Shadow Priests are slowly being driven to insanity due to their power derived from the void. Shadow priests thrive, embracing
and feeding off of the minds of their opponents to reach terrifying new limits. A bulk of a shadow priest's damage comes from it's dots. If you're looking for a class that specializes in dots, high mobility, and reliable self healing, this is the class for you.
Every race except for Orcs can play a priest.
Priests can use daggers, 1H maces, staves, and wands.
Iconic Shadow Priest abilities:

What makes Shadow Priests special
Shadow Priests are priests that use their ties to the void in order to cause pain and suffering to their enemies. Most of their spells are either related to hits directly into their foes minds, weakening them with every blow or tapping into the power of the void to strike their foes with ancient powers. Like other
specs, they have the option to heal their allies' wounds, but at a much more exepensive cost. Shadow Priests can also convert the pain of their enemies into salvation to their allies, using vampiric rituals in order to do so. The main thing that makes Shadow Priests truly special is
Shadow Priests use both Insanity and Mana as a resource. As a Shadow Priest, you will be casting abilities which generate Insanity, and when you reach 100 Insanity, you can activate

What defines Priests that select the shadow specialization is their signature ability

Another patch with minimal changes to shadow. More changes might come after the first week of ToS.
Gain Twist of Fate as a talent while wearing this legendary.
Void Eruption deals 300% increased damage and heals you for 40% of the damage done.
Summons a Mindbender to attack the target for 15 sec. Generates 4 8 insanity each time the Mindbender attacks.

Changes in Patch 7.2
While our toolkit is staying largely the same, 7.2 brings a revamp of our artifact through empowered artifacts and some of our legendaries received a change as well.
When an enemy is within 12 yards of you, you conceal yourself in shadows, reducing damage taken by 5% and increasing movement speed by 10-%. When no enemies are within 12 yards of you, Celumbra's starlight heals you for 1% of your maximum health every 1 sec.
Now also increases Voidform's Shadow damage dealt bonus by 3%

Critical Strike was added as a stat equal to the amount of Mastery on it.
Healing from Vampiric Touch when you are at maximum health will shield you for the same amount. Shield cannot exceed (Total heal * 0.08 0.04 damage absorbed.

Your abilities have a chance to trigger Concordance of the Legionfall, increasing your Primary stat by X for 10 second. (New paragon trait)

Vampiric Touch critical strikes have a 60% chance to create a Shadowy Apparition.

Increases the damage done by Mind Sear by 20%
Reduces the cooldown of Dispersion by 40 sec.

Changes in Patch 7.1.5
Lots of changes were made to shadow during this patch.

When you cast Shadow Mend on yourself, its damage over time effect heals you instead, and reduces all damage you take by 10%.
Voidform may be activated Void Eruption may be cast anytime your Insanity level is 70 or higher 65 or higher.
Your Shadowy Apparitions now deal 100% increased damage and generate 4 3 Insanity.
You move 1% faster for every 5 3 Insanity you have.
Inflicts the target with a Mind Bomb. After 2 sec, or if the target dies, it unleashes a psychic explosion, stunning all enemies within 8 yds of the target for 2 sec 4 sec. (Tooltop Fix
Assail the target with shadowy spikes, dealing (45% of Spell power) Shadowfrost damage and leaving a spike embedded in their mind. Mind Blast will detonate these spikes, each dealing 200% of their original damage to the main target, and 100% to all nearby targets. - Removed, replaced with

Blasts the target's mind for (220% of Spell power) Shadow damage. Generates 25 Insanity. 30 second cooldown 20 second cooldown
All your Insanity-generating abilities generate 150% 100% more Insanity, and you can cast while moving, until you exit Voidform. Then you die. Horribly.
Lingering Insanity persists for 8 seconds after you next enter Void Form.When Voidform ends, its haste bonus fades by 2% every second, instead of ending immediately. Name changed from Void Lord to Lingering Insanity. Lingering Insanity passive removed
Blasts the target's mind for (275% of Spell power) Shadow damage. Generates 12 Insanity 15 Insanity.
Assaults the target's mind with Shadow energy, causing (220% of Spell power) Shadow damage over 3 sec and slowing their movement speed by 50%. Generates 8 12 Insanity over the duration.
Corrosive shadow energy radiates from the target, dealing Shadow damage over 5 sec to all enemies within 10 yards of the target. Generates 9 Insanity over the duration per target hit. When Mind Flay deals damage, if the target is afflicted by your Shadow Word: Pain, it deals (40% of Spell power) damage to all nearby targets. Generates 1 Insanity per target hit.
A word of dark binding that inflicts (325% of Spell power) Shadow damage to the target. Only usable on enemies that have less than 20% health. Generates 10 15 Insanity, or 30 Insanity if the target dies.
Releases an explosive blast of pure void energy, activating Voidform and causing (150% of Spell power) Shadow damage to all enemies afflicted by your Shadow Word: Pain or Vampiric Touch.
During Voidform, this ability is replaced by Void Bolt. Requires 100 Insanity to activate. Cooldown changed from 3 sec cooldown to 1.5 sec cooldown
A word of darkness that causes (41% of Spell power) Shadow damage instantly, and an additional (287%369% of Spell power) Shadow damage over 14 sec 18 sec.Generates 3Insanity 4 Insanity.
A touch of darkness that causes 68 Shadow damage over 18 24 sec, and heals the Priest for 50% of damage dealt. If Vampiric Touch is dispelled, the dispeller flees in Horror for 3 sec. Generates 4 6 Insanity.
For the duration of Voidform, your Void Eruption ability is replaced by Voidbolt: Sends a bolt of pure void energy at the enemy, causing (200% of Spell power) Shadow damage and extending the duration of Shadow Word: Pain and Vampiric Touch to their original duration on all nearby targets by 3.0 sec Requires Voidform. Generates 16 Insanity.
Activated by casting Void Eruption. Twists your Shadowform with the powers of the Void, increasing allshadow damage you deal by 30%
When Voidform ends, you return to normal Shadowform, and you gain Lingering Insanity, allowing the Haste bonus to persist for 1 min or until you next enter Voidform.
