This gauntlet of 12 pet battles is more challenging than the first two pet dungeons. It leans heavily on mechanical and elemental pets, and 8 of the 12 fights have random backline pets, so you'll want a deep roster of
elemental and aquatic pets
to succeed.
Completing the normal mode unlocks a teleport to Gnomer from
Manapoof
(outside your faction's BFA pet shop), and also unlocks the heroic mode (no bandaging allowed), which can be completed weekly for a
Pristine Gizmo
, used to purchase various pets and other rewards from
Micro Zoox
(outside the instance entrance).
Because of the random battles, it's hard to make an exact shopping list, but here's the crew I use (mostly easily-accessible pets), followed by some quick strategies:
-
Singing Sunflower
+
Nether Faerie Dragon
-
Emperor Crab
,
Eternal Strider
,
Mirror Strider
- 4x
Zandalari
pets
with Black Claw / Hunting Party (at least one S/S breed)
- 4-6
Rabbits
with Dodge / Stampede / Flurry
-
Benax
+ another
Frog
with Tongue Lash / Swarm of Flies
-
Ikky
- lots of elementals, preferably with the Immolate / Conflagrate / Burn moveset (i.e.
Fel Flame
,
Pandaren Fire Spirit
,
Phoenix Hatchling
,
Searing Scorchling
,
Spirit of Summer
)
==============
STAGE 1: AUTOMATED DEFENSES
vs:
Annoy-O-Tron
(mechanical boss)
The aptly named
Annoy-O-Tron
("AOT") uses “Annoying Shield” two out of every five turns and blocks half your damage otherwise, so it can take a while to chop down.
It's
possible
for a
Singing Sunflower
to solo this with
Lash
/
Photosynthesis
/
Sunlight
, but it isn't 100% reliable and takes forever. I speed up the process (slightly) with a
Nether Faerie Dragon
:
-
Sunflower
: Sunlight (
AOT shields
), Photosynthesis
- Swap in
Nether Faerie Dragon
- pass one turn (to take extra damage)
- Life Exchange
- Swap back to Sunflower (
AOT shields
), Photosynthesis
- Sunlight, Lash, Lash
- Photosynthesis
From here, solo the rest of the fight with Lash, refresh Photosynthesis when AOT shields, and don't let Sunlight expire.
(Alternate strategy:
Crazy Carrot
+
Ikky
. Start with Blistering Cold, spam Ironbark and refresh Blistering Cold on cooldown. When Carrot dies, use Ikky's Black Claw + Flock to finish the fight.)
==============
STAGE 2: OUT-OF-CONTROL ELEMENTALS
These three fights aren't hard -- use aquatics for the lead pets, then see below for suggestions against the backline pets:
vs
LIVING SLUDGE
(elemental + 2 backline pets)
Emperor Crab
: Whirlpool, Surge, Healing Wave, Surge, Surge
Swap out the crab after Sludge is dead, save him for the next fight. (see below for backline pets).
vs
LIVING PERMAFROST
(elemental + 2 backline pets)
Same
Emperor Crab
as above – Whirlpool, Healing Wave, Surge, Surge
Swap out the crab after Permafrost dies, which will remove the DOTs from Blistering Cold, then bring in the rest of your team for the backline pets.
vs
LIVING NAPALM
(elemental + 2 backline pets)
Eternal Strider
: Pump, Water Jet, Pump (
Napalm dies
)
Use Cleansing Rain to counter Blizzard if needed; the backline pets shouldn't be a problem.
==============
FOR RANDOM BACKLINE PETS:
- vs mechanicals, any elementals with Immolate + Conflagrate + Burn work great.
- vs Cockroaches, use any Zandalari pet with Black Claw + Hunting Party.
- vs Leper Rats, use any Rabbit(/Hare) with Dodge → Stampede → Flurry.
==============
STAGE 3: PULL THE CORRECT LEVERS
These three pets “dispose” of the elementals you just defeated. As elites, they block 50% of incoming damage, so it's a tougher fight.
- S/S
Zandalari pet
: Black Claw, Hunting Party (
enemy Napalm Carrier dies
)
- Black Claw (
your Zandalari pet dies
)
- bring in rabbit: Stampede (
enemy Freeze Ray Prototype dies
)
- Stampede, Flurry (your rabbit dies)
-
Mirror Strider
: spam Water Jet (
enemy Sludge Disposal Unit dies
)
You have many options for the last pet, including any Strider with Pump / Water Jet / Cleansing Rain.
==============
STAGE 4: BYPASS THE MINE FIELD
Yes, you can die if you don't use the Bomb Shredder (like I did ... for science!), so ... use it!
==============
STAGE 5: RESILIENT CRITTERS
This is just two filler battles, nothing hard.
vs
Cockroach
– any Zandalari pet with Black Claw / Hunting Party (+ appropriate pets for the backline enemies).
vs
Leper Rat
– any Rabbit with Dodge / Stampede / Flurry (+ appropriate pets for backline enemies).
==============
STAGE 6: YOU DIRTY RAT
This
Bloated Leper Rat
has 3200 health, blocks half your damage, and has “Leprosy”, which kills your active pet when it dies. So you need to leave another pet alive to successfully complete this fight.
My team here is a generic rabbit, generic frog, and
Benax
.
Rabbit
: Dodge, Stampede, Flurry, Dodge, Stampede (
rabbit dies
)
Frog
: Tongue Lash x2, Swarm of Flies, Tongue Lash x2, Swarm of Flies, Heal, swap
Benax
: Bubble, Mudslide, Tongue Lash until dead
As long as you can get off a second Dodge and Stampede with your rabbit, which allows your frog to use Tongue Lash x2 with Shattered Defenses up, this fight is relatively easy.
==============
STAGE 7: GNOMEREGAN DEFENSE FORCE, ACTIVATE
These are not tough fights – just three filler battles meant to drain your roster further. The lead pets are mechanicals, teamed with more backline pets, so scout each fight ahead of time to build your teams appropriately.
==============
STAGE 8: SHADOWY FIGURE
You'll get stunned for a bit while some RP plays out.
==============
STAGE 9: PULVERIZER BOT MK 6001
This boss mechanical heals to full health after you “defeat” him once, so you essentially have to beat him twice. I use an
Ikky
and two
Fel Flames
, but any elementals with the
Immolate
/
Conflagrate
/
Burn
moveset (as mentioned above) will work fine.
-
Ikky
: Flock (
PBot 6001 swaps in Fel Flame
)
-
Fel Flame #1
: Immolate, Conflagrate, spam Burn (
PBot 6001 dies, respawns
)
- Reapply Immolate (
your pet dies
)
- Bring
Ikky
back in: Black Claw, Flock until Ikky dies
- If PBot 6001 is still alive, bring in
Fel Flame #2
- Immolate, Conflagrate, Burn until PBot is dead
- profit!
There are certainly many other strategies you can use for these fights -- hopefully this guide helps anyone who might be stuck. Happy pet battling!

If you're horde, the ideal, death-free way of getting to Micro Zoox is the following:
- go to Grom'gol Base Camp in Nothern Stranglethorn
- take the teleport into Gnomegeran
- create a costum group and instantly leave it (or join an existing group)
- wait a minute to get teleported out of the dungeon
You'll spawn right before the NPC! No deaths, no repair costs!

Here's my suggestions to changes for Sluggo's Comment
Here
. I originally posted these as a comment to his comment, but I realized I didn't have enough room to explain the changes.
---
STAGE 1: VS
吵吵机器人原型机
疯狂的萝卜
: 2/X/1
小提
: 2/1/2 OR
赞达拉嚼膝者
: X/1/2
Use Blistering Cold on Cooldown, otherwise use Ironbark. When Crazy Carrot dies, bring in Lil' Tika/Shinchomper and use Black Claw, then Aura of Gonk. Use your other attack until you need to refresh Black Claw. Aura of Gonk will keep the raptor pretty much fully healed while Blistering Cold kills the boss thanks to Black Claw.
---
STAGE 6: VS
浮肿的麻风鼠
幼年瓦格里
: X/2/1
腐臭之羽
: X/2/1 or
伊奇
: X/1/1
The tried the true method, with a twist! Since Ikky is used in Sluggo's strategy for the final boss, we're substituting Foulfeather for him! If you're like me and only collect one of each pet, then this will be great. If you have two ikkys, you can use Ikky instead for this. You can even use a Zandalari pet for this if you have extras, but again, they're also used in Sluggo's strategies for his other pets. EDIT: Now that I suggest an alternate strategy for the final boss, I also suggest Ikky as a substitute.
Simple, usual strategy. Curse of Doom > Haunt > Swap to Foulfeather/Ikky > Black Claw > Flock. Foulfeather/Ikky is usually killed by the rat, but Haunt will kill it, then it resurrects. Bring in your Val'kyr, who resurrects due to Haunt killing it, and use Shadow Slash. The Leper Rat will die again, killing your Val'kyr and ending the fight.
---
STAGE 9: VS
粉碎机器人Mk6001型
First Slot:
ANY Pet with
奔踏
/
群殴
/
自我复制
/
杀戮
/
蜂拥
with Speed HIGHER than 276. (Keep in mind of the Flying Racial's Speed Bonus)
小布
is a good choice, if you need an example.
Second Slot:
迷你金刚
: 2/1/2
Third Slot:
One of the following (Yes, H/H matters, they must have more health than Tinytron, and these are currently the only pets capable of that.).
You may also simply put a deceased pet in the final slot.
H/H
毛绒雷象
H/H
翡翠乌龟
H/H
纳克西
H/H
佩波
H/H
蜗牛滑滑
H/H
闪光湖蜗牛
H/H
紫晶深渊鳗鱼
H/H
闪电
**IMPORTANT: Tinytron Must Not Be in the First Slot**
Simple. Use your Stampede-ish ability with your first pet, and Tinytron will be forced in. Use Fire Shield, then Lightning Shield, then use Flamethrower until the boss kills itself. Congratulations. You win. :)
---
For Backline Pets:
翡翠始祖龙宝宝
: 1/2/2
熔炉之魂
: 2/2/2
These two can handle
EVERY
backline pet in the dungeon on their own. It may go a bit slow, but if you don't want to worry about swapping for different backline pets, just use these two. Keep in mind if you get a Cockroach as a backline pet, you need to make sure you kill as fast as possible to avoid the Super Apocalypse. However, if you see a Cockroach as the 1st Backline Pet, it might be worth forfeiting (and taking the 10% damage) to swap one of them out for a hard-hitter to deal with things faster. If it's the 2nd backline pet, you're fine. We opt for the Dragon Breath on Emerald Proto Whelp over Emerald Bite, as magic is resisted by Mechanical, the most prominent backline pets in the dungeon. Whereas Dragon is only resisted by Undead, which is rather rare in this dungeon, and undead pets can be handled by Soul of the Forge rather easily.
Two other extremely good backline pets (though not AS good as the above mentioned are:
繁花古树
布鲁特
---
BONUS!
I have found that for Stage 7, there's two pets that really comes in handy in the backline. And that is...
昆莱小雪人
: 1/2/2
淘气包
: 2/1/1
In particular, against
诺莫瑞根护卫虎
, Mischief can handle him with Foreboding Curse and Fel Immolate. When it feigns death to retreat, it will die in the backline to Fel Immolate. Mischief can even handle Cockroaches with Pounce. However, I ONLY suggest using Mischief in this fight in particular, as being a Beast, it is Vulnerable to Mechanical moves.
These 3 fights are mostly going to be mechanical pets, but occasionally you will end up with some cockroaches in there. That's where the Kun-Lai runt comes in handy. It's able to dispatch of Mechanical pets with its Frost Shock/Deep Freeze Combo, but it's also able to handle cockroaches really well with Frost Shock > Thrash. If you think your other 2 pets can handle the mechanicals, you can even swap Deep Freeze for Rampage just in case.

In addition to existing strategies exposed on that page I will share the one I got, as everyone around does not have every mascot available ^_^
Thus I made an attempt to pick commonly found battle pets whenever it was possible.
First you will need the quest start, from Tizzy for the Alliance and Radek for the Horde. The Alliance one is in 50.2 / 46.8 in Boralus while the Horde one is in 55.9 / 32.3 in Dazar'Alor, bottom of the pyramid.
This being done, let's go to Gnomeregan. Do not trust the marker on your mini map as it is bugged. The NPC you are looking for is down the elevator, left from it, just close to the dungeon's entrance. One just has to go down the elevator and turn left when able to. You would meet another battle pet related NPC you do not need right now though he has an interesting battle pet to offer when he is on a good mood. The NPC you are looking for is located 20 meters away from him.
Now the gauntlet! One free ride allowing to reanimate battle pets as much as needed, then the real challenge not allowing it anymore. To be mentioned the gauntlet can only be achieved once a week per account, then do not bother bringing every alts you have on Tuesday night to get it done again on Wednesday ;-)
Once the gauntlet is successfully achieved, you will only need to speak to the little elemental next to the NPC who started the quest (the one in Boralus or Dazar'Alor) so that he sends you directly to Gnomeregan.
Twelve battle pet packs to fight, most of the time composed from a tough battle pet (generally mechanical or elemental) and two lesser ones (always critter or mechanical type). Wise thing to fill your team accordingly, avoiding beasts and undead pets.
If you are running out of ideas, pick treants (ruby saplings and similar pets), Fozlin 1-2-2 or a 1-2-1 rabbit (avoid 2-2-1 as some enemy pets often cast "shield").
--> Here are my winning teams, trying to pick commonly found battle pets as I previously said :
- Annoy-o-tron :
Three lava (or fire) beetles 1-2-1.
Cast "burn" all along and "scorched earth" / "cauterize" when the boss casts his bubble.
- Living Permafrost :
Eternal Strider 1-2-2 (or any Strinder having at least 305 speed) and two other pets to fill in.
Strider casts "pump", "water jet", "cleansing rain" when the opponent changes weather, then keeps casting "water jet". Do not forget to cast "pump" a second time to get rid of the second battle pet. Kill the last one using your two team fillers.
- Living Sludge :
Any 1-1-1 frog, ideally in a 290+ speed breed, and two team fillers to go with.
I had a 325+ speed Leopard Tree Frog who did the trick and almost killed the entire team by itself. Classic strategy : cast "frog kiss" when available and "healing wave" or "water jet" when it is not.
- Living Napalm :
Same as above but your frog would only need to have 261+ speed, ideally.
- Door Control Console :
Two Ghost Sharks, first one being 1-1-1 and the second one 1-1-2, with a Young Sand Sifter 2-1-2.
Cast "huge, sharp teeth" then "dive" and "blood in the water". Keep going from then with "huge, sharp teeth".
Same thing with your second shark, unless he would heal himself once with "consume corpse" and dive only to avoid "sewage eruption".
Sifter will just throw everything he got : "carpnado", "water jet" and "dive".
Ghost Sharks can be replaced with 2-2-1 snails and Sifter for Pandaren Water spirit. Takes longer with snails but they are way easier to find.
- Cockroach :
Ban Fu 1-2-1 and two team fillers.
You can switch Ban Fu for Xu Fu for any other beast but I like that one, as it can completely self heal casting "prowl" then "feed".
- Leper Rat :
Infected squirrel 2-2-1 (love that cheated battle pet, beside it is really easy to obtain) and two team fillers.
Cast "creeping fungus" then "stampede" and that is done. Make sure the next battle pet gets that "stampede" effect as well before bringing your 2nd battle pet over.
- Bloated Leper Rat :
Unborn Valkyr 2-2-1 / Zandalari Kneebiter 2-2-2 / Infected squirrel 2-2-1 just in case.
Cast "curse of doom" then "haunt". Bring the kneebiter over and cast "black claw" then "hunting party".
- Gnomeregan Guard Wolf :
Enchanted Torch 1-1-2 / Transmutant 1-2-2 / any filler.
Torch casts "immolation" then keeps on with "burn".
In case it gets vulnerable during the fight, switch for Transmutant, making sure to cast "life exchange" on the second battle pet you are facing. Actually as Torches are magical and cannot lose more 1/3 from the HP on one blow, it might not be necessary to switch pets and bring a Transmutant over, but I had both around and enjoyed it ;-)
Anyway! Any magical pet who can damage mechanical ones would just do fine, such as lamps / lanterns and such.
- Mechanostrider :
Amalgam of Destruction 1-1-1 and two team fillers.
Cast "fire shield" straight away then "immolate" and "flame jet". Same as above, any pet who has fire or lightning shield would do, or even any battle pets who can damage mechanical ones, but Amalgam of Destruction sounds to be the most efficient here.
- Tiger :
Fel-Affected Skyfin 2-1-2 / Firebat Pup 2-2-1 and any filler.
Cast "fel immolate" and "glowing toxin" then "wing buffet". Very fun thing to watch :-D
Same thing on the second battle pet though "wing buffet" will not be available. This being done, pick the Firebat and go on with "burn". Actually the Firebat can be easily replaced but I thought it would fit well facing these mechanicals pets. Same as above, the key is mainly to pick a battle pet who can damage mechanical ones.
- Pulverizer Bot :
Ideally, Broot 2-2-2 or Blossoming Ancient with two Tinytrons 2-1-2.
Broot gets replaced straight away and Tinytron comes into play. Cast "fire shield", "lightning shield" and "flame thrower"
in that order
and grab yourself a beer. Should the boss be still alive if you are from the unlucky type, pick your 2nd Tinytron and that is done.
Beside if you do not have two Tinytrons then pick a Stormstruck Beaver or any pet with "lightning shield" provided it is not beast-type. Broot is not mandatory either as it just helps feeling safe, for instance if you make a mistake and cast "lightining shield" before "fire shield". Actually you can pick pretty much anything in your team as long as your 2nd or 3rd mascot is a Tinytron AND has less maximum HP than your last battle pet (which is not that easy to find as Tinytron got 1887 max hp). If you cannot find such a battle pet then go for Stormstuck Beaver, cast "lightning shield" and so on and wait until Tinytron gets into fight. Should make things easier to those who do not have every rare battle pets in two or three copies ;-)
Should you have no Tinytrons at all, Broot with two Stormstruck Beavers would do but it tends to be more risky from my experience.
As for battle mechanics, the boss will swap the active pet for the one who got the less HP. This is why having two Tinytrons is perfect as they got the same max HP. Indeed, a single Tinytron was enough to beat that boss down, as I tested that strategy again a few hours ago.
Feel free to comment and / or upvote if these strategies worked out well for you :-)

Small tip : if you need to heal battle pets, you can scout a fight putting
Pygmy Cow
as first pet and use her ability Mother's milk to heal your 2 other pets ; of course forfeiting the fight will cost 10% health to your 3 pets and the cow itself is not healed by her ability but if you don't have many spare rabbits / hares, emperor crabs and fire-handling elementals this can come in handy.
Same tip using
Alterac Brew-Pup
.

Just a note, at least as of 8/4/2019, you CANNOT log onto an alt while in the middle of the (Normal difficulty) dungeon! You will have to start the entire dungeon over. I have not tested it in Heroic/Challenge mode.

A simple macro to see if you've done the instance for the week:

Aren't all pet dungeons weekly lockouts per account? I find this dungeon quest to sometimes show up a second time on alts allowing for more than one run per week.

Have you run Wailing Caverns, Deadmines, Stratholme, Gnomeregan, Blackrock Depths or Celestial Tournament this week?
Run this script to find out.
/run local N,t,d={"Wail","Dead","Strat","Gnome","Blackrock","Celestial"},{45539,46292,56492,54186,58458,33137} for s,k in pairs(N)do d=C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(t) print(k,"=",d and "\124cFF00FF00" or "\124cFFFF0000NOT","Done")end
This script will work with newer expansions where some of the older scripts no longer seem to work.
I created a new macro containing this script and attached the macro to one of my "Utilities" hotkeys for easy access.
