The melee DPS had flasks and we all had a feast buff. We had Curse of Tongues and Snake Trap up on the boss, so his Pound was a 7.7-second cast time. Our final makeup was:
Protection Paladin
Beast Mastery Hunter
Destruction Warlock
Enhancement Shaman
Blood Death Knight
Some comments have asked for successful DPS numbers, so I screenshotted ours. Using Recount, my DPS meters
just
for the successful fight were:
Hunter - 2000 DPS
Death Knight - 1700 DPS
Shaman - 1700 DPS
Warlock - 1600 DPS
Paladin - 1300 DPS
I (DK) actually died right at the end from one of those twisty-bugged Pounds, but it just so happened that it was the "Lucky Two" attempt, and the rest of the group pushed hard with Heroism up - in the end, they ended up doing 10% of Anub'arak's health
after he submerged
, and he died to the Warlock's DoTs exactly as the timer hit 0 secs.
We tried holding DPS, we tried timing it, but the key for our successful achievement was that we never let up for one second during the course of the fight. We were on top of every add as soon as we could hit them, and we didn't stop DPSing Anub until he went untargetable - even melee can keep hitting him, a couple times I busted out a 5k Heart Strike while he was underground. Don't even worry about his cast bar, you DPS your heart out until you can't anymore, and then you kill anything in sight until he comes back.
One special note: We constantly reset our encounter by having the Warlock second on threat, either through damage or with a Misdirect, and then the Pally tank bubbled/HoPed himself. Anub'arak would turn around and run at the Warlock, who would use his
Demonic Circle
to teleport back behind the wall, despawning Anub'arak. We avoided probably half the repairs we might've needed otherwise over the course of our three hours of attempts.
All said and done, though, I feel this achievement badly needs a slight time extension; one slip-up or yet more bad luck and our victory would've turned into one more tragedy in a long line of attempts, not to mention that our accomplishment couldn't have been executed by a regular 5-man group with a healer.

Hi all,
Contrary to popular belief you do NOT need an entirely stacked group and you do not need to stop DPS.
You do however need 5 DPS and it does come purely down to luck when he does his casts.
The group we ran with was Prot Warrior, Spriest, Hunter, Rogue, Enh Shaman.
Essentially you need him to cast both Locust Swarm and pound around 85%, one after the other. As soon as he does that you need to burn him down as fast as you can. He HAS to burrow BELOW 50% - pushing him over with dots will not work.
Once he comes back up (You also need to kill adds quickly - you will get 2 waves of them as you skipped a phase), we popped Heroism and burnt him down from there. He came back up with 32 seconds left on the timer so you kind of need to be quick. Sadly, sub 50% also requires a lot of luck but no where near as much as whats needed for the first part.
I wouldn't attempt to pug this achievment however and I would look at getting more 'competent' players - it's not impossible but it is very difficult as it relies on RNG.
Good luck!

Just completed today in two attempts.
Setup:
Boomkin Druid (in somewhat Boomkin gear, but mainly T7 Restoration gear)
2 Warriors (Fury)
1 Rogue (Combat)
1 Shaman (Elemental)
We too did the despawn trick (I moonfired/shadowmelded to get him to despawn), and waited for him to respawn.
Shortly before he popped I gave 1 of our Fury warriors a Regrowth/Rejuv/3x Lifebloom (he was "tanking" with 2 handers), and went into Boomkin form. From there we just went all out and got him to 51% pre-burrow with Moonfire/Deep Wounds ticking down to 49%.
On the SECOND wave of adds, Heroism was popped and after getting the adds down both warriors popped recklessness and it was just a zerg until he submerged with 7000hp. Again, Moonfire/Deep Wounds finished it.

In the next patch this will be getting nerfed to 4 minutes, at 4 minutes, will any special 'tactics' be required, or will simply bringing enough DPS to kill the small spiders quickly be enough to beat the timer? (Havn't attempted this at all yet)

I'd be very surprised if this achievement required anything more than high dps from a 3 dps, 1 tank and 1 healer team if it does indeed get reduced to 4 minutes. The add phases combined would take about 2m30s, and the surface phase certainly does not take 1m30s.

Just did this with:
DK Unholy Tank (Me)
Retri Paladin
Fury Warrior
Warlock
Hunter
Started off by letting the hunter agro, feign death and then plant a snake trap while everyone got into position. 5 seconds before he respawned (respawn time is 30 seconds) I cast DnD and HoW. As soon as he spawns warlock uses curse of toungues and trap activates, bringing his casting time of pound and locust swarm to about 7 - 8 seconds. He cast pound at about 80% hp, after which we burned him down to 48%.
Then we fought 3 waves of adds and once again got a snake trap up which we all stood on top of (just to make sure Anub'arak activated it). We then started to burn him down again, this time we got a lucky locust swarm at 26%, after which we were able to nuke him down.
Really fun achievement, but way too hard to do.

Ok , we did it, just wanted to do it pre-nerf
It's not undoable as it seems, the key point is stacking TWO casting-time debuffs:
we did it with
Snake Trap
and
Mind Numbing Poison
.
Tried to do it another time with
Slow
and failed miserably as Anub'arak is immune.
our first setup was:
tankadin
furywarr
rogue
bmhunter
enhshaman
Took a bit of luck with the trap (few times he began to cast before the snake poisons were applied or the numbing-snake failed during 2nd phase).
Should be affected by tongue but actually i really don't know if it stacks with either mind numbing or the trap.

We just did this last night. We had:
Prot Warrior
Warlock
Ret. Paladin
Rogue
Moonkin
We found the best way for our setup was to go all out dps from the beginning and especially through the add phase. Even with a crappy cast at 85% it was possible to burn him into the low to mid 50% range (or better with lucky crits.) The key to getting to the second phase if you didn't get a good cast or great RNG on dps was DOTs. Just when he starts to burrow he clears DOTs, but you have a very slim window to reapply a few. You can easily burn him 7% underground to push him. We actually killed him 2 seconds after he burrowed to get the kill. I don't suggest this, and BL is incredibly helpful, but it is doable. This makes burning through the add phase as fast as possible incredibly important.
It took us quite a bit of time (and tons of patience) to get the good casts, but it is worth it. Good luck!

We did it today with Meleeshaman,Rogue,Feraldruid (Cittyskill & gear),Defwarri & Holypriest (Specced Shadow)
Its definitely Luck if he casts something -.-
One thing i have to add:
DON'T burst him down under 50 % in Phase 1, and don't under 25 % in Phase 2.
If he comes back you have to pray to god, that he'll cast...
At least, we needed a lot lot lot of tries.
(Dunno how this is possible without melees....)

You do not need luck for this achievement.
Strat revealed here:

After three previous nights of attempts (about 1 to 2 hours each night), we already understood how luck based this achievement was when doing the "burn and hope for a good cast" strat.
On our actual kill, we saw just how much a bit of good luck absolutely trivializes it.
We got Anub to about 30% after the first surface fade (after DoTs had ran their course), thanks to both Lava Breath and Mind Numbing Poison from our hunter both going up - this increases not only his cast times to around 7-8 secs, but also increases the duration of his submerge animation quite significantly.
When he came back up, we decided to go all out instead of waiting for a cast, and hope that we got one immediately when he came up. We did - but not only that, when he got to 13% (we had both Lava Breath and Mind Numbing up again so we would have still gotten the kill), he actually proceeded to cast another spell instead of submerging - at that point the achievement was in the bag.
I don't think it was a bug, it seems that if he casts a certain spell upon resurfacing (I think it was carrion swarm, then locust swarm), he will immediately follow it up with the second spell in the 'chain'. Of course, it could have just been a bug. But as I said, with some good luck this achievement becomes so much easier. ^^

Here is the strategy linked above (and here):
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=13832555034&sid=1
I'm sure many of you have despawned the boss in order to get closer, thus staring DPS faster (at least with melee). Some may have even tried getting behind him and coming in from the back just to get that little extra bit of DPS before he casts. What I realized when despawning him for the 1000th time was that when Anub walked over to me (I pulled from outside the arena) he didn't cast, ever.
So, the light in the attic came on and I asked our Hunter (who was not using Snake trap on any attempt btw) to pull the boss from where I normally pulled (in front of boss, outside of the arena). I had walked around behind the boss (even as a Tauren, if you hug the ledge you won't pull and you can get behind) to get in position. I had the Hunter pull, when the boss got close to him, I Dark Command (Taunt). Anub turned around and walked towards me... then the Hunter Distracting Shot to pull the boss back to him. After Anub took a couple steps back towards the Hunter, I Death Gripped (doesn't yank the boss closer, but forces attack for 3 seconds).
During this entire time, Anub did not cast anything.
So, then we reset the boss and we formulated a strategy. The entire group (except myself) would stand in front of the boss (right inside of where the arena wall comes up). I would walk behind. The Hunter would MD our Mage, and we could start a countdown. At anywhere from 3-1 seconds, our casters would begin DPS, and the MD would hit to the Mage (only reason we did Mage is because he has a tendency to pull aggro anyway, and this is a key facet of our strategy for later).
Anub ran to the front area, and I immediately Taunted him back. He turned and walked to me... full DPS going on the boss the entire time. The Hunter Disrtacting Shot to pull back to himself, and Anub turned around and ran towards the group... full DPS again, aside from me doing absolutely nothing in the back area. After Anub took a few steps towards the group, I gripped to cause him to attack me for 3 seconds. At this point the boss was around 76-82% health (numbers reflect a couple different attempts while we solidified this strategy). I simply walked towards the boss, and he IMMEDIATELY began casting (doesn't matter if it is Pound or Swarm). This is a 5.1 second cast (with COT) and we easily burned through about 30% health in this time, often times taking the boss to 45-47% as he submerges.
This is with no Bloodlust and no Trinkets or Cooldowns except one Bestial from the Hunter (who has a second one for the second phase anyway).
We attacked the adds as normal, wave 1 spawning 2 melee, wave 2 spawning 2 melee 2 casters.
Now, here's where the Mage aggro comes into play:
When Anub resurfaces, he is really really mad at the Mage. I stand to the side (all the way left if facing the boss) and the remaining group stands in the front where they started. Anub comes up and runs to the Mage as I run behind the boss and immediately taunt. The cycle continues until the boss is sub 30% (even 35% is ok at this point if you bring Bloodlust or you have massive cooldowns, none of which we had available). The boss begins to cast, and you burn him down as you did in the first phase.
This technique is easily repeatable, and is most likely the closest "true method" to killing this boss. There is zero luck involved in this strategy, as you can basically "force" Anub to cast when YOU are ready to DPS him down... not when he just randomly decides to cast.
Here was our group makeup:
DK Tank (Suspect)
Moonkin (Kmap)
Hunter (Killtackular)
Lock (Meatskull)
Mage (Daskovacs)
We had 1 slow, and no Bloodlust / Heroism. We did not pop any trinkets for the first phase because we forced the cast below 80% every time.
Obviously, as you can see, we used no healer, but this is simply because we had been trying the "brute force / luck" method all night, and once we realized our new strategy, we didn't have him respec back to healing. The Hunter's DPS was low because he had to stop his rotation in order to Taunt, and we know for a fact that this method can be used with a 3 DPS / 1 Heal / 1 Tank group makeup.
Here are some tips using this method (and workarounds):
DK Tank preferred (2 taunts is good - not required: see below)
Shaman (Bloodlust / Heroism is good for second phase)
1 of any type of cast slow (CoT, Mind Numbing, Hunter Trap)
Taunt #2 (doesn't matter what, as long as it is ranged).
As you can see, this clearly opens up the group makeup further than what was initially expected.
Now, if you do not have access to a DK tank (or DPS who can hit Frost Presence for adds phase) then you can adjust the strategy to have everyone switch positions (group is behind Anub, tank is in front) and the tank pulls, then the group behind lights up the boss and gains aggro, then you taunt back etc. This also works fine (we tested it a number of ways).
The reason I recommend a Shaman is for the second phase. This makes burning through the last 30% elementary with any group makeup. Again, we did NOT have a Shaman, I am simply recommending it for those that have access. Elemental would be very strong here, though Resto is very good as well. The additional DPS that totems (and Fire Elemental) bring overall is just very appreciated.
Also, we brought full consumables and flasks... however, later in the evening (still bashing our heads against the wall doing the "luck" method) we stopped using them. You do not need any consumables if your DPS is sufficient. If it is a little bit low, or you are definitely going to try the 3 DPS and 1 Healer (assuming your healer DPS's during the Pound Phase), then I'd definitely consider any boost you can get.
A Hunter is handy due to Distracting Shot, and overloading your top aggro-puller with even more aggro (for the phase 2 surfacing). Again, not required, as this player will most likely have top aggro anyway, seeing as the tank does almost nothing except during the adds phase, and a pitiful amount of damage during the "burn" phase (80%-49%, 30%-0%).
A Warlock is also recommended for a couple of reasons. CoT (or some type of casting-slow) is very helpful and may even be required at this point. In addition, you CAN cast dots on the boss after he "wipes" them, but before he submerges. We've often seen him submerge at 53 only to come up at 45% when everyone applied their dots perfectly. You generally have enough time to get about 2 on him.
I hope that this post is helpful to all of the people that have tried this achievement over and over again only to give up. Our group and guild is very proud to have seen it done after all of the "fixes" but before the upcoming "nerf " (increased time). We believe that we accomplished this goal using a legitimate strategy at the absolute hardest time to do it: no Mage spellsteal crit buff, no double and triple stacking slows (for 7-9 second cast times), no gripping the boss from underground (yes, it used to work!).
We almost won it with luck / brute force numerous times, but it is by luck that we ultimately learned to do it without the RNG.
Congratulations to all that have done the achievement using whatever method that worked, and I hope our method can save people 100's if not 1000's of gold in respecs, repairs, and consumables (our bills were insane).

Elemental Shaman (me)
Destro Warlock
Feral Druid
Fire Mage
Fire Mage
We were all geared in 10/25 man Naxx gear and T7 except for the Feral Druid who was out Tank. Me ebing the ele shaman, dps'd in all resto gear, since I had to respec for the fight to tack on more dps to the group. We had everyone that could, precast their biggest cast on Anub'arak, and then the Tank would charge in to grab aggro. Once we engaged, we nuked him to
56%
. with dots still ticking after he burrowed, bringing him to
48%
. We got 3 waves of adds, so we all grouped up and burned em down as they come through the web-wall. On the last add, I would burn Heroism and we went off on em. We got a lucky
29%
cast and that was it, we took him to
6%
with 13 seconds left, and he died underground, giving us the achievement with 7 seconds left.
Good luck with this one, it's tough, but it's still doable.

We figured out a nifty little bug, Snake traps from hunters stack with mind numbing, so if u happen to get luck with the snake poison type we were getting like 10 second cast times, we 3 shot it, after wiping 5 hours the night before. Just despawn him, wait 25 seconds, then blow all ur CD except BL and wait 5 sec him to spawn, snake trap must be allready beneath him, and start to DPS ^) , when after 2 waves of adds, make ur tank wait him near the wall so that when he get up, he will go up to the tank and dont cast anything before reach tank, when he meet the tank he will start casting, so second fase is no luck based i think. Haven't completed the achievement yet, but have something useful to add for those wanting to try this pre 3.0.8 when the time will be increased.
This is mainly for DK's, or if you plan on having a DK in your party as well as a Warlock for summons. I'm sure everyone knows the mage trick, of spellstealing from the mobs in Storm Peaks for the DPS buff, then being summoned to the boss to start off the nuking. There is also a similar method of DPS increase for DK's that most people are currently unaware of.
First, clear the instance up to Anub, would be useful to 4-man it without your DK, so he can be doing his part of this trick while you clear. Have the Warlock ready to summon after getting to Anub. Your DK needs to hit Molten Core and walk past mobs/clear his way to Lucifron. We all know Lucifron's
debuff
that increases casting cost by 100% for all spells and abilities. Seems the way this old debuff affects the new Deathknight Rune and RP system is severely flawed and can actually become a very useful short-duration DPS buff, especially for Unholy specs with Scourge Strike. It basically renders your RP useless, so no abilities that rely on RP will be able to be used while the debuff is active, but it also makes rune regeneration instantaneous... meaning that as soon as you burn a rune for an ability, it becomes active and ready to use again instantly. Now your 'lock needs to summon the DK.
While using the debuff, swap to Unholy Presence for the .5sec global CD, and you will be able to apply your 2 diseases and spam Scourge Strike repeatedly for no cost for the entire duration of the Anub fight.

Well, we did it today with aff lock, BM hunter, enh shaman, blood DK & prot warrior (me) , we succeded in our 2nd try with getting really lucky with casting times (he casted pound first time on 77% , after he finished his cast and burrowed he was on 45% ), after he reemerged we poped BL and simply killed him with 32 seconds left, he started casting pound on 30-31% or so , it was really walk in the park.
But, day before we spent around 3 hours wiping because rng just wasn't on our side, so what u need for this achivment is basicly 4 dps setup, ton of luck and good group of friends that is willing to spend couple of hours on the boss
We were all flasked, used CoT & snake trap for really LONG cast time and nuked the damn bastard
GL with this stupid achivment if u decide to give it a shot before nerf, because luck is only thing u will need here :)

Prot warrior, BM hunter (me), BM hunter, Demo/destro lock and holy pala (specced ret for the last tries altho I don't think it would have mattered a lot, he could have done the same amount of dps as holy). I am certain that this could be done with our pala only healing as well, because we had so high dps, but it's wasn't really needed with healstones and Gift of the Naruu on him.
Misdirect boss to warrior while he and the 3 others were standing outside the ring. The hunters ran in and placed snake-traps at boss spawn, boss would despawn, all ran into the ring and waited, ready for going all out.
Boss spawns, kills a snake, warrior takes over and from there it is just going all out with dps. With 2 BM/readiness hunters decked mostly in full 25-man gear his HP went down amazingly fast. Now from here on out, using this tactict it's a bit luck based with the casts, but we got a "good" one 3rd try or so, and he was just above 40% (didn't see exact) when going under first time. Refreshing dots right before he dives to get some extra %.
Nuke adds that spawns as fast as one can, but don't use cooldowns unless it is really needed here. Save those for when boss is back up again.
Boss back up after adds down, I placed a new snake-trap under him, hunters blew their 2nd cooldown cycle (BM/Rapid Fire) and he went down just as he dived under the 2nd time.
None of us did check the timer, but I am pretty sure we had plenty of time left on it, seeing we individually did way more dps than other people have posted here.
All flasked and food buffed just to be sure, personally I popped a manapot as well on the kill.
Warlock had CoT on boss at all times, while 2 snake traps took care of mind numbing beeing up.
Many have stated this beeing the hardest achievement of them all, but imo it is not, I would say that once you have the required DPS, it's a matter of getting lucky with the timing of his casts. So if you do a few tries and it all seems to be impossible, your next try might actually be the kill. Keep trying, and I am sure you will make it eventually =)

Hello out there.
The past days I've been trying to get this achievement, and I must say it is clearly the hardest achievement,.
As alot of other people has written it's all about nuking and hoping that he'll cast pound / locust swarm at around 75% and 25%. We also tried this, but we never got lucky, so we decided to do as following.
Our setup was
- Feral druid tank (best dps tank, and can easily keep alive without being dependent on too much heal)
- Elemental Shaman (Bloodlust ftw, and can heal in hard times)
- Survival Hunter (Can use he's snaketrap to slow Anub's castttime.
- Destruction Warlock (Can use CoT to slow Anub's casttime)
- Frostfirebolt Mage (Can pwn the crap out of the dmgmeter)
With a dps group as heavy as ours (around 4k dps atleast from the 4 dpsers, and 3k from the feral tank (me)) We we're able to control the damage.
We made the following rules
If he casts between 100% and 86% - 49% and 36% we wait until he makes a new cast.
What we did was that we made the mage and the warlock precast soulfire + pyroblast, and then nuked the crap out of him. He then casted a pound at 89% and we decided to dmg him to 80% and let the dots do the rest. After he completed his Pound he casted Locust swarm at around 77% and then we nuked him to 42% and he went under.
We picked up the adds, and dmged them as quick as possible (remember the you need to handle 3 waves now - this might require a bit healing).
After killing the last add, the hunter placed a new snake trap at Anubs spawn place, while the ele shammie popped Bloodlust (heroism for the allies) and we nuked him. Right as he came up he started casting pound (he did this at all out tries - dno if he does this no matter what). We then damaged him to 30% and waited him to finish off his pound, and he started casting locust swarm. This was our call to nuke complety, and we got him down right as he started to dig down.
If you're using this method where you control your damage be sure to have high dps with you, and watch the timer - we did this with 1 sec left, because of the waiting on him to cast again, but it is surely possible.
As written by everyone else we used flasks, foodbuffs, unending breath o_O etc.

Two casts slows are not necessary.
Just did it with :
Feral Druid
Afflic/Dem Lock
ELe Shaman
Boomkin
Frostfire Mage
The achievement revolves around good luck. Waiting for a cast impedes your dps, and u have to b willing to spend a lot of time, repeatedly attempting the same seemingly impossible task
I agree that 4 minutes is way too long, even 3 seems easily doable. Im glad that achievements are dated, so that whiners with there mount cant link the achievement pre-patch.
My best advice would be to stick at it, and persist. took us about 3 hours, with 5-6 attempts below 4%
Getting the tank to taunt across the room also helps a lot, but is not essential. Just make sure everyone in the group knows wat they are doing.
Good luck especially.

Ahh, finally did this!
Shadow Priest (Me)
Feral Druid (tank) in half DPS gear
Enhancement Shaman
BM Hunter x 2
We figured out something very useful to us. The snakes in Sholazar have a poison spit cast slow. We went in one night with the hunter having a 77 snake and snake trap thus creating 7 second casts. Then that hunter burned out after not accomplishing the achievement and I found a new one. He was nice enough to level a snake to 80 and we went back in. Go figure, the slows didn't stack this time and we got max 5 sec cast times. So we went back, I begged the former hunter to come back, and he did. It seems the max rank poison spit doesn't stack with Snake Trap but the lower rank DOES.
We tried many different methods, including the juggling him back and forth across the arena. In the end, the only successful method was full out burn. What seems to work best is getting him sub-50% on the very first cast. Then killing his p2 adds. As soon as he comes up he tends to casts immediately. Then we killed him on the 2nd cast.
And they say priests can't do this. I didn't give up! Good luck to all of you!

Setup:
Prot paladin (Holydk)
Combat rogue (me)
BM hunter (Hobow)
Frostfire mage (Glimpse)
Boomkin (Heajlo)
3h of wiping because we wanted to get this before the nerf, and in the end we killed him.
He went underground with 1% hp left on the 2nd dive, and the mages and the hunters dots finished him off with 10 seconds left on the timer. 13k average dps on the group for 100%->48%
At the start we thought it wouldn't happen, cause we got a pound cast @ 88% and almost stopped there but luckily at 77% he started casting locust swarm, and we just brought him down to under 50% the second he went underground.
Think the only person who popped cooldowns at the 1st 77%-48% phase was the hunter, cause he could reset them, the rest of us just waited with cooldowns until 32% when he started to cast pound and then just zerged him to death.

My group did this tonight after about 2 hours worth of attempts.
1x Prot Warrior
2x Enchancement Shaman
1x Moonkin (respecced from Resto)
1x Destr Lock
It is pretty much based on luck, but something I found to be useful was that he tends to do 2x castings before he burrows. I decided to wait on casting curse of tongues till he does his first casting that way there was a good chance at getting a second cast which will be increased. This seemed to work well as he casts the 2nd ability later and it is prolonged.
Good luck to all that do this before the patch hits.

Our compo was :
Holy Priest (me)
BM Hunt
Enh Shamy

I didn't respec shadow, but the tank was spec fury. It's another way to have a group with enough dps and a healer.
With the rogue poison and the hunter's snakes, the cast were slow enough to do 80%->50% without any problem.
We used Heroism at the end of the adds, and burned him from 40% to 5%, the dots killed him ~5sec before the end of the timer.

Did it today.
Setup:
Mage(frostfire)
Shaman(elemental)
Warrior(Prot)
Hunter(BM no readiness I think)
Warlock(Affliction)
We had hunter shoot boss and FD to reset him. Run up to where he spawns to drop a snake trap. Soon as spawns put CoT on him. Nuke Nuke Nuke. We pretty much dps him down to ~55% with one cast. If your lucky after pound he will cast locust swarm right after to give you more time. We had this happen an earlier attempt got him to 39%.
1st dive you get 2 spiders from first dive and the 4 from 2nd dive all at once. When we on last 2 spiders which are casters. We popped heroism. which was ~46 secs left on timer. Put a snake trap down before he pops back up and burn(dont forget CoT). As long as he casts one thing you will get it. If he cast back two things then you are golden.

Simple Guide for Gotta Go!
Tip 1: Bring a Hunter.
The Hunter class makes this achievement
that much easier
, and not because of the crazy DPS from the Beast Mastery tree.
At the start of the encounter, the Hunter shoots the boss and immediately feigns. This despawns the boss and allows the Hunter to properly place a snake trap for Mind-Numbing Poison and have DPS positioned properly.
Sure, this isn't needed but every bit helps. The real reason you want a Hunter? If you get unlucky with the casts,
the Hunter can reset the boss fight
.
Simply wait for spikes to appear underneath the group and have the Hunter stand on top of them. In mid air he can disengage out of the webbed area. When the boss reappears the Hunter can then distracting shot the boss and kite him up the stairs, resetting the encounter.
Rinse and repeat while praying for a lucky cast.
Tip 2: "The essentials" should be used.
And that would be a Warlock's Curse of Tongues and a Rogue's Mind-Numbing Poison. With a Shaman's Bloodlust after his first burrow you should have him down with plenty of time to spare.
Tip 3: Don't worry about "fully buffed".
Did this today with minimal buffs. Simply had Gift of the Wild, Flask of Endless Rage, and a food buff as a Hunter. The group consisted of a Rogue, Warlock, (elemental) Shaman, (feral) Druid and myself as Beast Mastery. Gear doesn't need to be best in slot and I didn't have the best enchants I could obtain. The Potion of Speed I popped didn't really matter since I was "haste capped" in my spec and I also forgot to use my Saronite Razorheads.
Hope this helped! If it did, please give it a

We read through most of the comments here and on other websites, and after managed to finally do this a few days ago, i can tell you the major factor in this is just luck.
If you get a lucky cast at 76-80%, your good to go, any more and its doubtful.
Group was
Prot Warrior (tank)
Affliction Warlock
Frostfire Mage
Blood DK
Ele Shaman (offhealed during adds)
I wouldnt recommend doing with this without bloodlust, as you would need yet another insanely nice timed cast for the 50 - 0% burn. BL gives room for error and bad casts.
We wiped over and over and eventually got him to 50% with naxx 25 geared players. Adds phase was cake, and the last phase we had BL / pets / CDs and managed to kill him with two seconds remaining.
GL to anyone attempting this pre-nerf, its incredibly frustrating :P

Finally accomplished this achievement.
Group was -
Prot Warrior
Moonkin
Resto Shaman (Elemental Spec)
2xBM Hunter w/ 1 Core Hound
The simple answer for us was to just blow him up and hope for a little luck. We got it after about 6 attempts with this group make up. Got a Pound at 78% (7.2 sec cast time) which we then got him down to 45%, blew lust once the add waves started. He came up and we continued to all out DPS. He Locus Swarmed at 30%, burned him to 1% before he submerged a second time and he died underground with 0 secs to spare.

I've successfully completed this achievement with following comp:
tg warrior
enh shammy
prot paly
fire dest lock
bm hunter
Basically what you're looking for is those perfect casts, we personally had a 7.7 second cast at 77-78% which allotted us time to dps him down to about 50%, then another 15% after he physically burrowed (an extra 2-3s of dps time, in which you need to retarget him), took care of the 3 waves of adds, finally dpsed him to about 30% and waited for him to cast another long cast, it was a 7.7 second pound, got him to 3% during the cast and killed him before he made it under for the second burrow. We used Snake trap and curse and tongues to slow the pound cast however; I must note that snake trap requires a bit of luck given that it doesn't fully stack and proc mind numb, with both debuffs on the boss it slows pound to 7.7 and locusts to 7.2 casts. For all those making an attempt at this achievement just keep at it with some luck and the proper strategy you'll eventually get it.

Just completed this with a caster group
- Unholy DK tank
- Fire Mage
- Fire Mage
- Demonology Warlock
- Elemental Shaman
Strat: We found our DPS was was too high and he was finishing his first cast and then burrowing straight away. To prevent this we DPS'd very slowly so he did his first cast while he was still above 90% , and then resumed normal DPS after he had started casting. Doing this we managed to get him to cast a second time at about 76% on two consecutive attempts, and were able to burst him down to below 50%
Also, our lock didn't put tounges up until after the first cast was over, again because we were DPSing him too fast and he wasn't getting the second cast off.
During adds I healed everyone up, bloodlust wasn't up during our kill attempt but if it was it would have been used when the caster adds came down.
Second phase we did the same thing, we didn't DPS too hard so we could catch the cast at 33%, we got it and were able to kill him.
Our groups gear is almost completely from heroics, a few of us had a few 10 man Naxx pieces, one mage did have almost full 25 man gear however. Just trying to show people this achievements not only for people in raiding guilds

Completed this finally, after nights and nights of frustrating attempts.
1. I would recommend doing this achievement after the patch, which will nerf it to 4 minutes instead of 2 (the patch is probably coming next Tuesday). If you really want to achieve this now, then be prepared for many wipes. Bring flasks/food buffs/repair gold/haste potions/whatever else you can bring to maximize your DPS.
2. You absolutely need a class that has a slowing effect. Either a Warlock or a Rogue works best, you can also bring a Hunter as the snake trap "Mind-numbing Poison" stacks with Curse of Tounges and the same poison from the rogue. However, the Hunter snake trap includes another element of RNG, as the mind-numbing poison often doesn't go on.
3.
THIS IS POSSIBLE WITH A CASTER GROUP! BUT REQUIRES MUCH MORE DEPENDENCE ON ANUB'ARAK'S "LUCKY CASTS"
We did this with a caster group, and I can attest to the fact that this is MUCH more difficult with a caster group than a melee group, simply because it's harder to control the amount of DPS you put on the boss and you can't really effectively "wait" for the lucky casts like you can with a melee one. You just have to be damn lucky.
The group we had:
Unholy DK Tank (in half tank gear/half DPS gear, Me)
Frostfire Mage (highest DPS)
Elemental Shaman (high DPS)
Elemental Shaman (high DPS)
Destruction Warlock (high DPS, Curse of Tounges)
All of us are in Naxx 25 gear+
All of us are flasked and food buffed before each pull
4. To start, we had our mage pull the boss away so he would reset, and we all walked in and waited for the spawn. I would recommend resetting him any way you can, so you can add those 1-2 seconds of DPS in.
5. On the particular attempt that we got him down, he got a lucky cast with a Locust Swarm somewhere around 78%. We burned him during his cast and got him to 40% before he burrowed. Make sure as he starts to burrow that you get as many DOTs on as you can, he take around 5-10% more health off while submerged simple because of DOTs.
6. I summoned Army of the Dead during the "trash" phase, killed the 4 melee mobs and the 2 caster mobs. Everyone was individual responsible for staying off the impales, one of the elemental shamans helped heal during the phase.
7. When he came back up, we reapplied CoT, popped bloodlust, both fire elemental totems, garygole, went ALL out DPS. This is perhaps the most frustrating part, as he usually just casts an Pound right after he comes up and then burrows with ~15% health left. This time, however, we were lucky. He used pound and then RIGHT after (with no delay), casted a Locust Swarm at around 27%. Just as a bit of advice, I would recommend the tank taunting RIGHT after Anub'arak resurfaces, the Pound is buggy and might hit a DPS if you don't taunt right away.
8. As I said, with a caster group you need to rely on a lot more luck than a melee group. We worked on this for literally days, and on this particular day that we were doing, we were at our 3rd hour and ready to call it for the day. Our DPS was fine, our luck was not.
9. Anub'Arak:
"Eternal Agony AWAITS YOU!"
(Anub'Arak's quote when aggroing)
After hearing him say that for about the 100th time, I really wanted to punch him in the ovaries. But the kill sound he made and the ding of two achievements being completed ("Gotta Go" and "Glory of the Hero") made it all worthwhile :)
10. Good Luck!

I totally have to agree with Snitsky that this encounter isnt all about dps but also controlling it. We did him 6 hours today, trying every strategy we read here.
Our setup was:
Shadow Priest
Frostfire Mage
Desto Warlock
Elemental Shaman(in resto gear)
Prot Warrior.
All in Naxx25 gear and With all consumables, speed potions up.
We managed to pull him down to %6 once, but could not kill him. Since we were full caster party we had alot of down time in our dps while waiting for his casts.
What I would suggest for similar group and gear setups:
1) If he does his 1st cast above %90, hold your dps to wait 3 seconds, blow everything on him and pray for a second cast around %76-%80.
2) If he does his 1st cast above %85, hold your dps to wait 2 seconds and blow everything on him and pray for a second cast around %76-%80.
3) If he does his 1st cast between %76-%80 then continue dps, you had been extremely lucky or you have extremely good dps.
Nuking him blindy from the start will not work most of the time unless you manage to get his cast at %80 or below %80 which is better.
4) He wont cast anything below %75. Also there is no guarantee that he'll do a second cast above %75, its just random.
5) Same stuff below %50 however with BL this time.
Another important thing is you can reset this encounter easily with a warlock, having him teleport behind the web wall and over-aggro the boss and tank holding his tps.
This will save you alot of time and consumables.
Big congratulations to those who finished this achievement before the nerf and big good luck to those who want to.. before the nerf(QQ).

Did this on January 13th with:
Protection Paladin tank
Frost Death Knight (2H)
Unholy Death Knight
Retribution Paladin
Destruction Warlock
Mostly in Naxx 25 gear.
I would just like to make an important point that I have not seen in any of the comments so far:
You cannot skip adds phases 1 and 2.
If you burn him from 76% to below 50%,
adds phase 1 will spawn, and then adds phase 2 will spawn, before he comes back up.
This means that burning him below 50% before the firsts submerge barely saves you any time at all; you only save the couple of seconds it takes for him to re-emerge and be brought down to 50%.
From this observation, a few conclusions can be made:
It is
not
necessary to take him from 76% to 49% in order to do this achievement. Indeed, on my group's kill attempt, we only got him to 60% before the first submerge, and 35% before the second.
It
is
necessary to take him from 26% to 0% in order to do this achievement. This allows you to completely skip the 3rd adds phase, which is an excruciatingly long phase. I feel pretty confident in saying that no group has ever completed this achievement and also done the 3rd adds phase.
If you take him from 51% to 24%, you will cause both adds phases 2 and 3 to spawn, which will assuredly waste too much time for the achievement to be possible.
Do not burn him from 51% to 24%.
All in all, I would say this achievement was not as difficult as I was lead to believe; certainly, it is difficult, but it's definitely still doable. If you've been putting off this achievement under the belief that it is impossible at the moment, just grab the heaviest dpsers you can find and give it a shot! You may be surprised to find that is attainable for you after all.

First of all I wanted to thank everyone for the tips they have posted, all in all it helped a lot to keep attempts under 2 hours.
I followed peteyd's great idea of having a hunter attack the boss feign to make sure the dps was all set up and he could place a snake trap.
I don't know if it was having the BM hunter but we added him on our last 3 attempts and we did it on our 3rd with ATLEAST 5 seconds more dps we could have put in.
For those who are struggling on a strat just all out DPS is MOST important, if you don't get the cast time right you don't get it and just die. How we went about our dps was pop everything off the bat WITHOUT BLOODLUST. If you don't get the right cast time of Pound or Locus Swarm then just wipe it without having to wait for the 10 minutes on Bloodlust. If you get luck at the first attempt and get him under 50% then pop the bloodlust for the LAST add you need to kill and you should be money.
Our group comp:
Myself (Prot warrior w/ deep wounds)
BM Hunter - amazing dps
Fury warrior - amazing DPS (Titains Grip)
Mutilate Rogue - great but not amazing dps
Enhance Shaman - Our healer respec'd, not great dps but there for totems and such

Brute forced our way into this achievement tonight. Pretty much just have to get lucky on his casts and have lots of DPS.
Used
Shadow Priest
Ench Shaman
Unholy DK
Rogue
Prot Warrior
We reset him and just blasted him using minor cooldowns. 1 in 3 times if we'd get him to sub 50%.
Had the shaman pop lust when the 2 Venomancers show up. Wait to pop cooldowns till he comes up. Had two back to back casts when he reemerged and he was dead. Took 1min 32seconds.
Good luck to anyone trying this prepatch. Bring lots of consumables and be ready to wait to get lucky.

Did it yesterday with some of my guildmates. We took caster group:
*Feral Druid (except him, need a tank tho':)
*Fire Mage
*Destro Lock
*Boomkin (respecced from resto specially for this achievement)
*Elemental Shaman (me)
The casters pulled the boss simultaneously, the druid taunted Anub'arak off from us. Then we made full nuke to him, I used my troll racial ability (Berserk). During the casts we burned him down to 47%. He burrowed, adds arrived. At venomancers, I used my haste potion to burn them down quickly. After the Venomancers death, I popped Bloodlust, and we nuked him down to the hell. We killed him in 1 min 49 sec. We had a bit lucky at the end, he burrowed 2nd time, but the DoT's killed him.
Here's a vid about it:

Our Key's to this Achievement:
* Rouge for Mind-Numbing Poison
* Max DPS because holding back DPS is even more Random
* Despawn the Boss to get optimal Position
* After the Tank grabs Aggro step a little bit back to move the Boss (so he must move and can't cast an Spell / the first Spell is more likely to start at 80%)
* Luck at 25% because he did 3 casts in a Row.

A word of advice: dont wait for him to cast at 76-56. Burn him as hard as you can at every try, else you cant do it when you get a lucky cast. We realized this when wasted 2 77% casts, cuz we were pessimistic and didnt burn our CDs.
Another tip: He is targettable when he casts burrow, and you can re-dot/dmg him during the cast /but you lose target when he's starting to cast, TAB is your friend/ Debuffs go from him when he CASTS, not when he BURROWS, so you can do ~10k dmg to him when he's underground.
Our setup was: Enhancement shammy, muti rogue, fury warr, BM hunter and feral druid /me/ I easily managed the boss phase w/o heal by moving out of pound when he starts casting, he does negligible dmg if you can avoid pound. Shammy healed during add phase. When he started casting burrow we retargeted him, mangle, rupture, deep wounds /if you are lucky/ and flame shock/serpent sting/pet rake. Bloodlust helped a lot too.
Advice for feral druids: save your mangle when he's about to burrow, because cant shift fast enough to cat and mangle, so bear mangle needed for amplifying the bleeds.

so it is possible to do it with a healer so i have no idea what you guys are whining about, If you cant heal a dps on this fight your gear is to low thus resulting on you not being able to get this.
Just need to work around the 4 dps thing never says you need a tank just 4 dps.

Rogue
Moonkin Druid (Heals)
Blood DK (Tank)
Had been trying this for about a month prior w/ tons of different group comps, this one was by far the best. Tons of dots, and damage buffs
Started out w/ a full burn, DK put hysteria on Hunter and Rogue MD'd the hunter for extra damage for the first burn. Had him down to about 45% before he went untargettable. It was a heart pounder at the end as he burrowed at 5%, but he ended up dieing underground w/ about 3 seconds left

The achievement is somewhat broken on live at the moment, it's still showing as 2 minutes on the achievement page.
But...
The actual time to complete this achievement has been changed from 2 minutes to 4 minutes as of patch 3.0.8. There is currently a bug though and the text in the achievement window still shows 2 minutes. This will be corrected in a future patch.

Got it 1/19 a few hours before patch. Really wanted to get it done pre-nerf, so I'm pleased with that.
Two 0/41/30 locks, ele sham, Retadin, Unholy DK. Pretty much full 10/25 gear took us about an hour and a half. Used the burn strat + CoT. Finally got good casts + DoT applications (on submerge) and took him down.
I imagine this will be heaps easier after today. Shame going from what was easily the most difficult achievement to attain to a pretty "meh" one.

Not that it matters anymore because it was nerfed.
Rogue's mind numbing poison stacks with the Hunter's snake trap mind numbing poison from one of the snakes.
It makes his casts about 9-10 seconds long.
It still requires some sort of luck, but really only took my group 3 attempts.

Got it this morning in 3.0.8. Just confirming what was posted above - UI shows 2 minutes, but if you enable tracking the timer starts counting down from 4 minutes.
评论来自
153761
The 4 minute timer now makes this a scrub achievement, painfully easy to accomplish without knowing it.
Its a shame they nerfed it, it wasn't particularly hard for a group that knew what to do.
评论来自
darknesscalls
Indeed, this achievement is no longer an achievement, most groups will easily complete in on their first Heroic AN run.
Now, I was all for nerfing the 2 minute timer. It took my group days to complete it, the amount of luck and DPS needed was insane. But instead of reducing the time it takes to kill the boss, they could've changed the achievement completely to something INSTEAD of it being on a timer. It's silly for this achievement to be on a timer at all considering Anub'arak's Burrow occurs at a certain % of health and the adds coming out are based on a timer. Typical of Blizzard to make the quick fix, ah well.
评论来自
312201
Anub'arak has 205,640 - 512,278.
So around 512,278 in heroic. That makes 128,069 HP for your DPS and tank (assuming your healer has no mana/time to do additional damage to him).
For two minutes that makes 1067 DPS for the tank and the DPS.
For four minutes that makes 533 DPS for the tank and the DPS.
Now the tricky thing of course is that he won't be standing there to be DPSet all the time.
His diving phases make him unDPSable for a time.
So those numbers are not really correct.
I congratulate everyone doing this before the nerf.
Two minutes made this achivement hard for certain speccs or classes.
However from the heroic achivments this most likely was the only one who deserved being called that way.
Four minutes is a little too much. Changing it to three minutes would have made it a lot more doable, but still challenging.

You can ignore all the posts that were made during 3.0.3. With the timer now at 4 minutes this achievement is not very hard at all. We did it normal (no waiting till he starts pound and dpsing him through) If you just kill the adds fast you can get the achievements even with him submerging every time.
I'm assuming this was downranked by people who are terribad and can't get this achievement even with the huge nerf.
