Shadowmourne
is a legendary two-handed axe which is obtained through an arduous quest line available to
Death Knights
,
Paladins
, and
Warriors
. This guide will walk the player through the necessary tasks and quests in order to obtain the legendary axe.
The axe and
quest chain
were added in Patch 3.3.0 at the same time the
Icecrown Citadel
raiding instance was added. Most of the quest must be completed in the 25-man instance, and can be completed in both normal and heroic boss encounters. The difficulty of obtaining the axe is still significant despite the increase in player and item stat level increases that have been implemented since it became available. This is mostly due to the weekly raid lockout, but there are still several quests that require difficult timings, or mechanics that are still difficult to accomplish in a raid setting. Additionally, the increased damage that most raids are capable of putting out now is far beyond that for which the encounters were designed, which can also hamper quest completion on fights requiring a certain number of events to occur. Still, the reward of the legendary axe is still worth the effort for those players who put forth the effort to obtain it.
Shadowmourne Lore & History
Before beginning his reign as the Lich King, Prince Arthas Menethil was first a servant, ruled by a sword he believed was the key to saving his people - the runeblade Frostmourne. Finding and claiming the blade among the frozen wastes of Northrend was an odyssey unto itself, and the search cost the prince his mentor, his relationship with his subjects, and his humanity. It cost the living of Azeroth far more.
With a tight grip on the blade that he traded his life for, Arthas ravaged the kingdom of Lordaeron and broke free from the control of the Burning Legion. By the time the former prince ascended as the leader of the Scourge, Frostmourne was already glutted with the souls of the numberless dead who dared to oppose him.
Now, Arthas has become so inseparable from his weapon that the sword's likeness has even found its way into the architecture of his fortress,
Icecrown Citadel
. Its hilt is never far from his hands; its ghostly whispers constantly ring in his ears. Frostmourne, as much as the Lich King, is the ruler of Northrend.
To challenge that rule, mighty heroes will need to follow more closely in Arthas's path than ever before.
In a relentless quest to arm the forces of the living against the Scourge, Darion Mograine has formed the Ashen Verdict, a union between the most skilled craftsmen of the Argent Crusade and the Ebon Blade. Though the peerless paladins of the Crusade wield the power of the Light, and their leader clutches Ashbringer, a few of Mograine's dark warriors have begun to question their hopes for victory.
These death knights insist that the Ashbringer and the skills of the Argent Crusaders, though potent, aren't enough to best Frostmourne alone. They swear that Darion Mograine has long been quietly aware of another legendary blade - one that could be the key to defeating the Lich King and cleansing Northrend... But it doesn't exist yet.
For the moment, the weapon is a formless idea, with no more killing power than an angry thought. When it is spoken of, it is spoken of quietly, and the Highlord has a habit of silencing those who discuss it in public.
But the hope of an artifact to rival Frostmourne is strong within the minds of the Ebon Blade. Just its name inspires the furnaces to burn late into the night, the bellows to pump air, and the darker half of the Verdict's smiths to swing their hammers until their fingers fail. While other craftsmen crafters lean over whetstones and gather pitted blades by the hundreds, these few dream of a single weapon to end the war for Northrend.
Shadowmourne... A great two-handed axe fit for a giant, born of sacred and corrupt powers, host of a thousand dead souls and able to be wielded only by the most stalwart armsmasters of Azeroth. Its creation seems nearly impossible; and yet, the rumors do not cease.
Some smiths claim that Shadowmourne must be nothing more than an ordinary axe, honed to unparalleled perfection, while others would shape it from a weapon of immense import in the world. Mograine, when he can be convinced to speak of it at all, is said to believe that only the hammer of Arthas himself will provide a worthy model - but such absurd ambition is just the beginning of Shadowmourne's creation.
To contain the energies that dance across its cold edges, Shadowmourne must be hewn from piles of impure Saronite: the hardened blood of the Old God, Yogg-Saron, treated only by master metal-shapers.
To fuel its power to kill, it is vital that Shadowmourne be drenched in the souls of the most potent servants of the Scourge as they are slain, one by one, with the unfinished blade.
To help break through the Lich King's armor, Shadowmourne is to be adorned with fragments of the Frozen Throne, originally crafted by Kil'Jaeden out of ice from the Twisting Nether.
Only with these mighty components, it's said, can Shadowmourne be finished. And, yet, even if the axe could be completed, questions and fears remain. Is forging the souls of the deceased into a weapon treated with blood and the essence of the Twisting Nether truly any different from the crafting of the Scourge's runeblades?
Who is to say that the Lich King wouldn't simply annihilate - or control - the maker for their impudence in mimicking his most treasured possession? If Arthas, one of the most dedicated knights of his age, lost his humanity to the whispers of Frostmourne, might Shadowmourne bring the same doom and misery tothe living as its sister blade?
Without knowing the answers to these questions, who would be bold enough to try and wield it?
From the official Shadowmourne preview
Forging Shadowmourne
To begin the quest chain to obtain
Shadowmourne
,
Death Knights
,
Paladins
, and
Warriors
must reach friendly reputation with
The Ashen Verdict
. Once the character has reached friendly
Highlord Darion Mograine
(in
Icecrown Citadel
) will offer
The Sacred and the Corrupt
:
It is against my judgment that I present you this errand, <race>, as it will likely end in your undoing.
Ignore my counsel and embark on the endeavor, and I shall provide you with the knowledge and resources to see it through.
You must return to Frostmourne Cavern and recover Light's Vengeance, Arthas' discarded hammer. Reforged with saronite and etched with the acidic blood of the Lich King's abominations, it will provide the foundation for our work.
To obtain
Light's Vengeance
, the hammer that Arthas discarded upon taking up
Frostmourne
during the Warcraft III campaign, the player must travel to Northeastern Dargonblight. The hammer is located within the aptly named
Frostmourne Cavern
which is within the Scarlet Onslaught controlled territory along the mountains West of Light's Trust. Entering the cavern will trigger a cut scene:
As the player approaches the dais in Frostmourne Cavern, they are suddenly frozen. The Lich King approaches from the darkness. He stops, standing next to the hammer he wielded so long ago...
The Lich King says: So predictable...
The Lich King says: Did you truly expect to fulfil Mograine's task unopposed?
The Lich King knocks Light's Vengeance across the cavern.
The Lich King says: You shall both suffer as his father does...
The Lich King raises hordes of the undead throughout the chamber.
The Lich King says: ...in eternal unrest!
The Lich King says: Die well, fool.
A vrykul will appear near the dais and begin summon masses of ghouls. To the player's right (as they face the dais) a pillar of light will appear showing the location of
Light's Vengeance
. The player must make their way to the mace, and then use it while avoiding attacks by the increasingly large mass of ghouls, which will interrupt the activation timer. The player must use whatever abilities they can to kill and/or slow the ghouls long enough to activate the mace. Once the mace is activated it will fly at the vrykul, annihilating any ghouls in its way and killing the vrykul. The player should take a moment to restore their HP/Mana before looting the hammer, as doing so causes the vrykul to resurrect as an elite skeleton that must be defeated before the player can leave the cavern. The fight is fairly straightforward and easily soloed by any player properly geared for
Icecrown Citadel
, it is possible to bring a healer along if the player isn't able to solo the skeleton.
This was the easy part of the quest.
The other objects necessary to complete the quest include
Festergut's Acidic Blood
,
Rotface's Acidic Blood
, and 25
Primordial Saronite
. Each blood will only drop once per kill per boss, so if there are two or more people on this quest they must decide who will obtain the blood or set of bloods. The saronite is fairly easy to obtain from ICC bosses, the auction house, or they can be purchased from any
Legacy Justice Quartermaster
for 266
Justice points
.
When the player has acquired all of the necessary items the quest can be turned in at the runeforge next to
Highlord Darion Mograine
near the entrance inside ICC. Upon completing the quest:
Highlord Darion Mograine says: So, it has begun...
Darion approaches his runeforge, and casts a spell to combine the items to create Shadow's Edge
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Behold! The binding of sacred and corrupt: the forging of Shadow's Edge, a weapon of untold potential!
Darion returns to his post. A powerful blue flame roars in Darion's runforge, as Shadow's Edge floats into Darion's hands.
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Bend it to your will, and you shall wield unstoppable power!
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Fail, and your soul shall forever be its slave.
After completing The Sacred and the Corrupt
Highlord Darion Mograine
offers the player the second quest: Shadow's Edge:
Listen well, <class>. In accepting this weapon your fate is sealed.
Overcome or succumb.
I have placed your feet upon this path. You are therefore my personal responsibility. Should you falter, I am duty-bound to deliver you from this life.
Remember my words, <class>, and do not fail.
The Highlord presents the player with
Shadow's Edge
, completing the second quest in the chain.
After presenting the player with
Shadow's Edge
Highlord Darion Mograine
begins the
next stage
with a question:
Shadow's Edge is among the greatest weapons a <class> could hope to obtain.
Is your lust for power sated, <race>?
<You feel Mograine's penetrating gaze.>
I thought not. A final warning then...
You now embark on the most treacherous leg of your quest. Bridle your aspirations, for if your aims are impure then your life, your very soul, is forfeit.
The weapon you hold is but an empty husk, a mere shadow of what it may become.
In order to devour the fifty souls necessary to complete the quest the player must have
Shadow's Edge
equipped while damaging a mob. Auto-attacks do count towards the quest, but meleeing mobs can be tedious. For this reason
Death Knights
will often use blood boil or howling blast,
Warriors
will use thunderclap, and
Paladins
use consecration or holy wrath to tag mobs quickly. The animation of
Shadow's Edge
absorbing souls is quite distinct and interesting, especially if a mob manages to get far away from the player before dying. A full clear of ICC will provide approximately 200 souls, plenty of opportunity for the player to complete the quest.
From this point onwards in the quest chain players will occasionally receive whispers from
The Lich King
encouraging or taunting the player:
The Lich King whispers: Take them, mortal. These souls will again be mine, soon enough.
The Lich King whispers: Soon, mortal, you too shall have a blade for a prison.
The Lich King whispers: Remember hero: I, too, once sought a weapon of great power...
The Lich King whispers: I see you too are gathering souls for your own ends. Are we really so different, champion?
The Lich King whispers: Yes, do it! Create your monstrous new weapon. It too will serve me when your soul is mine!
The Lich King whispers: Bring me your weapon, champion, that I might feed it the soul of its master.
The Lich King whispers: Look at you, child, would-be wielder of souls! You cannot fathom the power that lies at my command!
The Lich King whispers: Come to me, pretender! Feed MY blade!
The Lich King whispers: My challenges have strengthened you, champion! You shall serve me well!
The Lich King whispers: Never have I had cause to regret sparing your life, mortal. Always, you find ways to amuse me.
The Lich King whispers: The moment is soon at hand, mortal. You shall toil for eternity in a new Azeroth!
The Lich King whispers: More souls, yes, more! You shall find it hard to stop.
The Lich King whispers: The hunger your weapon feels is but a shade of what awaits. Do you want to see real hunger? Real power? Continue onward, hero! I am waiting.
The Lich King whispers: You stumble about in darkness. There is no light here. No mercy. Icecrown has claimed the souls of better heroes than you.
The Lich King whispers: Your heart... its incessant drumming disgusts me. I will silence it, as I did my own.
Returning to the Highlord with the now soul-filled
Shadow's Edge
:
<Highlord Mograine eyes you in silence for a moment.>
You seem to have endured this leg of your trial admirably, <race>.
Pray that fate continues to smile upon you in your endeavor...
Once you've fed
Shadow's Edge
its fifty souls, and been uncomfortably stared at by Highlord Mograine he tells you your
next task
:
Before your weapon can reach its full potential it must be endowed with its signature powers. First among them is unholiness.
You must seek out and defeat the one called Professor Putricide, but his death is not your only goal. You must use his resources against him.
Find a way to absorb his mutated slime. Use the foul substance to infuse your weapon with the power of the unholy. Only when this has been done shall I reveal your next task.
This phase of the quest chain (imbuing
Shadow's Edge
) is one of the most difficult part of the quest chain as it requires careful timing and use of more complicated encounter mechanics to give the axe the proper infusion. This quest requires careful timing and experience with the
Professor Putricide
encounter. As always the player
must
have
Shadow's Edge
equipped in order to complete the quest. The player must perform the role of abomination during the fight. At the pull the player runs to Purticide's table and uses it, drinking one of his concoctions, and turning into an abomination. Players on this quest will see a new ability on the abomination's toolbar called "
Shadow Infusion
". This ability requires that the player drink enough ooze pools to increase their energy to one hundred which takes about a minute to obtain. Of note:
Shadow Infusion
has a four second cast time during which the abomination cannot be interrupted or moved, player's should watch out for Putricide's room-wide stun ability,
Tear Gas
, and make sure to cast the infusion again if interrupted. Using the ability places a six minute buff on the player, during which time Professor Putricide must be defeated in order to complete the quest.
Upon returning with the newly infused
Shadow's Edge
Highlord Darion Mograine
says:
Well done, <class>.
The completion of our work draws near.
After infusing
Shadow's Edge
with unholiness
Highlord Darion Mograine
provides the player with the
next challenge
:
Your weapon is now prepared to be endowed with the power of blood.
You must face Blood-Queen Lana'thel in battle and subject yourself to her Blood Mirror. This power will cause Shadow's Edge to drink the blood of the nearest living being. That being would be you, <race>.
Once the blade's thirst is quenched, give the queen an ignominious death.
May her screams pierce the ears of the Lich King as he awaits his fate.
For players who are attempting to complete this quest after the release of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm this will be the most difficult part of the quest chain due to the mechanics of the
Blood-Queen Lana'thel
encounter. It is also the most confusing of the quests in the chain. The player should ensure that
Shadow's Edge
is equipped before beginning the Blood-Queen fight. The player should also not tank on this fight, as it makes biting other difficult as well as causing additional damage from the fights mechanics.
On the pull the player should follow the tank closely, ensuring that they get the
Blood Mirror
debuff, which causes the nearest player to the tank to share half the damage inflicted on the tank. The player does not need to keep this buff for any length of time, only obtain it, so typically the player will get the buff and then immediately move out to allow the offtank to take over the
Blood Mirror
debuff. Obtaining the
Blood Mirror
debuff gives the player on the quest an additional debuff (which doesn't go away) called
Gushing Wound
.
Gushing Wound
does ≈1500 damage to the player per second and reduces the damage the player does by ten percent. This damage reduction makes the next step more difficult, though certainly not impossible. The player should attempt to maintain a lead on the DPS charts as Lana'thel typically favors the top DPS'er for her
Essence of the Blood Queen
debuff (also known as her "bite"). In an ideal situation the quester would receive this debuff first, though it is entirely possible to complete the quest if they are second bitten. Once bitten the player waits the full sixty seconds for the debuff to run out and convert to
Frenzied Bloodthirst
, then uses
Vampiric Bite
on another player. Biting another player increases the number of stacks of
Gushing Wound
the player has, increasing the damage the debuff does and getting the player closer to completing their quest. The player must use bite
three
times, and then defeat
Blood-Queen Lana'thel
in order to complete the quest.
While there is no time limit on the quest, it does become difficult to complete if the player is not the first person bitten. In the post-WotLK WoW it will be quite difficult for the player, who is wielding a lvl 80 weapon, to maintain a DPS lead on the rest of the raid. If the raid is complicit with the player they might be relied on to hold their DPS until the player is bitten first. Another common tactic is to have whoever is bitten first bite the player as soon as they are able and then simply die to make biting others later on in the fight easier. Another important point is that the fight must actually last
long enough for the player to bite three people
. This is very difficult in post-WotLK since players do exponentially more damage than they did at lvl 80. The raid must hold back their damage until the player gets their third bite off and then finish Lana'thel. If the player is the first person bitten this can be accomplished on the fourth bite phase, or when there are four players who need to bite others. In a ten man raid if the player is the second bitten, then the first bitten player
MUST
die before the second bite phase or the quester will not be able to complete three bites before there are more bitten players than players who can be bitten. In a twenty-five man raid that is capable of coordinating eight bites, the first player can be allowed to live, though it is still recommended to let them die, as missing one lvl 85+ player is easier to manage than getting eight people to find eight non-bitten players.
Bite options for questing players, better options in blue, worst options in red:
10-man, quester bitten first:
1->2->4->8
25-man, quester bitten first:
1->2->4->8 (This will be difficult as it is unlikely the quester will be first bitten)
10-man, quester bitten second:
1->2->4->8->16 (impossible, wipe)
10-man, quester bitten second, first bite suicides:
1->1->2->4->8(difficult, but possible since there are 9 players in the raid)
25-man, quester bitten second:
1->2->4->8->16 (difficult, but possible with a coordinated group of 8 bitees)
25-man, quester bitten second, first bite suicides:
1->1->2->4->8 (recommended, 4 bites are easier to coordinate than 8)
When the player has taken down
Blood-Queen Lana'thel
, a non-plussed
Highlord Darion Mograine
will say:
Well done, <class>.
Shadowmourne is nearly within reach.
After infusing
Shadow's Edge
with blood from the player's fellow raiders the Highlord insists on completion of the
next infusion
:
Shadow's Edge is prepared to receive its final infusion of power.
Sindragosa, the enemy's own mount, must fall. But before she is brought down, you must sustain four of her frozen breath attacks without tasting death.
Without his dragon, nothing shall stand between you and the Lich King.
This is the easiest of all the quests in the chain as the player simply stands in front of
Sindragosa
for four
Frost Breaths
. Each breath will give the player a stack of
Frost Infusion
. On the fourth breath
Frost Infusion
will convert to
Frost-Imbued Blade
, a six minute debuff. Defeat
Sindragosa
within those six minutes to complete the quest. The most difficult part of this quest post-WotLK is getting the DPS in your raid to hold back long enough for you to get your four breaths. The breath damage can be mitigated through normal defensive anti-magic abilities as well as by equipping frost resist gear, though post-WotLK the damage is easily managed by healers. She breathes during the entire fight, though she does more damage when she's under 35%.
Highlord Darion Mograine
, upon completion, states:
The axe has drunk its fill, <race>, and the forge is nearly ready for the creation of Shadowmourne.
After imbuing
Shadow's Edge
with unholiness, blood, and frost,
Highlord Darion Mograine
demands:
The Lich King's throne once served as his prison. Kil'jaeden himself crafted the vessel of icy crystals from the twisting nether, its sole purpose to hold Ner'zhul's vengeful spirit.
When Arthas struck the crystal with Frostmourne, he released Ner'zhul's soul, allowing it to merge with his own. Splinters from that impact are now scattered throughout the citadel.
I shall require those shards, held only by the Lich King's most powerful servants, to seal the power contained in your blade.
FIFTY
of them.
Shadowfrost Shards
, as they're called, drop from all of the bosses within ICC. This is the most time-consuming
quest in the chain
. The shards are not a guaranteed drop from the bosses. On normal mode they have a twenty-five to fifty percent chance of dropping, and on heroic they have a fifty-one to one-hundred percent chance of dropping. If the player can possibly do a fight on heroic it is highly recommended that they do so, as it dramatically increases the chance of obtaining a shard. There are twelve bosses in ICC, so even with a one-hundred percent drop rate it would take five raid lockouts to complete this quest. Questers should expect to spend several months collecting the shards necessary to continue. Unlike the other quests in the chain it is not necessary that
Shadow's Edge
be equipped during the fight in order to obtain a shard, it must be in your bags, however. Lastly, the shards
only drop in 25-man ICC, they
do not drop in 10-man ICC!
After spending months on the RP-impossibility of killing the same bosses more than eight times, Mograine gives you the brush-off with:
These should suffice, <class>.
Speak to me when Shadow's Edge has been thoroughly empowered and I will attempt its completion.
The player hands over
Shadow's Edge
, for the last time, and a short RP moment where Mograine forges
Shadowmourne
commences:
Highlord Darion Mograine says: It is complete.
Darion approaches his runeforge, and places Shadow's Edge inside.
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Where most would falter, you have overcome.
As Darion steps away, a blue flame emerges again from his runeforge.
Highlord Darion Mograine says: You have withstood the torment of the Lich King himself, and now Shadowmourne is yours.
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Go now...
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Wield this mighty weapon and direct the souls that empower it.
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Go forth, and defeat the Prince of Darkness.
At this point
the player has obtained all of the necessary items, and completed all of the necessary steps in order to forge
Shadowmourne
. The player has handed over
Shadow's Edge
to
Highlord Darion Mograine
, who has forged Shadowmourne, who says, handing over the newly completed
Shadowmourne
:
Congratulations, <class>.
Against insurmountable odds, you have weathered the storm.
I trust that you shall find your reward proportionate to your conviction...
Congratulations <player> on the brand new
Shadowmourne
. In the event that you have somehow avoided reaching exalted with
The Ashen Verdict
completion of this quest will award you with 300,000 reputation, immediately moving you to exalted. There is only one final task left for owners of Shadowmourne: Defeat
The Lich King
.
After Forging Shadmourne
After forging
Shadowmourne
Highlord Darion Mograine
asks the player to
finish the job
and defeat
The Lich King
:
Shadowmourne; a newly forged weapon already steeped in this world's history, reborn into an unrivaled destiny.
With this weapon you bear a solemn responsibility, and the time to carry out that charge is at hand.
Take this weapon of myth and legend and march on the enemy. Avenge the countless heroes lost in his merciless campaign. Bring rest to their tortured souls.
Steel yourself, <class>, and guide Shadowmourne to fulfill the purpose of its creation.
Defeat
The Lich King
and complete the quest. Fairly simple procedure in the post-WotLK World of Warcraft. As a new owner of Shadowmourne, however, Arthas will drop an added piece of loot called a
Sealed Chest
. The chest begins another short chain of
quests
with some very excellent rewards.
You can detect no hinges or openings on this box. Were it not for the shifting of items inside, it could easily be mistaken for solid metal.
If anyone could know the method of its opening, it would be Highlord Mograine.
Starting the quest from the Sealed Chest begins a new, short quest chain for the spoils from Arthas' secret stash. This first quest asks you to take the chest to Highlord Mograine:
<After tracing a complex pattern of runes on each of the box's surfaces, the outline of a lid appears and a click echoes through the chamber.>
Here you are, <race>.
Personal Property (Spoilers Inside)
Contained within the now
Unsealed Chest
are five items that are essential pieces of Arthas' history, each one is a separate quest:
Alexandros' Soul Shard
Arthas' Training Sword
Badge of the Silver Hand
Blood of Sylvanas
Jaina's Locket
Highlord Alexandros Mograine
was a member of the Order of the Silver Hand during the Second War and was instrumental in the creation of
The Ashbringer
. Later he would be betrayed by his son, Renault, and the Order of the Silver Hand (then controlled by the demon Balnazzar by possessing its leader). Renault killed Alexandros with
The Ashbringer
, thus corrupting the blade. Renault, no longer able to handle the blade due to his shame, simply left the
Corrupted Ashbringer
with the corpse of his father.
Kel'thuzad
, the brainchild behind the whole occurance, raised Alexandros' corpse turning him into a Death Knight to serve the Scourge. Alexandros' reclaimed the now
Corrupted Ashbringer
and followed
Kel'thuzad
back to
Naxxramas
.
The Argent Dawn
, led by Alexandros' other son,
Darion
, who was haunted by nightmare's of his father's tortured soul, mounted a rescue mission in an attempt to free Alexandros. Darion was the only member of the assault to survive, escaping with the
Corrupted Ashbringer
, but forced to leave Alexandros' body behind.
Upon returning to the
Scarlet Monastery
, Alexandros' corrupted spirit manifested itself to Renault, accusing Renault of murder before mercilessly killing him. Later, during an assault by the scourge on Light's Hope Chapel, Darion plunged the
Corrupted Ashbringer
into his own chest sacrificing himself and destroying the oncoming Scourge. The act seemingly freed the soul of Alexandros, and was replaced by that of Darion himself, who was escorted from the battle by
Kel'thuzad
.
During the Battle for Light's Hope Chapel, the starting zone for
Death Knights
in Wrath of the Lich King, Darion, now a Death Knight in the service of
The Lich King
and wielding the
Corrupted Ashbringer
, led an attack against the Chapel, but is defeated by Lord Tirion Fordring. While Darion and Tirion converse, the spirit of Alexandros returns and Darion and his father talk, culminating in Darion experiencing a flashback. Their reunion is cut short by the arrival of
The Lich King
who uses Frostmourne to reclaim the soul of Alexandros.
Taking Alexandros' Soul Shard to its rightful owner,
Highlord Darion Mograine
, he says:
Impossible...
Father, is it you?!
You have done me a great service, hero. I offer you the reins of my faithful steed. Do with it as you please, but do not forget those that assisted you in this monumental feat.
The player obtains the Reins of the Crimson Deathcharger (Darion's own mount presumably) and a short RP begins.
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Father...
Highlord Alexandros Mograine says: Darion, my son.
Highlord Alexandros Mograine says: At last, I am able to lay my eyes upon you again.
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Father. I feared for your... your sanity.
Highlord Alexandros Mograine says: The Lich King tormented me without end, Darion.
Highlord Alexandros Mograine says: Endlessly, he sought to break my will, to force me to serve him, to bind me to his blade...
Highlord Alexandros Mograine says: Finally, when events demanded his full attention, he left me.
Highlord Alexandros Mograine says: The one memory, I clung to, Darion... The one thought that kept me from giving in...
Highlord Alexandros Mograine says: It was your sacrifice, my son, that again saved me from eternal peril.
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Father... For you, I would give my life a thousand times.
Muradin Bronzebeard
was the official liaison between Lordaeron and Khaz Modan. He accompanied the Alliance armies before the battles at Blackrock Spire and the Dark Portal, during which time he befriended the young Arthas Menethil. Muradin was a founding member of the Explorers' Guild and visited Northrend many times. Later Muradin and Arthas would meet, during the storyline of Warcraft 3, for the last time. Muradin had been seeking the runeblade Frostmourne, and Arthas was eager to claim the blade. Muradin led him to the sword, read the inscription and warned Arthas against using the blade, urging him to leave. Arthas disregarded Muradin's advice, shattering the ice imprisoning Frostmourne, a shard of which impaled Muradin. Leaving Muradin for dead Arthas returned to his army.
Muradin survived his wounds, however, and suffering from amnesia took on the name
Yorg Stormheart
and was appointed King of the Frostborn clan, where he remained until the events of Wrath of the Lich King. He then regains his memory and commands the gunship Skybreaker during the assault on
Icecrown Citadel
.
Bringing
Arthas' Training Sword
to Muradin results in the following RP script:
Muradin Bronzebeard says: Oh lad...
Muradin Bronzebeard says: How I missed those endless days in Lordaeron, sharpening your skill with this dull blade.
Muradin Bronzebeard says: Forging you into a weapon meant to withstand the demands of a great destiny.
Muradin Bronzebeard says: Heh... You sure put them skills to use, didn't you lad?
Muradin Bronzebeard says: If only I'd been able to stop you that day, how different things migha' been.
Muradin Bronzebeard says: If only I'da never discovered that accursed blade.
Muradin Bronzebeard says: Farewell, Arthas, my brother.
Muradin rewards the player with
Muradin's Favor
, an item that allows the player to take on the appearance of a Frost Dwarf for ten minutes.
The
Badge of the Silver Hand
was given to Arthas Menethil when he became a member and Knight of the Silver Hand. Uther appears inside the entrance to ICC near the other vendors and leaders when the player has the Badge in their inventory. Upon completing the quest Uther rewards the character with the
Tabard of the Lightbringer
, and an RP scripted event:
Uther the Lightbringer says: Arthas...
Uther the Lightbringer says: Alas, hero of Azeroth, you give me a greater gift than you know.
Uther the Lightbringer says: Long have I struggled to forgive the prince for his terrible transgressions.
Uther the Lightbringer says: My soul has been wracked with unbearable anxiety, dark thoughts... distancing me from the Light.
Uther the Lightbringer says: I recall clearly the gleam of pride in his eye as he stood before me, eager to defeat the enemies of the Light...
Uther the Lightbringer says: Eager to defend his people, no matter the cost.
Uther the Lightbringer says: It is this memory of Arthas that I choose to keep in my heart.
Uther the Lightbringer says: I shall always be in your debt, friend.
Uther the Lightbringer says: Thank you.
Lady Sylvanas Windrunner
, a high elf of Quel'Thalas, joined the elven rangers and later became their leader, Ranger-General of
Silvermoon
, and the military leader of all the High Elven forces. During the Second War she was instrumental in the defeat of the Orcish horde, and the destruction of the Dark Portal. When the High Elves withdrew from the Alliance (their agreement fulfilled) the Rangers returned to Quel'thalas and enjoyed several years of peace before Arthas, along with the scourge, descended en masse on Quel'thalas. Sylvanas and the Rangers fought back, but the never-ending numbers of Scourge continually forced them backward until they reached the Inner Elfgate. The two met in combat and Sylvanas was captured by Arthas. She pled for a clean death, but Arthas refused. She was tortured, mutilated, and ultimately killed. He then corrupted her body and soul and brought her back as the first High Elven banshee, separated from her body and forced to do
The Lich King's
bidding. She was instrumental in the capture of
Silvermoon
, the city she had defended with her life, and her body was sealed in an iron coffin.
As Arthas continued his campaign, the influence of Ner'zhul, who was still contained in
The Lich King's
armor and the Frozen Throne, and was influencing Arthas through his blade, began to weaken and several banshees, including Sylvanas, regained their independence from the Scourge. Sylvanas proceeded to aid the demons in Silvermoon with a plan to kill Arthas, but betrayed them, having her fellow banshees escort Arthas to her in the forest. Sylvanas recovered her body and met Arthas in the forest where she shot him with a paralyzing arrow. In an ironic twist of events Arthas demanded a quick death of Sylvanas, who refused. She was about to begin torturing Arthas when
Kel'thuzad
intervened, and she escaped. Unable to interact with the natural world any longer she turned her efforts towards necromancy and formed the Dark Rangers. She then later formed the Forsaken and assumed the position of Queen.
Upon presenting
The Dark Lady
with the
Blood of Sylvanas
the following RP scripted event begins:
Lady Sylvanas Windrunner says: So, it is done.
Lady Sylvanas Windrunner says: I had not dared to trust my senses - too many times has the Lich King made me to be a fool.
Lady Sylvanas Windrunner says: Finally, he has been made to pay for the atrocities he imposed upon my people.
Lady Sylvanas Windrunner says: May Azeroth never fail to remember the terrible price we paid for our weakness... for our pride.
Lady Sylvanas Windrunner says: But what now, hero? What of those freed from his grasp, but still shackled to their mortal coils?
Lady Sylvanas Windrunner says: Leave me.
Lady Sylvanas Windrunner says: I have much to ponder.
She rewards the player with
Sylvanas' Music Box
, which on use spawns several banshees who sing Lament of the Highborne.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore
was sent to
Dalaran
at a young age and was one of the few female wizards to be in direct service to Dalaran. Because of their royal heritage, Jaina and Arthas met and grew close. They later were engaged to be married, but Arthas broke off the engagement so they could focus on their respecitve studies. Jaina was hurt by the decision, but didn't fight with it. Years later she was sent by Antonidas, who had received a visit from the Prophet (Medivh) warning him to leave Dalaran and flee to Kalimdor, to Brill, in Northern Lodaeron. Arthas accompanied her on the journey. They encountered
Kel'thuzad
, who was killed by Arthas. On their return to
Lordaeron
they passed Hearthglen, a city whose people were turning into undead as a result of plagued grain from Andorhal. They eventually traveled to
Stratholme
, where they found that the city had eaten the plagued grain and would quickly turn into undead. Arthas was determined to kill the inhabitants before they could pose any threat, and Uther refused to kill innocent people. Arthas accused him of treason, and ordered Uther and his men to attack. Uther left and Jaina left with him, to Arthas' surprise. Shortly thereafter she received a visit from the Prophet who urged her to leave for Kalimdor. Jaina did so just as the scourge invasion of Lordaeron began, saving thousands of people from certain death. Once in Kalimdor she led her people, with the help of the Night Elves, Tauren, and Orcs, in defending the World Tree and defeating
Archimonde
. She then founded Theramore along the Eastern shores of Kalimdor.
When presented with
Jaina's Locket
a short RP scripted event begins:
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: What's this!
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: He... he kept it? All this time, he kept it!
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: I knew!
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: I sensed a part of him still alive! Trapped... struggling... Oh, Arthas!
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: Perhaps - perhaps he might someday remember what he once was.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: By the Light, may he at last find rest, free from the icy grip of that terrible blade.
Jaina returns the locket to the player.
Jaina's Locket
teleports the user to Dalaran.

"10-man, quester bitten first:
1->2->4->8"
"10-man, quester bitten second:
1->2->4->8->16 (impossible, wipe)"
"10-man, quester bitten second, first bite suicides:
1->1->2->4->8(difficult, but possible since there are 9 players in the raid)"
These are all incorrect since this quest (along with unholy and frost infusion) can only be completed on 25m difficulty. Otherwise a great guide.

How can ally complete the blood of sylvanas quest?
评论来自
Omsun
The blood infusion can be done with three people at level 90. You'll need a warlock and one person with a battle rez and the person on the quest.
(1) Warlock soulstones himself
(2) Quester and tank run in to get blood mirror debuff, then warlock stands next to tank and quester runs out. As the only person without the blood mirror debuff, the quester automatically gets bitten ("essence" debuff) first.
(3) DPS the boss until Quester turns into a vampire.
(4) Quester bites the warlock.
(5) Warlock kills himself (either in fire or use lifetap or some other means).
(6) Warlock uses soulstone and rezzes. DPS continues.
(7) Quester turns into a vampire for the second time and bites warlock for a second time. Warlock kills himself again.
(8) Person with battle rez revives the Warlock, dps continues.
(9) Quester bites either the warlock or the battle rez person again, making for a third bite.
(10) DPS Bloodqueen until she's dead. If your dps isn't strong enough, you'll all turn into vampires and have to try again. If she dies, you win and get to move onto the easy Sindragosa quest. Cheers!
Note: Once someone has been bitten by a vampire, they cannot be bitten again unless they die and are revived. That loophole is what makes this method work.

Ok I have one simple question, does it matter what order you do the steps for "The Sacred and the Corrupt"? I got the acidic bloods then decided to go after Light's Vengeance only to have the cutscene not trigger for me.

MAKE NOTE! On the Unholy Infusion portion, you HAVE to be alive at the end of the fight to get completion. I was 2-manning this with a Druid who managed to survive the fight, but I did not after infusing the blade. Since I was dead and the buff had been on me (even though I also saw some buff about this on Prof himself), I did not get credit. Guess I wait until next week.

Just tried to solo ICC to continue this quest, but bugs a-plenty with Professor Putricide. First I worked him down to 45% then drank from the table. Wasn't transformed for a full second when it came undone, tried to reapply itself, then came undone again. Professor reset. Tried transforming immidiately, but I didn't do enough DPS and got knocked out of abomination. Killed the slime adds, drank again, bugged out, reset.

Since 6.0.2 has messed up the brezzing of people in raids, the way to duo this as a DK is as follows:
DK pulls, gets vamp'd.
DK bites Shaman
Shaman dies
Shaman reincarnates right before next bite is due(Don't reinc too early and die from low hp)
DK bites Shaman again
Shaman dies again
DK brezzes Shaman
Shaman takes rez right before next bite is due(Don't accept too early and die from low hp)
DK bites Shaman again.
Kill boss.

As a quick note for anyone who is trying to solo unholy infusion, there's a few tips I can tell you to make it easier. Let the ooze pile up in a small area,
when he starts to cast unstable experiment go and start drinking the stuff and when drinking it, smash the 2 and 3 buttons while targeting Prof Putride.

There's a known issue with this event. It can sometimes bug out, and the zombies are just there, no Lich King, nothing. You have to send a ticket to GM, and they will mail you the quest item. Happened to me and 3 others waiting for something to happen just now. GM said they can't fix the event. So they just mail it to you instead.

Very helpful guide however, there is a link in the chain missing before Shadowmourne is created. Nothing too difficult, just wanted to post as a matter of convenience to save you a week. After creating the axe, Mograine wants you to kill 50 mobs inside ICC with it. No prob. HOWEVER, immediately following that, he'll want you to kill Professor Putricide with it on 25 man..also not too difficult. Just wanted to post this so you don't do what I did and kill him as one of your 50 souls, assuming it was 50 souls then LK. Happy hunting!

6 easy steps to completing the quest.
鲜血女王的精华
will be applied to the character standing the farthest away from the boss. So to save yourself the hassle of having to wipe the raid, take the
龟裂创伤
debuff by standing next to your designated tank then quickly run away, farther than the other raid members. The minimum number of people possible to complete this quest is 3 people, if one is a druid due to combat res (or a warlock with orb or a hunter with the Quilen pet).
1
- Do it in this order, take the
龟裂创伤
, run far away guaranteeing that you will get
鲜血女王的精华
2
- When it times out you will need to use Vampiric bite on the member who
doesn't
have a combat res (or the one that was soulstoned by the warlock) , as soon as that person is bitten by you they must kill themselves.
3
- Once dead they will ressurect without the
鲜血女王的精华
debuff making it possible to bite them again when the time comes.
4
- Once that person is bitten a second time by you they must kill themselves again or they will become charmed and lose control risking a wipe (with a good healer it's very easy to survive a charmed player)
5
-After another 60 seconds pass, you'll bite for the 3rd time but this time you will bite the last remaining player which will give you the last stack of
龟裂创伤
and the debuff will transform to
渴求消解
.
6
-
渴求消解
has 6 minute duration which is the time you need to kill the boss and complete the quest.

Worked on this today on my DK, patch 7.3. It's worth noting a couple of things that have changed with Legion, particularly in regards to the Blood Infusion.
First of all, the bites do garbage damage. I believe I bit my friend for ~4k. It's stupid low. Either bring along enough people that you don't need to worry about them not dying, or work around that. My workaround was to bring a friend with a warlock toon to life tap himself down to nil and then get bit, then get killed by the boss, then rez himself.
Second of all, either bring two people with you with at least one battle rez, or bring a lot of people. Battle rez is on a CD that translates to 90 minutes divided by the number of people in the raid. Therefore, with only two people, that will translate to a 45 minute CD on brez. It's ridiculous. I wound up just bringing along a third person to bite after my warlock friend.
What I wound up doing:
I stood next to the boss with my friends on the other side of the room so that I was the only one available to be bitten. When my debuff was about to turn, I had my warlock friend run up to me while life tapping himself down. I would bite him, and he'd wait for the boss to kill him. He would then rez himself and run back across the room and wait for my debuff to run down. He'd repeat what he had just done and wait to die. When the time for the third bite came around, I had my other friend just run up to me, I bit him, and then I killed the boss right away.
A little bit of coordination is necessary but it's still very doable.

It is possible to do every quest except
碎裂的王座
collection quest in
one lockout
. I attempted to do this quest chain with a boosted character, so I had to start everything from scratch.
Start with lots of room in your bags. You'll need to get naked a few times for these quests. Grab 25x
源生萨隆邪铁
from either the random dusty corner of your bank or buy from the auction house. You can also buy them from a vendor for 120g each in Dalaran or ICC if you're exalted with Sunreavers or the Silver Covenant, but the AH is usually cheaper.
Set your raid instance to
25-man Heroic
. First, you need to reach friendly with the Ashen Verdict. Clear trash up to Morrowgar, then run out and reset. Takes ~45 minutes to an hour in 7.3.2 with a human character. Reset the instance one more time.
Start the quest line:
神圣的和堕落的
When you get back from collecting
圣光的复仇
, start making your way through the instance
avoiding traps and as much trash as possible
. Save them for the next step! You can safely complete the following encounters on your way to getting
烂肠的酸性血液
and
腐面的酸性血液
:
玛洛加尔领主
亡语者女士
死亡使者萨鲁法尔
DO NOT KILL
普崔塞德教授
! You will need him later.
Now, you can make
影锋
because you already have 25x
源生萨隆邪铁
.
It's nekked time.
灵魂盛宴
Unequip everything except
影锋
and remove any talents that do passive damage. You cannot one shot the trash or you will not get credit. You may need resurrection sickness for this. Start at the beginning and
kill all the trash you skipped.
Good news, everyone! Time to kill the Professor!
For soloing
注入邪恶
I found Saeljfkklhen's comment the most helpful:
Link
. Worked like a charm, but the timing is tight so you may need to reset the encounter time or two.
The issue is that
the game treats you like a vehicle when you are transformed into something with abilities
, so the boss thinks no one is there and
treats it like a wipe and resets
. This was a problem for both
普崔塞德教授
and a time or two for
鲜血女王兰娜瑟尔
so you will have to be careful with timing.
Time for the pièce de résistance:
鲜血灌注
YOU MUST BRING 2-3 FRIENDS for this part! Best explanation was by zadck post-7.3:
Link
My experience:
Have your next victim be closest to you so they lose some health from
鲜血镜像
Some of them may need resurrection sickness, but I didn't find it necessary.
Be ready with self-heals and a taunt.
The encounter resets if everyone is dead and you turn.
The only way to tell you're done is after
龟裂创伤
disappears from your debuffs.
Now you can put clothes on again! Hooray!
冰霜灌注
is a cakewalk after what you've just been through. Head to the Frostwing Halls and do the
踏梦者瓦莉瑟瑞娅
encounter, then head toward
辛达苟萨
. Simply aggro her and get in her face for 4x
冰霜吐息
. If your friends are still around, keep spread apart to avoid a wipe if everyone ends up in an
寒冰坟墓
.
You will see
凝霜之剑
when it's time to take her down.
Turn in your quest and you're ready to kill the Lich King and start collecting
影霜碎片
.
You must run the raid in Heroic to get the best drop rate.
Good luck!

That feeling when you can finally close the "Blood Infusion" tab in your browser after seemingly forever.
Trouble we ran into:
- I ran with three of us: Myself (Pally), another Pally, and a Shaman
- The first time we tried the Shaman died, self-rezzed, I bit the Pally, and bit the Shaman again, and for some reason she said "How unfortunate" and the fight reset
- Shammy has a 45 minute cooldown on self-resurrection. Might be easier to bring a Warlock (when I helped someone else the fight reset the first time when the two helpers were dead at the same time, and I could pop a soulstone right away)
- Second time the Shaman didn't die after being bitten and we had to wait out my vampirism and reset the fight. As the tank, I forgot to stand close enough to the Shaman that they were almost dead by the time they were bitten
- Third time I stood next to the Shaman the whole time, bit everyone appropriately, and remembered to hit the boss whenever it seemed like I'd lost threat, and we managed to get it done.

Wow it feels good to be done with blood infusion. Getting three people short notice can be harder than you'd think. Pro tip: if you decide to bring any lower level with you to do blood infusion, make sure that you also have someone who can battle rez. I brought two 120's and an 80 (who I promised I'd finish through and let loot) and the 80 died before I could bite. Luckily one of the 120's was a DK and brought the 80 back for the final bite.

Blood infusion can be soloed with a single account using 2 high-level alts in addition to the character getting the infusion, as described in this video
https://youtu.be/EdqmtyuBykI?t=454
. The idea is to get all three characters in combat with Lana'thel so they don't disappear and you can bite the alts.
Set it up by inviting both alts using group finder:
Set difficulty to heroic and clear up to Lana'thel on the character getting the infusion and create a private group in group finder
Apply to the group on both alts, swap back to your main and invite, then swap
back
to each alt and accept.
Get both alts to Lana'thel's room
For the fight:
Pull Lana'thel on your main and immediately Alt+F4.
Log onto your first alt and immediately Alt+F4 again. This character is now in combat with Lana'thel so won't disappear from the instance
Log back onto your main. By the time you're back on this character you should have gotten
鲜血女王的精华
. Wait for the debuff to expire so you get the vampire action bar and bite the first alt. Immediately Alt+F4 again
Log onto the second alt and immediately Alt+F4
Log back onto your main, wait for the action bar, bite the second alt, and Alt+F4
Log back onto the first alt and Alt+F4
Log back onto your main and bite the first alt one last time.
龟裂创伤
should now disappear from your debuffs. Kill Lana'thel to complete the infusion.
In case you mess up, you may want to remove any Azerite or other items that give shields/regen to make dying easier.

Is it still possible to do this quest chain if your character is 120?
I started during legion and never did wotlk content due to using a level boost for my first character.
I just did a run with a friend for the first time and we one shot the bosses so fast.
Is it even possible to do the required mechanics for the infusions nowadays?

k a few notes:
1. dont wait till 50. icc is perfectly clearable at 43, however take cheap drums (the old ones, that work <50) for marrowgar - he wont spike you before bonestorm, but afterwards its free real estate. 5 min stun is a bit annoying ~
2. you actually don't need to farm rep to friendly, just clear the first 4 bosses (500 each):
pre-marrow's npc are ~700-900, half the elevator lady's mateys will make you friendly
don't bother looting, but you want dbw
死神的意志
in rdf hc
3. arthas' mace is chilling in dragonblight, quite close to lagaran actually - in the north-east part of the zone. fly, or hs and glide ;)
4. you have the porter to upper spire, and dont forget to get your BiS shirt which im lazy to link ofc k
小宝的丝带
, kill putricide's kids. congrats, hf in the maw. *forever.*
5. clear till sindy, adds are >50. usually. i mean, dont fail 1-shotting stuff too much. xd
6. this part is annoying: idea is to transform *while* he is running to the table! Or, something that engages combat while you transform, like a target dummy - the real problem is ~.5 sec before you become abomination, you will notice your name is blue
7. hearthstone and just pay a shammy 10-20k to help you. trust me, it sounds a lot but is much more worthy than staring at LFG for an hour. that is if you are dk or have bfa engineering
不稳定的时空转移器
,
else your second best option is to take a lock who ss-es himself
爆燃冲刺
or sp
and another random, so long as he can survive lana's dot - just for the third bite. Mind that the combat rez limit applies in icc! It is 1!
8. now sindy is the first time you will use Picture in Picture. won't be the last ;)
9. bandages scale, and yes it is 9, not 8! in case it isn't obvious! and who knew magni's essence would be of *any* use.. xd
10. LK: if you play on low graphics, move aside after he casts Shadow Trap or just use drums; during
冷酷严冬
use aoe against the orbs unless you want to explore the map.. erp nevermind
11. netflix/youtube,
香炸骨鱼
and speed pots,
瑞文戴尔之剑
Stratholme (not the main dungeon!) 4% etc; play a bit with the target frame/action bars displayed and their keybinds to not intrude with the vid. ie, show only the vertical one and bind it. don't be afraid to mess your ui a bit
12. you won't get invincible
---
have noticed lk doesn't always drop a shard, idk if it is because i skip valithria..
