Ok one question, if i take this profesion i can make few more pots like is flask (flask of titans etc.) or only potions (major mana pots etc.) ? If i cant make flask then best option is to take master of elixir.. :D

If you drop Alchemy to change masters you will not have to do the quest again. All you have to do is go to the person who gives the quest:
Lauranna Thar'well - Cenerarion Refuge in Zangarmarsh(Potions Master)
Zarevhi - Stormspire in Netherstorm (Transmutes Master)
Lorokeem - Shattrath Lower City in Terrokar (Elixers Master)
Just speak to the approprate person after you get your alchemy high enough and you will learn it. (THIS IS ONLY IF YOU REGRIND ALCHEMY FOR THE SAKE OF SWITCHING)

To drop your Spec, go to your respective trainer. Stormspire for Xmute, Cenarion Refuge for Potion, and Shattrah for Elixir. It cost me 150g to unlearn Xmute spec so I'm assuming it is the same for the other 2 specs. When you go to learn your new Spec you do not have to do the associated quest with it and learn it immediately.

Level 70 Resto Shaman (Futurepunch)

I bought the stack at the AH because it was going for 4g.
I suggest looking into the AH for deals in order to use your efficiently.

Three wipes later, I managed to learn it in Cenarion Refuge, Zangarmarsh.
I immediately made 2x but I received 4x instead
along with the recipe for .

Holy nerfed shammy on a stick!

Talking to the NPC again yielded an option to unlearn it, but I feel that money is going to be rolling in with this specialization.

its 150g, might have changed but i checked yesterday. also note that transmutation matery is the only one you can actually complete at 68, unless that is, you found a way to convince people to let you run through BM with them. and botanica requires a flying mount to get to. so if you were like me and sitting at 360 alchemy at 58, and come 68 have 4 primal mights lying around, then it might not be all that worthless.

that and i have yet to actually sell a primal might. i just keep one in the bank for people lookin for the xmute (guildies usually.)

The quest can be picked up as soon as 325 Alchemy is reached.

The book drops off the second boss in Botanica http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=17975
In order to reach Botanica you must either be a druid or a level 70 with a flying mount.

Major Dreamless Sleep Potions are available from a recipe at 350 Alchemy http://www.wowhead.com/?item=22911

You get your mastery quest at level 68, but to do the potions mastery quest you must run the Botanica to get the drop for the quest. But, to get into a Tempest Keep instance you need a flying mount (or be a druid with FF). So, anyone other than a druid (who gets FF at level 68) needs to be 70 to get into a Tempest Keep instance. Correct? Or is there a way around it? Or should I do a different mastery quest then pay to unlearn it if I'm anxious to get my mastery taken care of? I'm leveling alchemy on my alt and I didn't start wondering about the quest for mastery until recently since now I'm close to level for my mastery.

At level 69 and 367 Alchemy, I cannot get this quest. Has it been removed? Patch notes don't mention it. :(

They didn't remove it, the advantages? uhmm, you can proc "only when you make potions" to get an extra 1,2,3 or even 4 for a total of possible 5, masteries are exactly like the tailoring ones, if you make 20 there is a chance to proc atleast 5

Are these Instance items going to be remove at anytime ? It seems quite .. Stupid .. If you will, that a lvl 80 has to run a lvl 70 instance to get spec'ed either Elixir /or/ Potion. It really just cuts out time from doing something productive. Even if you had to run a lvl 80 instance it would be better, in my opinion.

Okay, I am way confused. I was clearing out old quests today and Lauranna had this quest for me. I'm at 414 alchemy but apparently never specced at all. I have transmute, potions, and elixers out my wazoo. Do I need to specialize in one, or is it best just to leave myself unspecced?

Right I've just hit the level where I can choose a Mastery. I want to be an Elixir Master to help provide me with Flasks and Elixirs more easily. However, I'm not in the damn mood to do the Black Morass at this time. So I started to look around for a solution to my problem (which is I'm a lazy #$%^).

And there is a way to avoid this a little bit. To start from the beginning, to choose a Mastery you need to do a quest. Normally you get the pre-quest from the trainer in the tower in Honour Hold, Hellfire Peninsula; it sends you to three difference characters (not sure exactly where on everyone, though I believe it is in Telredor, Zangarmarsh, Shattrath, Lower City and Stormspire in Netherstorm. It seems, however, that you do not have to get the quest from Honour Hold first; it's enough you go to the Mastery-NPC:s directly.

Anyway, most people are likely to do the right quest for the right mastery (people wanting Potion Mastery do the Potion Mastery quest, and so on); however, there's another way! With a patch (can't remember which), Blizzard implemented a way to change your mastery, which means that you can do ANY of the quests, then unlearn your mastery and learn the mastery you really wanted! Basically go to the Mastery-trainer whose quest you think is easiest (I think it's Transmutation Mastery, it requires four Primal Mights, which is very cheap if you do them yourself, which is easy since they removed the cooldown). Anyway, go to Stormspire if you choose to do this quest (you can of course do any of them, but the whole point with this is to take the easiest one which requires least effort), talk to Zarevhi in Stormspire (or talk to the Gnome in Honour Hold first, who will give you a follow up. However, if he doesn't, do not worry, you don't have to take his quest first as it seems you can just talk to the Alchemy Master directly, I did).

Anyway, take the quest and turn in the four Primal Mights. He'll give you Transmutation Mastery. Talk to him again and you'll have the option to un-learn your current mastery. Proceed with this and you'll have your Mastery dropped (your Alchemy-profession is not affected by this). Then simply go to the NPC who trains the Mastery you wish to have, and talk to them, and they will give you the Mastery you wanted without forcing you to do their quest as well!

You need, if you choose the Transmutation Mastery, four Primal Might (50g on the AH, but a lot cheaper if you buy all the mats, probably 50g-80g altogether) and a 150g for the fee of un-learning your Mastery.

I just want to make sure you don't lose your recipes when you drop your master. I recently got my potions mastery, but want to drop it for Elixir's. I'm talking to the NPC in Zangermarsh, but she won't let me drop it. she gives me the "are you sure? it's gonna cost you 150gold." I accept and nothing happens.

So, first: will i lose my recipes and have to start over? I've seen some posts (either here or on Elixir thread) that say you can relearn a mastery once you regrind your alchemy.

second: why won't she let me "unlearn" I'm thinking i need to open a help ticket...

Advise?

Apparently to be able to "unlearn" the mastery and relearn it with another trainer is "broken" on my server, Blood Furnace. Bliz is aware of it. At this time, I'm stuck with my mastery until Blizzard decides to fix it.

Soloed the quest (going into botanica for the field guide) as a level 80 warlock. I spec'd affliction and went in with my voidwalker to fight High Botanist Freywinn (the 2nd boss in botanica, in regular/non-heroic mode). Wearing mostly pvp gear (23k hits & 910 resilience, VW had 24k hits with the VW glyph) I barely managed to beat them with a health stone, healing pot, and bandaging around the corner. It was harder than I though it'd be, and it took me a couple of tries and remembering you have to duck around the corner when the boss starts doing the tranquility thing. Others could presumably do it with more ease ;)

Very easy to solo as a 77 Feral druid. I stealthed all the way to the boss and just cleared the trash at the end of the bridge. Just fight in bear form, pull the adds around the corner when he casts tranquility (and goes into tree form), and heal yourself after the adds die and the boss is on his way back to you. Your mana regens completely during the boss melee. Repeat many times, and he eventually goes down.

Or you can just go learn Transmute instead in Netherstorm then unlearn and go to your trainer of choice and get it right away...

The quest for the book is easily soloable in botanica on an 80 dk with mostly heroic gear. 4900 gs = took 10 mins from entering the instance.

I predict that this will be the easiest and cheapest way of acquiring your alchemy mastery while levelling, the reason being that The Botanica is now included in the random dungeon list at level 68 (along with the other high-end BC dungeons). Previously at 68 players would lose the "Random Burning Crusade" dungeon options and instead be sent to Utgarde Keep.

I picked Botanica and got a group within 30mins (as DPS).

Potion Mastery is definitely the best possible way to go no matter which Alchemic Mastery you decide upon. The mats for the potions are easily gathered and are the cheapest/fastest to acquire compared to the 4 Primal Mights the transmute mastery quest requires. The item which can be found from High Botanist Freywinn in heroic and non-heroic Botanica, is also faster and easier to acquire than the 10 Essence's of Infinity that are needed from Black Morass. While the item for Potion mastery only require one partial dungeon run, the essence's need for elixir mastery may take multiple runs. Th boss the item for potion master drops from is the second boss within the dungeon, and is quick and easy to get to with a random group or solo at level 80+. After turning in the quest it is your choice of what path you actually choose to follow, just speak with the quest giver once more and choose to forget your mastery. It costs 150g, but in comparison to the time/money for Primal Mights for the multiple runs into Black Morass, the 150g is most definitely worth it.

If you want to change your mastery, you'll need to go to your perspective mastery trainer and unlearn it first. Once you've unlearned it, you need to go to the mastery trainer you want and learn the new one. Cost is 150g to unlearn.

You do NOT need to do the mastery quest once you have done one for a different mastery.

Potion Mastery: Lorokeem @ Cenarian Refuge in Zangarmarsh
Elixir Mastery: Lorokeem @ Lower City in Shattrath
Transmutation Mastery: Zarevhi @ Stormspire in Netherstorm

Rumor is that this quest is being removed with patch 4.3 and being replaced with a buffed up version that requires Cataclysm potions.

Your best bet is to get this done ASAP! In my opinion, it's the easiest of the three to complete.

In 4.3 I couldn't pick this quest up in Zangermarsh. The quests to get either Potion Master, Elixer Master or Transmute Master are given by the alchemy trainer in your factions capital city. E.g Yelmak in Orgrimmar.

For potion master he wants 6 Mythical Mana potions, 6 Mythical Healing potions and 2 Potions of Treasure finding.

Be aware, as of 4.3 you cannot obtain any specialization until you are level 475 in skill.

This quest is no longer handed out by Lauranna Thar'well.

To train for any alchemy specialization, you need to be 475 in Alchemy before all three specialization quests will become available to you at any Alchemy trainer (e.g. Yelmak in Orgrimmar ).
