All you have to do is get to 350 alchemy, then buy the recipe off one of the vendors in Shatrath for 8g (Primal essence to Primal Might) and just transmute them yourself.

It should be noted, that you do indeed have to be level 68 before obtaining any of the Alchemy Specializations.

It seems that it is different between primal mights and the diamonds. I have done at least 10 transmutes of primal mights and have gotten 2 out of the 10 times to give 2 primal mights the rest were one. I have done 3 diamond transmutes and have gotten 2 diamonds on 2 of them..

My very first transmutation after becoming Master gave me a 2x result. I got 2 Skyfire Diamonds. I gave one to a guily and sold the other.

Still waiting for the cooldown to do a second one, and maybe I'm just lucky... but I think Master of Transmutation was a good pick.

It was said that you need 350 alchemy to be able to get this quest. However, I got this quest when I was lvl70 with only 326 alchemy. My guess is that the required level of alchemy is 325. I got the quest from the alchemy trainer in Thrallmar ( http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=16588#00z )

I would not reccomend this to anyone except the extremely rich or the extremely desperate. I have crafted 19 primal mights, 3 skyfire diamonds, and 1 earthstorm diamond after having achieved this specialization and I have had no procs and no discoveries. I have met one person from my server who bought his epic flying mount off of money made with this transmutation, claiming he almost always procced at least one additional primal/diamond; it seems to be very random. unless you are blessed with riddiculously good luck, go for potions or elixir spec. Elixir specs on my server make huge bank selling excess flasks and elixirs to raiding guilds

I'm beginning to regret speccing into this. On my server, selling all 5 primal elements will net you around 135g (~27g per primal element).. Primal Might sells for about 109g.

Unless I'm proccing with a yield greater than 123,85%, this spec isn't worth it to me. Sadly, so far after 16 transmutes, it hasn't procced even ONCE. :(

Don't do this quest!

If you're really desperate to become a transmute master, do either elixir master or Potion master and then spend 150 gold to respec. You'll have to do a dungeon but you'll probably be doing them anyway for rep and loot, and in the end you'll save gold because 4x primal might is a rip.

before 2.1 i bought primal earth in cheep in bulk (3g each) and using transmute earth>water>air>fire i made all my own mats for might (except mana but thats easy to farm). the payout is very good for the time spent on it. but since 2.1 MOT has not procced once and i have done it every day since the patch. Either its not working or the procc rate is now so low its not worth having anymore

I wouldn't recommend this for anyone who doesn't have a solid grasp on statistical theory, or patience. The lack of either will apparently cause you to begin complaining after a statistically insignificant sample of transmutes.

This spec is the gambler's spec. Sometimes, you'll win really, really hard. Most of the time, you won't. Know what you're getting into, and understand that doing 5 transmutes in a row without a proc does NOT mean that the rate is less than 20% overall.

Simply don't waste 4 primal mights to spec as master transmutation...
Since 2.1 it is now possible to unlearn a spec by simply talking to the quest giver and then respeccing by simply talking to the other quest giver for a total of 150g
So do as i have, spec in potions (the quest is really easy, craft 15 potions and kill the second boss in Botanica) and respec... you'll probably save about 200g worth of primals...

I have Master of transmutation from maybe 2 months now but only 1 proc x1. I transmute everyday but nothing. So what.???...I spent my account time farming for the quest and what??? NO procs .. what are they thinking in Blizz ...maybe I should require a free spec change to pot or elixir master :PPP IMPOSSIBLE
1 proc a week is fair enough but 1 proc in 2 months is a robbery. I understand that it wont be fair to other specs if we proc everyday like x5 but a few for a week is normal. Maybe its not a 20% chance but 20 day cd of proc :P
And a 100g for unlearn ????? WE must consider when choosing.....how?? How can I know ?

i just picked up alchemy a few days ago and at 325 i got the quest for Mastery at Thrallmar. i chose Transmutation because like others have said, this profession and mastery requires some patience and knowledge of statistical theory. from reading above posts, look at the yield percentage for various people, they are roughly the same even though there's only a handful of people taking statistics of their transmute yields.
have some patience, and trust me, your guildies will thank you for being master of transmutation. you will offer a service to others that will be greatly appreciated. patience is a virtue and good things come to those who wait. lol

im doing like this! i do free transmute for ppl, but when it proceed i keep xtra1 and ofc sell it! some ppl expect to get that xtra1 when they bring mats, so i just wonder does other masters do that??!! why do they think it proceeded just because they bring mats and have rights to get more that 1?
i need to explain ppl over and over again that masters spend like 400+g to became masters and they want to make profit and not just make ppl happy by giveing it away!!??

What's the proper etiquette for a Transmutation master?
If I make a Might transmute for someone and get 5 Mights, I'd keep 4 and give 1 back, since that's what the person was looking for.
If someone asked me if I was a Transmutation Master, and offered a certain amount as an "ante" in case I happen to get any bonuses, then I would probably negotiate the ante and give the guy his bonuses if I got any.

For example, I think it would be interesting when selling a Might transmute to say something like "I'm a Transmutation Master, would you like to pay 40g to get any bonuses?". However, this would probably leave it open to abuse from people saying they're Transmutation Masters without actually being it and just claiming that they lost.

I suggest taking up Potion Mastery, then drop it for this one. It is the most cost efficient way to become a Transmute master. Super Healing and Mana Potions drop off nearly everyone mob out there in outland, so saving 5 of each should be no big deal. If you don't want to wait for them to drop, Dealer Sadaqat sells a limited supply of the two potions. The Ring of Blood questline yields 10 of each. So all you need to do is run Bot and pick up 5 Major Dreamless Potions (which go for at most 10g a stack on my server.). Total cost: 160g with respec.

I've done 20-25 transmutes after I became a Master Transmuter, and so far I've had ONE 2x proc and that's it. It's a little frustrating, seing as you really have to be a AH whore to find the cheap materials and best times to sell. I've managed to sell most my mights for 30-40g over the normal AH prices by simply keeping them in my bank until there's a shortage of them up on AH, and then put them up for overprices. Was kinda hoping being a transmutation master would help earn me some money, but so far I'm down 3 primal mights and a lot of time.

After lending 2 mights to get Mastery, my first Primal might proc gave me x5.
I'm not one to boast but thats class :P. I know I'll hardly get a proc, but gaining mastery for technicaly nothing is fantastic. Good luck people!

I think that transmutation mastery would be more appealing if Blizzard gave some more perks besides a pretty slim chance of a multiple transmute. Some ideas:

1. Reduce the cooldown to, say, 12 hours for transmutation masters, while keeping it at 23-24 hours for alchemists with no mastery or a different mastery,

2. Increase the proc rate,

3. Keep the cooldown as is, but with transmutation mastery put the different transmutes on separate cooldowns. For example, with transmutation mastery I could transmute a primal might, earthstorm diamond and an arcanite bar all in one day,

4. Etc., <insert other transmutation mastery idea here> or

5. Some combination of these.

It seems to me that the real issue here is not so much the proc rate as is the fact that doing a single transmute leaves you unable to do ANY transmutes for pretty much a whole day. On the other hand, potion/elixir masters can make as many potions, elixirs or flasks as they want, whenever they want so long as they have the mats, which makes their procs seem to abound by comparison.

Personally, I think idea 1 and/or 3 would be the best solution(s) to make transmutation mastery more worthwhile.

Okay, I began counting how much proccs I'd get under 2-3 months, but I really did not do them every single day, since it takes time, so I ended up wasting the CD with others' mats instead.

I made, I think, over 30 Transmutes. What did I get?
0 Proccs.

You can easily earn your money back as a Master XMuter:

Depending on your server, some primals will be dirt cheap compared to others - usually the cheapest is primal earth - you will want to get the recipe from Sporeggar (Revered rep) xmute earth to water. On Mug'Thol - Earth primals sell for 4g - while Water Primals sell for 20g. So, you can easily make 16g a day. And if you get a proc - then you get 20g bonus.

I have found that making potions is not a way to riches, people dont seem to realize that you can often sell the mats for more than what you will make by selling the potions. Do the math sometime - you will be surprised to see people out there unloading potions for far less than what it costs to make (vial cost, materials cost, auction cost, time spent herbing).

After patch 2.3 the Transmutation proc was bugged, making only the Primal Might proc as it's supposed to.

According to wow wiki, this was fixed in 2.3.2 so now they should have "normal" proc rate.

If you do choose to do this quest by farming the primals here are so good places to farm the motes:

Primal Mana -
The Phase Worms in Blade's Edge Mountains have a great drop rate for Mote of Mana. To see them you will need to pick up the quest "Maintaining the Sunwell Portal" and get the "Bash'ir Phasing Device" in order to see the phase worms.

Primal Fire -
There are two good spots to farm these. One is killing the "Incandescent Fel Spark's" at the "Throne of Kil'Jaeden" in Hellfire Peninsula and another is just east of the "Throne of the Elements" in Nagrand by killing "Raging Fire-Soul" (this spot will require a flying mount to reach).

Primal Air -
Same as for fire, just go east of "Throne of the Elements" but instead kill "Storming Wind-Ripper"

Primal Water -
There is an excellent spot north east outside of Shattrath called "Silmyr Lake". If you can bring a underwater breathing potion with you to speed things up. It nice because the Shimmerscale Eel's are only level 62-63 and only have about 3,200 HP.

Primal Earth -
If you are a miner getting Motes of Earth should be no problem as they drop fairly frequently off of high level veins. If you don't have the luxury of being a miner then they drop from Sundered Thunderer in Netherstorm.

Right I've just hit the level where I can choose a Mastery. I want to be an Elixir Master to help provide me with Flasks and Elixirs more easily. However, I'm not in the damn mood to do the Black Morass at this time. So I started to look around for a solution to my problem (which is I'm a lazy @#$%).

And there is a way to avoid this a little bit. To start from the beginning, to choose a Mastery you need to do a quest. Normally you get the pre-quest from the trainer in the tower in Honour Hold, Hellfire Peninsula; it sends you to three difference characters (not sure exactly where on everyone, though I believe it is in Telredor, Zangarmarsh, Shattrath, Lower City and Stormspire in Netherstorm. It seems, however, that you do not have to get the quest from Honour Hold first; it's enough you go to the Mastery-NPC:s directly.

Anyway, most people are likely to do the right quest for the right mastery (people wanting Potion Mastery do the Potion Mastery quest, and so on); however, there's another way! With a patch (can't remember which), Blizzard implemented a way to change your mastery, which means that you can do ANY of the quests, then unlearn your mastery and learn the mastery you really wanted! Basically go to the Mastery-trainer whose quest you think is easiest (I think it's Transmutation Mastery, it requires four Primal Mights, which is very cheap if you do them yourself, which is easy since they removed the cooldown). Anyway, go to Stormspire if you choose to do this quest (you can of course do any of them, but the whole point with this is to take the easiest one which requires least effort), talk to Zarevhi in Stormspire (or talk to the Gnome in Honour Hold first, who will give you a follow up. However, if he doesn't, do not worry, you don't have to take his quest first as it seems you can just talk to the Alchemy Master directly, I did).

Anyway, take the quest and turn in the four Primal Mights. He'll give you Transmutation Mastery. Talk to him again and you'll have the option to un-learn your current mastery. Proceed with this and you'll have your Mastery dropped (your Alchemy-profession is not affected by this). Then simply go to the NPC who trains the Mastery you wish to have, and talk to them, and they will give you the Mastery you wanted without forcing you to do their quest as well!

You need, if you choose the Transmutation Mastery, four Primal Might (50g on the AH, but a lot cheaper if you buy all the mats, probably 50g-80g altogether) and a 150g for the fee of un-learning your Mastery.

If you are specialized, you DON'T need to bring mats to new specialization. Just drop actual one then train the another. The specialization quest is done ONE time only (for any of the specializations). After this, just pay the fee and respec.

Im disappointed with transmutation i havent got single proc in 3 weeks, but i like alchemy and have 3 so i dont realy need another elixier master. Maybe i will get lucky with my proc in next 3 weeks but first 3 was disappointing.

Once you complete a alchemist mastery quest; you can unlearn it and

It must also be noted that if you have a mastery quest from one questgiver but chose to go to a different questgiver, you must drop the previous quest first in order for the new chosen questgiver to have any available quests.

What I did was got the elixir quest from the dude in Shattrath and later found out you could learn one specialization, drop it and learn the other without having to re-do a quest. Turns out the Primal Mights were pretty cheap on my server so I bought those and tried going to Apothecary Antonivich but he didnt have any available quests until I dropped the quest from the dude in Shattrath.

May be common sense but if you're kinda not all there upstairs like I am and you did the same, drop the old quest first. :P

I'd just like to mention something that happened to me.

I recently made my druid an alchemist, leveled to 450, then decided i wanted transmute spec. So I then grinded for the primals, made the mights, traveled up to netherstorm and spoke to the guy. I get there and no quest is available. I simply speak to the guy and I receive transmute mastery, check my bags and 4 primal mights are still in my bags.

The only possible explanation that makes sense is the fact I was an alchemist on my druid back in burning crusade and had transmute mastery then too, for which I did the quest

Basically, If you ever raise alchemy a second time, it must put you to the point where you've just unlearned your spec. When you reach the appropriate level, simply speak to the master of the spec you want and no quest required.

i dont know if it worth considering but going out with 4 x Emeral Bags you may respec to elixir master once a week or so just untill you are done with collected goods and then respec back to trans. i'll try and see if it worths 300g

If you want to change from one mastery to another see below

If you are wanting to learn Transmute you will need to visit where you learnt your previous mastery (pots / elixir) and pay $150g to unlearn it , If you havent currently learnt a mastery , visit Zarevhi at the Stormspire in Netherstorm if you want to get Transmuting

If your currently a Potion Master you will need to visit Lauranna Thar'well at Cenarion Refuge in Zangarmarsh.

If your currently a Elixir Master , you will need to visit Lorokeem in Shattrath's Lower City.

Once you've unlearnt your mastery head to visit Zarevhi at the Stormspire in Netherstorm for Transmuting.

Does anyone else have the problem of not being able to get this mastery after unlearning another. I got potion mastery because it was cheaper to get than transmute then I unlearned it to learn transmute. The npc who teaches this transmute doesn't give me the option to learn it tho.... and blizz hasn't answered my ticket in two plus days so they aren't any help.

Some humor for everyone:

I decided to use the learn this and drop technique and pay the 150g. Well, I guess I'm the only person who could mess this up as bad as me. First of all, when you decide to talk to the questgiver to "unlearn" transmute master.... you pay 150g

Now, if you acidently talk to him again.... and relearn transmute master... you will pay another 150g to unlearn.... (300g now in total cost)

Now if for some reason while flying to the Elixir Master... you accidently stop at the potion master and learn it instead... that's 150g to unlearn (450g now in total cost)

At this point it would probably be prudent to make sure you actually go to the intended Elixir master in Shat to Learn the correct "mastery" of alchemy.

Fortunately I did have 4 primal mights already lying around.... but if i didn't.... it would be really embarasing if i paid the 300g each for them on the AH for 1200g.... that would make my lazyness almost cost me 1650g..... Wow... so happy I just had those mats just taking up space in my bank.

On a good note: No cool down on Transmute: Primal Might

Potion Mastery is definitely the best possible way to go no matter which Alchemic Mastery you decide upon. The mats for the potions are easily gathered and are the cheapest/fastest to acquire compared to the 4 Primal Mights the transmute mastery quest requires. The item which can be found from High Botanist Freywinn in heroic and non-heroic Botanica, is also faster and easier to acquire than the 10 Essence's of Infinity that are needed from Black Morass. While the item for Potion mastery only require one partial dungeon run, the essence's need for elixir mastery may take multiple runs. Th boss the item for potion master drops from is the second boss within the dungeon, and is quick and easy to get to with a random group or solo at level 80+. After turning in the quest it is your choice of what path you actually choose to follow, just speak with the quest giver once more and choose to forget your mastery. It costs 150g, but in comparison to the time/money for Primal Mights for the multiple runs into Black Morass, the 150g is most definitely worth it.

If you want to change your mastery, you'll need to go to your perspective mastery trainer and unlearn it first. Once you've unlearned it, you need to go to the mastery trainer you want and learn the new one. Cost is 150g to unlearn.

You do NOT need to do the mastery quest once you have done one for a different mastery.

Potion Mastery: Lorokeem @ Cenarian Refuge in Zangarmarsh
Elixir Mastery: Lorokeem @ Lower City in Shattrath
Transmutation Mastery: Zarevhi @ Stormspire in Netherstorm

OK so I started as Elixer Master so I could make stuff for my mains - discovered that it hardly NEVER proc'd - so I wanted to switch to transmute mastery because the truegold CD was going for a lot. So I looked up how to unlearn (had to go back to orgional trainer for that skill) then read that I needed 4 Primal Mights to complete the quest to become Transmute Master. I bought 4 out of the AH cause I didnt have the mats, and didnt feel like getting the mats to make them. SO I get there and expect to have him want the 4 that I bought (@300 a piece) So I talk to Zarevhi and just POOF Im a transmute master and I still have my 4 primals.

Little unclear on how to change from elixir to transmutations.
1. Goto shat alchemist trainer, unlearn elixir mastery. (click once, or you'll relearn elixir mastery and have to spend another 150g to unlearn).
2. Goto Netherstorm, then stormspire. Talk to Zaverhi, he will give you the option to learn Transmutation Mastery.

Nothing less, nothing more.

On the ptr it looks like as of patch 4.3 you will no longer need to collect 4 Primal Mights to get your Transmute spec, instead it has been updated to:

Transmutation Master:

Truegold x 4
Total AH Materials Cost: 2200

dont know why the current trend for acquisition of materials is laziness, it really dosnt take that long to farm the mats for making primal might , I had the mats in less than an hour on 1 of my lvl 70 alts and had a friend transmute the primal might,,, I set some aside for other alts or for friends.

Since 4.3, if you want to switch masterys: open your spellbook, click on the circle with a x in it to unlearn the current alchemy mastery, then go to the alchemy trainer in your major city to do a quest to learn the new mastery of your choice. Unlearning a mastery is free, learning a new mastery requires completing a quest.

This quest has been removed from the game. It has been replaced with Transmutation Master, which requires 475 Alchemy and 4 Truegold.

For those looking to change from a spec to transmutation master now, be advised:

It takes four Living Steel to switch out from whatever you are, though unlearning your current specialty is still as easy as clicking on the X button beside it in your professions tab.

You can not learn it from the trainer in Dalaran, or in Stormspire in Netherstorm - You must learn it from a trainer in Stormwind (or other respective home cities) or possibly at any Pandaran trainer.
