Skills like
Crusader Aura
and
On a Pale Horse
will increase your mount speed.
What 20% increase in speed means as an increase in overall movement speed:
Epic Flying Mount +76%
Flying Mount +32%
Epic Mount +40%
Mount +32%
These values are calculated because movement speed is set at 100%. You add the mount speed, and then multiply by 1.20.
x (1.20)= New speed

Items like

Whats going to be the next lvl of riding and how much is it going to cost. I'v heard some real harsh numbers like Flying in Azeroth, 25K, 16K with rep reduction. and then possibly and hole new lvl of riding on top of that. Scary.

The 310% speed training also affects your 150% speed mounts, making them go 310%.

Farming a 310% mount will no longer give you the ability to fly at that speed. The mount will fly at 280% until you purchase Mastery Riding for 5000g.
The only exception to this is the Violet Proto Drake, which will still award Master riding for free.
As a personal opinion - farming achievements for a year is significantly more time than it would take just to farm an extra 5000g in the first place. The Violet Drake has been excepted because of people who may be in the middle of that achievement as of patch day, and not as a method of getting it for free.

As of patch 4.0.1, cold weather flying can now be learned at 68, the tome doesn't exist anymore, and it only costs 500G

Since 4.0.1, you don't need to buy epic mount anymore (ex. Ochre Skeletal Warhorse) as Journeyman Riding allows you to ride with 100% increased speed on those "weaker" mounts (ex. You've got Black Skeletal Horse, you get Journeyman Riding, it's as fast as epic mounts)

Yes I thought so too, until I realized how much money I was earning from the Hyjal quests and selling the soulbound drops I was growing out of so fast.
Entered Hyjal with 33g. Left Hyjal with 2349g. And this was BEFORE I hit the AH with all the skins, herbs and embersilk I'd accumulated.

I remember back in the day when it was considered a status symbol to have an epic ground mount, one which went 100% faster; it was actually hard to farm 1,000+ gold then.
But now...

Is that right? It used to be 250, but now I have to make 4000G?

Using the mage
blink
ability, you can find out how fast a character runs. Blink forward 5 times (100 yards), then time how long it takes to run those 100 yards. With this information, you can find out that a hero on Azeroth runs at about 14.46 mph. Using this, you can find out some pretty cool things, such as how fast you're moving with various speed buffs:
Normal running speed: 100% (14.46 mph)
Walking speed: 40% (5.784 mph)
Aspect of the Cheetah: 130% (18.798 mph)
Cheetah form: 140% (20.244 mph)
Ground normal mount: 160% (23.136 mph)
Normal flying mount running: 160%
Normal Flying mount flying: 160% 76,40,32
160% +
Crusader Aura
/
On a Pale Horse
: 192% (27.7362 mph)
Ground epic mount: 200% (28.92 mph)
Epic flying mount running: 200%
200% + CA/OPH: 240% (34.704 mph)
Epic flying mount flying: 380% (54.948 mph)
Epic elite flying mount: 410% (59.286 mph)
380% + CA/OPH: 456% (65.9376 mph)
Epic elite flying mount + CA/OPH: 492% (71.1432 mph)
Flight Master: 500% (72.3 mph)
On a side note, someone else did the maths with this and found out that if Azeroth was perfectly to scale, Kalimdor would be roughly 60.1 square miles. Which is why you have to use your imagination to act like it's actually bigger than a mid-size American city.

With MoP, all mounts are account-bound and mount speed is based upon skill. Previously mounts had specific max speeds and could not be obtained until riding level matched that speed. Now, you must have the skill to match the speed to train them, but if another character on your account has added them, you may ride them at a speed determined by your riding skill level.
100% is the speed at which an unbuffed character runs.

you gain these abilities:
Enables the capture and training of special mounts on Draenor. Also allows you remain mounted while interacting with objects in outdoor Draenor zones.
These abilities are in your Spellbook & Abilities Frame under the Spellbook tab (bottom) and General tab (top right). As you search through you will find
银元俱乐部
.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you upgrade to
Stables (Level 2)
you gain an additional ability:
You will no longer get dazed by enemies while riding mounts in outdoor Draenor zones.
And the spell listed in your Spellbook is
龙骑兵
.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you upgrade your
Stables (Level 3)
you gain an additional ability:
Increases mount speed in Draenor by 20%.
And the spell listed in your Spellbook is
斥候大师
.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
MOVEMENT SPEED
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hear discussions and talk of whether or not this speed buff stacks with others, and I realize that they, like me, did not notice the one of most incredibly important Patch Notes for the expansion. Everyone is up in arms over flying in Draenor, and no one has even realized how slowly they are riding in Draenor.
The NEW approach to "Movement Speed" (Speed Buffs) is a terrible NERF that I have noticed and wondered about for weeks. It never made sense to me until I read the LAST section of:
The Iron Tide: 6.0.2 Patch Notes
(
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/15682579#movement_speed
)
Take for instance a character that had a racial or class speed buff of
5%
(the two that come to mind are much more robust
十字军光环
/
死神降临
),
a guild perk speed buff (
骑乘加速
- all guilds have it today) of
10%
,
and let's add the
Stables (Level 3)
buff of
斥候大师
which equals
20%
.
So we'll use three buffs -
5%
,
10%
, and
20%
(
for this example we will consider them all to be stackable
).
Much of the confusion lies in the fact that speed is measure in percent of normal running speed. Walking speed is 40% and when adjusted for in-game distance it is equivalent to 5.784 mph and running of course would be 100% and 14.46 mph.
The Maximums are:
An unbuffed character
Running@100%
(14.46 mph),
中级骑术
allows
Riding@200%
(28.92 mph),
and
大师级骑术
allows
Flying@410%
(59.29 mph) .
------------------------------- MoP --------------------------------------
In Mist of Pandaria (MoP) speed buffs would be calculated multipicatively against the base speed then added to that speed so:
Running:
100% x .05 (05%) = +05%
100% x .10 (10%) = +10%
100% x .20 (20%) = +20%
100% + 05% + 10% (Stables buff is only mounted) =
115%
(16.63mph)
Riding:
200% x .05 (05%) = +10%
200% x .10 (10%) = +20%
200% x .20 (20%) = +40%
200% + 10% + 20% + 40% =
270%
(39.04mph)
Flying:
410% x .05 (05%) = +20.5%
410% x .10 (10%) = +41.0%
410% x .20 (20%) = +82.0%
410% + 20.5% + 41.0% + 82.0% =
553.5%
(80.04mph)
------------------------------- WoD --------------------------------------
Today speed buffs would be calculated additively and only the highest speed buff is used:
Running:
100% + 05% = 105%
100% + 10% = 110%
100% + 20% = 120%
The highest buff is +110% (Stables buff is only mounted)
110%
(15.91mph) ===>
-5%
(-0.72mph) in speed from MoP.
Riding:
200% + 05% = 205%
200% + 10% = 210%
200% + 20% = 220%
The highest buff is +220%
220%
(31.81mph) ===>
-50%
(-7.23mph) in speed from MoP.
If they ever let us fly again.
They have at least slowed it down.
Be certain that even the folks from Irvine can handle it.
Flying:
200% + 05% = 415%
200% + 10% = 420%
200% + 20% = 430%
The highest buff is +430%
430%
(62.18mph) ===>
-123.5%
(-17.86mph) in speed from MoP.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In
MoP
, I was flying along at
451%
with
骑乘加速
(410% x 1.1 = 451%)
today in
WoD
I am flying along at
420%
with
骑乘加速
(410% + 10% = 420%)
Just think, by the time they give us flying our max speed may be 250% ... just to make sure folks living in Irvine can keep up.
(By the way, Irvine is a city built in the valley where I was born and raised. A population in that valley of 3k is now 3Mil. I am "Old and Slow".)

This is more of a question than a comment. I was leveling my first horde character, when all my main characters were on alliance on another server. I leveled mostly through dungeons, and hit level 71 at the end of the Gundrak dungeon. As soon as I *dinged* I got the achievements "Fast and Furious" and "Into the Wild Blue Yonder". I hadn't yet bought those levels of mount speed, but as soon as I hit 71, they were just... given to me. Anyone know why?

Super Random Tip
If you are rerolling to a new realm, but have access to 120 zones due to allied races, just start fishing in Zandalar for grey items to get the 50 gold for your level 40 mount, doesn't take very long to grab enough. Get anywhere from 2-3 gold per grey item
Only useful if you're like me and just do pet battles + PvP to level, so basically no way to earn gold. Or just sell a pet on the new realm I guess, but that might sit for a while.

This page has not yet been updated for Shadowlands. For example, Artisan Riding is no longer in-game (though, if characters purchased it before it was removed, they retained their skill) and you can ride mounts as low as level 10 now. For the Shadowlands updates, see this guide:

As of patch 10.1.5 you are granted riding skills for reaching a specific level, so this page should be updated:
Characters now learn the appropriate mount riding skill upon reaching the appropriate level without needing to visit a mount trainer.
Level 10 - Apprentice Riding
Level 20 - Journeyman Riding
Level 30 - Expert Riding
Level 40 - Master Riding
