Some bosses are hard. Azjol-nerub, Nexus. They require attention, dps, itemization. But they lack spirit. Why there is a gigant bug there? Oh, there is another in the next room.
So... killing the bug that is the only reason the Lich king survived long enough to become the Lich king lacks spirit?

Yes, he doesnt deserve to be the last boss of the 2nd instance in WotLK
BRD is the most epic thing in WoW, ever

I must admit I preferred the instances with a tiny bit more depth behind them mentally, gathering keys, doing things in the right order, summoning a boss, I mean how many days - possibly weeks - I spent wandering around lost in Sunken Temple before I figured out what to do! Generally speaking it's pretty hard to get lost or confused in the wotlk instances, the path is always straight forward (especially now we have maps so you can never get lost!), and the design is always very simple so I'm sure even the first people who ever entered the instances just wandered along, found a boss, hit it, found another boss hit it, wahey, achievement, without any thought process at all.

I agree. Instances are getting worse and worse. They used to be difficult and take some skill and time to complete but now they are 30 min aoe parties. In dm you had to look over your shoulder all the time for pats because they would wipe you ass if they caught you in the middle of a fight. That never happens anymore. There are few pats and they don't respawn.

BRD was retarded. A lot of the stuff you fought was trivial, and just seemed like a waste of time to get to the stuff you really wanted. Either that, or it was a challenge in the beginning, and you couldn't do the later bosses at all. Too much annoying trash, too much unnecessary trash (seriously, some pathes seemed to go nowhere, why?), too much crap in there that you wouldn't possibly think of doing the instance in one run (and a lot of it was crap for you if you were able to do it all).
BRD would be much better if they made 3/4 of the trash non-elite, and made it non-instanced, and then instanced a couple of the boss areas. Make the path to the emperor a wing, make the city area a wing, and then maybe add a wing for all the lava bosses.
The best instance ever IMO was magister's terrace, there was good fights, it looked good, the trash was interesting and there was just enough of it that you had some rest time between bosses, but not enough that you're drowning in it. Oh, and the lore characters meant something, all the bosses in BRD were nothing. They were just random lava giants, fire elementals, dwarves, or fire naga.

Whilst I agree with the OP that the character of many new instances is somewhat lacking, let's be honest here: the reason this has come about is because people were unwilling to put in the time & effort to get the rather ordinary loot from the bosses involved. I've always like BRD too, but let's face it, how much of the loot was that amazing?
What I'd rather see now though is perhaps 1 or 2 instances on the same scale as BRD (say a tie-in for wherever we'll be raiding in 3.2), but with high-quality loot inside (kinda like Magisters' Terrace). Make it a big, challenging place filled with interesting stuff, but also make it worth completing. If a 5-man group is going to spend (for example) 2 hours inside one dungeon instead of running four 30-minute places, they ought to get better rewards as a result.

BRD, BRS, ST.
Horrific time sinks, if you were ever able to get a group that could stay together longer than 3 bosses.
Gear was sub-par.
While non-linearity is nice, BRD takes the %^&* really, its just too big for its own good.
If it was a choice between BRD-types and the current types, I'd take the current.

Honestly, Azjol Nerub and Ahn Kahet are just massively epic in terms of graphic ambiance, location and background. Of course, we are only walking along the predetermined path, but have you looked in the depths and around you ? Same for Gun Drak. And in the end, what was the boat if not a circular hallway with 2 levels, just smartly disguised ? I wouldn't say the new instances look is less epic than the old ones.
The one thing that changed is that nobody wants to spend 4 hours in the same dungeon anymore. Doing all the quests and bosses in Sunken Temple ? That's 3 hours right there if you aren't getting boosted and discover the instance the normal way (ie with a few wipes on the way on the mobs that fear and other fun things).
Doing a full BRD run ? Honestly i never ever did that. Either we were going for the bar side, or the Arena/keys/iron dwarf quests + Incendius. Mostly i went there to help people do their MC/onyxia attunement. I only did the 7 dwarfs event twice and the Emperor twice too. Honestly, you could have spent a full afternoon there before finishing it (if managing even that).
It was epic yes, but i can understand people not wanting to spend that much time on 5-man instances. BC had #$%^ty short instances with "path/door/room/path/door/room/..." as a result, but wotlk instances have a nice and changing design, are integrated in epic story lines (the Azjol ones and Ulduar ones are slightly shaky but the others are very well integrated), so i don't really agree with your post.
Yes they are much shorter, but they are still well designed and interesting (as far as 5-man instances can be).

While I love the idea that I can do about 5-6 instances in the time it took to do BRD, I don't have that sense of wow that I had when I finished BRD, ST, or ZF for the first time (or the second or third for that matter).
I suppose I have mixed feelings. I like the hastiness of the new designs, but the adventure of the old instances.
Maybe something in the middle could be made. Somwething that takes an hour; is not an AOEfest; and makes you look behind you and think, "damn, did we just do that?"
As mentioned above, it would need to be worth the time-sink. Maybe in an hour long type instance, there would be 6-7 bosses. Two or three bosses would drop epics.
Just my two cents.
