Rotation & Abilities
Survival Hunter Tier Set Bonuses
Tier 21 set:
Two piece bonus:
Flanking Strike has a 50% chance to increase the critical strike chance of your next Raptor Strike by 100% and the critical strike damage of Raptor Strike by 50% within the next 20 sec.
Four piece bonus:
Each cast of Mongoose Bite increases the damage of your next Raptor Strike by 20%. Stacks up to 6 times.
The buff from the 2 piece set bonus is the only part of your set bonus that will affect your rotation, for the most part. You will want to use a Raptor Strike to take advantage of that buff before casting another Flanking Strike. Through the natural course of your rotation, this will allow some of your Raptor Strikes to also benefit from the 4 piece set bonus's buff, but you shouldn't necessarily save Raptor Strikes while you're trying to build up stacks of the 4 piece buff.
Recommended Survival Hunter Gear
Because of the possibility to get gear that is Titanforged, Warforged, has a socket, or some combination of the three, there's no sense in calling anything a BiS list. Furthermore, if you've been unlucky with Legendaries, you might need to completely re-evaluate which 4 of the 6 possible tier set pieces you'll be able to use. As agility is more valuable than any secondary stat, and no secondary stat is significantly better than any other secondary stat, you can generally go for the highest ilvl increase during progression.
If you're also playing Marksmanship, or Beast Mastery, you may find it helpful to seek more mastery on your gear, as those specs hurt severely without lots of mastery; though it may be best to start collecting a second set of gear, at least in some slots, to balance out the different needs. It's also possible to select your talents based on what stats you have on your gear, as some talents will benefit more from different stats.
Legendaries & How they affect each rotation
The most powerful legendary item you can get your hands on is
, by a long shot.
provides a strong option for a second legendary on AoE fights if you don't have good trinkets, otherwise
is the best AoE second legendary, providing a huge DPS boost for both sustained AoE and burst AoE/add waves.
tend to be the best second choice for single target fights for their stat boosts.
- These bracers allow you to use
every 60 seconds (or even less, depending on your artifact progress). This means you can have
up for every second salve of
s. Paired with Fury of the Eagle and the Aspect of the Skylord artifact trait, this item makes for a very powerful DPS increase. Additionally, the cooldowns of both
are also cut in half. Definitely the most powerful Legendary you can get your hands on.
- Allows you to have the
debuff on multiple enemies. This is a good choice for cleave fights, but doesn't increase your
damage quite as much as you might expect.
- Useful when single-target burst is required on newly spawning enemies, but very underwhelming in most cases. A strong, but situational Legendary.
- Decent increase in Focus gain. If you're running into Focus issues while using
, these boots can help a bit.
- A strong defensive legendary with lots of three great stats for us. Not a first choice, but decent if you don't have anything better, or if your group is struggling with healing.
- Strong self-heal for encounters where you do not have to move a lot. Given the fact that Survival is a melee specialization, the buff from these legs probably won't have a great uptime.
- With the increased stats in patch 7.2, this can be a decent legendary if you don't have better options, but requires raid planning to make sure you can get enough interrupts to take advantage of the proc.
- Grants you a nice self heal on a short cooldown.
- Good stats and a strong on-use damaging ability.
- Very strong AoE buff that feels good, in that it rewards you for performing your rotation well. This is the top choice for AoE fights with a priority target, and is a fairly good choice on nearly all fights in Nighthold.
- Crafted legendary gloves. The legendary ability on these isn't going to provide much of any gain for instance PvE content. However, these have good stats, and the three gem slots lets you customize the stats, or just pile on more Haste.
- Grants you the talent
, allowing you to take another talent from that tier in addition.
Gain 10% increased Critical Strike chance against enemies burning from your
New Legendaries in Patch 7.3.2
- Tons of stats, plus your spells and abilities have a chance to grant you 2200 Speed, Avoidance, and Leech for 12 sec.
- Increase the effects of Light and Shadow powers granted by the Netherlight Crucible by 50%.
Finding Gear on Wowhead
From simple recommendations to advanced filters, Wowhead can help you find the gear you want.
is a great way to search for gear if you are new to Wowhead's filtering system.
Choose what item category, gear slot, and class specialization you're interested in, and it will return results for you. You can further narrow it down by source--including gear from LFR and heroic dungeons.
You can find the Item Finder via Tools > Item Finder or Database > Items > Item Finder.
returns personalized gear suggestions for you and shows which content has the most upgrades.
Simply load up the
with you preferred character and it will list gear recommendations in a 20 ilvl range for you. It will also list how many gear upgrades each boss has so you can plan out bonus rolls. Finally, the character planner will perform an audit and let you know if you have any missing enchants, glyphs, or gems.
If you have a character in our
which is great for tracking vanity collections and viewing your character in our 3D modelviewer, you can click on the "Planner" button in the header to access the tool. If you don't, you can just enter your information in at Tools > Character Planner.
Wowhead utilizes a powerful system of item filters to narrow down the gear you need.
, you can enter in some basic options at the top--the name of the item, its item level, the level the players needs to be. The "Usable by" dropdowns cover factions, class, and role.
The dropdown menu right above "Stat Weights" opens to display a variety of advanced options. These cover the following:
General item info such as Added in Expansion/Patch, BoE/BoP, Unique-Equipped, Class-Specific.
Stats: All primary stats, secondary stats, defensive stats, and weapon stats.
Source: All in-game sources, ranging from raid difficulties to the Black Market Auction House to sold by a vendor.
Miscellaneous: Many of these filters are not relevant to equippable gear such as Crafting Reagents and Toys, but you can filter for items that are currently obtainable.
Once you've selected a filter from the menu, click on Apply filter for search results. You can repeat the process to filter for multiple criteria at once--for example, Agility gear that is found in Mythic Foundry.
Over on the right-hand side of the page, you can select a particular Gear Slot or Quality to narrow results even further.
Finally, you can quickly view a subset of items at once using the Database Menus. Head to Database > Items and mouseover the Weapon and Armor options for quick links to gear arranged by armor type and slot.
