Started by the item 夜明珠, which is obtained from fishing in any fishing pools found in The Broken Isles.
The quest turns in to Archmage Khadgar in Dalaran. He can be found in The Violet Citadel on the far west side.
Take the 夜明珠 to near the Dalaran fountain.
is given by Nat Pagle who will run up to your character shortly after you walk away from the fountain.
After accepting the quest, talk to Nat Pagle to be taken to Val'Sharah, which starts a scenario.
Stage 1: Kill all the murlocs in the area.
Stage 2: Fish up Gloaming Frenzy. Fish up 薄暮狂鱼 from the lake with many fishing pools. frequently spawn when fishing which also drop 薄暮狂鱼.
Stage 3: Give Nat your Gloaming Frenzies. Nat will be near the pool of boiling/bubbling water.
Stage 4: What's below? After Nat throws the Frenzies in the water, a very large fishing pool will appear.
Stage 5: Mglrrp. Kill the big guy.
Once you kill Mglrrp, take the boat back to Dalaran and turn the quest in to .
Talk to Marcia again to get your artifact!

At least they removed fishing up coins from the Dalaran fountain as a requirement.

This is a great guide, leveling fishing is usually something I dread and only do it so I can gather mats for raiding consumables. With this guide I can set clear goals and obtain the awesome artifact fishing pole. Not to mention the currency for that shark mount. this will be fun to get and use. Love that they included the "turn into a fish underwater" while equipped but why is it a remora? why not, you know, an angler fish or angler murloc? Maybe it's just a placeholder model.

Artifact power for both end traits = 5500 (110 total rare fish)

After you get both of the end traits, Way of the Flounder + Underlight Blessing, the cost of further increases raises substantially.

Each additional point after both end traits:
1000 - 20 additional rare fish, 130 total rare fish
6840 - 137 additional rare fish, 267 total rare fish
8830 - 177 additional rare fish, 444 total rare fish
11280 - 225 additional rare fish, 669 total rare fish
14400 - 288 additional rare fish, 957 total rare fish

Thank you. Great Guide! So far it seems to me droprate of Rare Fish is very high. In 200 casts I got 4 different Lures and with a single lure I got 6 rare Fish. Are some Lures common and some rare?

Well, unless something is incredibly broken after the shutdown a few hours ago... rare fish have been nerfed within extinction. 3 hours of fishing with arcane lures in pools, 100+ baits and a grand total of 3 rares.

Is it actually possible on live to fish up the bait and the rare fish in open water? I've had absolutely no luck fishing in open water myself and there are some mixed reports around the internet saying that you can no longer fish up either the bait or the fish in open water.
I was just wondering if anyone else had some light to shed on this matter.

Once you reach 800 Fishing, there is no need to keep additional +5 fish. They do not automatically cut over to the +50 artifact power, you'll have to catch new ones. Except for the Stunned Shark (1 min duration) you can keep the bait fish for future use, or sell on the AH. Happy Fishing

Tip!

It would be wise to acquire this artifact right now. The Oodlefjisk in Stormheim for example are bugged in our favor in that the pools do not despawn. And every cast = a fish (100% from these pools), so that's 50 artifact power every single cast.

If you fish up a lure for them (Achient Vrykul Ring) you can fish for 9 mins in one. In this time you can easily get 30+ Oodlefjisk, for 1500 artifact power with your weapon. And with an arcane lure on, you have a 99% chance to fish up another Ancient Vrykul Ring in the process. Rinse and repeat :)

This same is true for the Ghostly Queenfish in Aszuna. I enabled all my gold skills on the artifact in no time using this, only stopped when the traits started costing 15k AP (and they weren't as good anymore).

Happy fishing guys! The artifact is great fun really. Fast swimming (you turn into a shark!) and then popping out of the water, standing on it immediately with water walking ready to fish. It's absolutely brilliant.

I'm not sure artifact knowledge applies to the underlight angler. Just finished my first knowledge work order and rare fish are still giving 50 AP each.

I was trying to get the oceanic rares. Spent 3 hours (skill 400-460), only one bait dropped and after using it not even a single rare fish dropped. So I decided to skip fishing in this expansion and deleted all lures from zones as it was safe to say that the drop rate is 0.00% (basing on estimated amount of 400 catches).

On the pole itself, it says it will teleport you to a node within 300 yards. On the actual ability, it says 200 yards. Blizzard has a typo on one side or the other.

--- As it is, the range is crazy low. Don't get the fishing pole if that is the only draw for you.

First poster here. I have done a ton of fishing and here is a pic of what my pole looks like right now.

A few pointers, it seems that you don't need the arcane lure anymore after you get the pole. I have been fishing in pools all over the broken isle and I have been getting lures.

Once you put your points into having the chance of fishing up a pool of fish. The pool disappears while fishing and a bucket appears inside you will find a ton of fish. If you have the bait attached while doing this you can get anywhere from 5-8 fish for artifact power.

If you have the pole equipped, your mount will go faster while swimming. Tested it a couple days ago and it works magically. The points into the fish are well worth it, you turn into a shark / carp thing and go pretty darn fast in the water. If you go into combat it goes away. However, you still very fast with the pole on.

I put a point into fishing up the boots, I have caught north of 2,000 fish and haven't gotten any boots. I have only fished up a few Blood of Sargeras as well. The drop rate seems pretty low for the bloods and even lower for boots.

I don't know the exact percentages but fishing in pools is WAY better than fishing in open water for getting the baits and getting the rare fish. Baits can also be sold and bought on the AH as well.

Walking on water is good as well, after equipping the pole you have to stand on land for a few seconds before it takes affect.

That is pretty much it, if anyone has any questions, let me know. Thanks!

Edit: I am at the point where it's 6840 artifact power for the next point. You can def get enough power to fill out the main bonus ones just by fishing rares. It scales the same way as your artifact weapon, costing more each time.

Edit: Fished up Diver's Chain Boots of the Harmonius with the Boot artifact fishing level. Still dont think its worth it.

RNG can't possibly be this bad tonight, and I caught the Decayed Whale Blubber out in the ocean, but it's not in my inventory.

Burning Arcanes at 1000 fishing in pools, open water, inland... getting notta. And what i do get, it's 50/50 it's in my bag after looting.

Got my pole today thanks to this guide. It might be worth mentioning that you need to have the pole equipped when you throw the AP fish back - I wasted my first one :(

Also, Undercurrent doesn't care if you'll agro mobs when you teleport. I appeared between four level 110 crocs with all my fishing gear equipped - it did not end well...

I have to fish in pools without my artifact to get new baits, CUZ my artifact destroys the pool by turning the hole pool in to a barril with only fish and NO BAITS!
PLS make BARRILS able to catch BAIT ALSO. i want to get rid of my crapy pole and fish all with my artifact!

It's possible to fish up a Luminous Pearl after having already handed it in. Blizzard had the wherewithal to make it vendorable, at least! Serves no purpose except to collect 1c.

I finished the Ocean part of the achievement in about 10-15 minutes in Stormheim, near the Tideskorn Harbor part of the zone. It belongs to Ocean water, and I farmed there Black Barracuda Schools.

There are not so many of these pools, but with Arcane Lure it was pretty fast to catch the 3 "bait" items and then the fishes too.

(My main goal was to farm Stormheim baits near Tideskorn Harbor, but instead of them I catched Ocean baits, which really surprised me, but worked fine. I'd be really happy if someone could confirm that it was not just my "luck" :) )

One thing I've noticed, that I don't see already mentioned...

When I killed a Stunned and Angry Shark, the fish I looted were for fishing skill and not artifact power. Another time I released a Sleeping Murloc after clearing out a mob for room. I ran over all his fish and they were for fish skill, not artifact power, I believe because I still had my weapon armed both times.

So, if you're going for artifact power, be sure you have your pole in hand when you go to collect the fishies. :)

After about 10 hours in game of fishing I can say with 100% certainty that ALL BAIT can be caught in open water. The Arcane Lure SEEMS to be a huge help, but it is still incredibly RNG (the Rusty Queenfish Brooch took me 3 hours on it's own, then I caught 3 additional ones within 2 casts of using one and casting on a Ghost Queenfish School)

One way to farm Artifact Power for your is to catch the 幽灵女王鱼, this gives 50 AP per fish. The most efficient way is to use the 奥术鱼饵, then catch the 珠光海螺 and the 海巨人趾甲. Then you want to relog every time the 海巨人趾甲 is 30 seconds left from spawning. This will reset the timer. The point of this hassle is you can only hold 1 of each bait, making the 生锈的女王鱼胸针 the only bait you can catch.

I got my underlight angler today and fished up a few rares to power it up. So I shift rclick on the pole and it tells me to go to the artifact forge in my class hall to spend the points on traits. I've got 500 points - enough for 2 traits. And I have it equipped and am standing nearly on top of the forge. And I still get the message to go to the artifact forge in my class hall... Anyone have similar issues? Is there something I'm not doing? I've had no probs working the forge with my weapon.

Edit: I got a wild idea that blizzard screwed up and tried the dalaran fountain since that's where I took the pearl. And it worked! So when you get the message to go to the forge in your class hall - ignore it and go to the fountain instead.

A couple things I wanted to add to this.

When leveling your artifact pole, you have to go back to the pools with lures and fish up your rare fish again. Once you get the rare fish, you need to throw them back in the water like you previously did to get that extra five fishing levels, except this time they give 50 artifact power each. Also the fish no longer stack, so if you power through it, you may notice your bags filling up quickly.

Side note...

Don't try to sneakily hoard your rare fish you obtained while getting the achievement... They will still give you 5 fishing levels and not artifact power.
(though they do sell for 10g each so instead of throwing them into the water and wasting them... vendor them)

Could you add info about how the rotten fishbone WORKS please? I just wasted mine because you didn't explain that it's not a lure, but that in fact in summons an NPC who then casts a buff on you to catch the fish in question. When I threw it and nothing happened right away I thought I had screwed up so I rode off.

So, if your like me and do not love fishing, but want the Fishing artifact, to make the grind a little bit easier, since the lures are Unique, you can buy them off the Auction House. I was about to buy the lures for 3 zones for about 100g a piece, saving me a lot of time. Obviously some servers you wont be able to do this, but it may also help you make a little extra cash after you get the artifact too!

While in Aszuna (El'dranil Shallows to be precise) I fished up the Landlocked Shark and the Decayed Whale Blubber from a black barracuda school. I'm almost beginning to wonder if fishing up certain bait isn't tied into types of pools rather than the actual location of where you fish it up from. Anyone have a similar experience?

I've now caught all the rare fish for 大鱼为重 on my Demon Hunter. This meant starting at fishing skill 1, and have no fishing gear. The amount of fishing + the 5 skill bonus from each rare was enough to get me to 800 fishing skill while still 4 or 5 rares short of the achivement.

All I did was find some pools and get the lures using 奥术鱼饵. Once I got a lure, I just kept on fishing where I was (regardless of pools) and would get 1-8 of the rare fish attracted by that lure. No need to waste time looking for new pools once you have the lure.

There were two rares I actually had to get from pools; 斧鱼 and 上古黑梭鱼. First I had a really hard time getting lures for these two (from fishing in Black Barracuda pools), so I ended up buying 斧鱼鱼饵 and 腐烂鲸脂 on AH at about 300g BO each. After I applied the lures I got both rares within 3 attempts in a Black Barracuda pool in Suramar.
Note that for 上古黑梭鱼 you can buy either 腐烂鲸脂 or 饥饿的苍蝇 directly on AH, but I found that the latter was far more expensive for some reason. I'm note sure if this also applies to 啤酒瓶中的信, but there were none for sale at the time I was shopping, and the lure had a reasonable price.

At the moment I'm on my 10th Black Barracuda pool, looking for the 夜明珠. This actually seems to be harder to get than any of the rares.

To acquire a great amount of artifact power for your pole I just kept fishing for Runescale Koi Schools at Suramar (as shown in this comment: 符鳞锦鲤/runescale-koi#comments:id=2403570 )

And if you have the Runescale Koi trait, you'll clear pretty much the whole river. In about 3 hours, I got enough artifact power for the first 15 traits. Remember to use the Arcane Lures and Baits -- especially the Sleeping Murloc as it drops a good amount of rare fish. Good luck!

Correction: While the artifact menu for the Underlight Angler claims that it is affected by artifact knowledge, the amount of artifact power gained from each rare fish does not change. This may be a bug, but in either case it does not currently affect it.

Artifact research upgrades don't seem to help at all in live. I have 2 done so it should be +50% while would be 75 artifact power, but everything is giving me only 50 artifact power still.

yea i am stuck on the seabottom squid one. i got every other one on the 1st or second cast with the lure but i cannot for the life of me get this shark. I walked around the coast of the entire continent, fished every pool, and not a single one.

First of all thank you for the awesome guide. By following it i was able to grab my artifact in ~3.5 hours.
I used Arcane Lure , the 骨质鱼竿 and 超级鱼虫 .
I also made use of 飞行管理员的哨子 whenever available to relocate.

A few tips / notes i'd like to add:

If you're looking to power level your artifact, the best zone i found for it is just north of Irongrove Retreat in Suramar. There's a high density of Runescale Koi pools there and the area is easy to navigate. Go back to Dalaran once you've gathered enough artifact power to unlock the Runescale Koi Angling trait which will make the farm even more efficient.

Also a random tip - when you use the 沉睡的鱼人 , it's usually better to use him on land so you don't have to swim around to get the fish he drops.

- Your best friend is 奥术鱼饵
- And stacking 水之印记 does not increase the droprate for 浸水的魔力

I got it in a weekend, few tips:

-When not fishing on pools, I found it really hard to fish baits, but once you have the bait buff it's ok not to fish in pools.
-For the coastal fishing, as long as you are on a coast and fish near water where barracuda pools spawn, you'll be good to find the coast baits.
-I made the mistake of using baits of the fish I already had, save all the duplicate baits you get, you'll need them later to upgrade the pole.
-Read what the bait actually does, some for example the 腐烂鲸脂 need to be used while standing on the ground, I was fishing on the 垂钓翁钓鱼筏 and I wasted two of these.
-Also if you fish on the 垂钓翁钓鱼筏, it has a 10 min duration so when you are about to throw bait make sure you have enough time left, you don't want to fall in the water interrupting your fishing.
-The 生锈的女王鱼胸针 and 古代维库指环 baits are the best for getting artifact power. Stand where the pools will spawn if you can, so you don't waist bait time on moving, the good thing is that these pools don't expire until the bait buff is off.
-Also Suramar has a lot of koi pools together and the 沉睡的鱼人 drops there, make you slap him in a flat clear floor, it really makes it easier to see the fish he drops.

AFTER WEEKS OF A BUGGY ROD IT SEEMS AS THAT LAST NIGHT THEY HOT FIXED SOME OF THE BUGS WE HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT.

I can verify FOR SURE that they hot fixed the black barracuda angling trait.

Now when fishing from barracuda pool with 3/3 put into barracuda angling you actually receive barrels AND instead of being filled with Silver Mackerel they have Black Barracuda like they should!

From the 20 or so barracuda pools I fished from each one had a barrel and each barrel had 3-6 barracuda, as well as lures and rare fish.

I will continue to update this post with whatever info I feel is relevant but as of now it seems like the bugs are finally fixed!

So thanks blizzard! We fishers are very appreciative for the fix to the rod!

It feels like the barrel traits are designed to make the fisher able to fish up the pool quickly (instead of getting more fish with more traits) but it may take more testing to see if having 1/3 in an angling trait is more beneficial than having 3/3

Guys I was just doing some fishing when all of a sudden my Underlight Angler started showing up as " Item info not found". It stayed this way for an hour or so and now it just came back up.

BUT i noticed that the undercurrent ability now has a range of 300 yards! This may indicate some kind of hotfix for the pole so we may need to go out and do new rounds of testing!

You do not need to have lures to catch the rare fish. I got the mountain puffer 5 times in a row just by fishing in a radome river. And I only had 375 fishing skill xD

A couple things to note that are not mentioned in this guide. Once you obtain your fishing artifact, you must have it equipped to catch rare fish that grant artifact power. If you don't have your fishing artifact equipped, the rare fish you catch will grant +fishing skill. I learned this the hard way.

Also, the rare fish that you catch that grant +fishing skill stack. The ones that grant artifact power DO NOT. So make sure you have bag space. Another thing I learned the hard way.

To aquire fish that gives artifact power for underlight angler you need to have it equiped, that also aplies to stunned shark - you need to make last hit with underlight angler equiped otherway you will get another pack of +5 to fishing.

Water walking perk does not work while mounted.

This is the macro I use when farming Oodelfijsk to level my . This also works for Cursed Queenfish if you're fishing in Azsuna, just have to change the "/cast Oodelfijsk" to "/cast Cursed Queenfish".

When you use this macro, it will consume any oodelfjisk you have in your inventory and cast the line in the same global because Fishing has no global cooldown. This allows you to make the most of each 古代维库指环 because you won't have to worry about inventory space as the artifact power granting rare fish do not stack like the ones fished without the fishing artifact. I also added in the 饱经风霜的渔帽 because I have it, you can adjust it as you need to based on what fishing modifiers you have.

*potential* bug

On the first rare lure after obtaining my angler, I fished up 17 Oodelfjisk from a single pool. No artifact points were obtained after I tossed them all back in the water.

Potential mistake was using my "regular" pole to catch the first oodelfjisk before I remembered to swap in the angler. Maybe that one "regular" oodelfjisk screwed the pooch even though it wasn't even the first oodelfjisk I threw back in. Don't honestly know.

On my second pool, I made sure to use the angler esclusively, and tossed 'em all back both during and after the pool's 5 minute term with no problems. All the oodelfjisks coughed up my points.

Just throwing this out there, but don't really know if I'm describing a real bug. Better safe than sorry - equip your angler before firing up your rare fish lure.

Fish in pools! The guide recommended 30 arcane lures, and I only used 11. Ended up at 326 fishing from 0, had to go back and fish some more because after throwing all my fish in I was only 756. It took me maybe 4 hours to get the pearl.

After getting enough AP for 2 level ups, I returned to the Dalaran Fountain with my pole equipped, and clearly got the message I had to use my class hall forge. Logged in and out at the fountain. same-o. Went to my class hall forge and it did nothing. Reread this post, returned to the Dalaran Fountain, and NOW it works as a 'forge' for my pole.

Just an fyi, the 鹏羽天角风筝 won't get you there.
New Dalaran counts as Broken Isles, but the Great Sea does not and will remove the buff.
You hit the Great Sea zone almost immediately after leaving the Dalaran island, while Margoss's island is entirely in that zone.

Class skills and goblin gliders work fine though, as they don't have the zone restrictions.

There are general benefits to having this item, even if you don't like fishing, e.g., water walking, transforming into a fish for fast swimming, etc. In case you are wondering, it does not complete with the other weapons for artifact power - it uses a different type of currency, obtained only by fishing rares.

It's relatively easy to obtain the achievement, if you don't mind purchasing lures on the ah.

For those skilling up the fishing rod you can sell the rarebaits to a vendor if you have the mount and then it gets to the buyback-tab.
If you are fishing in for example in Suramar you can sell all the Sleeping Murlocs then you can have a total of 13 before having to use them and then you find a nice place to set them free. I popped 3 at the same time and just ran around picking up the fish and you don't have to worry about getting a full inventory because they will be sent by mail when you don't have bag space.
You can do the same with Oodelfjisk and Ghostly Queen Fish aswell but since they buffed Sleeping Murlocs it's by far more efficient to rank up the rod in Suramar

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who took the time to write this guide and everyone who added constructive comments/advice -- I was able to take my hunter from a 1 fishing skill to 800, get the Artifact, and unlocked both gold attributes in a total of 8 1/2 hours. I realize I was extremely fortunate with some of my luck, but I was extremely dreading this from the get-go...

Again, thanks to everyone's input, I was able to get it done this quickly and hopefully I'll be able to shave off some time in the next two since I have 2 other characters I plan to take the time and get this on.

Additionally, I want to point out that I can verify that everything (except the Luminous Pearl) *can* drop outside of schools, but I recommend using them as much as possible. The first 2 zones I did took the longest and they were the ones I just fished in a random spot without using nodes. The rest flew by, using the schools once I found their locations.

Leveling your

Following advice from other posts, I tried leveling my artifact in Suramar, but I found it frustrating to have to avoid mobs, switch between land mount and water mount, etc.

The best way I have found to fish for rare fish is this:

Prep (in Dalaran)
- Visit , collect 浸水的魔力, and buy a stack of 奥术鱼饵. I usually grab a stack of 10.
- Go to an Auction House and buy the 古代维库指环. (This is optional, but helps speed things along more quickly.)
- If you're really hardcore, you can switch to an alt and buy more copies of the ring, but you probably won't need it. I find that with the Arcane Lure I'm able to get more copies of the Ancient Vrykul Ring as I go through the process. You can only have one ring at a time, so you will need to use 移动邮箱 and mail the extra lures to yourself for retrieval while fishing.
- If you don't have the means to walk on water, you'll need to buy something like 德拉诺水上行走药剂. There are a good number of ways to walk on water... just pick your favorite and have enough for as long as you plan to fish.
- Make sure you can fly or float safely from a height. Use a 地精滑翔器工具包 or have enchanted a cloak with Goblin Glider. You'll need this once.

Travel to your spot!
- Fly to Valdisdall, Stormheim. You'll overlook a bay to the South.
- Jump off the cliff to the South and use your 地精滑翔器工具包 to glide down. Aim for passing under the bridge you see on the map due West of Valdisdall.
- I find this area has a good number of 风暴鳐鱼 pools and not many mobs. Just a few sharks that seem to be deep enough to mostly ignore.

Fish!
- Walk on water, or use a potion.
- Use an Arcane Lure to pull up more lures as you go.
- Use the Ancient Vrykul Ring - and quickly look for an 奥德菲斯鱼 pool. Hurry - you're on the clock.
- Once you find the pool, fish away and collect your rare Oodelfjisk.

Two good Oodelfjisk locations that are fairly consistent for me are just to the North of the world quest boat, along the coast (58, 61). Second spot is due East from the boat, near the shoreline (53, 65) where there's a basilisk or two.

This strategy has a number of benefits -- the waters in the bay here aren't crammed with enemy mobs, meaning you'll suffer fewer interruptions. Second, the Ancient Vrykul Ring gives a longer time for its lure to work -- 5 minutes instead of 2 minutes at the unmodified initial level. Third, once you find one Oodelfjisk pool, it won't despawn... you can fish until your timer runs out.

I find that I can pretty much fish constantly and pull an Oodelfjisk out with almost every cast. It made for extremely fast leveling of my most-excellent .

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere, I apologize if I missed it. And it should be obvious, but for whatever reason, I'm not seeing how to use the pole to teleport me to the next fishing pool. I have it equipped, I have that trait completed. But it does nothing when I click on it. There is a pool not even 100 yards away from me. I'm not seeing an ability in my Spellbook & Abilities window. How do you utilize that trait? Thanks. Never mind, I found it in my Sellbook. I must have just overlooked it before, right where it should be, after Mobile Banking and before Arcane Acuity, the first passive ability.

Underlight Angler - Fastest Way to get Artifact Power

Thought I would put this out there for those asking - what's the fastest way to obtain all of the traits?

1. Fastest way to raise is by fishing Oodelfjisk.
2. Head out to Stormheim and try the lake areas around 58.6 59.9
3. Fish pools with your arcane lure until you get "Ancient Vrykul Ring"
4. To maximize your fishing head to a spot where you know a Oodelfjisk pool will spawn ahead of time - I use the one at 58.6 59.9.
5. Click your ring and start fishing away.

-I can fish up around 43-44 fish during the 10min window. Since each fish is worth 50 Artifact Power you should expect around 2150 Artifact Power per 10 mins of fishing.
-Make sure you have enough bag space ahead of time they don't stack.
-While it doesn't always happen I've had streaks up to 6 times where I will fish up a new Ring while fishing up Oodelfjisk. If this doesn't happen for you start at the top again and hit the pools until you get a ring.
-To make things go a bit faster I have already specced into 3/3 for Stormray making fishing those pools even faster. Since i now have a chance to fish up a barrel of fish - I sometimes have 3-4 casts before the barrel hits granting me even more chances to get a ring.

While fishing you may also find a "Soggy Drakescale". Use these if you get em but the timer is only 5 mins and the catch rate is not 100%. I consider this "fluff" to add a few extra AP.

I would definitely say you DO NEED level 800 in fishing to do this.. Didn't get any Luminous Pearl until I got 800 even after many many pools, but when I got to 800 I got the pearl in first cast !

It is not clear at all what you do once you get the baits required at the start, it said fish in pools but there was no mention that specific pools were required. Very frustrating to waste 2 baits

If you save up all the rare fish you collected while trying to get your , like me, don't it won't work. The text is not changed once you get the .

It still says:

After about 120 Highmountain Salmons and 150 Runescale Kois I'm pretty sure you NEED 800 skill in fishing. So go and fish some Ghostlys and don't waste time (like I did). Cheers!

So for me a good tip is to use the Brooch for ghostly queenfish or the Vrykul ring for artifact power both of these have 8min(unbuffed) timers and give you a pool to fish out of so you are guaranteed to catch that fish. I used 2 brooch's and caught 31 an 33 the other baits got me maybe 10 fish so these two are killer i remembered the ring from doing the ach earlier. I'd just buy the bait on the AH otherwise it may take a while. Also weird thing was while i fished up those queenfish I saw baits come up with the fish but never went in my bag, a toenail and a conch so can't explain that. Also goo to know where to fish the pool so you don't waste time.

*update 1/22 I am on my 2nd toon and bought a bunch or the Vrykul rings and I am averaging 18-20 it takes too long for the fish to bite! So if the brooch is equal in price go for that.

Hello guys. This is Ghnutoc of Stormscale. First of all I want to thank thideras for this really useful guide.

I got my fishing artifact some time ago and as I spent my time doing so, I was thinking of sharing some HINTS and TIPS on how to speed up your journey. So here they are:

1) If you find it difficult or impossible to reach the floating island where lives, just consider buying some 奥术鱼饵 from AH. They are quite cheap considering the time you need to spent on fishing 水之印记 or trying to find a way to jump to the island or falling in the ocean under Dalaran (even one fall is enough, believe me). As a hunter I used the 鹰羽 to fly there safely. I used 18 of them to complete the whole achievement.

2) NEVER EVER, fish outside a pool of fish. Dont do that to yourself please. The rate to catch a bait in plain water is extremely extremely low! Try to find lakes or rivers that have lots of fish schools and a high respawn rate. I ll give you some areas for every territory of the Broken Isles:

a. Suramar: Best option at the river round Irongrove Retreat (Begin at 24,28 and head east). Your second choice is the lake near Tel'Anor at 45,28.

b. Val'Sharah: The lake north of Starsong Refuge at 73,39

c. Highmountain: The lake at 33,63

d. Stormheim: The river north or south Dreadwake's Landing. Best option is to head south beginning at 56,70

e. Ocean : There is no particular spot, just be sure to ALWAYS fish in a Black Barracuda school

f. Azsuna: I didnt leave this territory last for no reason, but because I didnt find a spot to fish, quietly, without enemies and with a high number of fish pools near one another. If you find it, let us know please.

3) DONT USE your baits unless you have all 3 of them in a territory. Every bait is unique, so if you have it in your bag, you cant catch the same one, so you get one of the others. Beware though, cause you have to have it in your bags and not in your mailbox, bank or AH. Only bait you must use, as soon as you catch it is the 昏迷不醒的愤怒鲨鱼, cause it has a timer on it and after that you lose it.

4) Baits dont stack, so use one at a time, or you ll lose the first one you cast. Baits stack with 奥术鱼饵 so you can combine them at your will.

5) 水上行走药剂 or other water-walking means, like the 天蓝水黾, will speed up your journey.

I just started today gathering rare fish from the pools for artifact power. So far the ancient vrykul ring bait from Stormheim has yielded 17 Oodelfjisk. Also the stunned shark drops seabottom squid (5+). Have yet to test out the other baits.

I was stuck on getting the 夜明珠 as I did not have the 800 fishing requirement. I started fishing in pools all around Irongrove Retreat in Suramar and while leveling my fishing I was using 奥术鱼饵 and 超级鱼虫. By using both when I was at 600 fishing, I met the 800 requirement needed to fish up the 夜明珠. I hope this helps someone as I was confused at first on how to receive it.

Just wanted to add perhaps a small tip which I found it so far the easiest way to level your Fishing Artifact. You get defacto teleport, and of course first one is the blood fishing. Put first 3 in Highmountain Salmon Angling. I have found that you nearly always get procs to fish up a barrel and with a rare lure attached already you will get plenty of rare fish to level up fast. Next 5 put into Curse Queenfish, Surface Tension, and then Underlight Blessing. Next 2 in boots, then the way of the flounder. The reason for this is the schools for Highmountain in the lake which is right near the Sylvan Falls Waypoint is an excellent and in fact a great spot in my opinion. I am already getting ready to get my 10th trait unlocked. Only catch is .... the required amount of rares is starting to go up because of the AP needed. 50 per catch. Make sure you also have your Artifact equipped while fishing otherwise you wont get the AP fish needed. Rares turn in to AP rares.

I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned in the guide or comments, but just like every artifact, you get an additional boost for spending trait points on it.
For this one: Every trait point you spent on the artifact increases the duration of baits and lures by 8%.

The fastest way I've found to level the artifact is by fishing the 符鳞锦鲤 pools around the Irongrove Retreat flight point in Suramar. I just fished there for an hour and farmed 15,250 artifact power, which breaks down to an average of about 2,542 artifact power every 10 minutes. You will get the artifact power from a combination of 沉睡的鱼人 and either 食魔青蛙 or 被污染的符鳞锦鲤, depending which of the two lures you are using. A few notes about this method:

For those of you who don't know how to use 沉睡的鱼人, you will spawn a murloc who will run around dropping 符鳞锦鲤s, 银鲭鱼s, and most importantly around 10-15 幻脊河豚鱼s after you give it a good smack on the ass. I like to let it go on the bridge right next to the flight point, because I find it much easier to see the fish he drops up there as opposed to in the grass or water.
I did already have 幽光祝福, 表面张力, and all three levels of 符鳞锦鲤钓鱼术 unlocked when I recorded my results above. These make traveling between pools much faster and also allow me to occasionally fish the entire pool in a single cast, which makes the farming go much faster. If you don't have these traits unlocked yet, then you may be better off using erehwonlost's 2150 AP/10 min method listed as another comment in this guide.
I also farmed 563 符鳞锦鲤 and 196 银鲭鱼 during this hour, so that's an added perk if you need either of those fish for raid supplies. The amount of 银鲭鱼 you get will be highly dependent on how many 沉睡的鱼人s you get.
I kept 奥术鱼饵 up the entire hour, which you should be using anytime you're farming AP.

EDIT: I also wanted to add that I had 860 fishing skill when I did the test above (800 base skill + 60 from the artifact). I do not know whether using more lures or gear that boosts your skill level will help you catch rare fish faster.

I would also like to add that you can use the item 翡翠之风 to reach Margoss with ease. This may actually be an easier toy to acquire that does the exact same thing (except you get an extra boost/jump which you can use at your leisure).

My experience with Legion flying is the following:

It took me about 2 hours to get all the rare fish. Then I have spent all day and the tomorrow's day to acquire Luminuos Pearl without success because I did not have 800 skill in fishing. I have fished from over 200 different pools and could not get it.

As soon as I got 800 skill, I caught the pearl on second pool which leads me to the conclusion that you must have 800 skill in order to fish it.

My advice is to fish from fishing pools only if you have flying.

I haven't seen any macros on this page so I felt obligated to share mine! It's a one button macro that switches between and 诅咒之喉. This allows you to easily switch between your Angler/Artifact when you hop in/out of water/combat. It's also setup for when you hold Alt, it will cast fish.

ok Under the AP section, mentioning the amount of AP acquired (50 per rare fish) would have been good information and also that the rares have to be fished up with the pole equipped and the rare fish thrown back also with the pole equipped. (I ended up wasting 350 AP cause I didn't use the pole to fish them up.)

If you have Underlight Angler on one toon, 大鱼为重 will appear to have been granted account wide.

HOWEVER - That isn't actually the case. I tried and tried to fish up the pearl on an alt with no luck. Finally, I kept track of what rare fish that character fished up, until I got the last one. And with the last rare, guess what. That character got the achieve, and I was then able to get the pearl to start Underlight Angler quest.

Just a tip for everyone who is going to farm this-do the ach on the character you want the artifact on,as I did it on my main, she have the fishing rack etc extras,and I thought this will help,but I wanted the artifact fishing rod on my farming alt.Turned up you need the ach on every character you want the rod on,this ach is not shared. The only problem I see here is that when you are on another toon, the achievement Bigger Fish to Fry does not come up "blank" for your other toons. All it shows is the achievement that has been done by your other toon, if this makes sense. I can not find the undone achievement for this toon I am on. How do I tell which things I still have to get?

I've found the easiest way to get artifact power for the fishing pole is with the new fishing reputations in each zone in 7.3.

Wait until it is the day when the 'Fisherfriend' is in Suramar. Every time you kill the elemental boss, , that is summoned from fishing up a 闪亮鱼鳞, you get around 20 (or more) of the currency fish, 金色鲦鱼. Buy the 沉睡的鱼人 from her (which is 25 金色鲦鱼) and you should get a ton of fish that grant fishing pole artifact power just by chasing the Murloc and running over/picking up the 幻脊河豚鱼 it drops behind it.

Something to note is that if you are in a fishing raid group to speed up the process of making appear, other people in your raid can pick up the fish the Murloc drops. To avoid this, move to a secluded area quickly, pop the Murloc, gather the fish, then go back to the pond and repeat the process. I managed to get around 20-30 幻脊河豚鱼 a minute, as with a raid group the boss would be back up by the time I had finished chasing my Murloc and hopped back to the pond.

If you are going to do this from 1-800, start in your garrison from WoD. Do the opening quests for your Fishing Shack in the garrison in order to get 德拉诺钓鱼指南. It will open up your skill level from 1-700 so you can avoid having to visit the trainer every 75 skill points you obtain. The only other time you will have to visit the trainer is at 675-700 skill points to get the rest of the skill points opened up.

I understand you have questions about the Luminous Pearls.

The Luminous Pearl is a pretty rare drop, but you must have:
- Legion Fishing
- at least one slot available for a new quest (don't be maxed out on quests)
- have the achievement Bigger Fish to Fry completed (check!)
- Fishing skill at 800 (works with lures)
- level 110.

I also recommend resetting your UI, User Interface. But be sure not to add those Addons back before testing the game without them, as it is possible that one of the Addons can be affecting the game and the loot

The guide says that you don`t need 800 fishing .. I don`t know if it was a big coincidence or not but i`ve been fishing for a quest since 500 fishing and didn`t get it but as soon as i hit 800 fishing i got it in the second pond.

just to confirm i just got the luminous pearl and base fishing skill was below 800 but was above 800 with buffs.

I belive you need 800 fishing to get this item. Fished in 2nd pool after hitting Legion Fisherman achivement.

As an aside for 7.3.5: I was able to catch additional Oodelfjisk using the Highmountain tauren racial 艰苦朴素. This appears to be confirmation that the racial can proc for the rare fish as well!

by some reason tried to trow the fish in the water now, got the fishing rod. i see the character is jumping every time the fish land in the water, but still no artifact power? anyone else notice that, or have the same happen`t to them?

OK, so here is a question for all the Fisher Men/Women.

I just hit Point 24 in the Underlight Angler weapon/pole. Now it says next Artifact Trait in 105,300k, if I acccually grind that, where does the point go exactly? Because according to Weapon, there are no more point slots.

achieved 大鱼为重 got the artefact fishing rod.
so now i wonder if i have to complete 大鱼为重 on alt chars again to get it there too.

The Absolute Best Way to Gain Fishing Artifact Power :

When the Fisherfriend Sha'leth is up in Suramar get into a raid group via custom group finder, tag Magicus when he spawns from Glowing Fish Scale which will net you 20-50 Golden Minnows. Which is the currency for Sha'leth.

Then buy the Sleeping Murloc . Fly just north onto one of the pillars, and click it. Collect the Seerspine Puffer fish.

Rinse.

Repeat.

I burned through four Arcane Lures at 910 skill and got no bait, fishing in nodes (yes, none in bags etc). After using Worm Supreme they started coming in. Might be worth considering these mandatory.

Also, there is a "dead window" between finishing the leveling of fishing, and beginning progression on your Artifact power. During this period the rare fish you catch with the bait are vendor trash. They don't grant fishing skill, and they can't be used for Artifact Power. Every cast you spend within this window is therefore a drag on your progression. If you are cash rich, this is when to buy bait on the AH to knock off the rare catches needed for the Bigger Fish to Fry achievement.
